you know how sometimes a character will mention a food they like and then the fandom will turn that into like 60% of their personality?
ax animorphs is the best character because he genuinely is just Like That in canon. he has repeatedly called the cinnamon bun one of humanity's greatest inventions. he gave a cinnamon bun to a girl he liked as a present. he keeps a framed picture of a cinnamon bun in his otherwise sparsely-decorated room. one time he ate an entire tray of cinnamon buns so quickly that he horrified bystanders and had to have the paramedics called. he later admitted to practicing eating cinnamon buns to prevent himself from going ballistic again. he begins promoting cinnabon as an andalite tourist destination after the war. literally all of these sound like silly headcanons you would read in a tumblr post but they're all real. the cinnamon bun lover of all time.

one of the funniest underrated parts of animorphs to me is the fact that time travel is a surprisingly common plot point, and yet it kinda gets glossed over because it almost never factors into the story in a way that actually matters. like. jake dies crossing the delaware but gets better on a technicality. there were aliens on earth at the same time as the dinosaurs but the asteroid got them too. time travel is a known phenomenon that the andalites have studied, but we don’t actually get any explanation for it because ax was distracted in class that day. everyone went back in time 24 hours and then died and forgot everything. two separate members of the main cast are different varieties of time anomalies and really the only effect it has on them is tobias getting over his family issues. jake is shown a prophetic vision of a world where the yeerks win and we just never get an explanation for what the fuck that was about. every time time travel is brought up, it contradicts at least one other time travel plotline. this is the series that taught me to never take time travel seriously in fiction and i can’t thank it enough for that. this is hilarious.

the skrit na are peak animorphs worldbuilding actually.
yes, the grays actually exist.
yes, they actually ride around in flying saucers.
yes, they actually abduct people. cows too.
yes, they actually dissect people and then put them back together and let them go. sometimes they put them in a zoo instead.
none of the other aliens know what their deal is. they have a larval stage where they look like giant cockroaches. one time they somehow obtained the most dangerous weapon in the entire universe and just threw it in their junk drawer next to a mustang convertible and a case of dr pepper. they are directly in the middle of a galactic war and have survived untouched because neither side cares enough about them. i don't think any of the main cast besides ax even know they exist?
every sci-fi series should do this. this is awesome.

father mulcahy has gotta be one of my favorite fictional characters of all time. just imagine. you're a priest in the middle of a war. you're surrounded by doctors and nurses working day and night to patch up hordes of wounded soldiers. everyone knows how futile it is - at the end of the day, these soldiers, these children, are just being fixed up so they can be sent right back into combat again. and what is your place in all this? you were sent here to heal the soul rather than the body, but few people in camp attend your sunday services, and confessions are sparse. the doctors have a nice clear number to tell them how good they're doing - 97.8%, the highest survival rate of any army hospital in the country. but there's no such way to measure spiritual healing, and so your invisible work weighs on you. you question whether you're even helping at all. and you become so lost in your feelings of inadequacy that you can't see the good you're doing. you can't see how much everyone depends on you. you can't see that in the middle of this violent, nonsensical theatre, your soft words, open ear, and quiet optimism are what gives everyone the strength to make it through each day. your mere presence has shaped this mess of a camp into a brilliant parish, and you're too humble to ever realize it.

no piece of media has ever managed to make me feel like i was in a different time period quite as strongly as animorphs book 16, where they infiltrate aol and spend the entire time spouting computer lingo nobody has spoken aloud in the past decade and a half. the book opens with marco bragging about his top-of-the-line modem, with a whole 56,000 bits per second, and really that just sets the tone for the entire adventure.

let's talk about this image for a moment
Tumblr media
i mean just really process it. because the logistics of this bedroom just keep getting worse the longer i look at it.
that bed is not touching any walls. the shelf is blocking the back wall and there is clearly room to push it to the right.
the bed is only half-blocking the shelf, leaving an awkward gap behind the baseboard.
because the bed is so unnecessarily close to the bureau, he can't open the lower drawer without banging his shin.
the fact that the bureau is so close to the window makes it look like the bureau is also pulled away from the wall, although i'm willing to give tobias the benefit of the doubt on that one and say he just has a really narrow room because his family doesn't love him.
he's definitely banged his elbow trying to open that window with how cramped it is back there.
the position of the blanket implies tobias was sleeping with his feet towards the wall (possibly lying on the bed backwards if that's the baseboard we're seeing, although it might just be a big footboard).
as an added bonus, the model was clearly sitting with his hand resting on a ledge and they did not properly align it with the bed when they photoshopped him into this clusterfuck of a bedroom.

