Macworld March 2001
The G4 moved into a portable form factor (even as a news item in this issue complained about Motorola's lackadaisical speed bumps to its chip). Andrew Gore's editorial was quite impressed with the titanium-cased PowerBook G4 (including how the big Apple logo on the "lid" now faced up when the portable was open and in use), and also with Apple's MP3-playing, CD-burning program iTunes. David Pogue's back-page column complained about amazon.com meddling with its book-selling section as if to "make us subsidize the struggling departments—the ones that sell cars, patio furniture, and shaving cream."

Macworld July 1998
"Macworld is a web site dedicated to products and software of Apple Inc. It is published by Mac Publishing, which is headquartered in San Francisco, California. Published since 1984, the magazine has the largest audited circulation (both total and newsstand) of Macintosh-focused magazines in North America, more than double its nearest competitor, MacLife (formerly MacAddict). Macworld was founded by David Bunnell (publisher) and Andrew Fluegelman (editor). It was the oldest Macintosh magazine still in publication, until September 10, 2014, when IDG, its parent company, announced it was discontinuing the print edition and laid off most of the staff, while continuing an online version."

The Iconfactory
The latest update to Linea Sketch is now available! From textures to thumbnail cropping, version 4.3 is packed with clever new features to make sketching on your iPad easier and more fun than ever.
By now I think you all know about my deep love for The Iconfactory. They are the brains behind Twitterrific — may Ollie rest in peace — and Wallaroo. But they also make this amazing drawing app called Linea Sketch!
The Iconfactory also does design work and consultations. They recently did the artwork for Stream’s feature in the App Store . They’re extremely talented and so easy to work with. Give them a shout if you needs some design work!
If you’re an artist you should give it a try and see how you like it.
Thanksgiving FYI
Hi, I’m Jim, an enthusiastic and dedicated home cook with more than a dozen Thanksgivings under my belt. I’ve hosted everything from small friendsgivings to giant multi-family affairs in foreign kitchens and I’ve assembled some strategies to help make the day great.
Jim is an internet pal and extremely nice fellow.
Thanksgiving FYI is Jim’s Thanksgiving newsletter chock full of tips and recipes for, you guessed it, Thanksgiving!
Who doesn’t like a good thanksgiving recipe?
I’d imagine you can still sign up and get everything he’s already published if you’d like and at $5 it’s a real steal! You even get access to a Slack so you can chat with others about the big day! 🦃
John Scalzi
FYI, I’m Writing a Film Column For Uncanny Magazine
I didn’t know it but John Scalzi was a reporter for the Fresno Bee at one time. Wild!
It’s incredible to me how much work this man churns out in a year. Here’s hoping his column is well received and long lived.

It’s not quite the end of Tumblr, but when management is supposedly sending memos with the Lord Tennyson quote about having “loved and lost,” it doesn’t look like there’s much of a future.
I’ve had a Tumblr account for years and years and I cross post to it, like I do Mastodon, but I’ve never used it as my primary blog. I’d considered it multiple times but I was never happy with their fixed taxonomy. I like to publish my posts in a Y/M/D format and Tumblr doesn’t support that. They also don’t publish static HTML which is another strike against them.
I’m bummed out by the possibility of it disappearing. It’s one of those internet properties I’d like to see stick around. It’s also looks like they’re gonna drop ActivityPub. 😔
Jason Snell • Macworld
There’s no real way to gloss over the fact that Mac sales went down 34 percent versus the year-ago quarter. And yet, for some reason, Maestri and Cook got out their Tom Sawyer paintbrushes and got to work.
At some point hyper-growth will stop. It’s just the way it is. Of course Apple offsets this by raising prices, which isn’t a surprise.
I got my first M based Mac early last year and didn’t unwrap it and start using it until early summer because I felt that my x86 Mac was fine. Luckily I decided to take the plunge to M2 land because I went from being a Director back to being a Software Engineer.
For me I’d guess this M2 could easily go for five years before it feels sluggish, and who knows, maybe beyond that?
As I like to say. I’m not compiling Photoshop or Microsoft Word. I’m just compiling iOS Apps. Even big iOS apps written in Swift build super fast. I’d even wager an M1 MacBook Air would blow the doors off my old x86 based Mac. They’re fast!

The founders and co-CEOs of failed tech company Bitwise have been charged for a $100 million fraud scheme following a federal investigation.
This one hurts. I know Irma — Irms as everyone calls her — and Jake. I’m having a difficult time believing they’d do something illegal like this and I still want to believe it was a horrible blunder. 😔

Disney’s combined Disney Plus and Hulu streaming app is on the way. As part of its fourth-quarter earnings results, Disney announced it’s going to launch the new app in beta for bundle subscribers in December, with the official launch coming in early spring 2024.
We are Hulu subscribers, Kim loves it. It makes me wonder how much it’ll change or will it literally be merging what Hulu offers directly into the app? So far Max seems to be fine with this strategy, although I’d prefer to have HBO content front and center instead of the mix of items we have today. Here’s hoping they do a great job combining the properties. I think they will.

This doesn’t surprise me. I fully expect his next term (he’ll never leave) in office to be a full on MAGA revenge tour. Our democracy will fail under the strain. We cannot let this guy become President again.

