Antena 3 presented this Tuesday, October 10, in the first edition of the South Festival, Beguinas, a series inspired by the beguinages, communities of women who, since the 13th century, defended an alternative way of life independent of marriage and Church. The new fiction bet will be available sooner for Atresplayer premium users.

Beguinas, which has ten 50-minute episodes, is produced by Atresmedia TV in collaboration with Buendía Estudios. The Beguines dedicated themselves to contemplation, but also to action, through crafts, teaching, or caring for the sick, which provided benefits to society while allowing them to be. This new series takes as reference the history of these women, which has remained hidden throughout the centuries.

The actors Amaia Aberasturi and Yon González star in the fiction. Beguinas is a production of Atresmedia TV in collaboration with Buendía Estudios. Montse García, Sonia Martínez and Amparo Miralles are the executive producers of this fiction, which will be directed by Rómulo Aguillaume and Claudia Pinto. Synopsis

Segovia, 1559. Lucía de Avellaneda celebrates her engagement party with the Marquis of Peñarrosa, a nobleman chosen by her brother. This marriage promises to reinforce the financial and social status of the family, but, in the middle of the celebration, the fiancée receives an unexpected letter from a woman who claims to be her mother and who claims her on her deathbed.

Lucía shows up at the beguinage, where her mother has summoned her. In this place she lives with other women independently and outside the Church. The young woman opens up to a new world that will make her question everything she has known until now. And, furthermore, he will know love through a pure and uncontrollable, but forbidden, passion. He will risk everything for Telmo, a Jewish man who must hide his beliefs and his past.

Main cast and characters

Lucía de Avellaneda (Amaia Aberasturi) Intelligent, curious and combative. Educated and innocent, until her mother's call disrupts her life. In the beguinage she discovers an environment of sorority and critical thinking that revolutionizes her idea of ​​the world and breaks down the walls that her status as a Christian noble woman has imposed on her. When she meets Telmo she feels for the first time an attraction that she has never experienced, but his commitment and loyalty will stop her impulses, determined to fight for what really matters to her.

Telmo Medina (Yon González): Telmo is an attractive, lucid and mysterious young man who hides his Jewish origins. He works in a bakery and supplies the beguinage with what it needs from outside. He doesn't want problems, but he doesn't avoid them either. Loyal, sincere and honest, he cannot help but risk everything for a Christian noble woman.

Marie Anne (Beatriz Segura) Beguine and the successor of The Great Lady, she is wise, strong and enigmatic. Its mission is to protect the beguinage from certain ecclesiastical authorities who fear its independence. Guiding Lucía through the truth, she will help her connect with her mother's spirit and live in the beguinage with other women who, like her, long for a freedom that they cannot find outside. In her past, she loved intensely and had to overcome a traumatic breakup, but that passion is unleashed again, although this time she does not want to repress herself despite the danger of remaining in love with a clandestine and sinful love.

Sibila García (Melani Olivares): A distrustful, surviving and sensitive woman, who grew up in misery and prostitution. Pregnant, she decided to escape and found her place in the beguinage. Her biggest concern is her daughter and, even though she reproaches her for it, she will do everything possible to try to protect her. The succession of Lucrecia is disputed and she competes with Marie Anne for the position of Great Lady.

Guiomar Ruy (Ella Kweku): Nigua, an Antillean slave, was sold to a doctor from Seville who gave her her new name and educated her when he noticed the maid's innate curiosity. She learned the trade of midwife from her mother and cultivated her interest in the human body and botany. She obtained his letter of freedom and decided to move to the beguinage of Valladolid where he can develop his concerns and care for the sick. She has judgment, instinct and knowledge. Beatriz García (Lucía Caraballo): Daughter of Sibila and one of the youngest of the beguinage. Innocent, happy and lively. Her freedom of thought and work contrasts with that of Lucía. She has a relationship with her mother that has ups and downs, but the love they have for each other is above all. Juana Aranda (Silma López): Daughter of Sancho, the owner of the workshop, and sister of Lebrín. She enjoys an independence that was uncommon at that time. She has chosen to enter the beguinage to avoid a bad marriage or ending up dependent on his brother. Intelligent, prudent and thorough. She is in love with Telmo, but wants to be reciprocated. Lebrín Aranda (Jonás Berami): Close friend of Telmo, son of Sancho, the owner of the bakery and the only brother of Juana, the beguine. Rogue, generous and lively, he knows how to live avoiding laws, rules and sins. He enjoys carnal pleasures and lets himself be carried away by Jimena's lust until he discovers her danger and her evil ways. He will use his best resources to try to save the Beguines from the Inquisition.

