Chapter Sixteen (Part 2)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
As final term goes on I seem to have a lot less time to socialise than I used to, spending late evenings in the computer room polishing off my digital art piece, or down in the life drawing studio compiling my best drawings from the year, or in the library composing my critical cultures essay, hours spent pouring over books to cite, researching and learning all about my chosen topic, which is the fashion and textile of Asian tribes.
Tumblr media
For most of this time I am alone, but for the times I amn’t, it’s because I’m with Dean. Whenever he has time off work he’ll join me in the lab or the studio or the library and we’ll sit there together silently working through the evening, ankles intertwined beneath the desks as we pore over books about contemporary ceramics, ancient civilisations, Iranian cinema, pop art and the frescoes of Pompeii. The clocks change in late March, and even as April comes and the sky is bright until late into the evening, we stay until the sun goes down and the light fades from the room and all that’s left is the fluorescence from the lamp on the table between us to light the pages of our books.
Tumblr media
“Do you ever get sick of this?” He asks me quietly one evening as I organise my bibliography on my laptop. I lift my head to look at him, hand fisted on his cheek as he stabs his own keyboard with one finger. “Sometimes.” I say. “But I think my essay is finally coming together.”
He huffs. “It’s so stupid that we have to do this writing shite, this is supposed to be a fine arts degree.”
“Yeah I get that but it’s also an academic degree. There has to be some sort of essay portion, I don’t think you’ll ever get away without having to do it.”
“I’m terrible at writing.” He frowns. “And I’m so sick of reading these stupid books about fucking pottery, the words they use are such bullshit, it’s like these writers are having a contest to see who can make their book the hardest to understand.”
Tumblr media
Dean’s education, as I’ve learned, is a touchy subject for him. He left school when he was fifteen because he had either some difficulties learning or a lack of interest. It isn’t clear to me which, but either way he struggles now because of it. I tried to ask him about it before but I only ended up irritating him and he shut down, so I’m careful before broaching it again. “If you need help with anything just let me know.” I say.
“I don’t.” He goes back to typing something aggressively onto his laptop for several minutes before he whacks the backspace key in frustration and sits there with the heels of his hands dug into his eye sockets. I clear my throat nervously. “Dean, like, I mean it if there’s anything I can do-”
“I don’t need help.” He repeats. “As in, I don’t need you to help me, do you not get it?”
“I get it.” I say quietly. I try to go back to my own citation list but I seem to have lost where I was, my focus having been thrown by him. I scroll back up to the beginning of the bibliography and start checking it again. After several more minutes, he sighs and drops his hands back to his lap, and while I don’t dare look over at him, from the corner of my eye I see him drop his head and shake it from side to side. “I’m so sick of this.” He says. “I’m so tired of spending all of my time in this building. I just go from college to work and back to college again over and over. Everything is shit.”
Tumblr media
“I know it’s hard right now.” I attempt. “But soon it’ll be over and you’ll have so much more time to relax during the summer. At least then when you’ll only be working in Primo you’ll have every afternoon free.”
“Yeah.” He says flatly. I know that it’s more than just pure exhaustion with him, more than just college. It’s his family, his father’s death, his sister, his aunts, all of these things that I can’t even begin to relate to or even know how to comfort him about, things that feel so far out of the scope of my experience that they only serve to remind me of the worlds between he and I, a terrain between us that I can’t traverse. It makes me feel weak, small, ineffective and childish. “I don’t know how to make you feel better.” I tell him.
Tumblr media
He sighs and beckons me towards him. “C’mere.” He says, and when I hesitate he repeats himself. “C’mere.” I get out of my seat and walk around the table to stand in front of him. He slides his hands around my waist and links them at my back, and then rests his cheek against my belly. For a moment I’m not sure what he wants me to do with him, but he hums with approval as I lift a hesitant hand and run it through his hair, the dark roots an inch long now and the bleach turning brassy yellow, beginning to grow long over the tops of his ears. It’s so silent in the empty library, nothing but the buzz of the lightbulbs and the gentle whirr of Dean’s laptop fan. He lifts his head and kisses my ribs, gazing up at me with honey coloured eyes that I am immediately knee deep in. Despite the sharp anglesthere really is something so lovely about his face. He takes me by the hips and pulls me easily down onto his lap.
