okay i just have to get this information out of my brain. i’ve been reading this AMAZING george weasley x hermione granger fanfic on ao3. it’s called Lumos and it’s by a user called Treesap.

without spoiling too much basically hermione is hit with a stay obliviate spell while at the wizengamot and when she wakes up she can’t remember the last 5 years of their life. she pretty much only remembers up until right after the battle of hogwarts. she’s married to george and doesn’t remember it. it jumps between her pov in the present and george’s pov right after the battle. you get to see how their relationship grows from both perspectives.

the story is BEAUTIFULLY WRITTEN. it literally makes me scream and laugh and cry in the best way every chapter. i highly recommend this story to everyone. it’s made george x hermione my favorite ship. i talk my brothers ear off about it every week because i am so obsessed and i want more people to talk about it with so if you’ve read it or start it DM ME PLS I WILL TALK ABOUT IT FOR HOURS!!

Hello.

Small update: still working away. Life is in a different season, and after burnout, I’ve experienced a spectrum of issues with writing the end of this fic.

That said, my job will be calming down in May, and in anticipation of that, I’ve arranged for some feedback help on the fic. I don’t trust my own judgment about my writing at this point, so I decided it was time to finally stop dying like men and ask a few lovely friends if they would not mind doing some beta work with me. Graciously, they have agreed.

So, I have a deadline, I’ll have some friends to give balanced feedback and stop me when my brain decides that everything I’ve written in the chapter is rubbish (for the 1649264927448th time), I’ll have a therapist checking in with me on my mental health balance as I set goals and attempt to meet them, and I’ll have a bit of a clearer path forward. I would love to complete this fic over the summer. I will work hard on it, and embrace the lessons it gives me regardless. 💜🧡

"you're wonderful" has been my phone and computer background for two years and it brings me so much joy and peace when I look at it, and Lumos has been my constant, cherished companion for multiple years, so I'm planning on getting it tattooed on my forearm. Which font do you think I should get? If you don't want to give an opinion, I won't be offended. Excited to see what you have planned next!

Oh dear. I'm so sorry that this lingered for so long in my inbox, unanswered. This year has been far busier than anticipated, and while I've been writing/rewriting pretty consistently, I've not had the spoons for the sideblog and such very often. <3

If this is something that has yet to happen, I'd just say that 1.) I am so glad that the story has been a comfort to you. <3 I appreciate you reading along, far more than words on a blog or comment can express. 2.) !!!!?!?! I have many thoughts. Some deeply moved ("it means something to them as well, wow"), some anxious ("tattoos are a big deal"), but even if this is a road you decide you'd rather not to go down, I do hope that you know and remember you're wonderful. 3.) This is such a non-answer, but-- When someone plans to go about anything of this nature (in general, not just fic-related; fic tattoos are by no means a frequent occurrence in my life), I recommend doing whichever option you like best, as it is on your body. <3

I hope this autumn's been treating you well. I hope even more to have new content for you and everyone else sooner rather than later. Most of all, I hope you stay safe and warm. <3

Reviewing some older content for the draft and the dialogue in the opening of Inheritance (Part I) really sends me for a loop. On one hand, I look at it rather fondly. On the other, it is a Franken-passage of aggressive liberties taken with late middle English.

It really was my best go at a decipherable approximation that accounted for the era and somewhat tricky speaker demographic. (Muggles were on the cusp of modern English, though I suspect Wizarding languages evolved a slight bit differently, due to shifting norms [no statute of secrecy or Ministry, yet, and the structures of Wizarding governance are in a flux at this point. Also, Muldoon's just tried to classify the differences between "beasts" and "beings" and bungled it badly.] + regional variation + advanced mobility for the era [floo powder and brooms, at least, were both in common usage by then] + influence from surrounding speakers/areas [whether muggle or wizarding] + perception of prestige regarding those other speaker groups. There were also some curveballs to consider, like entire, other languages influencing the one shown. [Muldoon likely spoke a variety of Early Modern Irish in addition to the badly done late middle English you see in the chapter, but I do not know how to write in Classical Gaelic at all, so his note uses my cobbled together Proto-Late-Middle-Wizarding-French-English].)

TLDR: I knew/know just enough about etymology and earlier Englishes to have tried, but not nearly enough to succeed. I likely cannot fathom the plethora of ways in which I failed, actually.

Have I already apologized to the medievalists? I'm sorry, Medievalists.

It's very possible that I've talked about this on the blog already, but every time I revisit that bit, I get a little sentimental because I have such love for it, ugly duckling that it is.
