London…dreams of the Globe, and fish?
I honestly don’t even know where to start. London. It’s like a dream. I suppose my first thought is the red bus driving down the street, moving along the opposite side of the road from what we’re used to, and passing by the iconic Big Ben. I remember writing in a scholarship essay that I wanted to travel to England to see all the places I had read and taught about–Shakespeare’s Globe, Canterbury Cathedral, etc. These are the obvious images one has when they think of London. It is a place of history, literature, and culture. And it continues to be a city visitors of the world seek out.
As far as expectations go, I’m not sure I’ve even thought about that before now. I’m a bit apprehensive about traveling and about going somewhere new, but truthfully, I’m apprehensive about traveling in downtown Raleigh sometimes. Anything different scares me. I’m sure the people will be similar to the people here, aside from different accents and of course different views on politics and local events. When I think of people from England, I think of tea, and sometimes I think of fish and chips, as well as peas. I do love peas, so this resonates with me for some reason. I also love to watch Gordon Ramsey, so perhaps he has taken over images in my mind. I know very little about the entertainment, other than the television shows I’ve watched like Dr. Who, The Great British Bake Off, and maybe another here and there with a title I can’t remember. And weather-wise, I’ve been advised to pack a raincoat. But honestly, I can’t say that I’ve ever spent a lot of time thinking about the weather in London. If anything, I’ve spent more time teaching my students about the atmosphere of Whitechapel during the times of Jack the Ripper. I almost feel like I need to look at Google Earth and watch some recent videos, to see some more primary resources of current London.
I’m definitely looking forward to our trip, so that I can eliminate my apprehension about traveling, both to London and in general, and so that I can finally make some of my dreams come true, as sappy as that may sound.

Reflection 9: Packing
When I left home, I had a carry-on and my bookbag. I knew that I wanted to get plenty of souvenirs, so I planned to purchase a checked bag in London that I would bring back with me. I didn’t realize that I would subconsciously take that as a challenge to damn near fill the checked bag with stuff, yet here I am. As I force my things to fit as conveniently as possible for the trip home, I am trying to think of the ways that I have changed, or even if I have changed at all.
This was a life-changing experience which I can’t deny at all. I have seen and done things that I never thought possible. I’ve been to the Globe and seen so many shows that I would have had to save for months to see back home. I feel impacted by the shows I’ve seen, the people I’ve met, and the places I’ve been. However, I never really travelled before this trip. Is it possible to know whether my traveling self has changed at all? I suppose I’ve learned the ways I can cut corners while also remaining prepared for many possibilities when I go on trips now.
I know I have changed as a student. I have never bonded so personally with my instructors as I did on this trip. I felt respected by them and respectful of them while also having a layer of separation removed. I’ve never grabbed drinks with my professors. I’ve never shared stories and experiences with them. I’ve never laughed so hard that I nearly cried all while learning and experiencing something so invaluable. In those ways, I have changed immensely as a student.
As a person, I think that will require further introspection. Who was I before I left? Who do I feel like now? I know I came back another year older with many more experiences. How has that changed who I am or has it? I suppose after my exhaustion wears off, I might be able to answer that question.
My suitcase is nearly bursting as force it to zip shut. I’m not sure if I’ll ever remove the tags from the Charlotte airport or the little signs of where I’ve been. In a way, that makes it so much more real. Whenever I go anywhere, I’ll be able to look at my luggage and remember where I’ve been and what I did there. I was once told that we are the sum of our experiences, but I think we are that and so much more. We just have to remember the moments we felt like we were more than what we have experienced.

Getting an electrical certificate is an important part of being a landlord or if you are selling your home. To schedule an inspection, approach a well-known and recommended gas and electrical certificates engineer. At the end of 2014, R-22 refrigerant will be banned under EU legislation. So air conditioner systems with R-22 gas will effectively become redundant as any loss of gas cannot be replaced. It is estimated that there are still millions of R-22 systems still in operation, but the main reason for businesses delaying implementation of R-22 replacement systems is, putting it simply, the expense.

The Tube: London’s Greatest Attraction?
I love the Tube. At first it scared me, but at this point, I’ve gotten used to it. I love that no one smiles at me, stops me to talk, or expects me to carry on a conversation. These are all issues I’ve had with people back home, where it’s expected that especially a woman should smile and speak. Everyone is just moving. We all have places to get to, and I completely understand that mentality. There are travelers with suitcases, people headed to or from work or school, people just riding for errands, and more. The other day, we met a group from Florida. But the only reason we talked was probably because we were both tourists. I’ve recently discovered that the one thing that annoys locals about Americans is their tendency to talk on the Tube, which makes sense.
Tumblr media
Are there some eccentricities? Of course. This one girl just started singing extremely loudly as soon as she sat down; I’m still not sure of her motives, as she seemed bent on getting the attention of the boy seated across from her. But I love that people are so open and unique, so expressive, so human. The only thing I don’t love is how warm and crowded it can be, but it moves so quickly that this inconvenience seems minor. I also appreciate the fact that no one really stares. Perhaps this is due to the rules? We saw a sign claiming that staring could be considered harassment; if only that were true in the states.
Tumblr media
In relation to our reading of Neverwhere, we’ve seen various places that are mentioned in the book: St. Pancras, Earl’s Court, Islington, and more. And we see character types. There is one girl, possibly displaced from her home, who sits at the foot of the stairs in one station between the two track entrances; she definitely reminds me of someone who would be from the Underside in Neverwhere. And then there are the people who walk through the trains themselves, asking for food or spare change. This is interesting, because it seems so normal to those who ride the train. There are also various performers, even one we saw on the street and then later that same evening in the Tube tunnel. The Tube is alive, with smells, sounds, and certainly sights. And each station has its own quirks. Some are nicer than others. At one point, someone said, “We’re home,” when we reached Angel, and we’ve only been here less than a week, but there is something special about this particular station.