Tumblr media
“What?” I whisper. I stroke my thumbs over his dark brows and kiss him gently on his nose, and he looks back at me, eyes travelling over my body as he says “just let me kiss you.” He lifts my hands away from him, and the feeling of his fingers on my wrists makes my skin tingle with awareness. Heat flashes in his eyes and the weight of his gaze makes my breath catch in my throat, and when he kisses me he crushes his mouth against mine so suddenly that I want to gasp. He lets go of my wrists to hold my face and I’m free to touch him again, so I sink one hand into his thick hair while the other sweeps down his chest, then his hands grasp at my waist and pull me even closer to him.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
“Is this helping?” I murmur as he begins kissing my throat, and I’m sure that he can feel the flutter of my pulse against his lips.
“Mhm.” He says, and guides me backwards so that the table edge presses into the base of my spine. He lifts me off him so I’m sitting on it, impatiently shoving his laptop and his books out of the way to make some room. I pull back to look at him, enjoying the way that his gaze sweeps over me before he takes me by the jaw and kisses the side of my mouth, his hands travelling to my chest, breath shuddering out of his nose as he captures my mouth again. “The things I want to do to you…” He says between hungry kisses. “If I told you about them they’d make you blush.” He moves his hands underneath me so he can hold me to him, right in the place that he wants me, his knee sliding between my legs until I can feel his thigh…
Tumblr media
“Wait.” I whisper.
His voice sounds hoarse and strained. “Evie… please.”
“We can’t be doing this here. Not in the library.”
He sighs against my collarbone and I feel him resign then, resting his forehead in the curve of my neck. His hands return to my waist. “Okay, it’s just, I think we should keep going.”
“And I think we need to stop.”
Tumblr media
He sighs heavily and slumps back into his chair, his mouth a little swollen from kissing me, his amber coloured eyes expectantly fixed on my face as if waiting for an explanation, and I don’t really know what to say, so I just repeat myself. “Not in the library.”
“If not in the library then where? This is where we always are lately.”
“It’s not true, we go to the park together, we’ve gone to the cinema and to the harbour that time.”
“If we did what I wanted us to do in any of those places then we’d be arrested.”
I feel my cheeks flushed with heat. “Oh, well, I know, but-”
“And I’m not allowed in your apartment either, you’ve made that clear, since you’re hiding me from your housemate, and you won’t come home to my house either.-”
“You live in Kilbarrack.” I reason. “It’s too far away.” He also lives with three very intimidating sounding men with intimidating nicknames, one in particular that they ominously call Bones who I don’t feel ready to be in the presence of.
Tumblr media
“So what do you want from me?” He insists, struggling to keep the impatience from his tone. The impatience that’s been steadily growing over recent weeks. “What is this to you?”
I hesitate. “We’re just getting to know each other.”
“We’re not really, not in the ways I want to get to know you. I just don’t get it. You’re so open with me about everything, your art, your family, your friend Kelly from school who was mean to you, why is it so easy for you to show me all those parts of you but when it comes to sex you’re a closed book?”
“Because that’s private. I’m the kind of person who likes to wait a while.”
He leans forward with his elbows on his knees and looks right up into my face from beneath me. “It’s been a while.” He tells me. “And I don’t get it.”
I cross my arms over my chest. “Why does it have to be all about that for you? Can’t we just keep doing what we’re doing?”
“No.” He says. “Because you aren’t my girlfriend.”
“So unless I’m your girlfriend, it’s impossible for you to care about parts of me that aren’t the ones hidden by my underwear?”
Tumblr media
“No, Evie.” He says, letting out this intense, frustrated little sound as he clenches his fist and throws his body back into the chair again. “Stop twisting everything and acting like the victim, I’m just asking you why you’re so closed. It’s not like you’re a virgin with no experience.”
I nod.
“So is it something about me? Is there something off-putting?”
“No!” I cry. “It’s not that, it’s nothing to do with you at all, I just get nervous.” Distantly, I hear my phone buzz from inside the pocket of my coat that’s draped over the chair behind me. I ignore it.
Dean continues. “So let’s have something to drink first, let’s just relax and I promise that I’ll be nice to you, I’m not trying to hurt you.”
“I know you’re not.” I say in a quiet voice, and he takes my hand, softening his expression as we interlace our fingers, his thumb gently stroking up and down the inner part of my wrist. “Look, Evie.” He says. “If you don’t want to, just say that, and it’ll be grand. I’m not here trying to force you to do anything. I was just asking the questions.”
