Summary:  When Tup murdered General Tiplar during a battle, Anakin Skywalker and Captain Rex dispatched Ahsoka, Fives, and Yara to solve the mystery that was plaguing the Clone Army. Meanwhile, Senator Padme Amidala contacted Commander Fox, Commander Tori, Riyo Chuchi, and Dipper to help her continue investigating the death of Palpatine, suspecting that Dooku was behind the evil plot. But when Dooku send an ISB agent to stop them, the team had to race against time to search for the truth, which could alter the course of the galaxy.
————————————————————————————
Massaging her daughter’s hair with her fingers, Tori hummed a cheerful tune as Frieda was sitting inside the bathtub, splashing water with both her tiny hands. With two candles lighting up the room, the guest bathroom had a sweet scent, which comforted the clone commander.
Curling herself inside the warm, foamy bathtub was a privilege that Tori had, and it would be the last time she could enjoy a bath like this. Usually, she had to take an open shower with Frieda and her sisters and she had to be quick about it. Now, she could take as much time as she needed without rushing through her relaxation.
It was difficult for her to sleep through the night, despite the long journey from the base. She found her queen bed to be soft, unlike her stony bunk bed. Tori and Friedahad to share with Rex, who does everything he can to drive her crazy. She could even recall the time where Rex placed a dead spider on her pillow, which pissed her off the entire day. He apologised eventually, but that didn’t stop her from cussing at him.
It’s been a while since she felt peace, though she’ll have to go back to Anaxes once the mission was done, where she had to deal with Rex and the rest of the 101st Battalion, who always created chaos whenever they had the chance. Flover, especially, would put a dead rat in Dipper’s helmet, which caused him to scream until the other units could hear them.
Flover was also the reason Tori would get a headache whenever they’re in the battlefield, as the blue-haired clone would rush towards the enemies, which unfortunately became her hubris in the Battle of Coruscant. Tori wasn’t there, but she wished Flover was still alive. As mischievous as she was, the commander felt odd without her presence. Even Dipper missed her.
“Mama,” Frieda spoke, holding a rubber ducky in her hands. “Are you okay?”
“I am, baby,” Tori replied, focusing on her daughter. “I was just thinking, that’s all.”
“What are you thinking about, Mama?”
“I was thinking about your Aunt Flover. She would have loved you very much if she was still here.”
“Who’s Aunt Flover?” the little girl asked. “And where is she?”
“Well, Aunt Flover was one of my vod’ika, and she had blue hair and loves to joke around with the others, especially Uncle Dipper. She and Uncle Dipper were like cheese and crackers. Unfortunately, Aunt Flover died in a fight six months ago, and I miss her very much.”
Frieda hung her head low as her smile disappeared. “Mama, what will happen if you die?”
Tori blinked as she hugged her knees, wondering what she could answer. She was no stranger to her daughter’s odd questions, but this one struck a chord in her mind. There were many speculations about life after death, but the commander wasn’t sure what to believe in. But she can’t leave her daughter hanging. Frieda will feel as if she had done something wrong.
“There are many beliefs about what happened after death,” Tori tried to answer. “Some believe that you become one with the Force, some also believe that you either go to the Garden or the Pitfire based on your actions, and some believe that you’re resurrected into another life. The truth is, there is no right or wrong answer to what happened after death. There’s just many possibilities for you to believe, that’s all.”
“Well, what do you believe, Mama?”
“I believe that if I die, then I just fade into oblivion, that’s all.”
“Will you be forgotten, Mama?” cried Frieda. “I don’t want you to disappear forever. I can’t live without you.”
Tori stroked her puffy wet cheeks, smiling. “As long as someone keeps my memory alive, then I’m never truly dead. I wish I could live forever, but that would be impossible. We all have to go, eventually.”
“Do you know when you will die, Mama?”
She shook her head. “No one knows when our time is up. That’s why we shouldn’t take life for granted. In order to be happy throughout your life, we should appreciate every moment we spend with someone we love, whether it’s big or small.”
“Then I will never forget you, Mama,” Frieda promised, as she climbed on Tori’s lap and hugged her. “I’ll do everything I can to remember you.”
Tori hugged her back with tears in her eyes. The last thing she wanted was to make Frieda an orphan. The latter had survived in the streets for a while and Tori does not want her little girl to go through that hardship ever again. Tori had to make sure she lived to see the last day of war.
As she cradled Frieda with her arms, there was a thunderous knock on the door. “Are you done?” Fox shouted. “You’ve been in there forever.”
“Damn you, Foxy,” she cursed, as she got out from the bathtub, with a five-year-old in her arms. “I was having a wonderful moment just now.”
“Whatever, just get changed,” ordered the Marshal Commander. “We have a mission to complete. Also, it’s Fox, not Foxy.”
“Oh please. I bet you were also soaking in the bathtub with Riyo too.”
Silence filled outside her bathroom door. As Tori and Frieda wrapped themselves with a fuzzy towel, Fox finally spoke after a few minutes. “Just hurry, goddamit.”
She snorted, draining the tub. If he can have a nice, romantic moment with Riyo, then I’m also entitled to have a bubble bath with Frieda as well. God, what a sly, cunning fox.
Walking out of the bathroom door, they headed inside their room and changed into the same outfits they wore yesterday, except it was dry cleaned by Padmé. Despite sweating underneath the pink dress, Tori felt as if she had just bought them from a store.
She also wore the same white ribbon as well and applied makeup on her face to look pretty. Those makeup set belonged to Padmé, but the latter was happy to let her use them. Her foundations and powders, however, don’t match her skin, so Tori just put on her eyeshadow, eyeliner, and a hint of lipstick instead.
Her cat eyeliner may not be perfect, but Tori could raise her head as she glanced at her reflections in the mirror. Who the hell gave me permission to make me this beautiful?
“Tori, are you done?” Fox banged on the door. “Come on, we have to get going.”
“I’ll be there, Foxy,” she complained. “It’s not like I’m late, anyway.”
“5 minutes or I’m leaving you behind.”
“I hate you,” she blew a raspberry, as she lifted Frieda with her arms and rushed towards the living room, where everyone was geared up for a stealth mission.

————————————————————————————
Gazing at the shimmering blue moon, Fives sat on the balcony of the guest room all by himself, with tears dried up in his eyes. It was past midnight, and he had trouble sleeping on his warm bed. His surroundings were serene, with less crowd wondering in the city square and the lights cut off.
The stars above him were shining as bright as a gem, though the ARC Trooper was too focused on the plain balcony floor instead. He always enjoyed the stars in the dark sky, though it doesn’t feel the same right now. I could have died instead of him, Fives thoughts, leaning against the wall. I could have saved him back there. Why did I let him die?
As he buried his face between his knees, Fives heard the sliding door opened behind him, prompting him to lift his face and found Yara standing there, wrapped in her thick sweater and house slippers. “Oh, hey Yara.”
“I see you have a problem sleeping,” Yara spoke, as she approached him and sat beside him.
“What is sleep anyway, when someone just died today?” he let out a sniffle from his nose.
“I’m sorry, Fives,” she placed her arms around him. “I miss Tup too. I thought he was going to make it, but looks like it didn’t go as plan.”
“What do you mean, it didn’t go as planned? We had everything under control, but somehow, we had to lose him. God, why do the good ones always have to die too soon?”
“Fives, we did all we can to save him, but in the end, we have to surrender to the Angel of Death. We can never escape our fate, no matter how much we tried. Sure, we could have brought Tup earlier and somehow, he’s still dead.”
“I know we can’t escape death, Yara!” Fives snapped, pounding his fist on the balcony. “But for goodness’ sake, can’t you just be more sensitive?”
“Fives, I am being sensitive,” Yara shouted back, standing on her ground. “I’m just saying that there was nothing we could do to prevent Tup’s death, that’s all.”
“Tup was always so healthy. He was running around the fields and taking down every battle droid in sight. And then something struck him, and now he’s not here with us anymore. Tup is gone, and we never even got to say goodbye to him. I never got to tell him how much I loved him and how sorry I was for all the hurtful things I did to him. You don’t know what it was like, Yara. You’ve never experienced that, so it was easier for you to say that.”
“Easy, my ass,” she retorted. “I’m just as sad as you are for Tup, but that you have to tell me how I never experienced that kind of pain was the most fucked up thing for you ever said to me.”
“Oh, really?” he mocked, crossing his arms. “Then tell me how sad you are right now, cause you seem pretty fine, if you ask me.”
“You son of a bitch! Didn’t you see me bursting into tears when Dr. Urakchaevy broke the news to us? Oh wait, you didn’t notice that cause you were too shocked to even do anything about it.”
“So now I can’t get shocked when someone told me a close friend of mine died? Is that what I’m hearing, Yara?”
She bobbed her head, fighting her tears from her eyes. “You told me how I wasn’t sad enough for Tup’s death, so now I’m saying that to make you feel empathy, which is something you’re never good at, anyway.”
“What does empathy have to do with this?” Fives asked, his voice laced with redness. “Tell me, Yara. How cold I am to you right now?”
“You’re worse than Commander Fox,” sobbed Yara. “At least he understood what Riyo was feeling. But you assume that everyone else grief as the same way as you, which is a jerk move, actually.”
“Since when?”
She slapped her own forehead and let out a groan. “Just now, you told me I’m being too insensitive to you and said that I don’t know how it was like losing someone I loved very much. How brain dead are you, Fives?”
“I don’t give a shit whether you call me brain dead, really, I don’t. But for heaven’s sake, can’t you just use your head for once? You may be well with the emotional aspects of things, but with actually getting things done, you always jump to conclusions. That’s what you are.”
“How do I always jump into conclusion, cause the last I checked, I was correct when the Empire wants Tup for a reason? Am I right or am I wrong?”
Fives rubbed his temples as he turned around before continuing the argument between them. “That’s the only time you were right. Most of the time, you were always screwing up things for everyone else. I mean, remember when we were training back on Kamino and you woke up later than usual? All of us had to be subjugated to gruelling punishments because of you.”
“Dude, that happened a long time ago. Besides, you weren’t a saint yourself when we were still in Domino Squad. You were always fighting with Echo every single day and I could barely sleep because of that. So who’s fault is that, Fives?”
“Well, Echo and I got along with each other, so I don’t see the point of you bringing that up right now,” his voice trembled. “Besides, I’m not the reason the rest of the Domino Squad perished at Rishi station. It was your fault that Hevy, Droidbait, and Cutup died back then.”
Yara clenched her fist tighter, holding her breath in her chest. “Hevy sacrificed himself on Rishi moon. We tried persuading him to come along, but somehow, he wanted to do his duty as a soldier, and he died because of that. Droidbait and Cutup, on the hand, weren’t so lucky, and sure, we can grief on how we could save him, but there was nothing we can do. But Echo, well, you could have saved him but you let him die in the Citadel.”