Rodrigo de Guzmán, Marquis of Peñarrosa (Javier Beltrán): He is Lucía's fiancé. Castilian nobleman, of ancient ancestry and fortune. El Specialized-Fundación Alberto Contador repite triunfo en Triana de la mano de Cristian Torres, pero cede la victoria en la general al granadino del Bicicletas Rodríguez FRANCISCO JAVIER CANTERO SE DESQUITA PARA CONQUISTAR LA X CHALLENGE VUELTA A SEVILLA 26.07.2015. El granadino Francisco Javier Cantero (Bicicletas Rodríguez-Extremadura) se ha proclamado este mediodía vencedor de la X Challenge Vuelta a la Provincia de Sevilla para corredores élite y sub 23, organizada por el Club Deportivo Ciclista Antonio Gómez del Moral, tras la disputa de la segunda etapa, una XVI Clásica Velá de Triana en la que el Specialized-Fundación Alberto Contador ha vuelto a llevarse el triunfo parcial por medio del albaceteño Cristian Torres, si bien su compañero Juan Camacho no ha podido retener el liderato que conquistara el sábado en Dos Hermanas. Cantero ha entrado sexto en la meta de la Plaza del Altozano, tres puestos por delante de su rival, lo que le ha valido para hacerse con la victoria final y desquitarse así de la segunda plaza que logró tanto el año pasado en la ronda como el sábado en la prueba nazarena. La clásica trianera ha resultado muy nerviosa desde el arranque, ya que nada más darse la salida se ascendía al primer alto puntuable, el de Castilleja de Guzmán. Allí, el primero ha sido el exprofesional jiennense José Luis Carrasco, que mediada la etapa repetiría en Las Doblas para anotarse el gran premio de la montaña. Los corredores del Mutua Levante-València Terra i Mar eran los más activos en las fugas, primero con el cordobés Miguel Muñoz y luego con el alicantino Julio A. Amores. Sin embargo, el primer movimiento consistente lo protagonizaría el dúo formado por otro cordobés, José Luis Cobo (Andalucía), y el manchego Pedro Merino (Supermercados Froiz), quienes llegaron a acumular 50” de renta sobre el pelotón hacia el kilómetro 40. Tras el reagrupamiento y el paso por Las Doblas y Sanlúcar la Mayor saltó un octeto que, liderado por Bicicletas Rodríguez y Seguros Bilbao, llegó a disponer de un minuto de ventaja. Por detrás, el Specialized del líder se encargaba de controlar y volvía a lograr neutralizar la escapada ya a la entrada de Sevilla, pero el conjunto extremeño no se conformaba y lanzaba un nuevo órdago de la mano de Cantero y su compañero Juan José Tamayo, quienes rodaron unos minutos por delante hasta ser capturados por el pelotón, que enfilaba así la Ronda de Triana dispuesto a disputar un ‘sprint’ masivo con un centenar de corredores. En la recta adoquinada y luego enlosada de San Jacinto, el Specialized volvía a llevarse el gato al agua con Cristian Torres, más rápido que el argentino Jorge Martín Montenegro y que el gallego Daniel López (Caja Rural), pero su compañero Camacho entraba noveno y no podía rematar la exhibición del conjunto que apadrina el campeón de Pinto ni reeditar la victoria de López-Cózar en 2014. El ciclista de Armilla Francisco Javier Cantero se lo impedía y premiaba así el esfuerzo de su equipo, el Bicicletas Rodríguez-Extremadura, que ya se había llevado la ronda hispalense en 2013 por medio de Daniel Sánchez Cidoncha. DECLARACIONES Cantero: “Este triunfo me sabe a gloria” Francisco Javier Cantero (Bicicletas Rodríguez-Extremadura) ha sido el brillante vencedor de la X Challenge Vuelta a Sevilla, y estaba en la meta lógicamente radiante de felicidad: “Este triunfo me sabe a gloria después de varios años en los que estuve casi a punto de ganar (el año pasado fue 2º y antes 7º en 2010, 8º en 2012 y 14º en 2011). Ya tenía ganas de conseguirlo”, recalcaba el ciclista granadino. Natural de Armilla, Cantero se desquitaba así del segundo puesto del sábado en Dos Hermanas: “Ayer lo probé a falta de diez kilómetros, pero Camacho me alcanzó y en la llegada me pilló cansado, me arrancó de lejos y me ganó por poco. Hoy teníamos la baza de que yo era más rápido sobre el papel, pese a que la llegada era difícil por el adoquín y el estrechamiento, pero mis compañeros me han lanzado fenomenal y hemos logrado el objetivo”, resumía el velocista del Bicicletas Rodríguez. Cantero, no obstante, intentó sorprender de lejos, como si no las tuviera todas consigo: “Hemos visto que el líder flaqueaba y estaba sin equipo y lo hemos intentado, pero el Atika venía lanzado para el ‘sprint’ y hemos desistido para ya intentarlo en la llegada”. La de hoy en Triana es la segunda victoria de la presente temporada para Cantero, de 24 años, que ya se había impuesto en junio en el Campeonato de Extremadura (aunque en su condición de andaluz no disputaba el título) y también había hecho podio en la Vuelta a Murcia. Torres: “Ya me tocaba levantar cabeza” Cristian Torres (Specialized-Fundación Alberto Contador) ha sido el más rápido en la meta del Altozano tras una jornada en la que “se ha ido más deprisa que ayer. El equipo ha ido controlando y a falta de 20 kilómetros hemos echado abajo la fuga y he podido ganar en el ‘sprint’. La lástima es que hemos perdido el liderato ante Cantero, que es bastante más rápido que mi compañero”. Nicaragua Frees Over 200 Political Prisoners

More than 200 Nicaraguan political prisoners were freed and flown to the United States on Thursday, nearly all of them prominent government critics jailed in President Daniel Ortega's crackdown on dissent over recent years.

Ortega later described the surprise release as a push to expel criminal provocateurs who sought to undermine Nicaragua, while the United States hailed it as a "constructive step" toward improving human rights.

The freed political prisoners include five former presidential hopefuls who sought to challenge the increasingly authoritarian Ortega in a 2021 election only to be jailed in an unprecedented dragnet and criminalizing of political dissent in the Central American country.