Tumblr media
“I want to.” I say, and the way he looks at me makes my stomach lurch with anticipation and unease all at once. “But not right now, not tonight, and not here.”
“Okay.” He says, watching me carefully.
“On Thursdays.” I swallow. “My housemate always stays over at her boyfriend’s house in Clonskeagh. I’ll be alone.”
“Thursday.”
“But if I chicken out and I don’t want to do it…”
“Obviously, Evie, then we don’t have to.”
“Okay.”
Tumblr media
He smiles. “Look, I’m going to go home now, I’m tired of being in this building, I feel claustrophobic in it, and my neck hurts.” He stands up and I move out of his way as he snaps his laptop shut and begins gathering up all of his books to put them back onto their corresponding shelves. I stay leaning on the table and watch him as he does it. “It’s going to be fine.” I say, and he looks over his shoulder at me. “Your essay.” I clarify. “You’ll get it done.”
“Oh, that.” He says. “It’s just about the last thing on my mind.” Stuffing his laptop back into its case he says “My essay will be… whatever it ends up being, like. If I cared about it I’d probably be staying here longer. Here, are you gonna leave too? Do you want to walk to the bus together?”
“No, I think I’m going to stay another while and just finish up what I was doing.”
Tumblr media Tumblr media
“Fair enough. I’ll see you tomorrow, so.” He takes me by the neck and plants a kiss on my cheek.
“Bye.” I say to him, and he waves over his shoulder as he exits through the swinging doors and is swallowed into the dark hallway.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Sighing, I resume my place in front of my laptop, jiggling my finger on the touchpad to wake it, and the screen flicks back to life and displays my bibliography in the exact disappointing state that I left it in. I start moving things around more, checking for spelling mistakes, and then I suddenly remember that I missed a message on my phone earlier, and eager for another chance to procrastinate I dive into my coat pocket for it. I feel my heart expand a little bit when I see a message from Jude.
Rate me?
Tumblr media
Following the message is a mirror selfie of him in his Top Gun costume. He’s doing a very Tom-Cruise-accurate pose, turned to the side with his shoulder to the mirror, his arm lifted to give a thumbs up to the camera, but also to show off the big red white and blue TOMCAT patch that he ironed onto the sleeve. We’ve talked extensively about this costume over recent weeks, trying to figure out the best ways to make it as authentic as possible, not because there’s a prize for the best costume or anything, but because, as Jude explains to me, he has an insatiable need to be the best at everything he does.
“It’s a sickness.” He told me last week. “I absolutely cannot be outdone.”
I grin at the photo, feeling proud, and partly responsible for how well it turned out, seeing as I was the one who searched Ebay for three out of the six patches on that costume, getting a kick out of finding the ones most like those from the film and for the best prices.
Just to tease him, I text back:
6 out of 10. Where are the aviator shades??
Tumblr media
He replies just a moment later with another photograph, this time of him wearing them, doing a silly duck face. It looks like he’s out already, as there’s a handful of people around him out on the city streets, random arms and legs and elbows filling up the edges of the screen.
Happy?
Yep, now that’s a 10 out of 10.
Because it covers more of my face, is it?
Yes 100%, uggo.
Tumblr media
And when he texts back again I forget all about my essay. Thumbs zooming over my phone keyboard, mouth quirked up in a smile as I think of a hundred clever things to say to him, texting, laughing and texting until my laptop screen gives up waiting for me and fades back to black.

Good day everyone, are you aware about what's happening in our world? If yes then that's nice! If no, let's talk about it. But first what is our topic all about ?our topic for today is we're going to talk about the Israel vs Palestine conflict. Come with me!
Tumblr media
So first what is the root of war? but before that let me give you a short background of the war.
BACKGROUND
The Israeli-Palestinian conflict dates back to the end of the nineteenth century. In 1947, the United Nations adopted Resolution 181, known as the Partition Plan, which sought to divide the British Mandate of Palestine into Arab and Jewish states. On May 14, 1948, the State of Israel was created, sparking the first Arab-Israeli War. The war ended in 1949 with Israel’s victory, but 750,000 Palestinians were displaced, and the territory was divided into 3 parts: the State of Israel, the West Bank (of the Jordan River), and the Gaza Strip. In 1917 Arthur bacflour declares that the israel is "national home for jewish people" that resulted to mandate the Palestine under the U.S. government.