Fives’ eyes widened as he took a few steps backwards, gripping on the balcony. “I’m sorry, but what did you say?”
“You let Echo die on Lola Sayu, and you did nothing to stop that from happening,” she uttered a cruel sentence towards him. “Echo was a kind soul, but you let him die in the hands of the Separatists. Honestly, if he was still here, he would be really disappointed in you, Fives. He would look at you and wonder why are you still alive. That’s what he would do right now.”
He blinked as he gazed at Yara’s narrowed eyes, before bobbing his head and sigh. Without saying a word to his sister, he headed back inside the guest room, leaving the ARC Trooper all alone on the balcony, shivering in coldness. Maker, what have I done?

Meanwhile, Senator Padme Amidala contacted Commander Fox, Commander Tori, Riyo Chuchi, and Dipper to help her continue investigating the death of Palpatine, suspecting that Dooku was behind the evil plot. But when Dooku send an ISB agent to stop them, the team had to race against time to search for the truth, which could alter the course of the galaxy.
————————————————————————————
Stopping in front of a medical clinic, Fives took a deep breath as he knocked on the door. Yara still clung to his back as Tup was thankfully breathing through his ventilators, though time was not on their side. A tall man in a lab coat and glasses answered the door, glancing at the three of them. “Do you need anything, clone?”
“I need your help,” pleased Fives. “My brother is dying and my sister had a head concussion. Could you do anything to save both of them?”
“I’m sorry, but I don’t serve your kind here,” the male doctor said, as he shut the door in front of their face.
He let out a sigh and continued down the streets, searching for another clinic that would help them. With no credits or chain codes with them, Fives would have no other choice but to ask every health facility he could find to help Tup and Yara.
Yara held her head as she glanced at the street vendors from both corners, who were known for their simple yet scrumptious meal. A Zygerrian woman with sunhat was brewing ice-cold bubble tea for her younger customer, adding a big spoonful of brown sugar syrup for him.
She licked her lips as she turned to the Devaronian man in an apron, who was deep-frying nunas in oil and while sprinkling some hot sauce on fried rice rolls. Her stomach grumbled as she stared at the freshly cooked meal. It’s been hours since she had her last ration stick at base.
Fives noticed Yara looking at the street vendors and gave a pat on her hand. “It’s gonna be alright, vod. I will find someone to treat you and Tup and it will all be over soon, I promise.”
“I don’t think they like clones,” she whined, leaning her head on his shoulder. “I think Tup is going to die, Fives. It would be too late by the time we got help.”
“Don’t say that, Yara, please. Tup will be okay. I promise, we’re going to get help for you and Tup.”
She could only nod as Fives found another clinic by the traditional drugstore, prompting him to have a knock. “Is anyone in there?”
There was no answer. The ARC Trooper gave another knock, only this time, the tenant inside responded by yelling at them. “Fuck off! You’re not welcomed here!”
“Please, Dr. My brother is dying and my sister is having concussions. They will die if they don’t get treated.”
“Don’t you understand Basic? I said, fuck off!”
“What an asshat,” Yara cursed underneath, making her brother snicker. “For someone who went to medical school, he sure needs a lot of work in his down under.”
“Oh, so it’s okay if you make a dick joke?” Fives rolled his eyes. “But somehow, when I make a dick joke, you complain about it? Make it make sense, goddamit!”
“You make a dick joke when we’re in the middle of the mission, plus, your dick joke sucks.”
“Well, you don’t have a penis, so what makes you think your dick jokes are better than mine?”
“Fuck you,” she slapped his cheeks. “I’m ten times smarter than you.”
“Just be grateful that I’m carrying you right now. You could have been walking on your two feet but no, you broke your left arm and you hit your head, and I don’t want you to break any more bones in your body.”
Before Yara could respond, an elderly Togruta woman stepped out of the drugstore, eyeing both of them bickering with each other. She noticed an unconscious Tup strapped on his gurney and clicked her tongue in pity for the clones.
“Um...excuse me,” she called them, waving her hand. “But is he okay?”
Fives turned to Tup, before making eye contact with the purple Togruta and bobbed his head. “My brother’s dying, and my sister’s injured. Could you please help us? They might die if I do nothing.”
“Unfortunately, I cannot help you with your problems,” the old lady shook her head. “But I know someone who will. Her name is Dr. Tiana Urakchaevy. She’s one of the best doctors in town and she will help you and your siblings.”
“Does she accept clone troopers?”
“Dr. Urakchaevy’s clinic is right at the corner, and she will treat anybody, regardless of your species and background.”
“Where’s her clinic?”
“Dr. Urakchaevy’s clinic is right at the corner,” she pointed with her thumbs. “It’s the ones with flowers.”
“Thank you so much, ma’am,” Fives smiled, shaking her hands. “You are a lifesaver.”
“You’re welcome, dear,” the old lady replied as she placed a bottle of ointment on his palm. “Here, take this. This will be useful for your sister.”
He gave her a respectful salute as he journeyed through town, passing by every shop lot along the way. Unlike Kamino, the buildings were painted with myriads of colours, from red to orange, and even mint green. Fives watched the shop owners having an animated conversation with each other, making him think of his brothers and sisters back home.
“You know, Yara, when you and Tup are feeling better, we’ll be drinking together in no time,” he promised, sticking out his pinky. “I know you love cognac, and Tup loves a glass of Shirley Temple, so I’ll pay the tab for the both of you, alright?”
“And then what?” Yara grumbled.
“And then you both can do whatever you want. I’ll let you and Tup choose this time. We can do anything you both wanted to do, like watching that rom-com movie or have a bingo night. I know how much you blush at the male lead in a rom-com.”
“It’s not my fault they’re handsome as hell,” she poked his face. “If they were real, I wouldn’t hesitate to climb them like a tree.”
Fives snorted before clearing his throat. “Well, good luck with that. I bet they would cringe at your dick jokes.”
“Fuck you!”
Rolling his eyes, he held onto Yara and Tup as he arrived at the corner of the town and found a small, humble clinic in front of him. It was a double-storey shop, with magenta bougainvilleas grown in pots, and several pairs of shoes arranged neatly on a shoe rack.
I hope this one is friendly, Fives prayed, as he rang the doorbell. As he looked at his surroundings, the front door opened, revealing a dark-haired woman with dark skin and a yellow sundress, and was holding a bowl of cookie dough and a wooden spoon.
“Good afternoon,” she chirped. “You must be one of Tiana’s patients.”
“Yeah, the old lady by the drugstore sent us here. She told me that Dr. Urakchaevy could help my brother and sister.”
“Well, you can come in and have tea with us,” she invited them inside. “My wife will be with you in a short while.”
“Thank you so much. You’re too kind.”

Holding a flashlight, Dr. Urakchaevy checked her patient’s eyes and noticed her eyes squinted towards the flare. Maria, the Rodian lady, felt her sight were blurry as the doctor found halos around her sparkling eyes, making her frown. This is unusual for a Rodian’s eyes to look like that, she thought, as she jotted down on her datapad.
Dr. Urakchaevy took a deep breath and sat back at her desk, facing Maria with a frown on her face. “I’ve checked your eyes, and it’s terrible. I can reach to the conclusion that you are having cataracts in your eyes.”
“I’m not surprised,” Maria hung her head low, her hands clutched together. “Is there anything you could do to cure my cataract from my eyes? I don’t think I can survive without my eyes.”
“I agree, nobody wants to lose their sight, but as you get older, issues like eye problems and chronic pains are inevitable. Do you have any history with diabetes before?”
“I’m afraid I do. I have been on insulins for years and I had my leg amputated because of gangrene, so maybe this could be the reason my health has worsened over the years. I guess I’m not as young as I used to be.”
Dr. Urakchaevy pouted as she bobbled her head before scribbling a prescription on a piece of paper. “Your appointment date for your surgery will be on Friday. The sooner we get your cataract removed, the sooner you can see clearly like a young woman.”
“Thank you, Doctor,” said Maria, as she got up from her seat and left her office, leaving the doctor alone. Grabbing a tablecloth and a sanitizer, Dr. Urakchaevy wiped every single part of her office as part of standard procedure, making sure her office was hygienic enough for her next patient.
Having worked in a hospital on Coruscant before, the turquoise Theelin had to sanitise both her equipment and patient’s seat to prevent infections. Medical centres treated various diseases, such as common flu, chickenpox, and the infamous Shining Death, which killed hundreds and thousands of patients two decades ago.
At some point, Dr. Urakchaevy was contracted with the virus, but recovered for a month in the hospital. Her wife, Thando, was pacing up and down back home, wondering when she would return. Nobody could visit the hospital ward back then, as doctors and nurses did not want the Shining Death to spread and kill more people.
Tossing her disposable gloves into the bin, the doctor groaned and stretched her back as she stepped out of her office, only to find Fives and Yara seated on a blue chair, with Tup still inside his gurney, breathing through his ventilator. She wasn’t expecting their company, but she was ready to help anyone who stepped into her clinic.
“Good afternoon, Doc,” Fives greeted her with a smile. “I’m Fives, and this is Tup and Yara. I believe you could help us with our situation right now.”
“I’m guessing Liana Halls had sent you here,” estimated Dr. Urakchaevy.
“Who?” Yara raised her eyebrows, gazing at the doctor.
“The medicine lady earlier. Did she send you here?”
“She did, Doc,” she grinned. “It’s a pleasure to meet you.”
Dr. Urakchaevy stood there in silence and eyed Yara and Tup, taking a mental note of their current condition. The former was next to her brother with a dazed eye, munching on her cookies that Thando had baked while holding her forehead. She then glimpsed at Tup, who seemed to be in a critical condition and in a need of medical care.
“How long has he been inside?” she asked the ARC Trooper, agitated.
“Over 5 hours,” he told her. “Can you save him? He looks like he’s dying.”
“Yes, I can,” Dr Urakchaevy nodded, as she gestured to them to hurry inside her office.
Putting on another set of rubber gloves, Fives put down Yara on the doctor’s desk, helped the doctor to unstrap Tup and carried him towards the patient’s bed, before placing a new set of ventilators and a heart monitor beside him. The latter was beeping rapidly as Dr. Urakchaevy squeezed some oxygen for Tup, hoping to stabilise his heart rate.
“How is he, Doc?”
“He’s getting weaker,” she answered him. “Is he having a heart attack or something? He looks pretty young to have these health conditions.”
“It’s complicated,” Fives stuttered, rubbing the back of his neck. “We don’t know to explain this.”
“If you don’t tell me, it would be very difficult for me to save your brother. Besides, I’ve dealt with strange diseases throughout my entire career. I’m sure this isn’t as bad as the Shining Death.”
