The Jinn-Bot of Shantiport

set in a cyberpunk Calcutta-inspired city, loosely inspired by Aladdin

chaotic monkey bot who wants to fight in underground mecha/bot tournaments and leave to become a space hero

his human sister, the daughter of failed revolutionaries who has been working her whole life to free their city from oppression and inequality, especially with the recent rumors that their planet is scheduled for destruction

and an old unearthed bot whose function is to observe & record the story of a client who meets the siblings and quickly becomes involved in their lives

and a treasure hunt to find an old and powerful piece of alien tech that has the power to radically change their city

#The Jinn-Bot of Shantiport #aroaessidhe 2024 reads #I really loved this #a little robot with a big personality? TWO of them? im in.#The pacing is a bit weird - the first half could honestly be a contained novella. the second half is a bit all over the place #But I’m ultimately glad to have that extra more complex part of the story #it’s like very action packed with a few dense moments especially like the infodumps about what Lina / her mother’s deal is.#which kinda makes sense on a technical level (Moku learning this all at once) but also I definitely felt a bit confused at why/how some of #the stuff that was going on was happening #I did also find every now and then weirdly worded prose took me out of it? but I can look past that #I felt the side romance was random and weird. I felt like it did a disservice to her otherwise complex character to have her just forget #her goals and values because Hot Man?#idk. it’s lampshaded a bit by being viewed through the POV who also thinks it is weird and makes no sense #but they still get together again in the end…. I would have preferred if they didn’t.#that's mostly complaints LOL but the world is so rich and interesting and i love robots that are little shits (affectionate)#queer books

so done with individuality complexes and also with ingredient meals presented as a desirable thing. personally I think good food should be hot and made of multiple components ❤️

#never been a salad girl never been a charcuterie girl etc #I’m not saying I don’t eat ingredient meals I just consider them sad and not something to be posting about but I think it’s bcus I’m Chinese #I even mean cooked ingredients like if you just made beans. and dip it in bread. idk not gagged by that even tho I do eat it #food prepared with love means smth very specific to me… typically there should be spices and warmth and multiple components and meat #and on individuality complexes… yeah nothing to add except how can you build community if you think you’re alone/leading the pack…?#isn’t commonality with others beautiful?

important to me that you know squabble rocket jumps

she is always doing stupid stunts that involve excessive amounts of explosives. luckily she's basically incapable of getting hurt worse than a skinned knee or bruise here and there cause she defies the laws of physics. it's a very good thing this is the case otherwise carrion would find ways to murder the inanimate objects she gets hurt on

carrion waits on squabbles every whim gladly and will not make any attempt to stop squabble from doing the dangerous things she wants to, but as long as he’s in the vicinity everything will work out conspicuously perfect

jerryjack thinks squabble is incredibly entertaining and would absolutely never remind her of basic safety precautions. they up the stakes constantly

rig is wholly unaware what's normal for a 12 year old to do so instead of interfering she just offers practical advice like ‘that amount of c4 is unnecessary for what you're trying to blow up. using less will make a better explosion’. despite that, she’s super anal about gun safety (though she does not see any issues with giving squabble a gun in the first place)

#my ocs currently live in the status quo of a slice of life comedy with action elements #the postal trio go around delivering packages and doing hits and having heartwarming misadventures #and jerryjack shows up every now and again to cause trouble and be entertained #they’ve settled into that life for like a year or so #squabble is how she is because she’s plucked straight out of a gag comedy. jury’s out whether she’s aware of the 4th wall or not #but rather than any superpower or godliness she’s powered by like. genre conventions #of course she can pull out a massive rpg from her small bag. or course she wouldn’t be hurt by a 50 foot drop #oc posting #their origin story is an action packed tragomedy #god i’ve gotta post about it i’m insane about them #they kill carrions dad and overthrow the nyafia trying to monopolize assassinations #and cry about their myriad of complexes and betrayals from before they knew each other at all #and laugh about stolen planes and smile about chasing their dreams and love that’ll last this time #among other things #squabble the pigeon #carrion the cat

feel like the main reason billy hargrove is such a ‘controversial’ character is because you can’t put him in a neat little box

#he’s complex baby #billy hargrove #i know it’s a reason #but i’m saying the MAIN reason #because you can’t say he’s good or bad #he does shitty things while being in an actively abusive situation #he reacts to trauma in a way a lot of people do but don’t talk about #he loves metal and drives a fast car #he teaches kids to swim at the pool and protects his little sister #he’s ‘cool’#he works out smokes and drinks beer #his dad calls him slurs #he’s sensitive he’s angry #he cries a lot and he knows how to pack a punch #we get his backstory and it’s not pretty #he’s messy #he’s human #and that’s why so many people relate to him #not even wank this is purely an observation #because nothing is ever black and white #people want to hate him because it’s easy #easier than understanding #which is also what happens in the real world #it’s interesting i guess #anyway i love him so much #because dacre did all this #made billy into the character he is #feeling oddly positive but it’s like i relate to billy a lot so when people say shit and i actually think about it it helps me understand #stuff in my own world if that makes sense

I don’t know if anyone here plays it and/or cares, but I have been very slowly building Castle Rysen in the Sims 4 and I think I finally have enough of it done to share a bit (apologies for poor picture quality I was using my phone to take them because I’m too tired to deal with screenshots)

It has towers too I just forgot to get a picture of them xD I made it on a hill because on the map it appears to be near the mountains.

Basement with kitchen, this is where the servants quarters will be (and also eventually the unlit side on the left will lead to the holoel chamber)

Ballroom/dining hall with little study-esque places. Hopefully I’ll figure out how to fill this out more eventually xD

Next floor has Nia and Esben’s room

Artham and Arundelle’s room

and all these empty rooms I haven’t done anything with yet xD

I headcanon that Castle Rysen has hidden passageways all over it so here’s one in the library that leads to the floor below.

Speaking of Arkhamverse im gonna yap on abt how bruce is so paranoid/afraid/ about someone he loves getting hurt because of him/being helpless to stop it he pushes them all away but that doesnt do anything but get them hurt anyway

And them getting hurt just feeds into the that fear and he blames himself -> pushes them away -> they still get hurt -> helpless to do anything the cycle goes on n on n on till it blows up (literally)

Kinda like you think the inevitable is all your relationships are taken from you out of ur control so you take control back by ending them all urself

listened to the new audio again and im just 😭😭😭 asher and darlin getting into fights as teens, darlin, even tho they weren’t super close with ash at that point, standing up for him as pack beta, ash wanting to know why darlin stayed cause in his mind it would make so much more sense for them to go back to washington given their relationship with the rest of the pack. DARLIN STAYING BECAUSE DAHLIA IS HOME AND THE PACK IS HOME AND ASHER UNDERSTANDING COMPLETELY

#i feel so so ill about them😭😭#AND THE FACT THAT THEY HAVE A DONT STARVE WORLD TOGETHER AHHHH #like licherally im gonna be sick i love them so much #darlin after doing their best to burn their bridges and distance themselves from the pack #finding their way back and being accepted more strongly than before #i could write a 20 page thesis on the complexities of darlin’s character

I am so torn between high fantasy cat society and wolf packs that have a very interesting alliance system and exile system. May do both I am very stuck between them