The first war was on May 14, 1947. Hundreds of people's died on that war and over a decade the conflict between the Israel and Palestine was not still over yet. On october 9, 2023 the war has began, Israel declared a war to Gaza's Strip that cause of blocking of food, water, fuel and other natural resources. The blockade came response to the beginning of 2023 Israel and Hamas war attacks.
Eversince the two states have a conflict and they're still fighting for their rights until now but why we need to declare a war? why we need to end up like these? The conflict is driven in several factors: religion, border, territory, natural resources, origin of the people (ethnecity) and the latest is the nova music festival. Let's find out.
ORIGIN OF THE PEOPLE.
Palestine
The genetic profile of Palestinians has, for the first time, been studied by using human leukocyte antigen (HLA) gene variability and haplotypes. The comparison with other Mediterranean populations by using neighbor-joining dendrograms and correspondence analyses reveal that Palestinians are genetically very close to Jews and other Middle East populations, including Turks (Anatolians), Lebanese, Egyptians, Armenians, and Iranians. Archaeologic and genetic data support that both Jews and Palestinians came from the ancient Canaanites, who extensively mixed with Egyptians, Mesopotamian, and Anatolian peoples in ancient times.
ISRAEL
Quote from Charles Krauthammer - The Weekly Standard, May 11, 1998
"Israel is the very embodiment of Jewish continuity: It is the only nation on earth that inhabits the same land, bears the same name, speaks the same language, and worships the same God that it did 3,000 years ago. You dig the soil and you find pottery from Davidic times, coins from Bar Kokhba, and 2,000-year-old scrolls written in a script remarkably like the one that today advertises ice cream at the corner candy store."
The people of Israel (also called the "Jewish People") trace their origin to Abraham, who established the belief that there is only one God, the creator of the universe (see Torah). Abraham, his son Yitshak (Isaac), and grandson Jacob (Israel) are referred to as the patriarchs of the Israelites. All three patriarchs lived in the Land of Canaan, which later became known as the Land of Israel. They and their wives are buried in the Ma'arat HaMachpela, the Tomb of the Patriarchs, in Hebron (Genesis Chapter 23).
Thus, Palestinian-Jewish rivalry is based in cultural and religious, but not in genetic, differences. The relatively close relatedness of both Jews and Palestinians to western Mediterranean populations reflects the continuous circum-Mediterranean cultural and gene flow that have occurred in prehistoric and historic times. This flow overtly contradicts the demic diffusion model of western Mediterranean populations substitution by agriculturalists coming from the Middle East in the Mesolithic-Neolithic transition.
Some of these are jews and some of these are arab and there's a lot of genetics that they have including the Egyptian and their other ancestral who attacks the israel in the past they have different cultures, people's that makes them have a different social beliefs too and because of that the conflict begins.
RELIGION
Everyone have a different beliefs base on our different environment where we belongs to. Israel and Palestine have a different religion and culture that they're still preserving.
Israel
Majority of the israeli have a (78%) of jews followed by muslims, their religion called judaism. Judaism is the first and one of the oldest of the great monotheistic faiths.
Jewish people's serving their God by study and prayer and by the observance of the commandments. This faithfulness to the biblical Covenant can understood as the "vocation", "witness" of the Jewish people.
The Land of Israel is central to the history, life, hopes and aspirations of the Jewish people. It is toward Jerusalem that observant Jews turn in prayer, and it is here, in the Land promised in the Bible, that Jewish custom and tradition, as well as the identity of the Jewish people, can be most fully realized.
Palestine
The majority of Palestinians are Muslims. All the residents are required to declare a religion on an identification card issue by israeli government.
Jerusalem is a very holy city held sacred to Palestinians, as well as Jews, Muslims and Christians alike across the world. The city is home to two important Islamic sites: the Al-Aqsa Mosque and the Dome of the Rock. Both sites, located in close proximity, commemorate the place where the Prophet Muhammad is believed to have prayed during his night journey and ascended into heaven (Isra and Miraj).
Both of them have a different culture and beliefs one of those is the holy land which is the Jerusalem. Jerusalem is the capital of the Israel but Palestine believes that they're the one who's living there before the Jews.