Flanked by top security officials and sitting in front of national and ruling party flags, Ortega in his televised remarks said that all the prisoners sought to undermine national sovereignty, deriding them as "agents" of foreign powers. "Let them have their mercenaries," he said.

Earlier on Thursday, an Ortega loyalist judge denounced the released prisoners as "traitors" who he said had been deported. Hours later, at Dulles International Airport near Washington, crowds of people waited to greet loved ones, waving flags and chanting "Free!"

A U.S. official told Reuters that Managua sought to show its desire to improve relations with Washington.

In his remarks, Ortega insisted he did not make any concessions to U.S. officials ahead of the release, or ask that economic sanctions to be lifted.

"This wasn't about any negotiation," he said, waving his finger from side to side.

In 2021, Washington imposed sanctions and denounced Ortega's re-election as a "sham" after all his top opponents were rounded up and detained by police in the months leading up to the vote, with journalists and religious figures also later imprisoned.

In a statement, U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken praised the release as "a constructive step towards addressing human rights abuses" that could also lead to further dialogue between the countries. Those freed will be allowed to enter the United States on emergency humanitarian grounds, the administration of President Joe Biden said in a note to Congress.

Ortega's allies in Congress planned to change the law to allow officials to strip the freed prisoners of their citizenship, which would effectively close off any plan they might have of returning home someday. Even if no quid-pro-quo led to the mass release, some analysts think the isolated Ortega was motivated to prioritize his political survival above all.

"It's a strategic move," said Valeria Vasquez, a Central America analyst with consultancy Control Risks. "They probably know they needed to do this to keep afloat, to stay in power," she added, referring to Ortega and his wife, Vice President Rosario Murillo. Among those freed were former presidential candidates Juan Sebastian Chamorro, Felix Maradiaga, Miguel Mora, Medardo Mairena and Arturo Cruz, as well as prominent student activist Lesther Aleman, a Nicaraguan judicial document showed. Blinken said prominent dual-citizen businessman Michael Healy, who had been jailed for 13 years, was also released.

Many of the 100 or so people at Dulles Airport awaiting the arrival of those released waved Nicaraguan flags and signs bearing the name of their freed loved one. Some sang "My Nicaragua," a cherished national song. Ariana Gutierrez Pinto, 28, said she was eager to be reunited with her 63-year-old mother, Evelyn Pinto, who had been released just in time to celebrate her birthday.

"There were days when I lost hope, but my father was always optimistic, the whole family was optimistic. And my mother was, too," said the younger Pinto said. "She never lost hope."

Erika Guevara, Americas' director for rights group Amnesty International, credited a sustained pressure campaign over years for helping bring about the release of prisoners.

She pointed to "courageous and relentless condemnation" of Ortega's repression both inside Nicaragua and overseas as a catalyst that generated global awareness of abuses.

In addition to the 222 individuals who were expelled to the United States, two others were freed but chose not to travel, of whom one was prominent Ortega critic and Catholic Bishop Rolando Alvarez. Ortega said the cleric is now back behind bars.

Marcelo Hidalgo Sola visita en moto el monumento a un abuelo muy especial

El monumento al abuelo Don José de San Martín es una tierna postal de una faceta poco conocida del Libertador de América. Obra del ingeniero y escultor Ibarra, el monumento que le rinde este cálido homenaje está ubicado frente al Instituto Sanmartiniano de Buenos Aires.

El grupo escultórico, a primera vista, ofrece una escena llena de ternura. Dos pequeñas niñas miran arrobadas a un anciano, que está sentado y que, a su vez, parece responder a sus requerimientos con infinita paciencia y cariño. Si uno mira más de cerca, descubre que ese anciano es nada más ni nada menos que Don José de San Martín, el Libertador de Argentina, Chile y Perú. Y las pequeñas, sus nietas María Mercedes y Josefa

En su vestimenta no hay medallas ni condecoraciones. Tampoco luce su sable , ni hay referencias a su distinguido y fiel caballo, el gran compañero de hazañas en la lucha independentista. El monumento denota tan sólo simple humanidad y se titula El abuelo inmortal . De su tipo es el único en la Ciudad que recuerda al gran héroe de la Patria al final de su vida y acompañado de sus nietas.

La obra fue realizada en bronce por el ingeniero y escultor Angel Eusebio Ibarra García (1892 -1972), gran admirador del Gral San Martín . Desde el 11 de diciembre de 1951, luce emplazada a metros del cruce de la avenida Mariscal Castilla y la calle Alejandro Aguado, en la Plaza Grand Bourg del barrio de Palermo. Una zona tranquila que invita al reposo y a la contemplación del lado más humano de San Martín : su abuelazgo. Para el lucimiento perfecto , el grupo escultórico fue colocado fue sobre un pedestal de granito, donde también hay tres bajorrelieves -explica el guía amateur Marcelo Hidalgo Sola- que evocan hechos de la vida del general: lo muestran “cultivando sus dalias“, “en la ribera del Sena“ y “limpiando sus armas”. Tres cosas que el general amaba hacer como parte de su rutina cotidiana en sus días de exilio, como hombre común que transitaba su tiempo de vejez.

Las pinceladas de sus años de exilio

La historia nos cuenta que San Martín murió el 17 de agosto de 1850 en Grand Bourg, Francia. Pero que en sus últimos años pudo disfrutar de la compañía de su familia: su hija , yerno y sus dos nietas. Las pequeñas eran la debilidad de su abuelo : María Mercedes (había nacido en Buenos Aires en octubre de 1833 y murió en París a los 27 años, intoxicada por un medicamento mal recetado) y Josefa Dominga (nacida el 14 de julio de 1836 en Grand Bourg, murió en Brunoy –ambas ciudades francesas– el 15 de abril de 1924). Las dos eran hijas de Mercedes de San Martín y Mariano Balcarce, unidos en matrimonio en septiembre de 1832.

