Modern Salon Interior Design Ideas
If you are looking for something more modern and contemporary, there are plenty of options available as well. For example, you can opt for sleek furniture pieces with clean lines and minimalistic designs that will give your salon a modern feel. You can also incorporate bold colors into the design such as bright reds or blues that will make your salon stand out from the rest. Additionally, you can use modern lighting fixtures such as LED lights or spotlights to create an inviting atmosphere in your salon.
Functional Salon Interior Design Ideas
When it comes to creating a functional space for your salon, there are several things that you should consider. First of all, make sure that all of your equipment is easily accessible so that customers don’t have to search around for what they need. Additionally, make sure that all surfaces are easy to clean so that they stay looking their best at all times. Finally, make sure that there is enough storage space so that all products and tools can be kept organized and out of sight when not in use.
Tips For Creating The Perfect Salon Interior Design In India
Creating the perfect salon interior design in India requires careful planning and consideration of both style and function. Whether you’re looking for a traditional Indian motif or something more modern and contemporary, here are some tips on how you can create an inviting atmosphere in your salon:
1) Incorporate Traditional Indian Motifs — Incorporating traditional Indian motifs into your salon’s interior design is one way to create an inviting atmosphere for customers while still maintaining a sense of authenticity within the space. Consider using paisley prints or intricate embroidery on furniture pieces or walls throughout the space for a classic look with a touch of elegance.
2) Use Natural Materials — Natural materials such as stone or wood flooring can help give your salon an authentic feel while still being easy to maintain over time. Additionally, these materials often come with unique textures which add visual interest throughout the space without taking away from its overall aesthetic appeal.
3) Choose Functional Furniture Pieces — When selecting furniture pieces for your salon’s interior design it’s important to choose pieces that are both stylish and functional at the same time. Consider choosing chairs with adjustable heights so customers can find their ideal comfort level while getting their hair or manicures done comfortably without having to worry about being too low or too high off the ground during their service appointment time frame.
4) Utilize Modern Lighting Fixtures — Modern lighting fixtures such as LED lights or spotlights help create an inviting atmosphere while also providing ample illumination throughout the entire space which helps customers see clearly when getting their services done without having any issues due to poor lighting conditions.
5) Add Storage Solutions — Make sure there are enough storage solutions throughout the entire space so products and tools remain organized at all times while also being easily accessible when needed by staff members during service appointments.
6) Incorporate Bold Colors — Incorporating bold colors into your salon’s interior design helps give it personality while also making it stand out from other salons in town. Consider using bright reds, blues, yellows, greens, purples, etc throughout different areas within the space depending on what type of look you’re going for.
By following these tips, you should be able to create an inviting atmosphere within your salon while still maintaining its overall aesthetic appeal. With careful planning, creativity, and attention to detail, you should be able to create a beautiful yet functional interior design within your business.
How to Choose the Right Salon Interior Design Company in India
When it comes to creating the perfect salon interior design in India, it’s important to choose the right company for the job. With so many different companies offering their services, it can be difficult to know which one is best suited for your needs. Here are some tips on how you can choose the right salon interior design company in India:
1) Research Different Companies — Before making any decisions, it’s important to research different companies and compare their services, prices, and portfolios. This will help you get a better understanding of what each company has to offer and which one is best suited for your needs.
2) Ask For References — Once you have narrowed down your list of potential companies, it’s important to ask for references from past clients so you can get an idea of their level of service and quality of work. This will help ensure that you are choosing a reputable company that will be able to deliver on its promises.
3) Consider Their Portfolio — It’s also important to consider a company’s portfolio when making your decision as this will give you an idea of their style and creativity when it comes to designing salons. Look at their past projects and see if they have created something similar to what you are looking for in terms of style and functionality.
4) Discuss Your Budget — Make sure that you discuss your budget with the company before signing any contracts so that there are no surprises down the line. This will help ensure that both parties are on the same page when it comes to costs and expectations.
5) Ask About Their Process — Finally, make sure that you ask about their process when it comes to designing salons so that you know what steps they take from start to finish. This will help ensure that everything runs smoothly throughout the entire project from beginning to end.