TERRITORY
After the world war 1 the Palestine is devided to two regions the West Bank and the Gaza's Strip and the borders between Palestine and Israel is the Jordan in the east, Lebanon and part of the modern Israel to the north.
The two states have a different natural resources, Palestine is rich in oil while Israel is rich in gold and copper.
And one of the cause of conflict is when the Jewish people goes behind the borders the people of the Gaza's Strip executing the people of Israel.
Gaza strip is known for militant group controlled by "hamass" a militant group of people that the U.S. and European Union considered as "terrorist".
Ever since they're still bargaining about the land that they're wanted to have but Israel wins. Palestine believes that they're the first people living in the Israel but the Jews believes that the land of Israel gave it to them by the God they called it as the "Land of the promises" but these Canaan people or the Palestinian people they're not believing to them because they're the one who lives first on that land and it makes the Jewish people become wrath until the battle has begun.
Tumblr media
NATURAL RESOURCES
The two nations have their own natural resources that makes their economy productive Palestine is rich in oil while the Israel is rich in copper, gold, silver and other natural resources if they wanted to have an oil or any essentials they need to surpass the borders of each country that they wanted to go in order to have what they need.
NOVA MUSIC FESTIVAL
Tumblr media
Nova music festival is located near the border of Gaza's Strip. The music festival of the israeli was attended of thousands people in the holiday of Sukkot. This party was supposed to be fun and memorable but there's an unexpected tragedy happen. This festival was intended to help those people of the Gaza's Strip the fund was supposed to be donated to the Gaza's strip since the Gaza's strip doesn't have enough natural resources or any resources including food, medicine, clothes and so on.
At sunrise on Saturday morning, Hamas gunmen launched hundreds of rockets and breached the border between Gaza and Israel, speeding through farmland towards a psychedelic trance music festival that had continued through the night, into the morning.
Assailants who broke through barricades at the border drove down Route 232, cutting a deadly path through rural kibbutzim communities. They blocked off the road to the festival from the north and the south, before swarming the sprawling site on foot, videos show. Then the militants encircled crowds on three sides like a scythe, gunning them down and forcing them to flee over fields to the east.
The Islamist militant group’s terror attack on the rave was not only highly coordinated, but designed for maximum carnage, the scale and scope of which is only just beginning to come to light now, one week on. Heavily armed gunmen choked off almost all avenues of escape, trapping crowds, while simultaneously targeting shelters where people were hiding, killing them en masse, CNN’s analysis of more than 50 videos and interviews with 13 survivors shows.
Thousands of Israelis and foreign nationals had descended on the Negev desert in southern Israel for the music festival, known as Nova, marking the Jewish holiday Sukkot and touted as an event celebrating “unity and love.”
When the booms of rockets rang out overhead around 6:30 a.m., few noticed over the whomping electronic beats. Others, accustomed to rocket fire from Gaza, thought little of it. But not long after organizers stopped the music, and security ushered people towards the exits, the chaos started.
Tumblr media
After that case the president of Israel made a decision to declare a war to defend his country from the terrorist and for the other foreigns that involves to the case.
THE DECLARATION OF WAR
In response to the attack, Israel has declared war and launched “Operation Swords of Iron,” striking suspected Hamas and Islamic Jihad targets in Gaza.
Between October 7 and 12, Israel dropped 6,000 bombs on the impoverished territory – that’s equivalent to the total number of airstrikes on Gaza during the entire 2014 Gaza-Israel conflict, which lasted 50 days.
On october 9, 2023 Israel made their final decision to declare a war to Gaza's strip.
Tumblr media
We don't have to end like these some of them are innocent and they are clueless about what's happening. The war of these two nations becomes intense to the point that the anger that they're carrying on makes them arrogant instead of making a propaganda we should do it in a good communication to avoid the war and to protect your fellow citizens too.
How about you? what is your opinion about our topic? are you a pro Israel? or a pro Palestine?

An Empire Across Three Continents
An Empire Across Three Continents
It was the ancient Roman Empire which was spread across three continents namely Europe, Asia and Africa.
Exploring Historical Sources:
Historians are privileged to have a treasure trove of references that illuminate the stories of the Roman and Iranian Empires.
These sources can be broadly classified into three categories: texts, documents, and material remains.
Texts: The annals of history have been chronicled through a diverse range of textual sources.
