the worst part is crowley cannot fight that last fight for aziraphale. aziraphale has to realise himself that heaven has an institutional problem that can’t be fixed without dismantling the whole thing… and he won’t do that without it hitting him on the head and without having tried first because he believes so much in the inherent good of the system which just isn't there!!!

i think if it had gone any other way, if aziraphale hadn't accepted the position he would always doubt his decision and feel as if he should've at least tried. and isn't he the lesser evil anyways? if he didn't say yes, who would? michael?

there's of course also all this about aziraphale and crowley not understanding each other's confessions and wants and needs, but i also think aziraphale's very strong sense of righteousness had a lot to say about his choice. where crowley is already disillusioned, aziraphale still wishes to believe no matter the amount of cracks in the illusion, beacause it's the right thing to do, right? he can fix it! he has to, because what is the alternative?

i think that for aziraphale it doesn't feel like there exists any alternative at all, and that any alternative must be bad because this system has to be good. if it isn't good, he's been fighting the wrong fight for six thousand years.
