#making fun of rathalos

so me and two friends were deciding what monster hunter monsters would post on facebook
Rathalos: posts "I hate my wife" memes everyday and tries to recapture his lost glory, because he still thinks he runs the architectural company he made with his wife and is very self-centered about the fact he's still technically the face of the company, even though he chose to not go on with the times when his wife did, leading to him not helping the company at all nowadays and everyone just tolerating him so they can enjoy his wife's presence (and her flips)
Rathian: posts about her architectural achievements and is the kind of person that posts live laugh love posts unironically. nobody really knows why she still tolerates Rathalos, but she really thinks she can fix him and that there's something beautiful inside him that if she just tries, she can get through to his good parts. thinks all the "I hate my wife" memes are just jokes. really fun at parties
Zinogre: posts about going to the gym and pictures of him flexing everyday, is super into cars because he can power his electric cars by himself. he's also very big into entomology. will go on rants about the "cars" movies if you let him because he hates how unrealistic it is
Gammoth: doesn't post anything on her own facebook page and doesn't check what any of her friends are doing on it but but runs the lesbian monster community page
Tigrex: posts conservative far-right propaganda and the wildest conspiracy theories youve ever heard, and is also every type of -phobe you can think of. posts pictures of him that have sunglasses and really big jeeps badly photoshopped onto them
Mizutsune: posts almost exclusively about anything gay pride related and uses his page as a curated gay art gallery. dunks on tigrex's posts whenever he can. takes pictures of himself while hes taking a bubble bath and reposts bath bomb videos.
Glavenus: was an edgelord sword-lover when he was a kid and posted about swords and skulls and motorcycles n shit. he took a break from social media in his teens to become an apprentice blacksmith. now middle-aged and is an accomplished blacksmith that posts about his craft whenever he can. still also posts about swords a lot.
Astalos: uses his personal facebook page for curating like a music gallery for music he likes, of any genre. hes a beginner guitar player that posts himself playing a lot. hes not very good but hes trying goddammit. also runs a music sharing community page.
Seregios: uses his page exclusively to provoke people and to post inflammatory stuff. especially likes getting a rise out of rathalos and tigrex, and also astalos because all you have to say to astalos to get him angry is tell him his taste in music sucks
Yian Garuga: self-proclaimed "metrosexual". posts dick pics and gym selfies of himself that no one wants to see except nargacuga. gasses up nargacuga's posts and sees it like a "bro thing" when he does it. he's very confused sexually and everyone knows that except him
Nargacuga: the resident gamer. posts videos of him playing video games extremely well and also posts pictures of himself in thigh highs and has a very e-girl kinda energy. very openly flirts with yian garuga under his posts but yian garuga doesnt get it
The Greats and the Dromes: all of them exclusively post in an nsfw community where all they do is share nsfw around. they use facebook for nothing else
Zamtrios: is a very successful mukbang and asmr creator. at the end of every mukbang hes inflated and he uses his inflated state to make asmr videos with the sounds coming from it. this was very weird to type out
Deviljho: dentist that reposts his tiktoks about dental health on his facebook page. his videos give out a very sinister and uncomfortable vibe even though he just sincerely wants to help people with their dental health. he also wants their teeth but he tries to fight that urge
Diablos: ex-trucker with anger issues that has a very thick southern american accent and got fired after wasting millions of dollars in company assets and causing one of the worst pile-ups in history. posts mainly about trucks, guns, and pretending he still has a job. surprisingly not as right-wing as you might think. probably has a grindr
Gold Rathian and Silver Rathalos: its them after couples therapy. they run their architectural facebook page together now after rathalos got over his inferiority complex. youd think him being silver and her being gold wouldve made his inferiority complex worse but the story about it is that he chose silver so rathian could get gold and thats his way of saying he wants his wife to be in the spotlight willingly this time
Ahtal-Ka: shes just a very sweet tailor that posts about her sewing and knitting projects to her facebook page and posts tutorials for stuff. big fan of kaiju movies and also bionicles, and she posts about her custom bionicles a lot too
Lagiacrus: has a huge catalog of fish she's fished up and streams herself fishing every day. has multiple world records in fishing achievements
Teostra, Amatsu, and Bazelgeuse: all of them use their facebook pages for furthering their political agendas for becoming president. teostra is far-right, amatsu is like centrist left, and bazelgeuse is the communist party
Seltas and Seltas Queen: seltas queen is a dommy mommy that posts bdsm videos with like 30 different seltas on a regular basis. the seltas dont actually do anything related to the account but they get paid to be there so theyre technically part of it
Valstrax: facebook comedian. has incredible comedic timing. is Jerma985 (bullfango-kelbi hybrid mix)
Nakarkos: really fucking old dude that talks about war history too much and posts videos of like american wars talking about how "kids nowadays with their darn phones that arent dying for our country"
Brachydios: owner of a very prolific demolition company who films buildings going down for clout on facebook. pays his employees surprisingly well. definitely got into legal trouble for demolishing non-condemned buildings before
Chameleos: runs one of those life hack content farms that post incredibly unhelpful, possibly untrue, sometimes dangerous life hacks for clout. no one actually knows he runs the account though. he definitely does it just because he thinks its funny
Nerscylla: really old lady that doesnt know how to use electronics and types her google searches into facebook and reposts videos of plants while saying something like "These are so wonderful!" to everything she sees that she likes
Shagaru Magala: christian parent thats a megachurch pastor and a televangelist. posts nothing but bible verses on her account and tells you that youre going to hell every single day of their life. gave her kid religious trauma
Gore Magala: depressed zoomer that listens to hyperpop and breakcore and lives off of monster energy and weed. got fucked up from shagaru constantly telling them that if they dont grow up right theyre gonna end up a chaotic gore and that has stuck with them for the rest of their life. just posts a lot of self-deprecating humor and vaguely worrying memes.
Kushala Daora: oppenheimer/amatsu's biggest fan. self proclaimed "centrist political analyst" that just so happens to agree with like every dictator and warmonger in history. will go out of their way to argue under the posts of like anyone thats left-leaning. loves seeing other people in pain.
Malfestio: blue-collar office worker that has no dreams in its life. posts like hypnosis videos on facebook that like are actually super popular but he doesnt feel like he can make a living off of it so he hasn't even tried yet
Duramboros: the activist. goes out and protests like every good cause out there. posts about charities and parades that are going on around. grows vegetables on its back to feed homeless people