Taking a deep breath, Fives explained everything that happened earlier on Ringo Vinda. From how Tup was acting strange before the fight, how he shot Master Tiplee to death, and how he acted aggressive when he stared at another Jedi, without sparing a single detail about the incident. “We think it was a virus developed by the Separatist, but we couldn’t find anything through the scans. That’s why we came to see you instead, since you’re the best doctor in town.”
Dr. Urakchaevy blinked as she slumped on a black chair and crossed her legs. She stared at the floor for a moment, processing what she had heard from Fives. Out of all the patients she had treated, she had never thought she would come across a clone trooper until today. “Are you sure Tup isn’t having a case of PTSD, cause aggression is part of the symptom, you know.”
Fives shook his head, crossing his arms. “Tup, Yara, and I have been through many battles together and he never acted this way before, really. He’s been through a lot with us since Umbara. It was the deadliest battle for a rookie like him.”
“I see. Well then, I’ll have to apologise since I have never treated a clone trooper before, hence I’m only observing based on my experience.”
“No worries, Doc,” he assured her, lowering his voice. “I’m sorry for shouting at you. It’s been a stressful day for all of us, inclusing you.”
“Apology accepted,” Dr. Urakchaevy gave a slight smile. “Did you see a medic before you came to me?”
Fives gave a nod. “We did, Doctor. Apparently, the Jedi and the medic said that it could be a virus developed by the Empire to control clones like us. There were rumours about it, and I think it could be true.”
Dr. Urakchaevy could only burst into laughter as she heard his statement before composing herself. “This is the first time I’ve heard of a virus that can cause aggression in a patient. Honestly, it is the most absurd thing someone has told me, really. I don’t remember learning that in medical school.”
“You mean a virus doesn’t do that?”
“No, they don’t. I’ve studied and treated viral infections on patients and I have never seen a patient acting aggressive solely for that reason.”
“Well, maybe the Empire developed one in their fancy lab. It could be possible, considering they tried to take Tup away.”
“Even if the Empire had produced a virus in their lab, the first symptoms of any virus would be runny nose, coughs, fever, and lethargy. Did Tup have those symptoms before the battle?”
Fives denied. “He was perfectly healthy. It was unlike my brother to kill a Jedi General, you know. He’s not the kind to get into bar fights easily.”
“Yeah, he seemed like a sweet man,” Dr. Urakchaevy chuckled, before moving on with the next question. “What about his brain? Does he have any brain problems?”
“Not that I know of, though it could be possible. After all, he was rubbing his head before the fight, so that could be it.”
“In that case, I will start a brain scan for Tup,” she stood up, along with Fives. “What about your sister, Yara? Is she having the same problem as well?”
“She broke her left arm and hit her head after the ship crash,” Fives said. “I had to carry her all the way here since she looked dizzy.”
“I’ll get my wife to deal with her. In the meantime, you need some rest for yourself. It’s been a long journey for all of you.”
“What about Tup? Will he be okay?”
“He will,” Dr. Urakchaevy comforted him, placing her hand on his shoulder. “I’ll do everything I can to save him.”

TW: graphic depiction of violence, blood, gore, and child death
——————————————————————————————
Rains of blaster fires poured from the opposite side of town as the 197th Battalion and the local Hocuran army were firing at each other. There were civilians screaming in the background as they fled for their lives, searching for a haven to take cover from the bloodshed.
A little girl who was playing in the streets had her head and arms severed from her body, her tattered doll lying next to her. An old man with a pineapple shirt and a walking stick earlier had a glass inserted in his right eye, his torso ripped apart. A young, Twi’lek woman with high heels and pencil skirt was soaked in blood and pus, her face burned in half. The vendor who sold sugar candy to children was nowhere to be seen, except for his hawker stall, which was ripped into pieces.
The tall office buildings were abandoned as soon as the fighting had begun, while the row of shophouses had its inhabitants crouching underneath their tables and chairs, closing their eyes and covering their ears from the intense noise outside. Curious tookas scurried by the alleyway and crawled towards the windowpane, glancing at the battle from above with their head tilted sideways.
“Enemy fires at 3 o’clock!” Commander Mina yelled, as she blasted at the Hocuran troops in front of her.
“Yes, sir,” Nygma responded, as he gunned down an enemy behind the barrier, made from the rubbles of the buildings.
“Keep firing, troopers!” Raul ordered. “We need to complete this mission!”
“I wasn’t expecting this much Imperial reinforcements,” the commander commented. “We need Commander Thire and the rest of the Corrie Guard to help us with this mess.”
“I think they’re currently preoccupied with more troops on the other side of the city.”
“Of course they are, vod. I was just being sarcastic.”
“Well, where’s the fun in that?” Beetle laughed, as he lifted his rotary blaster and took them down one-by-one, making them drop like flies. “Take that, you fucking flanker!”
“Well, someone’s excited.”
“Just like old times, Mina.”
“Yeah, just like old times,” the other Mina replied.
Beetle slapped the top of his helmet, realising his mistake. “I forgot there are two people in this battalion named Mina.”
“And there are other Minas in the other battalions,” she pointed out, as she flung an explosive from her hands. “Like the one in the Coruscant Guard, or was it the 501st?”
“I’m pretty sure it’s the 501st Legion,” Midnight shrugged, joining in their conversation mid-battle. “Also, I wasn’t expecting this much of reinforcements at all.”
“Nobody does,” Commander Mina shouted, crushing the soldier’s neck underneath her foot, leaving him screaming in pain. “But we’ll have to keep going for the sake of our mission.”
Nygma sighed and shook his head as he went on with what he was doing, ignoring his sore palms and shoulders. An enemy soldier was sprinting towards him, holding a charged baton in his hands. Without hesitation, the seasoned clone trooper raised his blaster and shot him in the eye, causing him to land on his face and bleed.
The sight of the thick, crimson blood made his lips squeamish as he covered his nose from the metallic smell. His head spun as he glanced at the popping veins on his neck. The thought of firing against someone with flesh never popped up in his mind until he felt his heartbeat with his hands.
I don’t feel good about this, Nygma lowered his weapon.
Raul and Mina were engrossed with taking down the Imperials in front of them when they noticed their fellow soldiers staring at the dead man, whose gloves were stained with his blood. “Come on, Nygma,” the latter shouted. “We can do this.”
“I don’t know, commander,” he cried, dropping on his knees. “What if we’re the ones in the wrong? What if we’re the bad guys in this whole conflict?”
The former’s eyebrows drooped, his lips curved downwards. “I understand how you’re feeling, but we can’t back out now, Nygma. The day isn’t over yet.”
“Will we be alright?”
Raul smiled softly and held out his hand. “You are a good soldier, Nygma. I believe in you.”
Before he could say something, Mina heard a rattling sound from afar, prompting her to turn around. “We have a tank at 12 o’clock,” she warned them.
“Take cover!” Raul yelled, as he dragged Mina and took cover behind the barricade. As the rest of the clones did the same, the tank began firing a missile in that direction, leaving a tremendous explosion that crumbled the bakery beside them.
Blood flowed from his ears as he stared at Mina with watery eyes. “Raul, are you there?” he heard her faint voice in the background, along with his soldiers moaning in pain.
“I think he’s blank, commander,” the other Mina told her.
“Yeah, I can tell,” she said, doing a headcount of her troops. “Wait, where’s Bouncy and Nygma?”
“I haven’t heard a thing from Bouncy, but I’m pretty sure Nygma was here a few minutes ago.”
The superior officer groaned. “Contact Bouncy immediately! And get me Commander Thire and Commander Stone too. We need some help here!”
“Yes, commander!”
“Beetle, locate Nygma right now. The tank is still there and we need to-”
“Too late!” he cuts her off, as he points at the monstrosity, which was about to blast them into pieces.
Without a word, she pulled her brother closer and ducked as the machine shot another missile. The others rushed towards their side as Raul wrapped his arms around them, looking up at the copper tank, which was manned by the Hocuran soldiers. Mina shielded herself with her hands as sharp debris of stones bouncing towards her helmet.
She cocked her gun as she scanned her surroundings when she saw a familiar clone trooper’s helmet spilling blood on the ground. The commander picked it up with a cold pulse and a severed head slid off, belonging to Nygma. With his eyes staring at her, Mina took a few steps backward as she dropped her comrade’s head on the ground, leaving a squish sound.
“Oh, Maker,” Raul’s heart convulsed. “Where is the rest of his body?”
“What happened to him?” the other Mina gasped and turned around, only to find Bouncy standing behind her the entire time. “And where the fuck have you been?”
“Do you have any idea how bad I am with direction?” he placed his hands on his hips. “Also, what the fuck just happened here?”
She could only point at Nygma’s detached head, making him gagged. As Mina let out a shriek, the tanks blasted another missile towards them.
***
Holding both her pistols with both hands, Odd Eye shot another soldier as Aaron stood behind her, his arms quivering. “How long to the main room?” he asked, covering his ears from the high-pitched blaster shots in his surroundings.
“We should be there in half an hour,” she responded to his question, handing him one of her weapons. “Here, in the meantime, try to make yourself useful for us, will ya?”
“But I hardly used a blaster before. I don’t think I’ll be useful for this kind of mission.”
“Well, have you ever played basketball?”
“Yeah, I used to play basketball, but what does it have to do with shooting?”
“Shooting a guy is like shooting a ball in the hoops, but different. You just need to pay close attention and pull the trigger.”
One of his eyebrows arched. “Seriously? It’s that easy?”
“Yeah, now go! We don’t have much time.”
Taking a deep breath, Aaron aimed at the man who was tackling Bram with his electrostaff. Pulling the trigger with his shaky fingers, the former griped in agony as he held his wounded shoulder, giving a chance for the clone to finish him with his blaster.
“Thank you,” Bram said. “Looks like I owe you one.”
“No worries, trooper. I’m just doing my job.”
Erina smiled at the middle-aged man as she fired at the enemy behind her without turning around. “Glad you could join us, Captain. You could be one of us, you know.”
“I don’t think I’m cut out for the military,” Aaron let out a chuckle. “Besides, I’m happier when I’m working for inventory.”
“We could use some help for inventory. Pay won’t be much, but you’ll get to do more for the Republic.”
“I don’t work for the Republic anymore, and I hope you respect that, thank you very much.”
She pressed her lips together, bobbing her head. “Alright then. I respect your choice.”
“I appreciate that, General,” he said with a stiff lip, as he shot his fellow soldier, who was about to ambush the Republic officer.
“Could have given me a warning.”
“I’ll do my best, General.”
“General!” Tarot called. “The coast is clear.”
Erina gave a thumbs up at him and led them towards the lift, which could only fit a few of them. “So, what’s the plan now?” Bram, Draco, and Tarot exchanged a glance with each other.
“Odd Eye, Aaron, Tarot, Draco, and I will head to the tower,” she informed them. “The rest will guard this lift. Am I clear?”
“Sir, yes, sir,” the 666th Battalion said in unison.