Histories penned by contemporaries, often referred to as “annals,” provide a year-by-year narrative of the past.
Letters, speeches, treatises, laws, and other documents offer insights into the political, social, and legal landscapes of their time.
Documents: Documentary sources include inscriptions and documents preserved on papyrus scrolls.
These inscriptions, etched onto stone, provide glimpses into the language and customs of the era.
Papyrus, a reed-like plant grown along the banks of the Nile, served as a prevalent writing material.
Thousands of contracts, accounts, letters, and official documents have survived, revealing the daily life of ancient civilizations.
Material Remains: Archaeological discoveries contribute to our understanding of history through material remains.
These artifacts, unearthed through excavation and field surveys, offer a tangible connection to the past.
From buildings and monuments to pottery, coins, and even aerially photographed landscapes, these remnants provide insights into ancient cultures and societies.
Roman Empire | The Early Empire
The History of the Roman Empire can be divided into two clear-cut phases:
The Early Empire, covering its start until the third century, marks a crucial period when the fundamental principles of the Roman state were put in place.
The Late Empire, which emerged after the third century, represented a significant turning point marked by changing power dynamics and unforeseen challenges.
Difference between the Roman Empire and the Iranian Empire:
A significant contrast between the Roman and Iranian Empires can be found in their cultural makeup.
During this time, the Parthian and Sasanian dynasties, which held authority in Iran, predominantly ruled over the Iranian population.
The Roman Empire presented a rich tapestry of territories and cultures united under a common governmental structure.
In the Roman Empire, linguistic diversity was not just a facet of its identity but a reflection of its inclusive nature.
While many languages resonated within its borders, two languages stood out as the pillars of administration: Latin and Greek.
Latin and Greek were not merely languages of communication; they were the foundation upon which the administrative machinery of the empire was built.
While the upper class of the East expressed themselves fluently in Greek, their Western counterparts favored Latin.
A singular thread, however, bound all citizens – allegiance to a single emperor, transcending linguistic and geographical boundaries.
Latin and Greek were the administrative languages, creating a bridge between the diverse linguistic regions.

Great Basin: aztec tanoan,  "Desert Archaic" or more simply "The Desert Culture" refers to the culture of the Great Basin tribes. This culture is characterized by the need for mobility to take advantage of seasonally available food supplies. The use of pottery was rare due to its weight, but intricate baskets were woven for containing water, cooking food, winnowing grass seeds and storage—including the storage of pine nuts, a Paiute-Shoshone staple. Heavy items such as metates would be cached rather than carried from foraging area to foraging area. Agriculture was not practiced within the Great Basin itself, although it was practiced in adjacent areas (modern agriculture in the Great Basin requires either large mountain reservoirs or deep artesian wells). Likewise, the Great Basin tribes had no permanent settlements, although winter villages might be revisited winter after winter by the same group of families. In the summer, the largest group was usually the nuclear family due to the low density of food supplies.

The most popular handicrafts of Iran
The most popular handicrafts of Iran
Tumblr media
dorontash handicrafts magazine
Wherever you go in Iran, you can see male and female artists who  produce examples of the best and most popular handicrafts of Iran with their heart and soul. The diversity of these handicrafts is so high that it is not possible to introduce all of them completely, and therefore we have to name examples from each province of the country that are known as the most popular handicrafts of Iran.
1.  Metal crafts
Among the metal handicrafts of Iran, we can point to various items, the most famous of which are brushwork,  engraving on metal , and mesh work. In other words, the shaping and decoration of metals to make decorative and practical objects by means of different tools and methods in a volumetric and flat form is called the art of metalworking.
The diversity of traditional metal works and objects is caused by the three factors that make up handicrafts, namely, the type of use, appearance and method of making them.
We can call this art a metal hand art, which in the past was generally done on silver, copper and gold dishes. Painting is one of the practical and decorative handicrafts in Iranian handicrafts, during which various arts are performed on a container made of different metals.
These days, we can generally see the art of writing on metals such as copper and bronze. The art of calligraphy has a very long and strong history in Iran. This art was so popular and valuable that the artists themselves made a container or a device on which they wanted to paint.
2.  Pottery handicrafts | The most popular handicrafts in Iran
These characteristics and the brilliant record of pottery art in Iran show that we can have a significant activity in this field and by developing this industry in different parts of Iran, we can build a better country in many ways.