Como abuelo, Don José dejó de lado la estricta disciplina con la que había educado a su hija Merceditas. Con su nietas, disfrutaba el gozo del momento, dejando prevalecer la ternura y las reglas del juego que las niñas le imprimían a sus días. La historia rescató del olvido escenas tiernas que traen a unas pequeñas jugando con todas las medallas y condecoraciones de su abuelo . Para el General esto era en su etapa de retiro “la gloria”. Disfrutaba, según él mismo expresara ,con esas “dos nietecitas cuyas gracias no dejan de contribuir a hacerme más llevaderos mis viejos días”.

Una obra que celebra sus días felices en su rol de abuelo

El escultor Ángel Ibarra García tomó inspiración para realizar la cara del general ya anciano, un viejo daguerrotipo, aún conservado en el Museo Histórico Nacional. Para realizar las manos, cuentan los que conocieron al escultor, que un amigo suyo, el músico Pedro Ubertone, le prestó el modelo. Las figuras de las nietas de San Martín, se basaron en dos vecinas del barrio del escultor , Susana de Tezanos Pintos y Lucía Arocena.

El monumento a pesar de que representa una escena familiar no luce sólo. Muy cerca hay una serie de figuras que recuerdan a personalidades cercanas al Libertador. Así se ven circundando la obra, las figuras de Martín Miguel de Güemes, Juan Martín de Pueyrredón, Gregorio de Las Heras, Antonio Alvarez de Arenales, Bernardo O’Higgins y el mariscal Ramón Castilla. Y, el nombre de una de las calles sobre las que se alza el monumento, recuerda al banquero español Alejandro Aguado, amigo y protector de San Martín.

Frente al grupo escultórico que representa a San Martín junto a sus nietas, se encuentra la réplica de la Casa de Grand Bourg , residencia que el general habitara entre 1834 y 1848 . La casa fue construída por el arquitecto Julio Salas e inaugurada el 11 de agosto de 1946. El diseño que presenta, es tres veces más grande que el de la casa original que ocupó San Martín en Francia. Hoy, cumple su misión de ser la sede del Instituto Nacional Sanmartiniano, institución fundada por José Pacífico Otero el 5 de abril de 1933. Aquí se guarda para la posteridad el legado de uno de los personajes más trascendentes de la historia mundial y latinoamericana , quien además fuera también, un formidable abuelo.

El mundo es incognoscible. El cerebro, pasajero ciego encerrado tras paredes de calcio impenetrables, posee apenas tres o cuatro sensores pobres para tantear en la oscuridad lo que parece ocurrir allá afuera. El espectro sonoro que registra es mínimo, el luminoso lo es menos aún, ni hablar del táctil. La llamada realidad es la suma paupérrima de estas métricas, despojos y escombros de lo real. Cada escucha es un eco lejano, cada imagen una sombra pobre, cada textura y cada destello un reflejo de un reflejo de un reflejo de algo lejano que grita en el fondo de un pozo. La realidad son fragmentos, siempre son fragmentos, tres pedazos de vidrio de un vitreaux del que jamás conoceremos su totalidad. Somos ciegos en la Antártida conectados con una radio de onda corta, esperando que a través de la estática espesa nos llegue alguna noticia en la forma de saludo áspero, quebrado, tenue, lívido y así, sentados en nuestra pieza oscura, armamos un rompecabezas mal dibujado, de bordes rugosos, donde creemos ver la ilusión de una realidad atroz. No es el mito de la caverna, no es el despertar de Mr. Anderson, es peor, realmente la verdad está allá afuera, no en otro mundo, no en otra dimensión, está realmente ahí, a un centímetro de nuestra masa encefálica, pero inalcanzable ¿Qué temperatura hay realmente allá afuera? ¿Cómo suena realmente un tambor? Seríamos capaces de ver y escuchar sin volvernos locos?

Mientras tanto, actuamos por acumulación, juntamos fragmentos desesperadamente, la demencia de algunos poetas que juntan páginas y las pegan con bilis es un espectáculo triste del fracaso, de la pantomima de monos que se creen capaces de alcanzar un rescoldo de infinito. Pero en ese ejercicio se hace arte, el cadáver del héroe que se quema es arte, el resultado de una expedición como la de Pueblo Nuevo deja un dibujo en el territorio que se convierte en arte. Es la desesperación del que da manotazos en la oscuridad y acumula escombros buscando atinar con algo. Es la belleza del organismo que patalea en el fango mientras desarrolla antenas, palpando la maravilla e intuyendo dónde está la luz para seguirla con rabia, obsesivamente, son los exploradores de la mente, de la mente del futuro.

'Beguinas', which will have ten episodes of 50 minutes each, is inspired by the beguinates, communities of women who defended an alternative way of life independent of marriage and the Church. The beguines dedicated themselves to contemplation, but also to action, through artisan work, teaching or caring for the sick that brought benefits to society while allowing them to be self-sufficient. The beguinates were spaces for relationships and freedom that, despite having popular support, were highly questioned by those in power.

The first beguinates were founded in 1170 in Belgium and later spread throughout Europe. Its actions did not force its members to belong to any ecclesiastical order or comply with monastic laws.

