Rarepairs that I think could work
Tumblr media
Hijikata x Tae
There aren't many scenes where they interact, but the ones they do, they show chemistry and are fun together. On one hand, Hijikata has always been a very respectful guy towards Tae, even when he argues with her. Besides, he has a good salary, and she likes his way of flirting. On the other hand, while the similarities between Tae and Mitsuba can be somewhat disconcerting to Hijikata and may influence him to take the same path, Tae with her strong personality would knock some sense into him. I like to imagine that she is the one who falls in love first and that Hijikata is conflicted about it. Likewise, the potential drama that would ensue with Kondou would be very interesting, as well as seeing him eventually give them his blessing because he appreciates them so much and wants them to be happy.
Tumblr media
Kondou x Hinowa
Although I love Kondou, I’ve to admit his stalker side isn’t the best, even if it’s used in a comical way. He and Hinowa never spoke, which is a shame since they’d so much potential, starting with both being considered the core of their organization (the soul of the Shinsengumi / the sun of Yoshiwara). I like to imagine the Shinsengumi members urging Kondou to go to Yoshiwara to get over Tae. But he, not in the mood to visit a courtesan, simply goes to Hinowa's Tea House, and there they meet, talk, and Hinowa comforts him. Although Kondou finds her very beautiful, unlike with Tae, he doesn't fall in love at first sight with her or stalks her, but they form a nice friendship first. Hinowa might start to see Kondou as a potential partner by appreciating how fatherly Kondou is to Seita, and the three of them could be seen having family moments together. The fact that Hinowa is slightly older than Kondou adds an interesting factor. Also, this would allow the Shinsengumi to be connected to Yoshiwara in a more direct way, since they didn’t associate much during the series.
Tumblr media
Kyuubei x Pirako
As in the previous case, they didn’t interact. However, I think their dynamic would’ve been fun, with Kyuubei being the tsukkomi to Pirako's boke. Interesting rivalry scenarios could also arise, as Kyuubei is a member of an aristocratic samurai family and Pirako is a yakuza. Thus, they would’ve some fights and banter. While one learns to let go and be more chaotic, the other learns to be more compassionate and honest. They could also bond over their fathers, who forced them to live experiences against their will (being raised as a boy and abandonment). Being both katana users, they would practice and polish their sword skills together while getting closer and closer.

Hello again everyone!! Long time no see! Hope you’ve all been doing well (or as well as can be with the pandemic and all) and you’re all looking after yourselves!
This is going to be very sentimental (at times too sentimental lol) but here we go:
I’m making this post as a message to everyone that followed my Gintama art on tumblr up until now, whether that be every single one of my uploads or even just a single like on ONE of my sketches, this message is to you:
Tumblr media
When I first started uploading art online, I believe it was mostly Gintama focused. Occasionally I would go to other series to try out something new, but in the end I would always come back home to Gintama.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
There’s no doubt in my mind that my art style, my inspirations, my love for anime/manga and Japan in general… all of it stemmed from this amazing series… and I’m so grateful for that… so… so grateful…
Tumblr media
Heck, I’m living in Japan now partially thanks to some things Gintama taught me. I learnt Japanese through it and as cheesy as it sounds, it’s somewhat shaped me into who I am today.
Tumblr media
I’ve gone through some of the toughest moments in my life with Gintama being the thing that puts a smile on my face. Again… forever grateful.
Tumblr media
And to be honest… it’s not just the Gintama that kept me drawing art in the first place, it was mostly you guys.
Tumblr media
People like @gintamajustaway , @bossladytae , @gintokiu , @tendogumi and so many others. You’ve supported my work for such a long time and with all of your reblogs and likes, I was able to get great criticism and feedback from everyone! Heck, even now people are reblogging and commenting on my work from years ago.
Tumblr media
To all the artist friends on here too! You’ve all given me a bunch of ideas that I loved drawing over the years. I hope you all keep drawing what you love and get better and better too!
Tumblr media
I’ve said it countless times to you all but thank you so much! You’ve pushed me and encouraged me to keep pursuing a passion I’ve loved since I was a kid drawing little stick figure dragon ball comics. Thank you, from the bottom of my heart.
Now on to the reason for this message. As you can tell, I haven’t been posting recently, let alone Gintama pieces. After watching the final movie and drawing my last piece for the series, I decided to move on.
Like I said before, Gintama was always the home for me to come back to, but this time it kind of felt like how you turn into an adult and leave home for the first time. That’s been me for this past year or so now. But a home is a home and it’s not going anywhere that’s for sure. If the series I currently enjoy drawing becomes too difficult for me, or the fandom becomes too toxic, home will always be there to go back to.
This is basically a message saying that I won’t be posting any Gintama related things for a while now. I’ll be drawing a bunch of other series and improving my art as I go. But when I feel like I need to come home, expect some Gintama art (or at least sketches) sometime in the future.
For those of you that follow me for Gintama art/related content, first of all I apologize for the absence. You’re more than welcome to unfollow me. And if you do, let me just say thank you for everything up until now!
Until I come home, thank you all so much!