Mukesh Ambani’s luxurious home fact guide
Tumblr media
The head of Reliance Industries and multibillionaire industrialist Mukesh Ambani owns Antilia, a private house in Mumbai, India. With its distinctive and extravagant facilities, this magnificent home, created by the Chicago-based architecture company Perkins+Will, has attracted attention worldwide. Here is a fact sheet on Antilia that covers its background, architecture, amenities, price, and detractors.
History
2010 saw the completion of Antilia after almost ten years of planning and building. The house has the name of the fabled island of Antilia, which is thought to have once been located in the Atlantic. The structure has 27 stories and is one of the tallest private mansions in the world at 173 metres.
The mansion is on Altamount Road, one of Mumbai's priciest and most exclusive streets, renowned for its opulent residences and upscale retail. Mukesh Ambani paid over $63 million for the land on which Antilia is situated in 2002.
Design
In contrast to Mumbai's conventional architecture, Antilia is a cutting-edge, inventive, and distinctively designed structure. The structure has a sleek, modern façade of steel and glass built to endure natural disasters like earthquakes. Vaastu Shastra, an ancient Indian architectural discipline that aims to foster harmony between nature and the created world, inspired the building's design. The house's interior is impressive, with various opulent materials like marble, crystal, and gold. One of the largest private mansions in the world, the house is over 400,000 square feet. It has a ballroom, a theatre, a spa, a gym, various swimming pools and six stories of parking. It also features a temple, a salon, several guest rooms, and complete air conditioning.
The most distinctive aspect of the property may be the unusual vertical garden, which spans many stories and includes a variety of plants and trees. The park creates a tranquil and natural ambience within the house and helps control the temperature.
Features
Antilia is homemade to accommodate all its residents' needs, offering an unmatched magnificent and pleasant lifestyle in India. Three helipads are on the home's roof and can be used for transportation or emergency evacuation. A cutting-edge security system for the home also includes a command centre, bulletproof glass, and a sophisticated surveillance setup. The private theatre, which can hold up to 50 people and is located on the eighth level, is one of Antilia's most spectacular attractions. The theatre offers an unmatched movie experience thanks to its high-definition projector, Dolby surround sound, and plush leather seats. The home also contains a two-story entertainment complex with a dance studio, a yoga room, and a gym.
Cost
With an estimated $2 billion price tag, Antilia is among the most expensive private residences in the entire world. The expense of building and maintaining the home is substantial, and the annual cost of property taxes alone is predicted to reach close to $1 million.
Criticism
Many people have criticised Antilia, especially in India, where inequality and poverty are pervasive. Critics contend that building such a lavish and pricey home is evidence of the widening income gap in India and shows the gap between the nation's wealthiest citizens and the rest of the people. It has been criticised for being an extravagant display of money in a country where millions of people struggle to make ends meet due to the size of the mansion and its abundant amenities, which are perceived by many as a display of wealth and power.
In addition, the environmental impact of Antilia's construction on the neighbourhood has drawn criticism. Due to its scale and flashy features, the structure uses many resources and energy to sustain itself. The high levels of carbon emissions it emits are thought to be contributing factors to climate change and global warming.
Conclusion
In conclusion, Antilia is a magnificent, cutting-edge private home displaying Mukesh Ambani and his family's wealth and influence. The house is one of the most talked-about structures in the world, thanks to its distinctive architecture, plentiful amenities, and unmatched grandeur. However, due to criticism and debate regarding its design and luxury, it has brought attention to India's widening income gap and the adverse environmental effects of such extravagant displays of wealth.