Currently, the “Laljin” area in Hamedan is one of the areas known as pottery in Iran, and many workshops have been operating since the past. Of course, other cities such as Meibod Yazd, Mand Gonabad, Mazandaran, Semnan, Gilan, Golpurkan (Baluchistan) and… are also active in this field.
3. Wooden crafts
Carving (traditional wooden sizes):
Wood carving is one of the branches of wood handicrafts, in which the carver designs the general anatomy of the human body, birds and animals in different situations, and transfers various designs to the wood using suitable tools and wood. He sculpts and leaves behind magnificent historical works.
Maraq: One of the most beautiful arts and delicate works on wood is Maraq. Beautiful wooden designs are created through cutting with a needle, which is then oiled to make it shiny.
Khatam Kari: Khatam is the art of decorating the surface of objects with small triangles, the various designs of which have always been regular geometric shapes.
Carving: Carving  is one of the arts and handicrafts of wood, which depicts patterns and designs in a prominent form and is obtained from carving on wood.
Lattice work with wood: One of the practical handicrafts is called ((wood lattice)). Lattice work is often associated with other arts related to wood (especially inlay). To implement mesh work, after implementing the desired design on the wood, the negative parts of the design are removed with the help of a tool such as a hacksaw and a hacksaw, so that the original design remains in the form of a mesh.
Sash:  It is a type of wooden window that has various designs and dimensions and includes colored glass, which is now less manufactured and is produced only for beauty and decor and on a smaller scale than before.
Fuel on wood: In the art of fuel on wood, different molds are made of steel or brass, which have the desired traditional motifs. By heating these molds on fire and pressing it on wood and transferring the effect of this burn, beautiful works of art are created.
4. Handicrafts of mat weaving
Along with countries like Japan, Korea and Mexico, Iran is one of the sixteen mat producing countries. The historical background of these products in Iran shows that the use of mats by ancient Iranians was not limited to underlays, and they also used mats to make dishes. Even today, unlike the main use of mats, i.e. mats, wicker containers are more popular among handicraft enthusiasts.
5. Leather crafts The most popular handicrafts of Iran
The traditional leather embroidery profession  (Saraji)  is  one of hundreds  of Iranian handicrafts . This art is an original art from the  Kermanshah region  , which   has recently been registered in the national register .
It should be noted that  the leather industry and the fur industry  are different and this difference is the importance of  the raw materials  used in each of them. The raw materials used in the leather industry are the by-products  of the meat industry  , and the meat is more valuable than the skin, but the raw materials   used in the fur industry are more valuable than the meat. Meat is considered as a side product. There are several ways that the result of them is that the skin of the animal turns into a flexible and strong material called leather. Leather has various uses in making  clothes  such as  pants, ties, gloves, coats, jackets and shoes and accessories such as bags and key chains  .

For the texture of all three models, they use thread or mat for warp and weft and create a very interesting texture with knots and a kind of interweaving. Next, we will examine the types of texture. Stay with us.
8. Enamelware
In enameling, natural and chemical elements are combined with the powder of precious stones such as gold, copper, tin, iron, etc., and produce enamel color. Any surface that we want to enamel on is first glazed, and then, according to enamellers, seven colors are used on the surface, which is the same as the enamel decoration stage.

Today, in some special works, inlay is used to show as much as possible. Due to the relatively reasonable price of inlay, this Iranian art can be found in many Iranian homes, and of course, apart from many applications in decorative and necessary accessories such as: page Chess pieces, jewelry boxes, chocolate containers are also widely used and welcomed outside homes.

In Europe, turquoise was called “Turquoise Stone”, which means Turkish stone, and the reason for this name was that Iranian turquoise was exported to Europe by Turkic speakers. In Italy, smooth blue turquoise, which is known as ” blue gem “, is used as an expensive jewel, and in the necklace of the Queen of Egypt, turquoise obtained from the Sinai Peninsula (about 4000 years ago) was used. 11. Carpet weaving

The leather embroidery industry has been passed down from our ancestors to today’s men and women from the past, and today Khorasan Razavi (Shandiz region) is one of the main production centers of this art.