The five of them stepped inside the lift without saying a word. Odd Eye rubbed her belly while Tarot shuffled his cards and pulled out a Reversed Justice from his deck, leaving him speechless. “Everything alright?” his commander asked, noticing his gesture.
He cleared his throat and showed the cards to her.
“Oh, fuck,” whispered Odd Eye. “You mean to tell me someone is deceiving us?”
“I’m afraid so.”
Draco rubbed his clammy fingers together as he glanced at Erina and Aaron, who had their eyebrows furrowed. “Let’s hope this whole thing doesn’t turn into a trap.”
“It better not be,” Erina shook her head as the lift door opened, only to be welcomed with a load of ticking bombs.
“It’s an ambush!” Aaron yelled, as he pressed the button to shut the lift, only for the entire headquarters to shatter.

————————————————————————————
“Alright, so how do we break in, General?” Odd Eye questioned her, sitting beside Aaron, who was gazing on the floor.
“It’s simple,” Erina answered, showing the visual of the Imperial Headquarters. “Our friend here will give the passcode to the guards, and then they’ll let us in. Once it’s done, we will be ordered to head out, and that’s when we’ll strike.”
“You won’t kill me, right?” Aaron asked, frowning. “I really don’t want to die, general.”
The hijabi general shook her head. “Don’t worry, sir. We won’t do anything to you. Once we’re done with the mission, we will free you, okay?”
“I hope so, general, cause I have a family back home and I don’t want to leave them.”
“We won’t kill you,” Odd Eye assured him, placing her hand on his shoulder. “You have my words, Aaron.”
He glanced at her pregnant belly and wondered how a clone commander like her could still fight in the fields while carrying her unborn child. She could have stayed behind and rested before her due date, but instead, she risked herself for an oppressive organisation that treats her like an object.
“When you were telling me you lost your lover in a battle, were you lying to me?”
“All of it was true. I did lose someone I love dearly, and I’m still mourning for his death, even though it’s been months.”
“Were you also planning to kill me too?”
Odd Eye pouted her lips, avoiding his sharp gaze. “That was part of the plan, but when I got to know you more, I felt guilty for having to hurt you, so I thought by sparing you, at least you’ll get to see your husband and your two daughters again.”
Aaron turned to Erina with bulging eyes, who lifted her shoulder in response. “We don’t believe in killing people.”
“Yeah, well, tell that to the clone troopers that decimated our boys then! They’re the ones who decided that invading us would be okay.”
“What do you mean?” Tarot joined in, listening to their conversation the entire time. “When did that happen?”
“Back when the war first began,” Aaron’s voice boomed. “I wasn’t there to see it personally, but I had a friend who was part of our local defense force. We were planning to hang out and watch a movie together, but when our superior broke the news to us, I was heartbroken. I didn’t even know how to react at that time. I didn’t even say goodbye to Leslie.”
Tarot approached him as he shuffled a deck for him, pulling out a Two of Cups reversed. “I’m sorry for your loss, sir. I understand how you feel.”
“Do you, trooper?”
He sat there in silence, unsure of what to say. Like the cards, there was tension in the room. Doubt clouded both Odd Eye’s and Erina’s mind, wondering if they were really fighting for freedom. The former couldn’t defend the actions of her siblings who killed Aaron’s comrades. It was something that crossed the line for her.
Erina felt the same way as Odd Eye as she thought about her family back on Lothal, waiting for their daughter to return to their arms. The Lothcats purring on her lap, the fresh breeze that makes the prairie grass bounce, and the view of the sunset from the top of a cliff, she would do anything to get them back.
While she’s grateful to Allah that she’s still alive, Aaron’s best friend, Leslie, doesn’t have the chance to experience the peaceful side of life ever again. “I’m sorry for your loss, Aaron.”
That was the only thing that Erina could think of. The 666th Battalion hung their heads low as they placed their hands on their chest, uttering a silent prayer for their enemy’s close friend. “May Leslie find peace in a garden, where he feels only happiness in his heart,” Draco uttered.
The Imperial officer’s face softened, bobbing his head towards the clone commander. “Thank you, trooper. I know he is in a much better place.”
As Erina gave him a soft smile, their driver, Astra, and Bram shouted from the cockpit. “General, we’re almost at our destination.”
“Roger that, trooper,” she replied, straightening her posture. “Alright team, stand by your position. Draco, alert General Kenobi and Aaron, I’ll be escorting you to the cockpit for access. Can I expect your full cooperation?”
“Yes, general. I won’t let you down.”
As two Imperial Troop Transport arrived at the gate, Erina and Aaron were standing in the cockpit and received a transmission from one of the B1 battle droids, who was in charge of security. The latter adjusted the collar of his uniform and answered the call, with the former hiding from the corner.
“This is LS-2097 requesting a permit to enter,” he said in his formal tone.
There were no answers. Aaron glanced at her as he tightened his sweaty fist at the humidity in his surroundings. It was unusual for the droids to reply this slowly, considering how efficient they were in the past, but then again, there was a power outage in Mendes. There should be an emergency power in the Imperial Headquarters left. This is taking longer than I expected. Maybe I should try again.
“This is LS-2097 requesting a permit to enter,” he repeated his instructions again. “We have arrived with the cargo after a slight delay on our way here.”
“Looks like the 197th Battalion was successful in their mission,” Astra muttered, tapping her fingers on the steering.
“I can tell,” Bram told her. “There’s no power in the city right now. This will be easier than I expected.”
“Keep it down,” Erina shushed them, putting her index finger in front of her lips.
Ten minutes had passed, and there were still no answers from the headquarters. Aaron checked the time on his watch and sighed as he wiped the sweat from his forehead. It’s been hours since he was held hostage, and he wants to get this over with.
Finally, there was an answer from an officer, who was assigned at the last minute. “LS-2097, you are now clear to enter. Please proceed to Bay 5 for inspection.”
“Thank you, officer. LS-2097 out.”
As he hung up, both their transports entered the Imperial Headquarters, which was once a Republic outpost beforehand. The white paint on the building that was once part of Republic pride was now replaced with the oppressive grey colour. The trees and bushes that used to grow along the field were stripped away with anti-ship guns and cannons, along with barbed wires on the threatening walls.
The pride and glory that was held by the Republic were peeled off as greed and cruelty are now the ruler of Hocura. Erina couldn’t believe her eyes as she saw the view from the front window. *Is this what the planet succumbed to? How the hell is Aaron okay with this?*
“Bay 5 isn’t far,” he informed them. “You just need to continue straight and then turn right once you see a signboard.”
“Roger that,” Astra answered, doing what she was told. “And should we inform General Kenobi that we’re heading to Bay 5?”
“Yes, please,” Erina said, turning around. “Let’s check on the troops.”
Aaron bobbed his head in response and followed her and noticed Odd Eye and the rest of the clones putting on their helmet, ready for battle. “Is everyone ready?”
“We’re all loaded, general,” Tarot responded. “We’re just waiting for orders.”
“Alright, so once we’re in Bay 5, General Kenobi and his troops will engage with the enemy so that we are clear to enter the Imperial Headquarters. Once we’re inside, we’ll deal with the troops inside until we have total control of the building. Any questions?”
Aaron raised his hands. “Are we killing anybody?”
Odd Eye shook her head. “No, we’re taking prisoners for this one. There won’t be any killing, unless it’s for self-defense.”
Before he could raise another question to the general, Erina’s comlink beeped, prompting her to answer. “General Kenobi, it’s a pleasure to hear from you.”
“It’s a pleasure too, general,” Obi-Wan responded from the second transport. “Are your troops ready?”
“Yes, general, we are standing by to take over the Imperial Headquarters. What about you and the 212th?”
“We’ll give you the signal once we arrive at Bay 5. I have a feeling that things may or may not go as smoothly as we planned.”
“Don’t it always?” she chuckled. “Well then, may the Force be with all of us.”
As soon as she hung up, two Imperial Troop Transport arrived at Bay 5, where they noticed a row of soldiers standing in a straight line, loaded with blasters. There were no signs of droids and an officer in a grey uniform was standing in front of his small army, making him gulp. As far as he knows, the Empire hardly utilises living soldiers.
“I got a bad feeling about this.”
“Please don’t say that,” Odd Eye told him off. “Things will go as planned, okay?”
Aaron held his tongue as he and the rest of the Republic forces faced the sliding door, waiting to get out of the cramped space he was standing in. As soon as he heard blasters firing from outside, the 666th Battalion ran out of their vehicle, taking him along.
Deflecting the blaster fires with his lightsaber, Obi-Wan Kenobi stood in front of the vehicle as the clones were shooting at the armoured officers, who were barely trained to take down a Jedi. They knew the Republic was coming, but they didn’t expect a sheer force taking them down. If only there were more troops.
“Blast them!” Cody shouted as he shot the enemy in the chest.
“Yes, sir,” Boil saluted, as he did what he was told. The enemy quickly dropped like flies as Faven and Hyewon pulled the trigger from their weapons.
“Well, this was easier than I expected,” the latter commented, smiling underneath her helmet.
“Don’t celebrate too early,” she barked. “Not all of us will make it out of this planet.”
“Right, of course, Faven.”
The Jedi covered his nose as he glanced at the 666th, who just stepped out of their vehicles. “General, the coast is clear. You and your team can proceed.”
“Roger that, General Kenobi,” Erina nodded. “And good luck.”
“We’ll take care of the rest. Just go!”
“You’ve heard the Jedi,” Odd Eye yelled. “Let’s get to the tower.”
The purple battalion raced through the Imperial Complex, leaving Obi-Wan and the 212th in charge. Cody turned to him, awaiting instructions from the general. “What do we do now, General?”
Before he could answer him, Obi-Wan heard an army marching in their direction, placing him in a defensive mode. “Get into position. Imperial reinforcements have arrived.”

“Mama, are we gonna be okay?” Frieda asked, clinging to her shoulders. “I’m very scared.”
Tori rubbed her child’s back, massaging the back of her head. “It’s gonna be alright, sweetie. We’ll be out here in no time.”
“But what if we die?”
She pressed her lips, not knowing how to answer Frieda’s questions. “Don’t worry, okay? We’ll be going home in no time, and when we get home, we’re gonna read a bedtime story with your stuffed toys? You like that, don’t you?”
Frieda bobbed her head. “I like bedtime stories, Mama. Can you read the ones where Joy and Anna went to Candyland?”
“Of course, sweetie. We can read about Joy and Anna’s adventure in Candyland. I know you love them very much.”
“Mama, can I ask you something?”
“Yeah, sure,” Tori smiled, tapping her nose with her finger. “Can you ask me anything?”
“Will that mean lady hurt us, like how she hurt Uncle Foxy? I don’t want anything to happen to you too, Mama.”