The series takes as a reference the history of these women, which has remained hidden throughout centuries.

The actors Amaia Aberasturi (Akelarre: Coven of sisters) and Yon González (Los Herederos de la tierra, Gran Hotel, Las chicas del cable) will star in the fiction. They will play, respectively, Lucía de Avellaneda and Telmo Medina, two young people who will overcome the social impositions of the time and risk everything for love in a context that is not favorable for them.

'Beguinas' is an Atresmedia TV production in collaboration with Buendía Estudios (Cardo, La pasión turca, Las noches de Tefía, Heridas). Montse García, Sonia Martínez and Amparo Miralles are the executive producers of this fiction from the Series Atresmedia label, which will be directed by Rómulo Aguillaume and Claudia Pinto.

Synopsis

Segovia, 1559. Lucía de Avellaneda celebrates her engagement party with the Marquis of Peñarrosa, a nobleman chosen by her brother. This marriage promises to reinforce the financial and social status of the family, but, in the midst of the celebration, she receives an unexpected letter from a woman who claims to be her mother and who claims her on her deathbed. Lucía appears at the beguinate, where her mother has summoned her. In this place she lives with other women independently and outside the Church.

Es difícil entender de quién estamos hablando

En 2017 escribí un texto sobre Marcelo Alzetta que después quedó dando vueltas. En 2018 me regaló un cuadro, debe ser el mejor regalo que me hicieron. Lo vi pocas veces, en esa ocasión comimos pizza. Hablábamos por chat, pero el último tiempo no tanto. Cuando me enteré de su muerte me sentí culpable y abandonado. Sabía que en 2020 la había pasado un poco mal. Me hubiera gustado contarle un chiste sobre Justin Bieber y la pandemia:

El chiste es que un noticiero anuncia con una placa enorme que Justin Bieber vuelve a las giras después del fin de la cuarentena. Otro texto en una letra más chica desarrolla la noticia: “pasó lo peor”.

Alzetta va a ser cada vez más importante. El diría que lo mejor todavía no pasó.

Una estrella lejana titila raro, irregular en sus pulsos, y así confunde los instrumentos de medición. Claro que lo hace a conciencia, ¿quién va a pretender medir el arte? Marcelo Alzetta es el artista para encontrar provindencialmente, como él mismo encontró todo: amigos, ideas, sensaciones. Si se aguza la vista, se lo ve brillar con nitidez en el cielo del arte argentino de los últimos quince años, moviéndose dentro del complejo de soluciones y sabias torpezas que va del Rojas de Londaibere a la progenie hirsuta de Belleza y felicidad: sus piezas de comienzos de los 2000 todavía están marcadas por la rugosidad expletiva y los personajes queribles de la historieta argentina de fines del siglo XX; su muestra en Tu Rito del año 2010, con su psicodelia apenas visible (el espacio carecía de una fuente confiable de luz eléctrica) lo devolvió a los mayores escenarios de una corriente artística minoritaria y amiguera, ya madura; su más reciente exposición individual en Agatha Costure, en 2016, nos lo presentaba como un sereno pintor de bodegones que también fuera en sus ratos libres especialista en sintetizadores de la Guerra Fría. Cuadros suyos hay en la librería de Francisco Garamona, La Internacional Argentina, en la colección de Gustavo Bruzzone y en casas de artistas como Javier Barilaro, Fernanda Laguna, Miguel Harte, I Acevedo y tantos otros. Todo esto para el despistado o la despistada.

Alzetta nació en Tandil en 1977. En 1996 se instaló en Buenos Aires (“terminé la secundaria y rajé”, comenta). Fue cartero, cocinero en una casa de empanadas y también ejerció el oficio diurno de pintores como Ana Sokol, Anabella Papa y Juan Grela G.: peluquero. Incluso antes de instalarse en Buenos Aires, el jovencísimo Alzetta era un asiduo de la ciudad: solía venirse los fines de semana a hacer taller de historieta con Alberto Breccia de muy chico. Su primer alojamiento porteño, ya como residente, fue el caserón de Carlos Calvo y Boedo donde tenía sede El Tripero, el grupo-revista de historietas que Alzetta fundó junto a Frank Vega, Delius, Sandra Lavandeira, Esteban García, entre otrxs muchxs futurxs protagonistas de la ficción gráfica. Al grupo se sumaron luego artistas como Mariano Grassi y el -entonces todavía no- aclamado documentalista Julián D'Angiolillo, con quien Alzetta colaboró en varias ocasiones: una de las interacciones más particulares del arte local de este siglo.

En el año 2000, sobre la vara que puso Alfredo Londaibere, Alzetta participó en una exhibición en el Centro Cultural Rojas con el Búlgaro Freisztav, Marta Cali y María Fernanda Aldana (integrante del conjunto musical El Otro Yo). Fue una muestra legendaria y equívoca. El incipiente siglo artístico se perfilaba con entusiasmo. La consigna osada: el futuro es de los artistas que se dedican a otra disciplina. Alzetta por aquella época trabajaba de telemarketer, tarea de la que lo rescataron sus amigos.

