A PETITION TO THE PRESIDENT
From
THE INTERNATIONAL UPLIFT LEAGUE.
To His Excellency,
The President of
The United States of America,
The White House, Washington, D.C.
Dear Mr. President:
For the GOOD and true HONOR of our beloved country, the United States of America, in the NAME of ALMIGHTY GOD, LYNCHING should be abolished.  Opinion seems unanimous that the United States Government possesses permanently the greater jurisdictional control (about 3/4) over each United States Citizen; and the State in which the citizen resides holds the remaining (1/4) jurisdiction.
Hence the elimination of LYNCHING, our most heinous STIGMA, should be accomplished through the Federal Government, because the respective States, for more than fifty years, have failed to suppress LYNCHING.  Therefore, we urgently appeal to our honored President, and hereby PETITION him to URGE the enactment into LAW, during the Extra Session of Congress, of either Senator France's or Representative Dyer ANTI-LYNCHING BILL.  By such worthy and magnanimous ACT, Mr. President, you will immortalize your NAME like the illustrious Lincoln when we signed the Emancipation Proclamation.  Amen.
For the Women.
(Miss) Emma J. Chrichton
For the Men.
David Newton E. Campbell
Secretary I.U. League
P.S. We hope to secure millions of signatures to this PETITION and forward same duly.

So on Sunday @corvusatrox and I went to Prospect Park for birding purposes, but before we really started with that we came across this Pinkster celebration at the historic Lefferts House, which was essentially a plantation farm back in the late 18th and early 19th Centuries before slavery was abolished in New York State in 1827.
(They do tours of the inside, which I did once as a kid, but that wasn't happening today)
Pinkster, which I only learned about through the celebration, has its named derived from the Dutch word for Pentecost, and was a holiday in which slaves could move freely within a 50 mile radius, allowing them to try reconnecting with the relatives they'd lost through slavery.
(As I learned afterwards, the main reason you've probably never heard of it was that the white powers that be moved to prevent its observance in the late 19th Century because they feared revolt, and this state of affairs would last until the 1970s)
I've got a bit of a personal history with the wood-fired oven in the back, during one of my high school classes we baked cornbread within it one winter day.
Eventually we decided to head out, which is when I noticed that the benches by the entrance nearby had been painted in Pan-African colors.

THE FINANCIAL JOURNAL
Bobby Axelrod Visits Childhood Home
By RANDY KORNBLUTH
Billionaire Bobby Axelrod opted for a change of scenery earlier today, leaving his Manhattan penthouse behind to visit the Yonkers neighborhood in which he spent his formative years. Axelrod stopped by his childhood home and met with Savion Williams, 14, and his mother Marissa, the house’s current occupants. The Williams family did not know that Axelrod had grown up there, but welcomed him with open arms.
During his visit, Axelrod and the younger Williams swapped stories about the neighborhood and shot hoops in the driveway. Despite decades between the two childhoods, both realized that not much in Yonkers had changed. The area has yet to experience revitalization on par with city neighborhoods like Lefferts Gardens and Long Island City. Many homes stand vacant or in a state of disrepair.
Axelrod, however, counts his hardships growing up in the sometimes-called sixth borough as blessings. His entrepreneurial spirit recognized inequality in his neighborhood as a window of opportunity. As city snow plows cleared wealthier areas, young Axelrod would take to the streets with a group of kids and shovels—his first business endeavor.
“I have Yonkers to thank for my success,” he said. “And that’s why I’m glad to be back here, returning the favor.”

Estate Condition PLG Tudor With Parquet Floors, Wainscoting, Window Seats Asks $1.95 Million
The listing photos may leave a bit to be desired, but the Tudor style charm of this Prospect Lefferts Garden Historic District row house is hard to deny. With a red tile roof and half timbering, 15 Rutland Road has the picturesque details that made the style so popular in the early 20th century. The spacious house, which has been in the same family since the 1960s, is in estate condition, but…