The commander sat there in silence, glancing at the empty chair in front of her. It felt like hours since Lenora left them alone in their cell, grabbing something for their interrogation. There were no torture devices or weapons inside the closet-sized room. Instead, there were only chairs and a rectangular table.
Tori pondered about Fox, who was quivering when he returned to his shared cell. If there were no signs of torture device here, then Lenora may have used other methods to torture the Marshall Commander. Whatever she had shown her, it was too much for him to handle. And if it was too much for her, then it could be worse for Tori and Frieda.
Frieda was wiggling her arms as she broke free from her grasps, climbing on top of the table. The commander spread her arms as she watched the child squealing, hoping she does not have a nasty fall like the incident with Lira, where the then 10-year-old injured herself after slipping from the cliff during a mission.
It wasn’t a high cliff, so thankfully, Lira managed to survive the fall, though she injured both her arms and legs. Tori never slept during her general’s recovery period, nor did she eat or drink. She couldn’t even speak to Rex or Cody at all, and even when she did, it was only one or two words. It was only until Lira could get up from her bed was Tori able to snap herself back to reality.
If only the twins were still here, she thought, staring at Frieda, who was jumping in joy. They would know what to do in these kinds of situations.
“Mama,” Frieda called her. “I’m going to jump right now. Can you catch me?”
“Of course, sweetie,” Tori nodded as she held out her arms towards her. “Just ready when you are.”
Before Frieda was able to make the jump, Lenora burst in with a tray of chocolate chip cookies and two glasses of milk, making the little girl hug her knees on top of the table. Grabbing the kid, Tori let her sit on her lap and wrapped her arms around her shoulder, her face tensed. She was enjoying her little moment with Frieda, but the ISB agent had to show up.
“I see you both had your little fun,” Lenora glimmered, as she sat opposite them and placed their cookies and milk on the table. “But a deal is a deal, and you have to give me something in return for my service, of course.”
“You didn’t do shit, so why should I do the same for you?”
Lenora frowned. “I treat you with decency and you repay me by being rude? I never even hurt you and your friends and I even bought some cookies and milk, just in case you both are hungry. You should be thankful that I was the one who’s questioning you right now. If it’s Tarkin, you and your daughter won’t be sitting comfortably in this room right now.”
Tori rolled her eyes. “That’s just the bare minimum, agent. Like, you think you’ll get a medal for treating your prisoners decently? Then congratulations, cause you earned yourself a prize.”
She clenched her fist and curled her lips upwards, before handing the commander the file that Riyo and Dipper stole earlier from the penthouse. “Well, shall we proceed with our questioning? You’ve wasted enough of my time.”
What a bitch, Tori cussed underneath her breath. I hope karma slapped her with a fucking tree branch.
Pushing the tray aside, Lenora showed a holographic figure of the suspects who was responsible for Chancellor Palpatine’s death, one which the clone commander refused to believe. “So, it looks like you finally know the answer to this case, am I right or am I wrong?”
“You really think I believed that? I know Vanya more than you do. I fought with her side-by-side in every battle. She would never be capable of committing treason against the Galactic Republic.”
Lenora chuckled, shaking her head. “Oh, Tori, for a commander of a clone battalion, you sure are naïve with this sort of thing. Of course, you would defend your friend you fought along with. But tell me, commander, how much do you really know about Vanya Doyvesky?”
“She was kind and sweet,” Tori described the fallen Jedi Master. “Sure, she seemed reserved, but once you get to know her, Vanya is genuinely a nice person.”
“How so?”
“Well, she treats us clones as actual human beings, she was also a doting mother figure to one of my generals, Lira, and she’s helpful to strangers too. Vanya also treats Lira’s twin sister with kindness too, even though she wasn’t her apprentice. She would treat the girls with candies and cookies whenever she returned from battle. So imagine her reaction when Lira and Eva were pronounced dead after a day of investigation. Vanya blamed herself for not protecting them from harm, and I don’t blame her for disappearing after that day. It must be too hard for her to handle it.”
Lenora’s jaws slacked as she gave a round of applause to Tori, her eyes widened. “Well, that was a good story, really. While I can’t deny that Vanya Doyvesky is motherly towards her late apprentice, I also cannot deny her atrocity towards the Republic. Don’t get me wrong, commander, I believe you, really, but people are complex.”
“What do you mean?”
“Everyone has their good side and their bad side. Like, for instance, your brother Fox is a loyal fellow. He never thought about betraying the Republic, or being dishonest for the sake of his own goals. That I can give credit for. But sometimes, loyalty is not always a good thing. If he really cared about fulfilling his duty as a soldier, he would have stayed with the Empire instead of throwing everything away.”
“Fox did not throw away his hard work,” snapped Tori. “The Republic is not the Empire, and he did the right thing by fighting for something he swore to protect in the first place.”
“That’s the problem, isn’t it?” the agent shook her head. “Blind loyalty doesn’t get you anymore, no matter what, and I think that’s the problem with Master Vanya Doyvesky. Sure, she’s compassionate, but murder is murder. There is so much evidence that proves her direct involvement in killing the Chancellor, and I want you to listen to the recording yourself.”
Tori leaned against her seat as Lenora placed a listening device on the table, playing the recording of a conversation between Vanya and Maul.
“Hello?” she listened to the familiar tone.
“Took you long enough to answer,” Maul replied. “How is the plan following so far?”
“Unfortunately, there was one particular agent who blamed my apprentice for the murder, which is not true at all. Lira and Eva would never do such a thing, never!”
“Hmm… This isn’t good. If this agent discovered you killed him, then it would be over for all of us, including your family.”
I understand, my Lord. What must I do?”
“Reveal the Chancellor’s death to the public. That would mean the Separatist will attack Coruscant and-”
“And that would buy me time to leave,” Vanya finished his sentence. “But what about the others?”
“Forget about them, Master Jedi. Mandalore needs you, and so does your family.”
“Alright, I’ll do what you ask.”
As the recording stopped, Tori sat there with a glassy eye, staring at the device. There were no words uttered at all. Frieda tugged the sleeves of her dress, wanting to offer her mother a cookie from the tray, but the clone commander ignored her. There was no way that Lenora faked the evidence, no matter how hard she wanted to convince herself otherwise.
“You seem quiet, commander,” Lenora cajoled, her hands on the table. “Is everything alright there?”
“This is fake,” she stuttered, shaking her head. “Vanya is innocent, and she would never do such a thing.”
“Tori, you can’t deny it anymore, no matter how hard you try. Vanya may swear an oath to fight for the Jedi Order and the Republic, but we mustn’t forget that she’s also a Mandalorian, and she will do anything for her clan, even if it means spilling some blood.”
“Liar!” Tori yelled from the top of her lungs, making Frieda burst into tears. She glanced at Frieda and dropped her eyebrows, realizing what she had done. “I’m sorry, sweetie. I didn’t mean to scream, really.”
“Well, it’s been a long day for the both of you,” Lenora stood up, rubbing her eyes. “I’ll just escort you both back to your cell and I want you to think about what we’ve discussed in the meantime, especially you, commander.”
“This is your doing, not mine!”
“Well, I’m not the one who screamed in front of my daughter. Now come on, I would like to proceed with Riyo Chuchi and ARC Trooper 1512, if you don’t mind.”

But when Dooku send an ISB agent to stop them, the team had to race against time to search for the truth, which could alter the course of the galaxy.
————————————————————————————
As the fluorescent white light shone upon him, Fives squinted his eyes as he shielded his face from the intense sight. Sitting upwards on his bed, he rubbed the top of head after being unconscious for a while, only to find that his entire lock of hair was gone. There was a bandage on the right side of his newly bald head, indicating that the surgery went well.
Dr. Urakchaevy entered, with a wide smile on her face. “Hey, Fives. I see you’re awake now.”
“How long have I been unconscious?”
“An hour,” she sat beside him. “You must be exhausted, considering you didn’t sleep last night.”
“Yeah,” he massaged his neck. “Anyway, how was Yara? Is she okay?”
“Yeah, she’s fine. We also performed a surgery on her, and she’s still here.”
“That’s good to hear,” Fives sighed in relief, knowing that his sibling is still here with him. “So, what did you find so far?”
“We’ll discuss that outside,” Dr. Urakchaevy stood up as she brought the ARC Trooper out of her office and sat at the dining table with Yara and Thando, who was indulging in their dessert. Yara gave a stony look as Fives sat next to her, glancing at the small part of her hair, which was shaved and bandaged.
“I see you’re still alive,” she said, avoiding him. “It’s great seeing you again, buddy.”
“Nice hearing from you too,” he replied in a neutral tone, paying attention to the doctor, who was about to speak to them about her discovery.
“So, do you guys want the good news or the bad news?”
“The good news, please,” Yara answered, resting her head on her palms.
“Alright then,” Dr. Urakchaevy nodded, as she composed herself and placed two of their cells on the table, along with Tup’s rotting tumour. “The good news is that we managed to remove these from your head without any fatalities.”
“Okay, and?”
“And both the cells that I’ve taken out are in perfect condition.”
Fives compared his cell with Tup’s, noticing a striking difference between the two. “Well, that is good news, Doc, though it would be nice to know the bad news as well. I need to know everything that was affecting Tup as well.”
“The bad news is that I cannot identify this thing inside all three of your brains,” she sighed.
“What do you mean you can’t identify it?”
“This thing is a foreign object. I’ve run many tests on these three samples and the results were unknown. I’ve also checked every textbook related to the brain, but I also found nothing as well. Honestly, I can’t even say that this was a tumour or a brain cell, really. No matter how much I searched, there was nothing to be found.”
He raised both his eyebrows, crossing his arms. “If it wasn’t a tumour or a virus, then what is it then? And how is it related to Tup’s strange behaviour?”
“From what I observed, it seemed that Tup’s sample was decaying, which explained why he was so aggressive towards your Jedi general, but compared to yours and Yara, both of you are perfectly healthy, which confirms my conclusion that it had something to do with it.”
“So you’re telling me that this thing is the actual cause the whole time?”
“I believe so,” Dr. Urakchaevy confirmed. “And since it was in your brain as well, this could also be in every clone trooper’s mind as well. But what function does it serve, I wish I had an answer to that? Do you know anything about that?”
Fives shook his head. “We also don’t know that is as well, but if what you’re saying is true, then we better investigate this matter. We don’t know the purpose of these samples, and we don’t know how lethal it may be to the rest of our brothers and sisters. For all we know, maybe this could be part of the Empire’s plan to kill us.”
“It’s a possibility,” Thando spoke up. “But like Tiana said, without knowing that these samples are, then there is no way we could know the function of it in the first place.”
Yara could only stare at her ice-cream as she struggled to think of a decent plan to uncover the mystery. It wasn’t a tumour; it wasn’t a virus, and it’s definitely something that was external. Maybe the Empire does have something to do with it, though she was unsure how. Maybe going back to base may not be a bad idea after all.