India at Milan Design Week 2018
Where does India stand on the global design map? Must Indian design be inherently ‘Indian’ to make a mark on foreign shores? Have we broken free of the mandatory kitsch long associated with our country’s design culture. These and other questions pop up as Beverly Pereira from IAnD speaks to five Indian designers, whose work is on display at the ongoing Milan Design Week 2018. Famous Muses & Groupies in Rock Music Pt. 34
MUSE: Pattie Boyd (full name Patricia Anne Boyd)
Pattie truly needs no introduction, but here’s one anyway, lol. Pattie was born on March 17th, 1944 in Somerset, England. Like a lot of girls born on St. Patrick’s Day, she was given the name Patricia as a reference. She was the first born child of Colin and Diana Boyd, and has three younger siblings: Colin Jr., Jenny and Paula. Later after Colin and Diana divorced, Diana re-married and Pattie gained four more half-siblings. Both Jenny and Paula are former models and music muses like their big sister. From 1948-53, the Boyd family lived in Nairobi, Kenya while Colin was discharged from the Royal Air Force. Pattie and her siblings were primarily educated at private schools after the family moved back to England, with Pattie working as a shampoo girl at a salon after graduation. It was there that a client who worked for Honey Magazine convinced Pattie to give modeling a try. Soon the young blonde girl was being hired for advertisements, TV commercials, fashion spreads, runways/catwalks and magazine covers by 1963. She was a favorite of photographer David Bailey and a muse to designer Ossie Clark. Even film director Richard Lester was somewhat inspired by Pattie after he worked with her on a snack commercial and then gave her a minor role in his film A Hard Day’s Night (1964). She also supplied a cameo in Lester’s follow-up zany comedy The Knack…and How to Get It (1965).
Not only is Pattie considered one of the original supermodels of the 1960s next to Jean Shrimpton and Twiggy, but she is also the quintessential music muse in classic rock. During the filming of A Hard Day’s Night, Pattie’s co-star, George Harrison of the Beatles, asked her out. Her popularity then soared even higher as the girlfriend of the most famous guitarist of the British Invasion. George and Pattie were THE power couple of rock music scene in the ‘60s, and lived the high life of Swinging London. The love birds eventually married on January 21st, 1966, and spent most of their relationship living on the properties Kinfauns in Surrey and later Friar Park in Oxfordshire. On the exterior, Pattie had it all: more photoshoot and ad offers than ever, four Vogue Magazine covers in 1969, an attractive, charming rockstar husband, and friendships with fellow muses and stars like Marianne Faithfull and Jane Asher. Pattie and Jenny even ran their own fashion boutique in 1968 called Juniper in Chelsea Market, after the song ‘Jennifer Juniper,’ Donovan wrote for Jenny. Like most musician wives/girlfriends, Pattie was at many of the band’s events and shows. She, along with Cynthia Lennon and Maureen Starkey, traveled with the Beatles on location for the production of Help! (1965), the band’s second film with Lester. She was also at the live 1967 TV taping of ‘All You Need Is Love;’ appeared in the music videos for ‘A Day in the Life’ (1967) and ‘Something’ (1969); was at the movie premiere of Yellow Submarine (1968); modeled for Apple Boutique—owned by the band in ’67-68; visited Rishikesh, India with the band on their spring 1968 spiritual retreat, and so on.
But on the interior, George & Pattie had almost as many problems as they did perks. Only a couple years into their marriage, Pattie discovered she was infertile. In her 2007 memoir Wonderful Tonight, Pattie says that George wanted to start a family eventually and didn’t want to adopt. He also told her she should quit modeling when they got engaged, but she was still interested in her career. A year into dating, the two had an unfortunate experience where they drank spiked tea with LSD at a party, and the final year of their relationship George was a cokehead. Though both were interested in learning about Indian culture at first, George became obsessed with playing sitar and practicing Hinduism to the point of it effecting their sex life. And of course, George and his bandmates still had groupies on tours and in the studio, which Pattie couldn’t accompany him on because of her fashion jobs. George later had a quick affair with model Charlotte Martin in 1968 while Charlotte was spending the week in their house. In 1973, George & Pattie participated in a wife-swap with Ronnie & Krissy Wood, with George and Krissy going on vacation together, and Ronnie and Pattie staying behind at Friar Park. The final straw, as Pattie considers, was George sleeping with bandmate Ringo Starr’s wife Maureen in 1974. The Harrisons officially divorced in June 1977.
But the biggest instigator and infamous blow to the Harrison marriage was George’s ‘best friend’ Eric Clapton. A guitar god on stage and in the studio, but kinda a douche at home. In 1968, Eric grew strongly attracted to Pattie, to the point that he dumped live-in girlfriend Charlotte Martin because he couldn’t stop thinking about Pattie. In Wonderful Tonight, Pattie suggests the main reason Charlotte slept with George was out of spite from the break-up. Naturally Pattie denied Eric in 1969 when he first declared his love (though in Eric’s own 2007 memoir, Clapton, he claims they’d already made out at this point). Rather than move on, he spent six months shacking up and doing drugs with Pattie’s 17-year-old sister Paula. After his fling with Paula, Eric spent a year with his new band, Derek & the Dominos, composing and recording the 1970 album ‘Layla & Other Assorted Love Songs.’ Every track, excluding the covers, was written about Pattie. It sucks Eric was basically a creep during all this because, IMO, ‘Layla’ is the great rock anthem of all time, and the rest of the album is amazing.