Reflection 8: What I Will (Not) Miss about London
There are a lot of things that I think fall under both categories of things that I will and won’t miss about London, so rather than create a Venn diagram, I suppose I’ll just explain the items on the list. I’m not sure what my logic is for these things other than the fact that it is all bittersweet. These things are in no particular order.
The noise. I hate the sudden, sharp ringing of the sirens and the horrible grinding screaming in the Tube. People shout for no reason in the streets at all hours without much regard for those who may be trying to sleep. I love the cooing of the pigeons as they flock together around food and the rush of wind through the tunnels of the Tube station. I have also come to enjoy the voice over the intercom reminding me to “mind the gap.”
The bustle. I will not miss the constant feeling of being rushed, even if you are just trying to take a moment to get your bearings. It often feels that you are in someone’s way. That feeling is one I know isn’t at home, however, due to the simple fact that there is not much to do or see. It is easy to stagnate.
Over preparedness. As it is harder to take time out of your day to go back home and get something than it is to just bring it with you, I often felt that I was living be the credence of “having it and not needing it.” This often led to a heavy, wearisome bag weighing down on my shoulders. Though, being prepared also meant that I would often realize I did, in fact, need to bring my spare charger or that the presence of my tablet meant that I could read in a queue rather than play around on my phone. Still, sometimes a trip back to the flats would sometimes be a blessing to unload and regroup, even if it meant taking an hour out of the day.
Interpreting maps. Even after three weeks, it still takes a few moments of hesitation to ensure you are getting on the correct line or bus. Back home, if you ask for directions, people use landmarks and a few road names, and it’s easy to understand. In London, there are multiple ways to get to where you are going, so it is just easier to ask someone what street you are on and keep walking rather than ask about the destination. Chances are whoever you ask has no idea where you are going either. I do appreciate how those in city planning know who confusing their city can be at times, so there are maps nearly everywhere to help you reorient yourself.
The night. Nights feel so short here. The sun goes down later, but it also never seems to fully go down as the street lights are always on and bright. It makes me miss my blackout curtain at home, though, I wouldn’t get much use out of it with the windows open (see “noise” above). The sun also seems to come up sooner. On the other hand, I would never feel safe walking home at night in North Carolina. Maybe it is the knowledge that guns aren’t much of a thing here or the constant surveillance, but I would have never been able to go and do as much as I did without the comfort of night in London.
Lack of A/C. There isn’t much that I will miss about not having A/C. This is entirely something that I will not miss at all.

If you drive on Texas roads, whether it is in a passenger car, motorcycle, pickup truck, van, bus, moped, or other motorized vehicle, that vehicle must display a Texas inspection sticker. Many people attempt to have their vehicles inspected, but fail due to some mechanical problem or other. What do the inspectors look for? What happens if your vehicle fails? Do you know the Texas inspection sticker law? The electrical industry is rapidly developing and reaching the heights. The electrical market is totally getting technological based industry. It fetters the occupations across electro-technology, communications, refrigeration, computer systems, air conditioning, and security systems. It creates an impact on every aspect of daily life.

Best 11 Top-Rated Gas Safety Certificate London
youtube
Gas training courses are open to nearly anyone. A usual student may be somebody that is already working with a friend in the gas or plumbing type of industry. Or may perhaps be someone looking for a change in career and do not have any previous experience. No matter who you are, everyone should be capable of finishing at least one of our gas courses which will help you to obtain a gas certification. Gas Safety Regulations put strict requirements on Landlords to ensure that the boiler and gas systems in rental properties are safe and well maintained on an annual basis. However, there is not the same level of requirement on Landlords to ensure that the electrics in a property are adequate and PAT testing is not a compulsory requirement unlike Gas Safety Inspections. The Landlord and Tenant Act 1985 provides that an electrical installation in a property is "Safe when a tenancy begins" and "Maintained in a safe condition throughout the tenancy".

Top Best 21 Boiler Maintenance London

Moving house can be a very exciting time for many, especially those who are leaving their parents home for the first time. For others, it is an unfortunate consequence of the recession, with many renting their own home and moving to smaller properties. What both groups have in common is their haste, and this is what makes them vulnerable to landlords who do not comply with current UK gas safety legislation. An Electrical Installation Condition Report is a safety check of all the electrical wiring, including accessories, in a caravan. Electrical wiring deteriorates over time, and a periodic inspection and report is needed to make sure that the electrical installation in a caravan remains safe. The report follows a Periodic Inspection and Test.