14. Traditional clothing handicrafts
15. Woven crafts
Knitting handicrafts are one of the most famous and popular handicrafts in Iran, which are as old as the history of several thousand years of Iran. The main material of these handicrafts is yarn. In these handicrafts, various products are woven. Weaving handicrafts are done both by hand and by machine. These industries have a long history, but since their main material is yarn, they have disappeared over time, and the exact date of their origin cannot be estimated.
16. Kari tapestry
17. Writing
18. Embroidery
The art of penmanship caused a huge change in the Achaemenid regime. In fact, it can be said that this art was seen more than before.
Some of the Aryan calligraphy works were lost during the invasion of Alexander and the Mongols. Although this art is not only related to Iranians and the Romans and Greeks also benefited from this art, calligraphy in Iran has been and is more prosperous.
19. Copper work
Coppersmithing is one of the most popular handicrafts of Iran, very old in the country. Copper objects and containers have been observed in various museums for a long time. When the name of Mes is spoken, the names of cities such as Zanjan, Qazvin and Isfahan also come to mind.
The production of all kinds of copper utensils and consumables, which today is considered one of the handicrafts of Zanjan and Isfahan, has gained many fans again for nearly a decade. Copper dishes have had a prominent presence in Iranian kitchens since the past. Copper sunbed and basin are among the oldest copper items in Iranian homes. Over time, however, things changed. Switching to teflon and cast iron removed copper from the competition for a while.
For several years now, the benefits of using copper have been talked about a lot. In addition, the producers of this group of handicrafts have made many changes in their products. Copper tools and utensils became more diverse and practical day by day. Due to the re-acceptance of copper dishes, not only in Iran but also in other countries, this industry has taken on a new life.

There were so many great artists showing work at the group of galleries in the Kress Building in Ybor City, this post needed to be split in two. For part one, on Tempus Projects’ three spaces, head here.
Quaid Gallery is an artist cooperative gallery founded by a group of Tampa artists and is focused on contemporary artists creating mixed media exhibitions. In addition to monthly curatorial projects, they are planning to host events which will include readings, drawing nights and film screenings. Liquid Snow is their current exhibition and included the artwork pictured above by Jessi Sherbet, Mia Makes It, and Mike Cannata.
Parachute Gallery is showing One and Only · يكتا , which centers around the project Green Wedding by Fort Myers, Florida-based Iranian artist, Leila Mesdaghi.
From the website’s description of the project-
In late 2021, Mesdaghi traveled to her childhood home in Tehran, Iran, to throw herself a wedding, sans partner. She writes, “As a child I had dreams about getting married and having a wedding in our house. An Iranian wedding is a heavily glamorized and festive event where the bride is treated like a princess and guests come celebrate and admire her with gold and jewelry. I decided to have a wedding for myself. I made my dress at a high-end fashion boutique, bought a beautiful gold ring with my dad’s money, hired Maryam Saeedpoor (a well-known photographer,) a hair stylist, played Persian wedding music, and had a few friends plus my aunt and uncle as my guests.”
Documentation of the ceremony—a series of six limited-edition portraits by Saeedpoor and a collaborative video piece with director Khashayar Khalilkhani and vocalist Mahboubeh Golzari, reciting a poem by Iranian poet Houshang Ebtehaj about love and longing—beautifully articulates the complex emotions behind the project.
The photos and dress are seen in the image below, along with the work of six regional and national artists whose work ties into this project thematically. These artists are Sharareh Allahyari, Jordan Blankenship, Golbanou Moghaddas, Pottery Boys – Glenn Woods and Keith Herbrand, and Rebecca Stevens.

For more of Carey's work and to see what's next for the gallery, check out her Instagram. She also founded Creatives Exchange, a collective of professional women artists in Tampa.
Finally, Department of Contemporary Art Tampa, FL, once a week for three weeks is hosting a mystery local artist. During the event the artist of the evening was revealed as Selena Ferrer. This week on 12/15/22, the last artist will be revealed. Also check out the gallery's Instagram for updates.

Meymand is an ancient village which is located near Shahr-e Babak city in Kerman Province, Iran. Meymand is believed to be a primary human residence in the Iranian Plateau, dating back to 12,000 years ago. Many of the residents live in the 350 hand-dug houses amid the rocks, some of which have been inhabited for as long as 3,000 years. Stone engravings nearly 10,000 years old are found around the village, and deposits of pottery nearly 6,000 years old attest to the long history of settlement at the village site.