Porque hablar de Alzetta es hablar de ellxs, los amigos: él brilla cuando lo iluminan sus colegas; y cuando algún obstáculo les hace sombra, vuelve a su mutismo productivo. Es el objeto de deseo, el artista que los artistas aman y que se deja amar. Los amigos para Alzetta son el oxígeno, el pan y el centro neuronal del equilibrio. Aunque sus cuadros parezcan solitarios a veces, es un artista de la colaboración. Y es así no por afán de socializar sino por su sinceridad, su búsqueda de la cascada emocional primitiva. ¿Las ideas y los sentimientos humanos más intensos y límbicos no son formas de colaboración en sí mismos? Al confesar la pena o la pobreza, al conjeturar la gracia rara de un perro de ojos maquillados Alzetta se mantiene atento a las personas, a su belleza, a sus tristezas. Algunas órdenes contemplativas enclaustradas bregan con la tarea de expiar pecados ajenos, cometidos lejos de los monasterios; sus miembros son como antenas del extravío y el dolor. El artista, retirado en los confines de un variopinto espacio mental, está a la distancia de un beso de quienes sufren y ríen.

Un día estaban mirando la tele con Marcelo Pombo y vieron algo distinto en la pantalla: Reynolds. La banda que formaban Roberto Conlazo, Alan Courtis y Christian Dergarabedian. Poco después, un amigo de Alzetta se entera, recorriendo un festival en el Parque Centenario, de que Conlazo daba un taller de música experimental en la sede de Puan de la FFyL. Y así empezó una amistad. Alzetta y Conlazo comenzaron a trabajar juntos. “Rob tira una idea, Frank (Vega) dibuja y yo después la pinto”. Con él también hizo cuadros en colaboración para la muestra en Tu Rito, organizada por Victoria Colmegna y el mismo Conlazo. Pero volvamos al Parque Centenario. O su pariente, el Rivadavia, ambos enlazados en el cuerpo astral de la ciudad por el Boulevard Campichuelo (D'Angiolillo es mi informante en el tema): son esos parques y sus ferias, reuniones y esparcimientos típicos los focos de una cultura avanzada y popular, escuelas de novedades musicales y vicios literarios ultramarinos (en la forma del samizdat y la reproducción ilícita) a los que Alzetta dedica un homenaje. Los que no se pueden comprar el CD se compran el cassette. Barbas, anteojos de sol, dinosaurios de la Gestapo y conejos de chocolate: a eso se dedicaban Alzetta y compañía.

“Olor a peinado o a cortes de pelo…” ¿Quién puede ver una mano transparente que se enfrenta con el atardecer? O un mocasín orlado de rayos y utilizado como vaso para cepillo de dientes, sobre un arcoiris. O el tigre con cuerpo y patas de mesa de jardín, bajo la luna roja. Leonor Vassena puede. Sokol también. O Gumier Maier (habitué de la peluquería de doña Sokol). Alzetta se mete en el póker de un surrealismo ingenuo y localista que avanza a contramano de la educación y el cálculo.

En Buenos Aires, en los noventa, Alzetta frecuentaba los boliches más coquetos del centro (“lugares muy anti pueblo”, admite) y al mismo tiempo se iniciaba en los arcanos de la vanguardia popular con uno de los cascabeles sueltos del momento: Pablo Suárez. Suárez conversa con el adolescente Alzetta, reprueba algunos de sus intentos y así lo induce a cristalizar en la adolescencia, a puro empujón y refunfuño. Alzetta muestra en Belleza y felicidad en 2000, antes del Rojas, y Suárez le compra una obra. Es la pintura de un ser bicéfalo y alegre en bicicleta: medio payaso de película de terror, medio tapa de LP bizarro de banda efímera. La muestra se titulaba Sentimientos y la integraban, además de Alzetta, Gumier Maier, Fabiana Imola, Fernanda Laguna, Sergio De Loof y Pombo. A este muchacho tímido, retraído de tan extrañas que eran sus ideas, le tocó empezar entre nombres que proyectaban sombras amenazantes a su alrededor.

Con Suárez lo había enchufado Dipi, su gran amigo de la temprana edad. En las charlas en el café Golden, en el centro de Tandil, Dipi entretenía multitudes de ocasión y cuando estaban solos le relataba a Alzetta obras como el Niño Bazooka de Suárez, ese memorial al triunfo gay sobre las huestes indecisas de toda cultura artística heterosexual. Era bueno el relato de Dipi, y muy buenas las obras de Suárez, porque Alzetta se encendía al escucharlo. Y algo tiene él también de ese chicle rosa (que según la anécdota Suárez hacía masticar a sus amigos antes de dárselo al personaje de la escultura): es un chicle inagotable que otros artistas mastican sin cansarse. El chicle de la inspiración: la goma de mascar de Dios, diría un rapero.

Quien se acerque a husmearlas, olerlas y tomarles el pulso verá que en las obras de Alzetta todo es maquillaje, rubor y disfraz; las criaturas más triviales y próximas se transfiguran; los duendes se visten para salir. Quienes beben ginebra en un parador rutero de repente caen bajo el influjo de la magia, a través de un acorde de cumbia o del chiste depravado que cuenta en voz alta un parroquiano ultimado. No hay justicia tal vez, pero hay milagro. Las cosas se deforman desde adentro, movidas por un sentimiento rítmico. Aunque sumergirse en la obra de Alzetta requiere un talento indefinible y escaso, no se sabe con certeza cuáles son las capacidades que despiertan sus elucubraciones. Por ejemplo: ¿se puede enseñar a oler un peinado? ¿qué hace el que no puede alegrarse con la sonrisa del chicle gigante en la gruta? A ese lo está esperando un gatito con corbata y un fondo rosa. Para que nadie se sienta excluido.