“We should take this to Master Kaarim,” she suggested. “I mean, it was our original plan to take Tup back to base in the first place, so we might as well give these samples to the Jedi. That way, we could determine the truth behind it.”
“Or you can go back to where you guys came from,” the doctor suggested. “I mean, in order to find out the truth, we’ll have to trace back to the beginning of the story.”
“You mean, we should head back to Kamino?” Fives gasped. “But isn’t that too risky? The Empire could be waiting for us down there.”
“I know, but this thing has been in your head the whole time, and it literally killed your brother in the first place. I know it sounds dangerous, and I understand the risk, but maybe it’s worth the try. Besides, you’ll feel better after you two find out the truth. Otherwise, it’s not worth the trouble you’ve gone through.”
“I understand, but we really want to head back to base,” Yara insisted. “It’s been a day and I’m sure Master Kaarim is worried right now.”
Dr. Urakchaevy held her hands, looking through her eyes. “I know you feel this way, but trust me, Master Kaarim will forgive you once you determine the cause of Tup’s death. Besides, I know Tup would want this for you and Fives. Don’t you care about him?”
Yara held her tongue as she recalled Tup’s last moments on Ringo Vinda, and glanced at her ice-cream, which melted into a bowl of soup. Fives stared at the round-shaped clock and tapped his foot on the floor, figuring out the best decision.
As much as he wants to agree with Yara, Dr. Urakchaevy had a fair point. A Jedi Master wouldn’t know anything about treating clone troopers. If he wants to know what happened to Tup, then Kamino would be a good place to start, even if it’s risky.
“Alright, we’ll head to Kamino,” Fives decided, much to Yara’s dismay. “But we need transport to head there. We don’t have a ship, anyway.”
“I’ll arrange that for you,” Dr. Urakchaevy offered. “You guys just get ready and I’ll take care of the rest for you.”
An hour had passed, and the late afternoon sun was flaring in the cloudless sky. Fives and Yara had departed from the yellow house, which was surrounded by flower pots. Donned in a knitted poncho, both of them walked down the streets and noticed the same vendors selling snacks and drinks in their stalls.
Despite the gloominess between Fives and Yara, the scenery didn’t change at all. Life still went on for the rest of the people living here. No words were spoken between them. It was just silence. When they reached the station, a Sullustan man waved at them, catching their attention.
“That must be our pilot,” he spoke. “We should get going.”
Yara only bobbed her head as they boarded the ship, not knowing their fate once they got out of the planet.

————————————————————————————
Staring at his plate of French toast, Fives could only tap his fingers on the table as Yara sat opposite of him, chewing on her bowl of cereal. None of them said anything to each other, making the silence tense.
His eyelids felt heavy as he glanced at the golden morning sun. The clouds on the horizon were floating freely in the sky and the larks were singing on the branches of the tree, and the breeze swayed with the flowers that were blooming outside.
Tup should have woken up to this view instead, he pined, as he thought about his fallen brother in his dreams.
The dream was intense, with Fives standing beside Tup as he was receiving his operations from Dr. Urakchaevy, who was doing her best to remove the tumour from his head. He tried reaching for his hands, but it was no use. But he remembered the conversation he had with Tup, before he woke up.
“The mission…” Tup uttered to Fives. “The mission.”
“Brother, what mission?”
“You… you know the one. Th-the mission, the one in our dream, that never ends. The one in our dreams. Oh, brother. This is the end. Forget the mission. Oh, the nightmare. I’m free.”
It was short, yet; it struck a chord in Fives’s nerves. He doesn’t know what to do with the dream he experienced last night. He wanted to say something to Yara, but she hasn’t apologised for what she said last night.
Dr. Urakchaevy and Thando watched the two clones from their sofa, chewing on their breakfast. It was up to one of them to say something to break the silence in the living room, though the last thing she wanted was for them to lash out at her.
“So, Yara,” Dr. Urakchaevy spoke to her. “Are you enjoying your cereal?”
The ARC Trooper bobbed her head, expressionless. “It was alright.”
“Was it too sweet for you, cause this cereal has marshmallows as well.”
“It’s good enough for me.”
“Do you want anything else, like what Fives is having? I know you have an enormous appetite.”
Yara shook her head. “Thanks, but I’m good. Besides, I never had cereal before, so this is fine.”
Letting out a sigh, Dr. Urakchaevy turned to Fives, who barely touched his French toast her wife made. His eyebrows were furrowed as his hands were gripped on his fork, as if he was holding a combat knife.
She tugged on Thando’s sleeves and cleared her throat, moving her head towards him. Fortunately, the wife knows what she was talking about. “So Fives, was the French toast good?”
“It’s better than rations,” he said in a monotone voice. “Can’t really complain much.”
“Right,” Thonda chuckled. “How about the caf? Was it okay for you too?”
“It tastes exactly like the ones at our base.”
“Wow, that’s great to hear. So, how are you doing in the morning?”
Fives put down his fork on his plate, facing her with his tired eyes. “Well, I was awake the whole night, thanks to that certain someone.”
Yara took a deep breath and slammed her spoon in her bowl. “You know Fives, if you’re gonna be upset at me, at least don’t be passive aggressive, goddamit!”
“Well, look who’s talking,” he stood up, raising his voice. “I’ve been trying to talk to you the first thing I woke up to and here you are pretending that I never existed at all!”
“In case you lost your brains in a fucking volcano, you told me you didn’t want to talk to me the whole day!”
“No, I fucking told you not to shut up and not speak of last night, you dimwit!”
“No, you said that you want me to not talk to you the entire day!”
“Okay, you know what, Yara? Fuck you!”
“Well, fuck you and your stupid brain of yours!”
“Okay, let’s just cool down, alright?” Dr. Urakchaevy stepped in, spreading her arms between the clones. “I understand that you both find it difficult to cope with Tup’s death, and that is totally valid. But fighting with each other will not bring him back. It’ll only make things worse.”
“Well, if I knew Tup was gonna die, I would have at least said goodbye to him,” Fives shouted at the doctor. “But instead, you told me he was gonna be fine and look what happened to him now, doc. He’s already gone, and I never even get to say goodbye to him, and it’s all your fault.”
Dr. Urakchaevy nodded, pressing her lips tightly. “I understand you’re upset at me, and I’m sorry that I couldn’t save your brother. But if you guys kept screaming at each other all day, I can’t help you figure out Tup’s illness.”
“But he already died,” Yara protested. “It’s already too late to save him. It’s not like you can bring him back to life, even with your special equipment and shit.”
“I’m not going to bring him back to life, and I can’t do that, anyway.”
“But you just said that you want to help Tup.”
“I know, but not by bringing him back. Look, if you both just sit down and listen, I can explain everything about his tumour inside his brain. Can you guys do that for me?”
Fives and Yara exchanged a glance of sorrow with each other and sat down, focusing on the doctor. As much as he wants to argue, the doctor has a point. Fighting won’t do anything to bring Tup back, nor will it help them in the future. And even if it did, they would disappoint Tup instead.
“Alright, Doc, I’m all ears,” he resigned, leaning against his seat. “What do you have for us?”
Thando got up from her seat and headed into Dr. Urakchaevy’s office for a moment, before returning with a tumour, which belonged to Tup. Placed in between a glass case, the tumour was smaller than Yara’s cereal, and there were holes on the cell, which reminded her of a lily pod.
“Is that really from Tup?” Yara asked, examining the tumour closer.
“Yes, and I believe that this so-called tumour was the reason your brother was acting strange,” Dr. Urakchaevy shared her report. “This thing was deep inside his brain that I had to use a level 5 atomic scan to detect it.”
“So you’re saying this tumour is causing Tup to act aggressively?” Fives questioned, scratching his chin.
“I believe so, though I can’t really call it a tumour.”
“What do you mean?”
“You see, if a tumour gets worse, it would usually grow,” she explained. “But this one doesn’t. Instead, it just rotted and from there, it probably caused Tup to act differently, which is unlikely if it’s just a normal tumour.”
“So you’re telling me that a tumour doesn’t cause aggression?” Yara asked for clarification.
“That is correct. So I suspect that maybe the both of you have it inside your brain, which is why I decided to conduct a level 5 atomic brain scan on the both of you.”
Fives’s eyes widened. “Seriously? But we’re okay. There’s nothing wrong with us.”
“I know you both are fine, but don’t know anything about clones, really. In fact. There was no textbook about clone biology and your anatomy, which is why I need to do a scan on your brain. Not only do I know more about the both of you, but I’ll also be able to determine the root cause of Tup’s death. I know you guys are scared, but if you let me help you, then you’ll know the truth. What do you say, guys? Do you want to help your brother, or do you want to leave this place empty-handed?”
Yara and Fives pondered. If they leave now, then they wouldn’t get any answers to the odd incident on Ringo Vinda. But if they stay, then the chances of dying are higher. As minutes passed, the duo reached their final decision. “If this brain scan means helping Tup, then I’m in,” the former declared, straightening her head.
“What about you, Fives?” Thando asked. “Are you okay with this?”
“I guess I’ll do it,” he said. “But only because of Tup.”
“I’m so glad we can come to an agreement,” Dr. Urakchaevy clapped her hand, turning towards Yara. “Well then, I’ll start with your sister here, since she was the first person to agree.”
Before the latter could say anything, Fives stood in. “I want to be the first one to get my brain scan. Yara can just wait for her turn.”
“Fives, what are you doing?” Yara groaned. “I want to be the first.”
“Well, that’s too bad, vod. I’m going first, and that is final.”
“If you insist,” Dr. Urakchaevy shrugged, as she accompanied him inside her office, leaving Yara with Thando. Closing the door behind her, the doctor grabbed her coat and rubber gloves as the ARC Trooper lay down in front of the surgical machine.
His whole body was soaked in sweat as the doctor filled a vial of anesthesia inside a syringe, her face covered in a face mask. But he has to do this, no matter the cost. If Fives is going to die, then so be it. At least he gets to see Tup again.
“This will only take a while, so just close your eyes and think happy thoughts,” Dr. Urakchaevy comforted him, injecting the syringe inside his body. “Trust me, you’ll wake up after this, as if nothing had ever happened.”
Fives wanted to say something, but his head was spinning and his vision turned pitch black.

————————————————————————————
The city of Mendes was mesmerising for Raul. With the sapphire skyscrapers that match the yellowish sky and the fluffy clouds, the whole place looked like something that would directly come out from a fairytale.
Most of the buildings were made of gems, which presumably came from their famous mines. The roads were filled with speeders and hovercab, just like the Coruscanti traffic. However, it wasn’t so congested and the pavements were free from trash.
Instead of the usual smell from the exhaust fumes and garbage trucks, Raul thought he was in a candy store he and Erina would visit when they were younger. The brown sugar that was melting into a hard candy, he noticed a vendor selling those to the children who were playing in the streets.