Pattie eventually did officially reciprocate Eric’s feelings in 1975, and they married on March 27th, 1979. Except that Eric was stoned or drunk their whole relationship, carried on with groupies on the road, began seeing future wife Lory del Santo while still with Pattie, was distant emotionally, etc. Basically a repeat of her marriage to George, but 100x worse. The worst moment was probably when Pattie was still living with George, and Eric threatened to snort a bag of heroin if she didn’t leave George (why do people like them together??). Pattie also attempted to get pregnant in 1984 with vitro fertilization, but that only caused two miscarriages. :( She moved out of their house in 1987, and filed for divorce a year later.
So what was the consolation for all this bullshit for two decades? How about a dozen of the best songs ever written. Forget ‘Layla,’ what about ‘Bell Bottom Blues,’ and ‘Wonderful Tonight?’ Or ‘I Need You?’ Or ‘If I Needed Someone?’ Or ‘For You Blue’ and ‘Old Brown Shoe?’ ‘Something??’ Yeah, I know George denied the last one, but LBR, he down played a lot of Beatles stuff after he married and had a kid with Olivia Arias. So while Pattie could hold a grudge and completely ignore her musical impact like Jane Asher, she’s owned up to the title of rock’s greatest muse; despite years of jealous fangirls and sexist fanboys. #kween Since the 1990s, Pattie’s been with third husband Rod Weston and has toured with two photography exhibits in 2006-2010 and 2011 on her own photos she’s shot. She’s also appeared in various documentaries like “The Beatles Anthology” (1995-96), Living in the Material World (2011) and Life in 12 Bars (2017). In her book, she retrospectively called George the love of her life, and felt Eric was probably only obsessed with her out of a musical jealousy with George.

Belhurst Castle
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Belhurst Castle is located in the city of Geneva in the state of New York, United States. The castle sits on the shores of Seneca Lake and once served as a private residence. The property that surrounds the castle was originally the site of a Seneca Indian village and home to the Council of the six nations of Iroquois. Built between 1885-1889, the three-story castle was designed in the Romanesque Revival style and made with Medina sandstone. The castle has a gable roof, a solarium, bay windows, porches, and towers. In 1933, the castle was used as a gambling casino and a speakeasy during the prohibition era. In 1952, the gambling stopped and the castle was transformed into a hotel and winery. The interior boasts two ballrooms, two restaurants, a spa, a salon, and a winery. Belhurst Castle is listed on the National Register of Historic Properties and voted one of the Most Romantic Places in New York State. All three buildings on the property offer accommodations. The Chambers in the Castle offers eleven period designed guest rooms, as well as two cottages and a ranch home. White Springs Manor is a Georgian Revival mansion that is more secluded and overlooks the vineyards. The Vinifera Inn has views of Seneca Lake for those who stay in the turret guest rooms; all the rooms at the inn have a fireplace and Jacuzzi.

Best Hair salon in Your Area!
To discover the best hair salon in Werribee in your area, you must first determine whether the salon meets professional standards in terms of interior design and surroundings. The hair care product that is being used must be of professional quality.
Also, make sure that the hairstylists who serve you are dynamic and up-to-date stylists with more than 5 years of experience in the industry. This is because most junior hairstylists with a wealthy family financial background will open their own barber shop after graduating from the hair academy, and all of these hairstylists will not give you a good hair result after your visit.
Tumblr media
However, the hairstylist who serves you must also demonstrate their expertise in current hair design by providing prestigious, customized cut and coloring procedures to fit each client’s sophisticated demands. There are several events these days, and each consumer will seek for a distinctive hairstyle for each occasion. As a result, this is the hairstylist’s responsibility to their salon in order to give top-quality service and innovative cutting skills for a variety of situations.
