is brother of mine's monologue at the end of 'the family of blood his interpretation of what happened? or...
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
is he merely telling the audience what the doctor told him? the last family member to be dealt with....
"he never raised his voice. that was the worst thing. the fury of the time lord. and then we discovered why. why this doctor, who had fought with gods and demons, why he'd run away from us and hidden. he was being kind."
**************
"where are the rest? where is my family?"
i wrapped your father in unbreakable chains, forged in the heart of a dwarf star."
"mother?"
"i tricked her into the event horizon of a collapsing galaxy to be imprisoned there forever. i still visit your little sister once a year every year. i trapped her in a mirror. every. mirror. there she is, can't you see? if ever anyone looks at their reflection and see something move behind them, just for a second, that will be her. always her."
i wonder if one day he might forgive her.
"what will you do to me? why can't i move?"
"i've suspended you in time. i'm going to put you to work standing over the fields of england, as their protector."
"why are you doing this? why not just kill us?"
"you wanted to live forever, so i'll make sure that you do."

One thing that's interesting to note about Human Nature/Family of Blood is that it challenges the notion that everything was better in the old days. That story shows that 1910's England was in fact not a pleasant place to live in at all. John Smith, Joan Redfern, Mr Rocastle, Baines and Hutchinson are all embodiments of everything that was wrong with society in that era, as all four of them were complete arseholes! This is one of the story's strengths, as seeing those characters makes you think about just how bad we were as a society in those days and how we need to take care not to slip back into those bad ways.

cris watches dr. who: s03e08 - "Human Nature"
Tumblr media
"Have you enjoyed it, Doctor? Being human? Has it taught you wonderful things? Has it made you better? Richer? Wiser? Then let's see you answer this: Which one of them do you want us to kill? Maid, or matron? Your friend, or your lover? Your choice!"
In media res! Gotta be one of my favorite tropes, makes you feel so in the middle of everything
Stolen vortex manipulator? What?! Maybe try looking next to your flux capacitator
Martha in a period appropriate outfit?! She has done away with the leather jacket! My gosh, they must really be in it now
John Smith is always his alias? Is that why it crops up everywhere in human history
Ugh, racist boarding school boys
But Martha has all her knowledge, no? Hmmmmmm
Hey! It's Jojen Reed/the drummer kid from Love Actually/that cowboy chess player from the Queen's Gambit. Is he, like, an unaging elf?
Oh hey, Baines (who is later the Son of Mine) is also from Game of Thrones! He is Viserys! That explains why his eyes are so intense yet kind of hot
Ah poor Jeremy Baines. Too dumb yet hot to survive. But, come on, you dumb school kid: when you can't see that invisible space Ship, you run!
Oh no! Jojen, don't touch that! Doesn't anyone here -- except Martha -- have basic survival skills?
Damn: ex-Jeremy Baines is really rocking that serial killer look
Creepy scarecrows!
Martha is really good at spotting the thread. I'd do escape rooms with her
And at the end, the Dr is presented with the traditional Catwoman/Robin choice! Are you saving the sidekick or the girlfriend? Oof, Martha hates being the Robin in that scenario
6 out of 8 Tardes. Did not expect this to be a double whammy, but excited to see where this goes

