i have been thinking lately about going back to writing my original novel.

which is insane.

it's been months since i last wrote anything. i don't have inspiration anymore, not even for my traditional birthday extravaganza, which is in a little over a month. i haven't developed a good idea in weeks.

and yet here i am, fantasizing about characters that i am not talented enough to create.

Now that posting has begun, have a little sneak peek of Jonah's interaction with CarlosSanta 😉

“I’m Jonah.” Right away, he turned his whole body to point back to the crowd where the parents waited a bit further away. “And that’s my brother TK and his best friend Nancy.”

“Is that so?” Carlos asked, needing a second to take in all of this very, very important information.

His brother.

And his name was TK.

And the girl was just the best friend.

Carlos didn’t break his role though, playing over the moment by gently waving at the brother and friend in his typical Santa gesture while letting out another ho ho ho.

“Well, Jonah,” he said when he was able to pull his eyes away from TK. “What are your wishes this year?”

Instead of the happy babble he had expected, the young boy grew shy as he turned his head to look at his brother once more, then turned back to Carlos. When he spoke, it was in a hushed voice. “It’s not for me.”

“Okay… well, you can tell Santa anything you want.”

“It’s for my brother, TK. He really needs a boyfriend again.”

Random Thought about Translation...

📚And why I feel so honored and pleased doing it!🪶

For the past weeks, I've had the honour and pleasure of being my dear @malohkeh-main's beta reader for her French translation of "Demon and Angel Professors", a gorgeous and gigantic Good Omens AU written by Ghostinthehouse aka @ineffableghost.

Malohkeh does the heavy work, while your humble servant adapts the text as best as possible for French readers. A hard but fascinating work!

Just so you know, each chapter of the English text is exactly 666 words, and Malohkeh made sure to respect this from the beginning. Sometimes, it is possible to manage to end up with a satisfying, coherent translation at 666 words. And sometimes you just cannot do it in French language (AO3 even counts some punctuation marks as words!). So we keep a wordcount made of 3, 6, 7 and 9 for reasons of our own.

Today I worked on the one-shot titled "Would I lie to you" and it was definitely a 666-achievable chapter, while being fluid to read in French. That moment when I tweak, tweak, and tweak again...reading and reading, going from 661 to 668 words, then 665, 667, 663...before reaching the last sentence. A sentence where I go full YOLO in my prettiest french-writing mode, then save the draft...and the word count claims "666". Muhahaha. It just feels like this to me:

Anecdote Random de Traduction - Ou pourquoi c'est pour moi un honneur et un plaisir de traduire!

Depuis quelques semaines, j'ai l'honneur et le plaisir de beta-reader ma chère amie @malohkeh-main pour sa traduction en français de "Demon and Angel Professors", un splendide et gigantesque AU Good Omens écrit par Ghostinthehouse aka @ineffableghost. Malohkeh fait le plus gros du travail de traduction, et votre humble servante se charge d'adapter du mieux possible le texte à un lectorat français, tout en respectant la prose de Ghostinthehouse. Un travail exigeant mais passionnant!

Pour information, chaque chapitre de la version anglais originale compte exactement 666 mots, et Malohkeh s'est fait un devoir de respecter cet objectif dès le départ. Parfois, il est possible d'avoir une VF cohérente et agréable à lire qui fait elle aussi 666 mots. Et parfois, c'est juste impossible à faire (le site A03 comptant même certains effets de ponctuation en français comme des mots! ) et alors on garde en objectif de rester sur un nombre de mots uniquement à base de 3, 6, 7 et 9 pour des raisons qui nous paraissent pertinentes.

Aujourd'hui j'ai travaillé sur le one-shot 6 intitulé "Would I lie to you", et c'était définitivement un chapitre qui pouvait rester à 666 mots tout en demeurant agréable à lire en français.

Ce moment où je fignole, fignole, et fignole encore, relisant encore et toujours, oscillant de 661 à 668 mots, puis 665, 667, 663... avant de terminer sur la toute dernière phrase de conclusion, où je fais une belle modification en mode YOLO pour que ça sonne mieux, je "save as draft", et le compteur de mots qui clame "666". Mouahahaha.

i love online/distance learning because it helps me balance my job and my studies.

i hate it because of how isolated i feel. i don't have uni friends anymore. i don't even know anyone since i don't go to classes. i couldn't even know if the person next to me waiting up to take the exam has even been to the same classes i have.

i think that's sad.

situation: character a likes character b. character b is (readers think so) oblivious to character a liking them. they have two friends in common, c and d, who are married to each other.

c and d are furnishing their new house, and they invite a and b to ikea. they spend the afternoon testing mattresses and talking decoration, and by the end of the day d announces that they're going to have one (1) guest room with one (1) couch where two (2) people can sleep, and that it's a and b's guest room for when the two of them go visit.

neither a nor b say anything against sleeping together on a visit. they have never dated or slept together before. silence is acquiescence.

what's going on here? could a keep their hopes up that b likes them back? is it silly?

everyone's (me included) freaking out about carlos' secret being something from his past or something bad he did, when in reality it could perfectly be him having to go undercover or him finally being a detective and having to whatever detectives need to do.

writing this fic is like walking through hell. everytime i try to write a bit, something happens. in 2 months i've written around 2k, still writing the first part of the first chapter.

but i will persevere. i want to write this fic. and it's not going anywhere.

the best decision i've ever made has been the one to not take part in big writing events, save from some exceptions (911ls big bang, i'm eyeing you).

i'm less stressed about fandom these days, and i have less pressure on me about writing every single day. i'm going to try my hand at nano this year but i'm still not sure if i'll be able to pull it.

so, if you were wondering why i wasn't publishing anything (in case anyone's been thinking about this, which i doubt, but still), that's the reason why.

i've been taking some time for myself, to make sure that writing is still something i enjoy instead of something i've imposed myself.