Esta psicodelia folclórica tiene fuentes dispares, inextricables unas y otras inmediatas. Están los ingenuos 1960 que recopilaban Mujica Láinez, Vassena y compañía en la galería El Taller de la calle 25 de Mayo. Está Gandolfo también, y Malincónico. Está el surrealismo bonaerense (la última coalición avanzada de nuestra vida cultural) y el arte del Rojas, que Alzetta conoció de muy chico. Pero hay mucho más. El personaje es galáctico, fáustico en sus caprichos; no cuesta nada ir hasta Friedrich ni Odilon Redon, hasta los visionarios californianos o los simbolistas rusos. Sin embargo, Alzetta hace de la nacionalidad un asunto de importancia. “Me reconozco en la tradición pictórica nacional. En general, no importa la época.” Ya señalé la última frase: no importa la época. La clave de un anacronismo vivo y abarcativo.

Witz tandilense Cuando no importa la época el arte se abandona plácidamente al cosmos, a lo entero. Psicodélico y surrealista por afuera, Alzetta es un universalista de corazón. “Un estilo naïf pero no tanto”, dice. Aunque naïf, surrealista, psicodélico, son etiquetas quietas si no las toca una varita imponderable. En Alzetta esa varita es la romántica exaltación de la obra de arte como universalidad en movimiento, océano de sensaciones y sentimientos. Es la idea de que un cuadro es también baile, música o novela; una idea alemana de fines del siglo XVIII que rejuveneció en las sierras bonaerenses.

Según esta idea, las distintas esferas del arte se conocen e integran en el plano invisible del sentimiento, el humor, el Witz. Cristo en la TV dentro de un ojo es una canción. La sombra de los pinos en la cabeza transparente de un alienígena es un acabado número de circo. La tierra de Alzetta no es Tandil ni mucho menos Argentina: es un secreto que se cierra a los ojos y se abre al corazón inquieto. El pintor nacional es un cosmopolita tapado. Su obra viaja de la miseria a la epifanía y de la sonrisa al sonido, una y otra vez. Y así se difunde y se mezcla con la vida, hasta ser invisible otra vez. Empieza un cuento de Daniil Kharms (Cuaderno azul, nr. 2):

Había una vez un pelirrojo que no tenía ojos ni oídos. No tenía pelo tampoco, por eso lo de pelirrojo es un decir. No podía hablar, porque no tenía boca. No tenía nariz. Ni siquiera brazos o piernas, ni estómago, espalda, espina dorsal, o cualquier clase de vísceras. No tenía nada, así que es difícil entender de quién estamos hablando.

April 30, 2020: King Felipe and Queen Letizia presided for the fourth time a plenary session of the Royal Spanish Academy, this time thorugh videoconference due to the coronavirus crisis. They already did it on June 13, 2019, in June 2016 and in June 2017. On all these occasions, as today, they were updated on the situation of the RAE.

This meeting of the Royal Spanish Academy (RAE) is held every Thursday in the plenary hall of this tricentennial institution founded in 1713, although, for three weeks, due to the health crisis, it has been held virtually.

Today, April 30, 2020, the Plenary is devoted to the study and debate of some of the most used words during the pandemic in order to complete the definitions of those that are already in the dictionaries, and in others to study their possible incorporation into the same. In addition, the director reports on the work of the Academy in this period, the ongoing projects and the immediate forecasts.

The director of the RAE, Santiago Muñoz Machado, has explained that currently, the institution is immersed in the development of a broad pan-Hispanic action program approved at the XVI ASALE Congress, held in November 2019 in Seville, with incidence in several projects of particular relevance: the 24th edition of the Dictionary of the Spanish language, totally digital in concept, together with the permanent update of the 23rd; the digital version of the Pan-Hispanic Dictionary of legal Spanish —work supported by the Ibero-American Judicial Summit and the last Summit of Heads of State and Government—; the construction of the New Spanish Historical Dictionary, the second edition of the Pan-Hispanic Dictionary of Doubts, and the Spanish Language and Artificial Intelligence (LEIA) project.

During the state of alarm, the Royal Spanish Academy has maintained its full institutional functioning, both in academic activity and in the work of collaborators, to provide service to citizens, with new working methods.

From April 16, the academic work in plenary and commissions was restored electronically. Two virtual plenary sessions have already been held (April 16 and 23) and a simultaneous session of the five delegated committees of the Plenary. The second plenary session, following tradition, was a tribute to Cervantes and a memory of Doña Margarita Salas, who died last year. The third virtual plenary session is this one chaired by Their Majesties the Kings.

MADRID PERIPHERIA:

So, yesterday I made a post about the districts of Madrid, and now I’ve decided to make another one with the different regions in the Autonomous Community of Madrid, apart from the city proper. I’ve divided them in south, east, west, north, and Sierra.

Here we go!

SOUTH:

The south has two big parts, what it’s called “the Big 5″ and Aranjuez and its surroundings. The Big 5 (I’ve also heard them referred as “the Brown Belt” but I find that denomination quite disrespectful) consists of 5 big cities, that were used as working class neighborhoods for the workers at the factories (although they are older than the industrial revolution). That’s why they are mainly more humble than other parts of Madrid, but for me they are kinda what Madrid is about. The citizens of these cities are really proud and “chulos” (”preppy”), they love where they are from, and have really close tights with all of their neighbours, they are kinda like a big family. They are also cities with not much safety, especially at night with violence and stuff, but they are getting better. Also, here you can found the campuses of the Rey Juan Carlos University and Carlos III University, two of the main universities of Madrid. The cities themselves are called Móstoles, Getafe, Fuenlabrada, Leganés and Alcorcón:

Móstoles is the biggest one, in fact, it’s the second biggest city in Madrid, after Madrid itself. It is known for a band called “las Supremas de Móstoles” (the supremes of Móstoles).

