Young fern growing from the side of a wall made of clay and alternating layers of recyled Japanese roof tiles near the south gate of the Hakone Checkpoint. Such walls (sotobei 外塀) were typically used to enclose, gardens, tea house, and aristocratic homes. Today, they can still be found around Buddhist temples and throughout Kyoto. ISO 800 at ƒ/7.1 for 1/500 sec.