You can check for the best Indian Facial Near me at any hair salon in India that is close to your area. However, if you want to style your hair in a unique way that complements your image, you’ll need to do some research to locate barbershops in your neighborhood.
Today, most local hair salons will want to include themselves in the yellow pages, on search engines, on the radio, and on television for advertising. Meanwhile, most barbershops now choose to publish their salon business activities on Facebook, so that each of their friends may share information and help each other enhance their hair salon company. The top hair salons will usually specialize in a variety of hairstyles to complement your appearance.
When looking for Waxing Near Me, you may want to inquire about the back-use salon product that the hairstylist is using, especially if you want to wax. You must ensure that the product you put in your body is a well-known global product that has been certified by your local health ministry.

Location: Haryana, northern India
The Camellias in Gurugram, Haryana, North India
India’s leading property developer, DLF unveils The Camellias Club: a world-first for the global real estate market
India’s largest real estate developer, DLF officially unveils The Camellias Club: one of the largest wellbeing and leisure residential facilities in the world: a futuristic urban oasis for residents of DLF’s new super-luxury residence The Camellias in Gurugram, India.
The Camellias Club is the vision of six of the very best designers from across the world: a communal experience centered around holistic wellness, far exceeding the standards of most five-star luxury hotels.
The onset of the global pandemic has reshaped urban living, highlighting the importance of wellbeing, community and sustainable living. And so the launch of The Camellias – the first sustainable super luxury residential development in India – and its Club, as a unique hub that supports the health and wellbeing of residents, could not be more relevant.
From the outset, sustainability has been a guiding principle at The Camellias. It is India’s first residential development to be awarded the LEED Platinum Certification by the US Green Building Council for its sustainability and energy conservation effort. Further still, DLF is the only Indian real estate company listed on the Dow Jones Sustainability Index.
This careful and considered approach is evident throughout the Camellias development: solar power significantly reduces energy consumption, all green areas – including the golf course – are entirely irrigated by recycled treated water, and over 100 mature trees (which were due to be felled in other parts of the city) were transplanted to a new home at The Camellias. These trees form part of the 25,000 carefully-preserved mature trees in the wider DLF5 Golf Links neighbourhood: an area that has the largest diversity of migratory birds in the region.
DLF worked with Shawn Sullivan, Partner and Studio Leader at Rockwell Group on the architectural and interior design of The Club. Jay Wright, CEO of The Wright Fit is behind state-of-the-art fitness centre; Ingo Schweder, Founder of GOCO Hospitality designed the spa; Arnold Chan, Founder of Isometrix Lighting + Design delivered the lighting design; and Gerdo Aquino, Co-CEO of SWA Group designed the landscape architecture. All worked closely with the principal architect of The Camellias, Architect Hafeez Contractor.
The premise of The Camellias Club was to create a 160,000 sq ft elevated living space at the heart of The Camellias community. True to this vision, the bi-level clubhouse comprises seven ‘energy zones’: Active (the fitness centre/gym), Social (the ballroom, many restaurants and retail proposition), Regenerative (the indoor and outdoor pools), Renewed (the spa), Creative (the performance hall), Competitive (the bowling alley, karaoke, games room) and Relaxed (the yoga and Pilates studios and meditation garden).
Inspired by the vital energies, these seven zones encourage a connection with self, others and the natural world in what is undoubtedly the most imaginative bi-level Club space created anywhere in the world and, more importantly, one which has environmentally sustainability at the very core.