super awesome part of animorphs is that you can tell exactly when k.a. applegate decides to really start going off the rails with her plot concepts. the first ten books are all at a pretty baseline level of weirdness as we get all our important worldbuilding and character dynamics established, then once that's all done it goes straight into "The Animorphs Get Stranded In The Amazon Rainforest," "Rachel Sneezes Out A Crocodile," actual important tobias stuff because he hasn't had a second book yet, and then "Alien Toilet Hidden At Knock-Off Area 51."

for as much shit as the art style gets, i still maintain that the animorphs graphic novels have my absolute favorite human tobias design.
Tumblr media
this is the wettest, most pathetic tobias i've ever seen. his clothes are visibly more wrinkled than everyone else's, he's always walking around with a pair of ratty headphones, and he's desperately trying to pull off a hair style that just isn't working. one look at this guy and you can instantly believe jake met him with his head shoved in a toilet. hell, i almost want to shove his head in a toilet. a+ work, no notes.

I know this has been said many times before, but one of the things that makes adventure time so great is how it builds off its own weird-ass internal logic to create stories that are incredible to fans of the show who are in on said logic, while simultaneously seeming like utter randomness to an outsider. Which is how you get stuff like this:
Tumblr media
This image is hilarious out of context. This is some sort of bizarre eldritch alien creature casually riding a bus. This single frame is also one of the most gut-wrenching moments AT has ever produced, and that's the beauty of this show to me.

another fun thing about the reddit migration is that there's already such an interconnected web of refugees all following each other. I keep seeing the same names pop up again and again in reblogs and mentions to the extent that there are several people on here I just assumed I was following up until I got the "you might like this blog..." notification. and then I follow them, and new names pop up, and my followed list just gets bigger and bigger.
so keep up the good work, and keep promoting each other so I can find more people to follow.

holy shit thank you adam copeland. this might be the best casting in a show already full of fantastic casting. the looks, the demeanor, he nails all of it.
and then the writing? all the new material they gave him? i was already loving him from the moment he pulled over on the road, but it just kept getting better and better. the entire dialogue between him and grover is one of the best scenes in the entire show. ooooh gods i can't wait to see what they do with him later. you know what's coming up here.

I'm seeing a lot of people freaking out over seeing hisuian pokemon in modern-day kitakami because they thought they were exctinct, but I always thought that idea was kinda unlikely personally?
I mean, first of all, I simply doubt that they would make all these pokemon and then say they're extinct and can't show up in present-day games aside from being transferred in. blocking regular pokemon away like that for story purposes that doesn't really feel like pokemon's design philosophy to me. sure, they always talked about the hisuian pokemon in the context of the past and never addressed why we haven't seen them in the present, but that's because they were being marketed for a game set in the past. their present whereabouts didn't matter yet. I think people jumped to conclusions about them being extinct when migration, reduced populations, or simply accepting it as a retcon were all just as likely options.
but I think a related issue is that a lot of people generally think pla is set way earlier than it actually is. I see the word "centuries" thrown around a lot in regards to timing, but if we map it onto the real-world meiji era (which it's clearly based on), it's only about 150 years in the past if we assume the earliest. this isn't a fossil pokemon situation like I've seen some people compare it to - with a timeframe like that, it's more than possible for these pokemon to have survived into the modern day. hell, for most of these, i'd be shocked if they had gone extinct in that short a time period. we've been keeping the same dog breeds alive for literal thousands of years, so it shouldn't be any surprise that hisuian growlithe still exists.
the returning hisuian pokemon in teal mask is exactly how I expected them to be treated. perrin casually has a hisuian growlithe. white-stripe basculin live in kitakami. there's the implication that wild ursaluna can still be found elsewhere. like with pokemon from any other region, they just become part of the greater pokemon world once their spotlight game has come and gone.

i still want an answer for what the fuck game freak meant by this btw. the unassuming route 1 bug gym leader quotes giovanni's catch phrase and this is just never addressed? they had to know what they were doing with this, right? this single line has been rattling around in my head driving me crazy since the game came out and i need an explanation, game freak.

malos? malos is in n's sword? not just logos, but malos specifically? mr takahashi what do you mean malos is dead "for the time being"???? you can't just give me hope for more malos content like that!!! and apparently matthew's gauntlets are actually just pyra and mythra for some reason. like i think we all assumed these were just logos and pneuma, but no, the actual blade personas are somehow present in all this.
Tumblr media
and fiora is there in the weapons too for some fucking reason??? and nobody knew about this????? some people just became objects when aionios was created?
Tumblr media
MR TAKAHASHI DO YOU MEAN TO TELL ME THAT THIS ENTIRE TIME, LUCKY SEVEN WASN'T NAMED AFTER A BUNCH OF NOPON, BUT AFTER THE ACTUAL FAN-GIVEN NICKNAME "SEVEN." WHAT.
