Round 1B: Beauty and the Beast vs Katy Keene

Beauty and the Beast: While investigating a murder, Detective Catherine Chandler, discovers a clue that leads her to Dr. Vincent Keller, a man who supposedly died in Afghanistan in 2002. She realizes that she has met him before, years earlier when he saved her from an assault that left her mother dead, and that he suffers from a condition that causes rage to turn him into a monster, which has forced him out of society. Catherine agrees to keep his identity secret in exchange for his help untangling the truth about her mother's murder. Their partnership turns out to be a dangerous one, as they battle a powerful attraction that threatens to destroy them both.

Katy Keene: Katy designs clothes for anyone she can, including her friend and roommate Josie, whose singing talent catches the attention of Alexander Cabot, a CEO who hopes to reboot the record label division of his father's corporate empire. But Alexander's dream of signing Josie to a recording contract meets resistance from Cabot Media's powerful senior vice president Alexandra, who also happens to be his twin sister. Josie and Katy's roommate, Jorge, works at his family's bodega and has his eye on Broadway, but after a series of rejections, he hopes to take his drag performance career as Ginger to the next level. The mysterious Pepper Smith plans to open her own version of Andy Warhol's Factory. She has the connections, but no one seems to know where she got her money or if she really has any at all. As these aspiring artists take on the runway, the recording studio, Broadway and the New York social scene, they find more than just a career in the big city -- they find long-lasting friendship.

Pretty Little Liars and Riverdale share the same universe!

Apparently, the upcoming show Pretty Little Liars: Original Sin will not only be the continuation of a previous TV franchise, but will also tie it with another one: the Riverdale universe.

In fact, one of the characters is said to have had a connection to Riverdale, meaning that the world in which Archie, Betty, Jughead and the others live has been on air, in some shape or form, for more than a decade.

I like this because both franchises started out as a "simple" murder mystery, but ended up with featuring the craziest ideas you could imagine (to the point of making you wondering what the heck is going on), and they also had two spin-offs, one being a supernatural show and another one being a short lived series set in the "future".

There are three things that make this connections amazing:

It retroactively establishes that the craziness of Riverdale's plots makes sense because this is just how their universe works, due to how equally crazy the PLL universe is;

Since Ravenswood was a failed spin-off, Pretty Little Liars barely acknowledged that the supernatural exists in its world. However, Riverdale took a deep dive in the fact that The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina is set in the same universe, so it's not like they kept sweeping under the rug that the supernatural is real there;

This means that we have a TV franchise that extends through 4 different networks (ABC Family/Freeform, The CW, Netflix and HBO Max). Of the modern and current TV franchises, only the Arrowverse managed to tie more networks together;

Heeyy, was wondering would the CW wait till after Legacies finale to determine the status of the show? (Would only be fair but given the that'll be closer to the end of the month maybe unlikely they'd wait that long)

Upfronts are May 19, Legacies finale is May 26. They’ll probably want to make decisions by then, but if they’re on the fence I could see them waiting until a month or so after the finale to see if streaming numbers improve, they’ve done that before (Katy Keene is one example - didn’t work out there but they gave it a fair shot).

I think I've seen the first two seasons of Supergirl, maybe three but it's been a while. While it wasn't perfect, I kinda loved it, but I fell off when I couldn't keep up with all the other CW DC shows 😭 are the later season's good? I'd definitely be keen to keep watching if Lena's in it a lot 🥺 Katie McGrath has me in a chokehold