The Camellias Club innovatively blends this sense of connectedness and community with an unprecedented level of service and world-class amenities, on a scale like no other:
• The 30,000 sq ft spa features a 25m heated indoor pool, jacuzzies, vitality pool, floatation pool, salt room, steam room, snow room, sauna, floatation room, Hammam room, Rhassoul room, therapy rooms (each with a sunken garden), a hair salon and barber shop
• The 12,000 sq ft fitness centre is the first project of this scale undertaken outside of the US by the critically-acclaimed Wright Fit. The gym features the full range of top-of-the-line equipment (think: inclined treadmills, skill bikes, TRX facilities) alongside a professional boxing ring, rockclimbing wall, Pilates studio and yoga room (complete with private sunken courtyard garden offering rainwater experiences on warm days and hammocks for aerial yoga). The outdoor fitness offering includes an all-weather sports field, mini soccer field, tennis courts, squash courts and plastic-free children’s play area
• The clubhouse is home to five F&B outlets that includes a multicuisine restaurant, two bars, a patisserie and boulangerie, and a health café & juice bar, each offering a curated, globallyinspired dining experience. The main restaurant, Meros (Greek for ‘part’) is more akin to a series of restaurants in terms of its design and offers a variety of cuisines – including continental, Indian and Asian – al-fresco dining and three private dining rooms (one a Chef’s Studio). Residents also have use of a piano bar, French-style boulangerie and brasserie, juice bar and sports bar, which plays hosts to top DJs and live-bands at weekends. For private functions there is the ballroom and performance hall: the latter hosting movie screenings, theatre, recitals and talks
• The clubhouse also has plenty by way of entertainment: a four lane bowling alley, games lounge, karaoke lounge, cigar room and The Den (a private poker and card room)
• A business centre and a luxury retailspace inside the club. And and areas such as creche, medical facilities, library, art gallery, gourmet grocery store and some more lifestyle retail points in the promenade of the tower lobbies.
Fluid transitions between the interior and exterior of the clubhouse maintain a connection with the natural world that surrounds and The Camellias’ residential towers:
• A monumental 1.3 acre water garden – itself divided into five fan-shaped reflecting pools – creates the sensation of walking on water and perfectly reflects the starry skies of an evening
• The seven landscaped roofs of The Club are shaped to signify the petals of a camellia flower when seen from the residences
• A small orchard of lemon and lime trees offers a shady spot for a stroll
• A sculpture and art garden will soon host exhibitions
• An amphitheatre will champion the performing arts
The feeling of fluidity and calm is enhanced by the use of finely-crafted natural materials and organic elements throughout the design. In the lobby of The Club, a dramatic bronze and marble spiral staircase creates a theatrical entrance, while a grand fluid chandelier cascades like rain and a leafy interior courtyard opens to the sky.
Located in the highly sought-after millennium city Gurugram, The Camellias Club is unquestionably the first of its kind in the world in terms of scale, amenities, facilities and service. The Camellias sets a new standard for sustainable luxury living in India and is one of the most exciting and coveted residential addresses in the country. Credited with bringing the concept of super luxury condominium living to India, DLF has created an exceptional living and working space in this new city, redefining not only the way real estate looks at luxury, but also how luxury looks at real estate.
Aakash Ohri, Group Executive Director and Chief Business Officer at DLF Home Developers Ltd. says: “The Camellias Club spans an impressive 160,000 sq ft of space and, within this, we have brought together a range of amenities and services that outclass most such Clubs anywhere in the world. Fine dining sits along cutting-edge fitness and wellness facilities and cleverly-designed entertainment and retail spaces: all with exemplary sustainability credentials. The Club is designed with its community in mind: an extension of the residences and a second home for those that live there: discerning, international families of all ages.”

Today approximately 600 franchisors are spread across the country in various industries ranging from education, retail, beauty & healthcare, interiors, professional services, fashion & apparel etc. In the Indian Franchising scenario, the education sector is leading with retail catching up. Most of the franchisors in India are new and small. Many Indian corporate houses are also showing interest in franchising which has resulted in newer and innovative ideas to introduce. However, in franchising, the franchisors have the ability to work with the franchisors to become aware of the knowledge about local market conditions. Also franchise business is generally better advertised and branded and therefore gets easily established when compared to a traditional business model. In a franchising business model, the franchisor provides the franchisee with training and technical knowledge by the franchisor which prevents the chances of mistakes due to lack of training and experience. Cindy Chao’s New Shanghai Showroom Celebrates Art And Design

Cindy Chao’s New Shanghai Showroom Celebrates Art And Design
The salon in Cindy Chao’s Shanghai showroom with custom designed furnishings reflecting Chao’s … [] personality and style
Cindy Chao’s first showroom in mainland China has the makings of a masterpiece, which coincidentally is the name she gives her most precious and sought-after jewelry creations. The new space on Yuanmingyuan Road was unveiled in mid-November and is open for private appointments. It joins her two showrooms in Hong Kong and her native Taipei.