WHO OR WHAT IS JEREMY?
A list by the Carry On Discord Server.
the fox guy from AWTWB (no, he was Jeremey)
a random guy name to let Baz know Simon's into dudes, because he thought it would be too obvious to get a tattoo that says “I’m queer just FYI”
Simon's ex boyfriend
Baz's ex boyfriend
Simon's pet goat
the monkey tattoo
a homage to @stardustasincocaine's husband
Baz's name in this AU because Tyrannus Basilton was too weird
Lamb's fake identity (and it's actually Lamb on the cover, not Simon)
Lamb's actual first name
one of the NowNext vampires
Simon's beloved childhood pet
a fuck you to someone Simon hates whose name is Jeremy
a goat who frequently fucks shit up and causes Problems™️ and Simon flips it off regularly and misses it dearly
the person on the cover, and he tattooed his name on his finger so he doesn't forget it
Simon’s people eating plant
the password Simon always uses, named after the IT guy who always yelled at Simon about not having secure enough passwords
Simon's beloved childhood plushie
just a name Simon likes
Simon's bro, who is a fledgling tattoo artist and Simon let him just do whatever
Shepard's middle name
Shepard's first name but he lost it to a fairy and had to change it
a stray dog Simon took care of while in care homes
Baz's pet rat, Mordelia named it
Baz's dog (the one he killed)
the name he (Baz? Simon? Unclear) gave to the bird outside his window who woke him up at ass o'clock every morning
Simon's middle name, the Mage chose it
a celebrity crush
Simon's fake name he used to get tattoos when he was younger than he should
Simon and Baz's kid
a mnemonic device
the container of mystery leftovers from freshman year that has gained sentience in the back of the fridge
it's actually “Je Remy” because Simon loves Ratatouille
Jeremy Baines from Doctor Who
a reminder of when Simon got burned by the Jeremy Renner app
Tyrannus or Basilton was too long to tattoo so Simon's like I dunno... Jeremy
the fake name Baz gave Simon because they have rival flower businesses and he didn’t want Simon to know his true identity, a la Chaz; supported by the fact that Jaz is a variant of Jeremy
“Choose a name similar to yours.”
Baz: “I'm, uh, Jaz Bitch.”
Simon gets the tattoo and goes to Baz and Baz is like, “Who the fuck is Jeremy?”
“You.”
“Actually, it's short for Jerusalem,” because Baz's family absolutely would name a kid Jerusalem.
the head of the latest cult Simon has joined; every tattoo is in remembrance of a cult he escaped: he keeps saying “they remind me that I won't do THAT again” but...
the Mage's real name: he never told his real name to anyone so they just started calling him David
Niall's real name
Dev's middle name
Niall's surname
Simon just flips a lot of people the bird so he decided to name his middle finger and then he had the name tattooed on it.
Simon: “I’d like to introduce you to Jeremy.”
Anyone else: “Who tf is Jeremy?”
Simon: 🖕
drunk Simon when he's a teen in care:
Kid: “What tattoo do you want?”
S: “... Jeremy.”
Kid: “What?”
S: “You heard me.”
Simon's step dad
Simon's baby brother
Simon's evil twin
the Humdrum
@rainbowrowell's OC

GODZILLA X KONG: THE NEW EMPIRE (2024)
Starring Rebecca Hall, Brian Tyree Henry, Dan Stevens, Kaylee Hottle, Alex Ferns, Fala Chen, Rachel House, Ron Smyck, Chantelle Jamieson, Greg Hatton, Kevin Copeland, Tess Dobré, Tim Carroll, Anthony Brandon Wong, Sophia Emberson-Bain, Chika Ikogwe, Vincent B. Gorce, Yeye Zhou, Jamaliah Othman and Nick Lawler.
Screenplay by Terry Rossio and Simon Barrett and Jeremy Slater.
Directed by Adam Wingard.
Distributed by Warner Bros. Pictures. 115 minutes. Rated PG-13.
Is it possible for a movie to be dumber than a bag of rocks and still pretty fun? Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire seems to prove that it is indeed possible. The adult in me recognizes that this film is intellectually kind of ridiculous, but damned if it doesn’t give a sense of Saturday afternoon Creature Feature nostalgia that makes you feel like a kid while watching it.
The story makes little to no sense. The people in the background are one-dimensional – although Dan Stevens and Brian Tyree Henry add some needed comic relief. Honestly, they could have probably cut out all of the human characters and the movie would not lose all that much.
Still, I kind of enjoyed myself during Godzilla x Kong. Go figure.
The two “titans” in the title are separate through most of the film, until the slam-bang last section. In fact, they are in different dimensions.
Godzilla is “protecting” Earth from marauding monsters (although he did a whole lot of damage even when “protecting”). Then at night he sleeps in the Roman Coliseum as if it is a giant doggie bed. (I told you there was a lot of stupidity going on here.)
Kong, in the meantime, has been banished to “Hollow Earth,” an entirely different world which seems to be somewhere in the Earth’s core, like something out of Land of the Lost. He is the only giant gorilla in this new world – until he isn’t, when he runs across an evil band of angry, giant monkeys (and one annoyingly cutesy Little Kong). He is returned to the Earth’s surface when Kong has a toothache. (Yes, really, a toothache…)
Then Kong must summon Godzilla (and an extended cameo by Mothra) to fight off the evil giant gorillas and their Godzilla-like giant-lizard co-hort who have escaped to the surface. However, instead of breathing fire like Godzilla, this baddy lizard breathes ice. Kong is even outfitted with a superpowered robot glove… because… why not?
Cut to multiple scenes of giant monsters tossing each other all over Rio De Janeiro, causing maximum damage in name of Earth safety.
Periodically the film will suddenly blast some retro pop hits – like Badfinger’s “Day After Day” and Kiss’ “I Was Made For Loving You” – without explaining how exactly those songs were being played in Hollow Earth. I’m not complaining, though, those songs were some of the better parts of the film.
It’s like one of the old films, however with much better special effects and with the human characters’ lip movements actually matching their dialogue when they speak.