Seeing those children jumping up and about in the streets made him sigh. If he could revisit his childhood home ever again, he would never complain about how boring the town was. The grassy plains, the giant rock formations, the Lothcats chasing each other, Raul would kill to see those again.
Hocura may be a jungle, but the capital city was a sight to see. If he was born here, he would never leave the planet. If only he weren’t here to fight a battle. In a few moments, it will never be the same for everyone who lives here.
“General, we’ve got targets inbound,” Commander Mina said, handing him a binocular. “We’re gonna have to take them out from here. What do you think?”
Raul glanced through the lens and saw a few battle droids guarding the power generator. The droids won’t be a problem for them, as his troops could take them down in an instant. The only problem is when reinforcement arrives.
“Alright, but we’ll have to get in position quickly if we want to take out the entire power,” he explained, showing the holomap of the power generator. “We’ll have a sniper here on the rooftop, and the rest of us will be down there, waiting for the signal. Is that okay with you, commander?”
“It’s a good plan, general,” she praised. “But what about the Corrie Guards? They’re still waiting inside the transport.”
“They’ll be our backup when Imperial reinforcement arrives. For now, it’s just us.”
“Sounds good to me, general. I’ll let the others know.”
As she crawled backwards silently, Mina turned to Bouncy, who was assembling his blasters with Nygma. “Hey, I got a job for you.”
“What is it, commander?”
“You’ll be our sniper for this part of the mission. What do you think about that?”
Bouncy chuckled, lifting his head a little higher. “Is that even a question, commander? We’ve been fighting together for years now. I’m sure you know me well.”
“Right then, I guess it’s settled,” she cheered, showing him the same Mal that Raul showed earlier. “There are battle droids making rounds at the power generator and I need you to take them down.”
“How many are there?”
“As you can see here, it’s only 5 droids there. It’s not that much, if you ask me.”
“Sounds like a piece of cake. I guess I’ll do my best.”
“That’s the spirit,” Mina said, patting him on the shoulder. She, Raul, and Nygma headed below the rooftop and met up with the others, who gave them a respectful salute, waiting for further orders. “Alright troopers, we’re heading downstairs to take down the power generator. Wait until you hear the signal.”
“So what’s the signal, commander?” the other Mina asked, raising her hand.
“As soon as Bouncy takes down a droid, we’ll be sweeping in and take out the rest of them. Now, I’ll just need a couple of volunteers to disable the generator.”
Nygma and the other Mina raised their hands, along with Oli and Midnight. “We can handle that, commander.”
Raul smiled at the four of them. “I have faith that you all will succeed, though, you’ll have to be quick. Otherwise, it’s over for us and General Kenobi’s team.”
They glanced at each other for a moment, before turning towards their general. “We won’t let you down, general.”
“I know you won’t,” he said, before Mina patted him on the shoulder.
“We should get going, general.”
Giving a nod of acknowledgement, the 197th Battalion marched out from an abandoned building and paced on the concrete road, holding their weapons, With Raul and Commander Mina in front, they headed towards the power generator which was a stone’s throw away from their current.
She looked up at the building’s roof, where Bouncy was standing by in his position. I hope our plan goes smoothly.
Shifting her focus towards her steps, the army arrived at the power station, where the droids noticed their presence from afar. “Stop right there, Republic scum,” the B1 unit ordered, pointing their weapons towards them.
The 197th Battalion did what their enemies ordered them by raising their hands in the mid-air. With a smirk on his face, Raul signed a peace sign to the battle droids, prompting the sniper to blast them. Within a second, a droid was gunned down by the head, prompting the rest to fire at them..
Mina did not waste any time and started blasting the battle droids with her twin blaster. The rest did the same, except for Nygma, Oli, Midnight, and the other Mina, who rushed towards the central station with bags of explosives and droid poppers.
The moment they stepped inside, the first two clones began fighting off the battle droids who were working with the control panel, leaving the room empty. “General, we’ve already secured the station,” the other Mina contacted Raul through her comlink. “Permission to disable the power?”
“You have my permission, trooper. Ready when you are.”
“Thank you, general,” she obeyed, as she nodded at Midnight, who had his hands on the lever. As the clone did what he was told, the workers inside their off realized the lights were cut off suddenly, along with the air conditioning, which they got it fixed yesterday.
A university lecturer who was presenting a holographic figure was startled as students were whispering among themselves inside the lecture hall. Meanwhile, there was a house husband who was vacuuming the floor, wondered whether there was something wrong with the machine he bought a few days ago.
With chaos on Hocura, all the battle droids were deactivated, much to Raul’s pleasure. “General Kenobi, you and General Almarez-Guttierez’s team are all clear,” he told the Jedi. “You are now clear to proceed with the next step of the plan.”
“Thank you, General Gomez,” Obi-Wan answered. “We'll be on our way now towards the Imperial Headquarters.”
“May the Force be with all of you,” wished Raul, as he watched a few stolen Imperial Troop Transport passing by them.

“How long till we reach the checkpoint, general?” Thire asked, standing in front of him.
“We’ll reach there in half an hour,” Raul answered, glancing at the holomap of Mendes. From what he’s gathered so far, there were millions of people living there and were protected by the main city gate. The entire purpose was to protect the citizens from wild animals, though they were lucky enough to not encounter any of them.
Out of all the terrains he explored in his lifetime, the tropical jungle was his least favourite. Besides the irritating blood-sucking insects and intense humid air, Raul was often told that the jungle was a good place for people to get lost and never be seen ever again. His mother would say that the spirits living in the jungle handle people’s disappearance, but he felt it was the wild beasts that may have caused it.
In his childhood, Raul dreamed about living in a tropical climate and building a treehouse with Erina. Unfortunately, during his first experience as a Scout, he changed his mind. He decided that the jungle wasn’t for him and wished to live in a tundra-like climate instead, where everything was peaceful.
Mina analysed the map over and over and wondered about the main city gate, which was guarded by the Imperial droids. “General,” she spoke, raising her hand. “I don’t want to sound stupid, but what’s with the large gate, anyway? Was that necessary?”
“The entire purpose was to protect the inhabitants of wild animals at night,” Raul smiled. “It’s been there since the city was built, but the Empire took advantage of that protection and turned it into a tool of oppression instead.”
“That’s terrible,” she remarked. “I’m sure the people of Hocura are confined to their miserable lives.”
“From what I’ve heard, there are lots of things to do on Hocura, but I agree with you, commander. People were doing well before the Empire showed up on their doorsteps.”
Stone’s fist clenched as he heard Raul and Mina’s conversation. “We’ll defeat the Imps once we reach there.”
Raul chuckled. “That’s the spirit, trooper. We’ll do everything we can to destroy the power generator without letting innocent civilians die.”
“I agree, general,” Thire said, holding his weapon. “The last thing we want is the Empire blaming us for the death tolls of civilians. Whatever we’re doing now is now being weaponized by the Emperor to make us look bad.”
“That’s the whole point of propaganda,” Mina said. “It paints our opponents as the villains. I’m sure the Republic is guilty of that too, not that I’m against our forces, of course.”
Nygma raised her eyebrows. “No one is saying that to you, commander.”
“I know, but just in case you guys have doubts about me, I have to assure you I am on your side just to calm you down.”
“That sounds exactly like what a traitor would say.”
“Relax, Nygma,” the other Mina spoke out. “We’ve been fighting side-by-side for years now. There is no way she would betray us after what we went through together. Besides, when was the last time you slept, anyway?”
He let out a sigh, rubbing his eyes. “How can I sleep when you have the same nightmares over and over again?”
She nodded, her lips pressed together. “I know that feeling, too. I even started losing count on how many of those nightmares I had, you know.”
Thire and Stone joined in the conversation, relating to their similar experience. “We also had that kind of dream every night, too. Why do you think we Corrie Guards do night duty in the first place?”
“But of course, since we had a new boss, we had to re-experience the same thing when we dozed off.”
“Correct me if I’m wrong,” Commander Mina raised her hand. “But was it the nightmare where we killed a Jedi and we couldn’t do anything about it?”
“Bingo,” Nygma fingered a gun at her. “That dream was the reason I woke up in the middle of the night.”
“Keep it down, or the general will hear us,” Stone hissed, gesturing to the both of them.
But Raul was listening to their conversation. From what he knows about dreams, they were common among sentient beings as it is part of their brain processing when they were asleep. He knew also that nightmares are normal and dreams about being chased or falling down recur from time-to-time. But dreaming about killing a Jedi every night was intriguing for him, and he wants to learn more about their problems.
“So, what were you talking about?” Raul asked, his legs crossed.
Thire and Mina darted eyes with each other as Nygma glanced away from the general, focusing on the blank wall instead. For a moment, the general checked on his gloved hands as he waited for at least one of them to break the awkward silence between them. The other Mina turned to Stone, who was wiping his helmet, wondering if she should say something to Raul. The last thing she wanted was to keep him waiting.
After what seemed to be forever, the other Mina decided to do the honours. “We were just having a small talk with each other, that’s all.”
“Are you sure, Mina?” Raul gave her a delicate smile. “The long silence was rather telling, if you asked me.”
“It’s personal between us clones,” Thire convinced, clearing his throat. “You wouldn’t understand anyway, no offence.”
“None taken, Thire. Besides, I majored in psychology in college, so I know a few things about dreams and how it can mirror our making moments, you know.”
“That’s really interesting, general,” Mina chuckled, feeling her sweat pouring from her forehead. “But we’re good, so thanks, anyway.”
Before Raul could say anything, Beetle called from the driver’s seat, prompting him to get up from his seat. “We’ll be having this discussion after our mission is completed.”
Thire nodded as he watched him walk away. His heart was pounding, realizing that no matter what, Raul will insist on talking about their nightmares. The fact that the general referred to him by his first name was odd, since Palpatine never did that.
“Does the general always call you by your first name?” he asked Commander Mina, tapping on her shoulder.
“Yeah, he does,” she bobbed her head. “But in my case, he had to address me by my rank since there’s another vod’ika with the exact name as mine.”
Turning to the other Mina, she glared at her, crossing her arms. The other Mina stretched her lips, hiding her hands. “In my defense, I didn’t expect to be in the same battalion with you.”
“Why not change to a different name instead?” Stone placed his hands on his waist. “It’s really confusing when there’s two clones in the same battalion with the same name.”
“The name was stuck already and besides, Mina was the only name I could think of.”
“Well then, I can’t argue with the name Mina.”
As they were laughing, Raul approached them with a stiff face, ready to give them new orders. “We’re almost to the city of Mendes. Get into position, all of you.”
“Yes, general,” Nygma acknowledged, as he and the rest of his siblings put on their helmet, loading their blasters.
