23. How would they want to die?

Oof! Going for the throat! XD

Richard is actively suicidal. With the loss of his legs, the loss of his anonymity, the very real potential of the farm knowing who and where he is, and Daniel now considering him his nemesis, Richard's preferred way of dying is as quickly and neatly as possible.

He still has his work to do, taking down the farm, but once that's over and finished, he's got nothing left to live for. His preferred manner would be hanging or good old fashioned bath-tub bleed out. Less mess from both of those ways.

Lydia doesn't think about it. She's not going to think about it. She believes the way she is most likely to die is in a fight or in some sort of 'work related accident'.

Rohid just doesn't want to die in a cage, but if that's were the path they're on leads them, it's where it leads them. That fate motivation hits Rohid square in the inability to want things for themselves, and neuters their ability to strive for anything. That includes having a preference for how they might die and trying to stay alive because one form of death isn't preferable.

Henrietta wants to never die, slipping her consciousness from body to body indefinitely.

Sal wants to pass away at a very old age surrounded by friends and loved ones who never knew anything about who he actually was as a person. If he can make the regenerator work properly, they won't even be able to expose him in death.

29. If they were real would you be friends with them?

Unlikely.

Richard and I would get along with our inherent hater nature, but he's driven and motivated and I'm far too relaxed for it to be anything but passing acquaintances. If he knew I controlled what happened to him and actively made his life harder, I imagine he'd torture me in much the same way he did Regina in HNtF.

Lydia is too materialistic for us to be strong friends, but we could be workplace friends level.

Rohid and I would likely never cross paths. We have exceptionally little in common.

Henrietta would despise me. I would despise Henrietta.

Sal wouldn't be my friend but he would try to sell me a 2010 Honda Civic that he doctored the mileage on and used acrylics to paint over the scratches on.

50. What is your favorite thing about them?

Marge Simpson voice: I just think they're neat!

Richard: his determination.

Lydia: her refusal to be dismissed.

Rohid: their convictions.

Henrietta: She's just mean and that's fun to write sometimes.

Sal: smarm.

Maria Mitchell In Her Own Words

March 21. {1855} I have held to tears just behind my eyelids for a month, not being able to cry because of the danger of affecting mother and being ready to do so, at every moment. I felt when this year came in, a sinking of the heart, as if it had more duties for me, than I could well go through with. I did not think of the many trials to which in less than three months I must be subjected.

Maria started off 1855 with heartache and fear. Several of her close friends died – two of them within four days of one another. Her mother’ Lydia, in failing health went through a very serious bout which caused Maria “great anxiety” as she served as her nurse and caregiver. Happily, Lydia made it through though her health continued to decline over many years. I assume she may have had some form of dementia or possibly even Parkinson’s Disease or perhaps a stroke to start that then kept her in a state of deterioration as years went on. But those things were not as defined, or in some cases, well known or understood then. Lydia would die in 1861, so her family’s care of her, especially Maria’s, must have been some help in keeping her with them.