Yuanmingyuan Road is a quiet pedestrian-only street a stone’s throw away from The Bund, the city’s crowded waterfront attraction. The prestigious street is known for its historic century-old buildings that are in such pristine condition, it seems as if they were recreated recently. The street is lined with luxury stores and art galleries. Chao’s showroom is next to the building that houses Christie’s Shanghai office.
The entrance to Cindy Chao’s Shanghai showroom with timber panels on the walls sculpted by a Dutch … [] master carver
Chao, in a recent interview said the plan was to build her third showroom in London but the global coronavirus pandemic put that project on hold, so she shifted her priorities to Shanghai, where the luxury market is robust.
“The china market is booming,” she said in a recent interview. “Art fairs held in the country this year were well attended with collectors from everywhere in china. The galleries sold out of pieces. The dynamic is good. That’s why we shifted to Shanghai first.”
The only display case is at the entrance to Cindy Chao’s Shanghai showroom
Chao, the granddaughter of an architect and the daughter of a sculptor, is known for her sculptural gem-encrusted jewels, marketed under the Cindy Chao The Art Jewel brand, that combine multiple regional influences with Western craftsmanship. She combined these myriad influences in the design of her new space by using designers and artists from Europe with international pedigree.
The space was designed by Dutch architect, Tom Postma, known for his museum installations and for designing the interior of the iconic TEFAF Maastricht art fair, where Chao has exhibited the past two years. Postma also collaborated with Chao for her exhibition booth at the 2020 art fair held in March.
The library in Cindy Chao’s Shanghai showroom
She uses the word “maison” to describe the space and it seems appropriate. In fact, she sees the space as an extension of her home. Remarkably, there is only one wall-mounted display case for her jewels in the entire space. “It’s for friends and collectors that’s very comfortable and peaceful. I think to create a less commercialized environment brings a different perspective to jewelry.”
The multiple rooms within the space seem to combine the atmosphere of a museum, library and a living room. Dark, neutral hues are dominate on the walls, floors and most of the furnishings with splashes of contrasting white on the ceilings, throw carpets and some of the plusher furnishings. Books and various original artworks are placed within the rooms. Ambient and recessed lighting are used throughout space, complemented in some rooms by outside light. Chao, a stickler for detail, was heavily involved in the design and construction.
The salon and library areas. On the left is one of two custom Chinoiserie-style cabinets
The narrow entryway was designed with inspiration from early Eastern and Western religious architecture. Timber panels covering the walls were sculpted by a Dutch master carver. Each panel is unique, bearing the marks of the chisel held by the craftsman. The hallway leads to the singular display case, which is cast in bronze and hand-sculpted by Postma. The display is situated next to a large hand-carved sliding door that welcomes collectors into the lounge. Almost every piece of furniture in the lounge was custom designed for the space, reflecting Chao’s personality and style. Postma was responsible for the design of various pieces such as the library desk, the round table, side tables, door handles, washroom furniture and built-in furniture.
The 880-pound bronze door at the entrance and gold-colored back wall in the VIP room were designed by Ingrid Donat, a French-Swedish sculptor who specializes in decorative arts. The door is comprised of eight pieces of hand carved bronze panels. The gold-colored back wall in the VIP room is created in a Baka pattern – inspired from primitive and tribal arts. Chao says the pattern injects the cold and flat textures with movement, warmth, and life. The patterns were constructed by hand on aluminum, using custom tools and the use of heat to manipulate the material, with patinas to animate it further.
The VIP room with a custom-designed golden back wall
In the lounge is a pair of Asian-themed cabinets that Chao calls “Armoires Parade,” custom-made by French designer, Hervé Van der Straeten. The cabinets are veneered with ancient Chinese lacquered panels, lacquered wood and patinated bronze. The inside is made out of Indian rosewood featuring intriguing floating shelves with bronze decorative elements. The pair of cabinets took eight months to make and required 1,200 hours of precision artisan work that included cabinetry, bronze work, lacquer work and ancient lacquers restoration. “These cabinets are the contemporary interpretation of the taste for Chinoiseries and cross-culture integration between Eastern and Western artistry,” Chao says.
The showroom also contains bronze animal sculptures created by French artist, Daniel Daviau, whose sculptures are collected worldwide.
Chao says the space prepares collectors “to be most emotionally receptive” to her creativity and artistry.