The Downstream Podcast: Listening Nectar For Streaming TV Fans
Tumblr media
Did Yellowjackets get renewed for a third season? Why is Succession ending? What's happening with Hulu? Why are most of the streaming services cancelling so many shows? When is the second season of The Last Of Us set to be released?
If a person who asks these kinds of questions, and more about the companies that make streaming TV, then Downstream is a podcast for you. The show is marketed as:" Julia Alexander and Jason Snell break down the business of binge-watching in the era of the Streaming Wars."
This is a well-produced podcast that is one of those "behind the curtain" podcasts on the entertainment industry. Downstream is akin to podcasts like The Town with Matt Belloni, and The Business with Kim Masters.
What Downstream is NOT is a Hollywood gossip or lifestyle podcast like People Magazine's capable People Every Day show. If you want to know about a rumored backstage brawl at the Grammys or how Mary J. Blige learned to love herself, listen to People Every Day.
Want to know about the Showtime / Paramount plus bundle, Netflix's rumored password sharing crackdown, and disappearing shows on HBO and HBO Max, then add Downstream to your podcast feed.
For sports fans who love to watch their favorite team or events on TV, Downstream covers a lot of streaming sports programming. In a recent episode, the hosts discussed the bankruptcy of regional sports network Bally Sports and wondered about the possibility of some major league baseballs teams going without TV or radio coverage, and the future of regional sports forward going forward.
Downstream began in September 2021 and has reliably produced an episode every two weeks since then. It's now up to episode 40. On March 7's episode titled, "Renancelled" the podcast hit a sweet spot. First, the hosts discussed the recent HBO Max announcement of more Lord of the Rings films, wondering if that's vaporware, or the movies will ever get made. As the hosts say in the episode,"has it all been done, or can you not keep a good Hobbit down?"
Second, Downstream's Sports Corner gave listeners an update on the status of bankrupt regional sports network Bally, and the possible scenario of a MLB team like the Arizona Diamondbacks not having media coverage going forward.
Third, the hosts discuss one of the most annoying trends in streaming, which is "renancelled." That is a term for when a streaming service renews a show but announces that that new season will be its last. For example, Star Trek Discovery was renewed for season five and then cancelled after that season. There is nothing more annoying as a streaming TV viewer to begin watching a show and find out that it has been canceled for the next season.
Like any ear worthy podcasts, Downstream succeeds because of its hosts.  Jason Snell writes Six Colors and has written about Apple for more than 25 years. He was the lead editor at Macworld for more than a decade. He also hosts The Incomparable and operates its podcast network.
Julia Alexander is Director of Strategy at Parrot Analytics, where she advises clients on the tectonic shifts in tech, media, and telecom. She also an author for Puck News, a prominent media company that reports on Wall Street, Hollywood, D.C, Silicon Valley, and other current events.
Now, being a solid and engaging co-host team is difficult and sometimes all about the personalities and voices who share the podcast mic. Co-hosts need pacing, the ability to share the mic, and superior active listening skills, otherwise the co-hosts are simply talking at each other, which is annoying for listeners.
Thankfully, Snell and Alexander have completely blended into a co-host team, we could call "Snexander." Both defer to each other's area of media expertise, and each has its own speaking style. Snell is more deliberate, while Alexander's pacing has a need for speed.
If the entertainment business and specifically streaming TV is one of your passions or just an interest, Downstream is a podcast for you. The co-hosts are engaging, the episode topics are thought-provoking and information-dense, and the show tackles several topics in each episode.
If I can ask the co-hosts any question, it would be this: "Why is David Zaslav, CEO of Warner Bros. Discovery (HBO Max) such a penny-pinching, content--oblivious jerk?

Fix iPhone 6 Yellow Screen Edges Problem
Do you have a iphone 6 yellow screen edges issue? This could be because Night Shift is on, but if you have an iPhone 12 or later, it could be part of a wider problem.
Tumblr media
What would you do if your iPhone broke down?
If your iPhone's display still has a yellow cast after turning off True Tone and making sure Night Shift is turned off, it's probable that your iPhone is impacted by the iPhone 6 yellow screen edges problem. In that case, follow these steps:
This problem is supposed to be software-related, thus a software update is likely - fact, iOS 14.5 (which is now in beta) is said to fix the iPhone 12 yellow screen error. More information is available here: What has changed in iOS 14.5?
In the summer of 2020, several people complained about a green tint on the iPhone 11 series display, especially in dark surroundings, although this was due to a software mistake with iOS 13.5.
If it doesn't work, or if you want to try anything else while you wait for the software update, try this:
·         Navigate to the Color Tint Settings menu.
·         Choose Accessibility.
·         Color Filters for text and display size should be chosen.
·         Tap the button next to Color Filters to activate it.
·         Color Tint should be chosen.
·         Slide the Hue and Intensity sliders until there is less yellow.
Reduce White Point
You might also try decreasing the white point, which is another option in the Display & Text Size menu. When you tap Reduce White Point, you can drag the slider till you're happy with the white. The nicest thing is that you may customize the strength of the vivid colors. It will boost the colour of your screen greatly.
Fix iPhone Yellow Screen of Death in One Click
One of the greatest tools for repairing the iPhone/iPad yellow screen of death is iMyFone Fixppo. ·         It's not too horrible that the iPhone screen appears yellow, but it can't be yellow all the time. Only at night does the yellow screen appear more appealing. The yellow tint could be caused by a number of factors.
If the yellow tint bothers you, there are a few simple measures you may do to fix it. This guide should help you understand and resolve the problem of an unwanted yellow hue. Consider visiting our website to learn more about iphone 6 yellow screen edges.