China has a new foreign relations law
China has a new foreign relations law
For foreign businesses in China, geopolitics hold more sway than new Chinese laws, according to analysts. To get more news about Legal assistance for foreign businesses in Shanghai, you can citynewsservice.cn official website.
National security is a growing priority for the country. Two new laws, one on espionage and the other on foreign relations, took effect July 1. They contain catch-all phrases such as “state secrets” that are open to interpretation by local and central authorities.
Adding to the worries of those considering doing business in China is news earlier this year of three raids on international consulting firms with little public explanation.
In strictly legal terms, however, the legislative changes themselves don’t increase the risk for foreign businesses in China, said Jeremy Daum, senior fellow at Yale Law School’s Paul Tsai China Center.
Rather, he said, “the current international relations climate and competing political pressures may be making some businesses re-evaluate their cost-benefit analysis in accepting the risks of doing business in China.” U.S.-China relations have deteriorated over the last several years, after decades of increased engagement.
High-level dialogue beyond the presidential level has only resumed partially this year with U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken’s visit to Beijing, among others.
“The current environment lends itself to more occasions where a regulator or someone in the government in China may choose to take action that is non-transparent. That creates a risk for U.S. business,” said Michael House, partner at Perkins Coie and based out of offices in Beijing and Washington, D.C.
“And when there is no real opportunity for the two governments to talk about the reason for that action or at the government level try to get some better read on what’s motivated those kinds of actions, that becomes then detrimental for U.S. business when that kind of opportunity doesn’t exist,” House said.
When it comes to industries, he pointed out, advanced technology and its links to the military are a concern to the U.S. and China, while other sectors bear less risk.
The new laws The new Espionage Law expands the “acts of espionage” definition to include “seeking to align with an espionage organization” and attempts to illegally obtain data related to national security, according to an English-language translation on China Law Translate, a website Daum founded.
The law also calls on “all levels” of government in China to educate and manage related security precautions, according to the translation.
The website’s translation of the Foreign Relations Law notes that foreign organizations in China “must not endanger China’s national security, harm the societal public interest, or undermine societal public order.”
Corporate disconnect The uncertainty lies in implementation. News of the laws came as reports of Chinese probes into foreign firms made headlines from March to May.
Chinese authorities raided the office of U.S. corporate due diligence firm Mintz Group in Beijing, visited U.S. consultancy Bain & Company’s office in Shanghai and investigated international consulting firm Capvision Partners, according to Reuters.
It’s not clear how extensive the investigations were, or what exactly prompted the probes despite a general link to national security. No other reports of similar raids at major foreign companies have since emerged.