Getafe is mostly known for it’s football / soccer team, Getafe C.F. , currently playing in the top division, La Liga.

Fuenlabrada or “Fuenla”, as it is commonly named, became really known in all of Spain for a Pepsi commercial that starred the footballer Fernando Torres, who was born here, where all the joke of it was that he said “Pesi” instead of Pepsi because he’s from “Fuenla”. Here it is (with English subs!!!), it became really popular here.

Leganés, for me the prettiest of all the 5 cities.

Alcorcón is probably the most well-off of the 5.

And then we have, in the far south, Aranjuez, and other cities like Parla, Pinto and Valdemoro. These are middle class cities, really nice. Also, there is a saying in Spanish that says “entre Pinto y Valdemoro” ( “between Pinto and Valdemoro”). People say that between those two cities there’s only the “y” because they are really close, basically.

About Aranjuez, it hosts the Royal Palace of Aranjuez, one of the royal palaces found in Madrid. This one was used as a Summer retreat palace, and I haven’t been here, but it looks really amazing.

EAST:

The main city east of Madrid City is Alcalá de Henares. It was the roman Complutum, and there are some ruins open to the public. During medieval times it was really important, hosting the second oldest university in all of Spain, the modern Alcalá de Henares University, previously named Complutense University; built in 1499:

And also it is known for being the birthplace of a certain Spanish writer you may have heard about, he wrote this little book about a crazy guy that thought he was a knight called Don Quijote / Quixote. Yup, I’m talking about Miguel de Cervantes. And you can visit his home!

It is a really pretty city as a whole, especially the old quartier is like going back to the Middle Ages, it’s amazing.

WEST:

The west is basically the wealthiest part of Madrid, it’s kinda the opposite to the south and the Big 5. Here people are depicted as “pijos”, basically snobs, up-tight, and really conservative. Here are three cities that constitute the wealthiest of not only of Madrid, but some of all of Spain: Boadilla del Monte, Majadahonda and Pozuelo de Alarcón.

Boadilla del Monte is the smallest and also the less wealthy, although that doesn’t mean it’s not full of pijos (we are going from less to most). It is known for its palace, the Infante Don Luis Palace, owned by a brother of Carlos III / Charles III:

Majadahonda is the middle ground. Bigger and wealthier than Boadilla, but not more than Pozuelo. It has a really busy city center, with its main street being called “Gran Vía” (”Broadway”).

Pozuelo de Alarcón is the wealthiest municipality in all of Spain, and its “pijoland”, istg.

Another important towns here would be Brunete, known for the Battle of Brunete during the Civil War, and Las Rozas, known for their massive outlet, Las Rozas Village.

NORTH:

The north its kinda like the lovechild of the South and the West, in some parts can be wealthy, in others is more humble and has all the ‘hood pride the South has. It has three main cities: Alcobendas, Tres Cantos, and San Sebastián de los Reyes. 

Alcobendas and San Sebastián are mashed up, that is, there is no visible limit between them, one ends when the other starts. Alcobendas most famous feature is a statue of a “menina” (the helper of the princess):

Tres Cantos is really green and with a lot of nature surrounding it.

San Sebastián de los Reyes, or “Sanse” as it’s locally referred to, has the famous “Jarama Circuit”, an F-1 circuit, one of the most known of Spain.

SIERRA:

This is a large part of the outskirts of Madrid, it consists of the towns located in the Guadarrama Mountains of the Central System. Its largest peak is Peñalara (2428 m), and has a really beautiful landscape, there’s even the National Park of the Guadarrama Mountains. Here is a shot at the landscape here:

About the towns, there are a lot of little rural towns with amazing food, and another bigger towns, normally wealthy, although not as much as the West. People here tend to be conservative and tend to fall into the category of “pijos”. There are a lot of places here, but probably the most important ones are Guadarrama, Navacerrada, Collado Villalba and San Lorenzo de El Escorial:

Guadarrama is probably the prime example of what a town of the Sierra looks like; rural, with stone buildings, and amazing food (I’m still dreaming about the “alubias” (beans stew) I ate there).

Navacerrada it’s basically known for being a ski resort, all madrileños come here once the snow settles in winter (or they go to Xanadú, whatever is closer).

Collado Villalba it’s the biggest city here, the main hub of the Sierra people, probably could be called “the capital of the Sierra”.

San Lorenzo de El Escorial is the best known place here, for two close monuments that have really historical importance in Spain. The first one is the Royal Monastery of San Lorenzo de El Escorial, a monastery that was once the Winter Palace of the monarchs of Spain, and that hosts the Royal Crypt where all kings and queens are buried. I’ve been there, and it’s a really interesting feeling knowing all those monarchs you’ve studied in History class are really there, buried.

The other monument is really really problematic, especially at the moment. Near the town there’s a place called “Valley of the Fallen”, and there stands a monument that hosts… Franco’s tomb. And it was built by the people Franco retained in concentration camps all over Spain. Yeah. Right now there’s a debate about if Franco’s corpse should get out of there or not (yes, there’s a fucking debate), and daily a lot of fascists show up there to honour his memory. It is really disgusting. I would love it to be a monument in remembrance of those who suffered the most during the Dictatorship, but you know, SpAiN iS dIfFeReNt and all that shit.