Get To Know Me: Fic Writer Edition
Borrowing this from @naladot 💙 I’m going to be mainly talking about Gintama for this due to my blog’s nature.
Name: @bossladytae or Garowyn
Fandoms: Fic-wise, Gintama right now. But I’ve written for a number of different fandoms over the last 18 years.
Most popular fic: Top two by kudos: Catharsis and A Siege of Shadows Top two by comments: A Siege of Shadows and The Key to Success Is to Plan for Failure Top two by bookmarks: The Key to Success Is to Plan for Failure and A Rabbit with No Name Top two by subscriptions: A Rabbit with No Name and A Siege of Shadows
As appreciative as I am about kudos, it would be nice to hear more from readers if they enjoy my stories.
Personal favorite: There’s a special place for each fic in my heart, so I’ll talk about seven of them:
A Siege of Shadows – this is my Hijikata psychological/horror fic and probably the one I’m most proud of. I invested a lot into this fic, everything from various topics of research to careful selection of songs for each chapter’s mood. Sorry, Toushi, for putting you through a hellish nightmare of a tale.
Until Silence Prevails – delving into the dark depths of Takasugi’s mind. It’s my shortest fic, but still packed with meaning.
Keep Walking Forward Until You Never Look Back – this is a multi-chapter, character study on Sasaki Tetsunosuke, which is the first of its kind for Tetsu, I believe. I fleshed him out more and focused on his bond with the Shinsengumi, Hijikata in particular.
The Key to Success Is to Plan for Failure – a multi-chapter Katsura-led comedy fic featuring POV scenes from almost the entire main Gintama cast. This fic was a monster to write, utterly exhausting, yet a worthwhile venture for me.
The Transience of Dawn – an Itou character study focusing on three events in his life. It’s set before he reunites with the Shinsengumi in what will be his final days. Itou is my favourite antagonist after Takasugi, so I had to write about him.
Finding the Light That Never Fades – my favourite HijiTae fic of all the ones I’ve written, thus far. This combined comedy and drama with a touch of angst and romance, as Hijikata and Tae navigate their deepening friendship and budding attraction to one another.
Finding Our Place in the Sun – a fic about Tae and Tsukuyo spending time together. That’s pretty much all there is to it, because Tae and Tsukuyo content is still a scarcity in this fandom, and that’s a darn shame.
Current WIPs: Violet Moon Rising, which is a Tsukuyo-led film noir-inspired fic dedicated to @arirna. A Rabbit with No Name, a Kamui-centric AU in which almost everyone, including Kagura, has died as the result of a powerful android invasion. I do intend to update these fics once time allows me to, as I’m quite busy at the moment.
I also have several unpublished, semi-complete Gintama fics that I’ve accumulated over the last 15 years since I started dabbling in Gintama fic (but never finishing or posting anything until 2017, lol).
Favorite type of fic: I like writing a variety of fic. I’ve done character introspections, romance, comedy, action, psychological, horror/supernatural, time travel, and mysteries. Basically, whenever and whatever the muse strikes and provides, I may just write it. However, I’m slow with updates, because fan fic isn’t a priority.
As far as fic-reading habits go, pretty much the only Gintama romance fic I write or read is HijiTae whenever someone writes a new one, whether that someone is me or others. I have dabbled in fic for two other ships (it’s a secret; please don’t ask because I really won’t be telling!), but they’re unpublished and unfinished. If I ever do finish them, I may publish them with my pseudonym account (also a secret).
Beyond that, I like to read character studies, mysteries/psychological, or comedy/gen fic that involves characters other than the Yorozuya because there are already so many dedicated to them. Whatever catches my eye depends on whenever I check Gintama’s AO3 section.
Writing habits: I don’t think I have any standout ones. I just write whenever I can, especially if the muse is strong. Also, I read. Writers must always be reading. Don’t only read fan fic. Read other fiction, non-fiction, anything you can. Read inside and outside your favourite genre. Study the different styles. Read, and then write; write, and then read. Keep up a daily writing and reading routine if you can.
Fic recs: I’ve read many with interesting concepts, but, to keep it short, I’ll rec five Gintama fics.
Plan B by xxkoffeexx – the second HijiTae fic ever written in English back in 2009, and it’s dedicated to me by an old friend.
Your World by xxkoffeexx – a story about when Takasugi was a hero, not a villain, to somebody.
Jump is best when fought over by maydreamer – a short but meaningful Zenzou fic, as he tries to buy Jump magazine in a world without Gintoki.
They Say It’s Only the Worst Day of Your Life So Far by StarryDustandFluffyStuff – a fic on Katsura’s wartime experiences following Shouyou’s death.
Tiger Mom by gettinyinggywithit – a Tsukuyo introspective fic on education, family, and her role in Seita’s life.

tagging: @bossladytae, @sentrakk, @the-rain-transformed, @zuura, @itomorimachi, @nicorobins, @coolthingtrash, @ykchahine and anyone else who wants to try this one
Watashi (Yojōhan Shinwa Taikei) a young student who is obsessed with finding his way to "rose-colored campus life", while being socially awkward mess with wild dreams and no willpower to achieve them - that’s me in a nutshell
Hanekawa Tsubasa (Monogatari Series) a class representative, who hides her insecurities behind the always calm and rational persona? I feel you, Hanekawa
Yamazaki Sagaru (Gintama) he invented blandness and he owns it - I will always root for him (the whole list could’ve been Gintama characters but I decided to limit it to one character from the fandom)
Nozaki Umetarou (Gekkan Shoujo Nozaki Kun) a guy who is obssessed with shoujo romance and has no idea what real relationship looks like? very relatable
Kikuhiko/Yakumo (Shouwa Genroku Rakugo Shinjuu) emotionally distant and secluded guy who prefers to escape from himself and the world around him into the stories he performs for the audience
Elizabeth Bennet (Pride and Prejudice) an oblivious nerd who thinks that they know everything about the world and people surrounding them while it’s actually them who are clueless - can relate
Eva Heinemann (Monster) despite being a walking trainwreck she actually managed to regain her will to live and she even found new goals to achieve - truly an inspiration
Emma Swan (Once Upon a Time) she was an insecure woman who was suffering from abandonment issues, so she decided to surround herself with huge emotional walls to protect herself from the pain. Thankfully her journey ended with her finding her family, new friends and new love and - the most important part - she finally learned to love herself. I hope we all will achieve the same in our lives.