What’s remarkable about this book is how quick it. He cuts past the verbose film school expository, and gets straight to work, delivering a sample-driven checklist that anyone can follow.
#Garden story developer manuals#
Calhoun's The Guide for Every Screenwriter is one of the most efficient instruction manuals on the craft. The city's Department of Housing Preservation and Development, which owned the remaining portion of the garden, announced in June that it would give the space to the city's Parks Department rather than developing affordable housing there. Kelly Schwarze (Emmy-Winning Director) Geoffrey D. The building plans were first reported by Buzz Buzz Home.Įven if Hoyda moves ahead with his building plans, the volunteer gardeners still won a victory earlier this year when they convinced the city to preserve the other half of the space as permanent parkland. Hoyda and his architectural firm, Kutnicki and Bernstein, did not immediately return calls or emails for comment. Residents had claimed the formerly derelict lots in 1982, building a community garden there that they had maintained for decades. Hoyda infuriated the gardeners in May by building a fence through the middle of the 2,500-square-foot space, sectioning off the portion he owned from the part owned by the city. "We are very concerned and working really hard to come up with a solution," she added. Snaking wooden walkways traverse a terraced garden planted with 700 trees at the heart of this tower development in. "We are meeting as a garden quite frequently and we are still very hopeful that we can have a conversation" with Hoyda, said Kate Temple-West, a Lower East Side resident and writer who is the director of Children's Magical Garden. Terraced gardens echoing paddy fields fill centre of Singapore's Marina One. The plans, which call for a single apartment per floor, have not yet been approved by the DOB, and garden volunteers are still hoping to reach an agreement with Hoyda to preserve the lot as public space. near Stanton Street, which for 31 years was part of the Children's Magical Garden. LOWER EAST SIDE - A six-story building could soon rise on a Lower East Side lot that until recently was part of a community garden, records show.ĭeveloper Serge Hoyda has submitted plans to the Department of Buildings for a new 70-foot residential building at 157 Norfolk St.
Crown Heights, Prospect Heights & Prospect-Lefferts Gardens.
For example, a 10-story high-rise building and a two-story luxury garden.
Cobble Hill, Carroll Gardens & Red Hook Multiple condominiums also make sense when the developer's initial single.

Travis Scott Air Jordan 6 connection between
Within the basketball landscape, we wanted to create a new language for light, says Jacqueline Lefferts, Jordan Brand Lead Materials Designer. Basketball unites players in all kinds of court settings. And later this July - on the 9th, to be exact - the silhouette will keep up the momentum with the Dark Iris, which has just been revealed in better detail. Thanks to the late Virgil Abloh as well as upcoming partnerships with Union LA, A Ma Maniere, and J Balvin, 2022 has really become the year of Travis Scott Shoes the Air Jordan 2.
The Soldier IV continued the line's entry into team colorways. Most of the colorway, which bears a strong resemblance to the Air Jordan 4 Zen Master, is actually bereft of loud hues. The guard had a multifaceted journey to the league once he graduated college. The definition of light also relates to designing for the athleticism of Jordan Brand's young roster. Seen here for the first time is an all-new Stealth colorway in a super-crisp white grey colorway.
This year, Nike is supporting more than 20 organizations advancing the LGBTQIA community, with some grants administered by the Charities Aid Foundation of America. The sneakers originally retailed for $110 USD and were designed by Tinker Hatfield. The power of inclusion through an array of perspectives carries into this year's Converse Pride collection, which contains a range of Chuck Travis Scott Sneakers 70 and Chuck Taylor All Star sneakers inspired by the More Color, More Pride flag.
There are 50 variables which may be used to determine which members are awarded Exclusive Access for a given product. The era's famed R&B singers were attending games, singing national anthems at All-Star weekend and creating a clear Travis Scott Air Jordan 6 connection between the spectacle of pro sports and the pulse of culture. Inspired by Jordan's infamous Black Cat nickname, the silhouette features a holographic jewel at the heel and outsole resembling a panther eye and paw, respectively.
For the first time, the women's Nike Zoom Fly 3 houses a slightly softer sockliner with a higher arch. It was the first LEBRON built with Flywire, technology that debuted in basketball the previous year in the first Hyperdunk, allowing LeBron's latest to be both strong and sleek. Last season's opening-week footwear indulged in the league's generous colorway rules and brought wildly creative designs to the floor, as seen in the Nike By You custom designs led by nine rookies and sophomores.
We received hundreds of applications for Community Grants, and every single one of them was a reminder of the unique impact and powerful personal connections local community efforts can make happen. The Air Jordan 1 Mid is still the brand's champion, leading the charge through sheer numbers. Each of those Soldier games from LeBron were so dominant, the images of the stripped-down, strapped shoes are inseparable from the performances themselves.

Bay Ridge Bungalow With Garage and Three Other Open Houses to See, Starting at $1.1 Million
Our picks for open houses to check out this weekend are found in Clinton Hill, Prospect Lefferts Gardens, Bay Ridge and Midwood. They range in price from $1.1 million to $1.885 million. In Clinton Hill, a pre-Civil War Greek Revival-Italianate-Gothic hybrid has seen hard use but may hide some salvageable surprises such as plaster ornament and wide-plank floor boards under drywall and plastic…

This July, we’re examining how artists in the Brooklyn Museum collection have dissected liberty, as a monument and as a concept, in the context of the United States.
The legacy of slavery continues to inform how we come to know space and place. Nona Faustine animates erased histories of slavery by using her own body as a medium to connect the present to the past. In this image from her White Shoes series, Faustine situates herself at The Lefferts House in Brooklyn, located in what is now Prospect Park, where stolen and enslaved Africans lived in bondage. The white shoes represent the sexual economy that marked enslaved Black women as commodified flesh—the simultaneous regulation and violation of their reproductive capacity under the system of slavery.