The city’s gate was made from stone, which was covered with cushiony moss and spotty mushrooms. The general stood between Beetle and Bouncy, who were piloting the Imperial Troop Transport, observing the two B1 battle droids guarding the front door to the Hocuran city. *This looks like a piece of cake.*
The transport stopped in front of the gate and allowed the droids to inspect their vehicle without suspicion. Nygma and the other Mina waited as the rest of the 197th and the Corrie Guards were still as a lake. The moment the droids stepped inside, Commander Mina and Thire blasted them into bits, lasting for two seconds.
Nygma and the other Mina stepped out of the vehicle and searched through the Imperial checkpoint. The latter grabbed a clipper and cut the wires from the radio while the former pressed the button, signalling to the troops that they were all clear.
Heading back inside, the duo met Raul, whose lips were curled upwards. “You guys did great out there. Well done, I’m proud of you both.”
“It was nothing, general,” Nygma shrugged it off. “Besides, this is only the easy part. We haven’t gotten to the hard part yet.”
“You’re right,” Commander Mina agreed. “We have a long way to go before we defeat the Empire on Hocura.”
“We should contact General Kenobi and General Almarez-Guttierez,” Thire suggested.
“Good thinking, Commander,” Raul said. “Let them know that we have opened the city’s gate.”
“Sir, yes, sir.”

“You still worked up about what happened in Palpatine’s penthouse?” Tori asked Dipper, who was focused towards his palms.
“I have a bad feeling that we were being watched,” Dipper shared his feelings, licking his dry lips. “Though I can’t tell how long they know about our plans earlier?”
“How can you say that we were being watched?” Commander Fox questioned him, one of his eyebrows raised.
The ARC Trooper shrugged, crossing his arms. “Intuition, I suppose.”
Riyo hummed to herself as she pondered on what he mentioned, recalling what she experienced at the penthouse. “Well, there’s nothing wrong with listening to your gut feeling. After all, they’re always proven right in the end.”
“They do?” Tori’s eyes widened. “How is that possible?’“
“Yeah, my mother always tells me to trust my guts, even when they never seem right. The best-case scenario, you’ll always be spared from danger.”
“Well, your mother is right, Ri. If only I’ve done that on Coruscant years ago.”
“What about Coruscant?” Tori wondered, her elbows leaning against the speeder. “What happened that made you want to trust your gut feelings, Foxy?”
“Remember the time where Coruscant lost power suddenly?”
“What about it?”
“Before the incident happened, I was guarding the power generator, as usual, when a few cleaning droids were entering the checkpoint. As usual, I identified them and I admitted them inside, thinking they were just there to clean up. But when they were about to head towards their business, I noticed something a bit off, something I could never put my finger on. But somehow, I ignored it and dismissed it as another mistake when a blackout happened. Then, it occurred to me that Separatist droids were sabotaging the electricity and that I ignored the red flags right in front of me. Stupid, isn’t it?”
Riyo placed her hand on his shoulder, giving him a soft smile. “It’s not your fault. You did your best in protecting us back then, and I appreciated you and your sibling’s efforts to calm everyone.”
“Still though, if I’ve just listened to my guts like your mother, none of that would have happened. Coruscant wouldn’t have experienced a blackout and everyone else would be safe and sound.”
Dipper leaned against his seat, intrigued by the case. “I wonder why the Separatist attacked the power generator in the first place? I mean, what would they gain from that?”
“I’m not sure. It could be intimidation by the enemy.”
“That’s a weak motive, Commander. There has to be a concrete reason they disrupt electricity on that day. I mean, if they want to intimidate us, they could have just killed the top-ranking generals or even massacre an entire village or something.”
Tori squinted her eyes at his answer, feeling goosebumps when she heard about committing a genocide on innocent people. Perhaps Dipper has gotten too deep about something that has occurred in the past, though it makes sense. Why did the Separatists only sabotage the power generator in the first place?
“Riyo, on that day itself, what was being discussed in the Senate? Could you remember anything about it?”
“It was something about ending a war diplomatically,” she recalled, her head tilted upwards towards the afternoon sky. “Though I can’t remember the rest of the details, unfortunately. You’ll have to ask Padmé about that, since she was the one who brought it up in the first place.”
“We’ll do that when we get back,” Fox reminded himself, his eyes on the road. “Now, we’ll have to put that aside and discuss our findings about the Chancellor’s death. Riyo, what have you found so far?”
Riyo took a deep breath as her hands were clasped together before breaking the news to him. “It’s shocking, but someone killed the Chancellor using cyanide.”
Tori gasped at the news, her hand on her chest. “Holy shit, that is shocking? How did that happen? Who poisoned him?”
“From what Dipper and I theorised, someone gave something to the Chancellor to eat and that certain food was laced with cyanide, causing him to die in his residence before he was discovered by one of his servants.”
“Well, I’m surprised,” Fox expressed, wondering why he never gotten that far in the investigations earlier. “Do you know the suspect responsible for this mess?”
The ARC Trooper scrambled through the files as he searched for the list of suspects involved in Chancellor Palpatine’s death. As he found two documents that the Marshall Commander wanted, Dipper could only blink as he froze in his seat, wondering if he should tell them.
There were two suspects involved in the murder. One was a stranger to him, but the other one was familiar. Tori knows who the second suspect well, and she will be disheartened to learn the truth. But the truth was harsh, and he had to tell them everything.
“Who was it, Dipper?” Tori shook his hands gently.
Dipper took a deep breath and dropped the truth bomb. “There were two suspects that were identified by the ISB.”
“Who is it?” Riyo leaned forward, ready to listen.
“The first suspect is Maul. He was a Sith lord who was believed to have died decades ago, before the Clone Wars, of course.”
“So he’s Separatist?” Fox guessed.
He shook his head. “No, Maul is part of Death Watch, which is a terrorist group from Mandalore.”
“Well, I’m not surprised, though what were Maul’s motives to kill the Chancellor, anyway? Why go after him?”
“I’m not so sure. Maul is still being investigated by the ISB.”
“Bummer,” Tori sighed, resting her cheeks. “What about the second suspect? Anything about them?”
“I don’t know how to tell you this, Commander, but you know this person well,” Dipper’s voice rocked. “You’re not gonna take this well.”
Her heart raced as she did her best not to feed her paranoia. “Who was it? We need to know the truth if we’re going to solve this problem.”
“Okay then,” Dipper quivered. “It’s Vanya Doyvesky. She was the second suspect in the Chancellor’s murder.”
Placing her hands over her mouth, Tori stared at Dipper for a moment. He was not joking when he warned her she wouldn't take it well. She was a mother figure towards Lira and Eva, and a close friend to General Kenobi. “I’m sorry, what?”
“Vanya Doyvesky is the second suspect in the Chancellor’s murder.”
“I heard that for the first time, Dip,” she hissed. “This can’t be true.”
“That what it says there,” Dipper handed her the files, letting her look through just to prove that he wasn’t pulling her legs.
Glancing at the photograph, the commander couldn’t utter a single word. The last she saw her, Vanya was mourning for the loss of Lira and Eva, who were presumed dead after disappearing from the Temple for over 24 hours. The fact that Vanya had committed an atrocious deed didn’t sit well with her. “Please tell me that Vanya is still being investigated. I know her well. She would never do such a thing! Never!”
“I’m sorry, commander, but the paper said that it was confirmed. Vanya murdered Chancellor Palpatine on that fateful night.”
Fox hesitated, his fingers fidgeting on the steering. “I call bullshit on this. I know the ISB set her up. There’s no way that General Doyvesky killed the Chancellor at all.”
Riyo kept quiet the whole time. She doesn’t know what to say at all. Dipper didn’t want to believe it either, but a Jedi murdering the Chancellor makes sense to him. Tori turned away from him as she gazed at the clouds above her, which were floating in the blue sky. Did Vanya actually kill him?
As they arrived at their destination, the four of them got out from the speeders, not speaking with each other. Riyo and Fox held each other’s hands while Tori carried the files, with Dipper walking next to her. For now, she’ll have to worry about Frieda, who was with Padmé .
Stepping inside the Naboo senator’s apartment, Commander Fox and the others were surrounded by a group of armoured soldiers, with blasters pointed at them. “Freeze, Republic scum!”
“What the fuck?” Fox cussed, raising his hands. “Who are you people?”
“Talk or we’ll shoot,” they barked, leading them towards the living room. Padmé was huddled in a corner with Frieda, who was sobbing uncontrollably the whole time. Tori was about to rush towards her daughter, only to be stopped by those stormtroopers, whose armour was similar to clone armour.
Before she could demand what was going on, Agent Lenora Doherty stepped out from Padmé’s bedroom, her hands guarded. She examined Padmé and Frieda’s facial expression for a brief second, before marching towards the four of them, starting with Riyo Chuchi.
“So, you must be our former senator of Pantora,” she gleamed with a sickening sweet smile. “What an honour to meet you at last. I must say, you are one of the honest politicians, besides Senator Amidala here.”
“I could say the same for you,” Riyo rolled her eyes. “You must be an ISB agent that Senator Amidala was referring to.”
“So you heard of me?” Lenora clapped her hands. “You are smart. It’s no wonder you were chosen to represent your planet, before you betrayed us, of course.”
“I’m loyal to the Republic, not the Empire.”
“Of course you are. And you must be CC-1010, the mastermind behind all of this.”
“It’s Commander Fox to you, agent,” Fox corrected her. “And from what I can tell, you seemed worse than Agent Starros.”
“You dare compare me to that sloppy woman?” she gasped dramatically. “Commander, I am more likeable than that disgraced sociopath and yet you said I’m like her? How cruel of you.”
“Whatever, bitch,” Tori swore at her. “Just give me back my little girl, please.”
“You’re a terrible mother, CC-6231. Saying a bad word right in front of your daughter? It’s no wonder that brat cries too much.”
The commander stepped forward towards the agent, ignoring the stormtrooper’s blasters at her. “No one calls my daughter a brat, you fucking son of a b-”
“And I’ll be taking these back with me, thank you,” she said, snatching the files from Tori’s arms. “I can’t believe I actually caught all of you in a trap. I didn’t think you guys would fall for it, you know. I always thought Senator Amidala was intelligent enough to not steal these files until today.”
Fox smacked his palms against his forehead, realizing the worst situation he had to encounter on Coruscant. “I should have known this was all a set-up. Fuck, I’m better than this.”
“I’m so sorry, guys,” Padmé apologizes, rubbing Frieda’s back. “I shouldn’t have asked all of you to get involved in the first place.”
“How cliché,” Lenora groaned, looking at her nails. “Escort all of them to their cells, along with the senator and that crying brat.”
As the stormtroopers were dragging them out of the apartment, Dipper turned towards Lenora, who was watching them like a hawk. “Were you the one who sabotaged us while we were at the Chancellor’s penthouse?”
Lenora only grinned like a Cheshire cat at him, confirming his suspicions. “See you soon, handsome.”
