You ever think Dick goes around to the Dick's Sporting Goods stores, dressed as an employee and everything, pretending to be like some higher-up visiting locations for inspections just to see how long he can get away with it. Like, how are you gonna tell someone named Dick to get out of Dick's store? The people love him. They love going, "Oh, your name's Dick? Haha, like the store! It's like you were made for a job here—or, haha, named."
He probably does this outside of Gotham before he's like, it's been five years, time to go visit, and then the Gotham news tabloids and channels are exploding with, "Dick Grayson, Son of Billionaire and Philaptoyhch Bruce Wayne, Invading Dick's Sporting Goods Across the East Coast" and "Dick's Sporting Goods' Surprising Employee the First Son of Billionare and Philadelphia Bruce Wayne, Dick Grayson" and, "Beloved Dickie Grayson is a Dick's Sporting Goods Employee," and so on and so on.

9.10.17
Today I tried something different. I woke up with no alarm (sundays are the only work day in which i have this luxury), rolled around in bed with a purring kitten, got up and made some cereal and a protein shake thing and i had breakfast silently and alone. Every now and then I try to take some time to be a little more... mindful? To slow down and listen to just the sounds of the house. In my case thats mostly any given set of cats scampering around or wrestling each other. Like stuffed animals fighting because they mostly don’t make sounds just rustles. Wifey had to be at work at 930 and I’m not in until 2 so this morning aided perfectly to slowness.
I want to commit to this tumblr as a journal of sorts- I’m just bad at most commitments. We will see how this goes. I’m just happy I remembered the login.
This is day whatever of the veggie transfer. I kinda wish I kept better track of progress thus far. But to be fair we still haven’t completely made the swap. What happens when two foodies decide to go vegan? Well here is the process so far.
First: we decided it would be wasteful to not use the meat/animal products in the house. We already had to buy milk so we just opted for almond milk instead of cows milk. We both work for Mama Siren so we have the same option of almond or soy (or coconut but ew) at work. So YAY successful transition there. We started eating mostly meat free during the day and reserving dinners for the meat entrees to deplete our current stock. We’ve consumed everything on hand minus a pack of hotdogs which I’ll likely give to my brother, a few cans of chef boy-r-dee, and maybe 4-5 cans of tuna which may become cat snacks.
Second: we thought of the upcoming wedding and honeymoon. Maybe here I should add that we decided to make this switch because of health reasons. It makes sense that we don’t need meat or animal milk but we have never been pushed to veganism for other reasons before. The soon-to-be wifey is kinda hard programmed that dinner comes with a meat and everything surrounding it. Anyway the wedding is going to be pot luck style and with most of our friends being carnivorous we didn’t want to try to force the entire guest list to play vegan for the day. We are also traveling to several states for our honeymoon and food is kinda our thing. The thought of going to Philly for the first time without getting a philly cheese-steak or going to NY without risking it on street vendor hotdogs- unheard of. So the decision at this point was- we will cut back where we can now and work on making these changes but wait until after these upcoming events to take it more seriously.
Stage Three: shopping adventure at whole foods. We walked away with fruits, some almonds, some ingredients for  specific dinners we were planning and some fake meat products. something to replace deli meats (not that we ate a lot of them but work offers zero vegan options and only two vegetarian options. while these are great and all eating them every day will quickly get old) and something to replace chicken. 50 ish dollars later and we are set up for a week or so of new things. We will see how they fair.
Stage four is I guess where we are now- phoney bologna is actually the bomb. price and quantity are eh. We found a tofurky brand on sale for 2.99 a pack (like a buck off or something) and I’ve made two sammies so far? with enough for at least 2-3 more. Now these sammies are rather thin and have a vegan cheese (which holy hell is expensive). Maybe with some lettuce or pickles or something to pump it up a notch it’ll be slightly more filling and therefor the pack will last longer. We haven’t tried the fake chicken yet but we have made a mushroom asparagus alfredo (not vegan but veggie. needed vegan butter and a vegan cheese to fully count) it was bomb.com and we were incredibly full off of probably half of what we would normally eat. Last night we tried a portobello potroast. It did not LOOK great. the shrooms mixed with red wine and a veggie stock made this lovely- blackish- broth stuff. At first taste it was just OKAY. Nothing to write home about. After some smushing of potatoes to help thicken up the broth and the addition of soy sauce and tereyaki it was way better and we both went back for seconds. It was vegan until we decided it needed some buttered bread for dipping (still need to get vegan butter) 10/10 will try again with minor adjustments.
Changes so far: She has lost weight- enough to make her work shorts a little loosey goosey. This could be the change from a rather sedentary lifestyle to being back at work or it could be the food. or both. I am not sure if I’ve lost any weight. But I’ve felt pretty good. I don’t really notice a huge surge of energy or anything like that. I guess what I notice more now is when we break to laziness and eat something easy like a chicken sammich from *insert fast food chain here* we feel like shit. Our bodies react poorly to meat in general just after a few weeks of cutting way back/not eating meat at all. We stay fuller longer it seems and its a different kind of full. Like we aren’t miserable just content.
Looking ahead: I’ll hopefully blog more regularly about this experience and maybe some other things. I’m curious to see how our planned “cheat days” with the honeymoon will make us feel. (I will be getting steak at Delmonico’s in october. If its going to be my last steak at least I can say it was an amazing one) and I’m excited to see what other recipes we find, try, and modify for this new lifestyle. The next challenge after we master veganism will be to reduce our waste. This will be much harder for us I think because the world isn’t set up to be very waste conscious. I’ll be seeking advice from those who have this down when the time comes for us.