You know, I've come to discover one of my fave things to do in FFXIV! I'm discovering I'm getting a LOT of enjoyment out of just joining PFs and helping people out. Especially when I need nothing from whatever they're running.
Yesterday I helped a lot of people!
I helped: 1 person get 3 mounts (Lakshmi, Byakko, and Seiryu) 2 people work on getting the Rathalos mount (got a whistle drop and farmed out scales) 1 person run Saint. Mocs on hard to get a TT card (and got it on our final run cause he was getting tired!)
There's a bit of mutual benefit in it though, cause I went Warrior the whole time!
Tumblr media
I GOT MY WAR BEAR BABY.
And due to rec. from one of the party members during the Rathalos runs, I'll be doing DRK next. Which means I need to learn that insane ass opener because I refuse to look bad in front of other people, despite my rampant tankxiety.

I recently ruined my work-fun balance by getting into Monster Hunter World, and I was subsequently inspired to make acrylic charms of a drippy poison-filled boy
Tobi-Kadachi, Paolumu, Rathalos, and Kulu-Ya-Ku are also in the works

Yeah I like pokemon, my username came from the mega absol tcg card even, but I kinda like Monster Hunter Stories more than the Pokemon games tbh.
I was given the 3DS game from my parents because it had a dragon on the cover (Ratha the rathalos who is has been drawn in the pic) and it was a lot of fun! The world was cool and the process of obtaining and making your monsties stronger took a bit more effort than Pokemon but it was still very rewarding! I never finished the game since I lost the cartridge years ago and never found it, but I recently bought another and I'm waiting for it to get here! I even got a new microSD card so I can start a new save (they save to the SD card and not the cartridge).
Honestly, I'm really excited to play it again after all these years and see my beloved monsties again <3

crocheting is fun in general, but there’s something particularly satisfying about creating Monster Hunter monsters, you know? You start with just yarn and some fluff, and then at a certain point you’re holding a little guy! A MonHun beast! My beastie bestie! (Also I’ve made this joke before, but it’s still amusing to me every time I start with a bunch of monster parts and stitch them together into a monster, since MonHun usually has you start with a monster and then chop off its parts, lol)
he’s approximately 11 in / 30 cm from tail to snoot. Only about 2.5 in / 6 cm tall! I used muuuuch smaller yarn than the pattern called for, just size 3 with a 3.125 mm hook. I think the original pattern expected like an 8 mm hook or something, which is significantly larger than even the hook I made my ginormous Snorlax with! Respect to anyone who feels like making something that big, but I like them just being little like this, what can I say?
I crocheted with embroidery floss for the eyes using a 1.40 mm hook, which was a new experience for me. To be clear, I was using all six strands of embroidery floss (most floss comes with six strands per skein, and then I’ll just use one or two strands at a time for most cross-stitch projects), not just a single thread or anything… I’m sure that’s theoretically possible but I’m not THAT far down the rabbit hole quite yet, lol. The experience of using floss to crochet with isn’t that hard except for the black parts, which are ABSOLUTELY impossible to see, but thankfully that was only a little bit of the project this time.
like most of my little guys, I’m proud of the fact that he can stand up and balance on his own (with neither his head nor his tail touching the table) if you put in a little effort and mess with him a bit! He’s not STURDY (he’ll fall over if jostled at all) but he’s STABLE (he won’t fall over just from his own weight).
I used a couple pipe cleaners twisted together to stiffen the wings a bit. Not sure if I did a perfect job arranging the wire, but considering that I’ve never done it before and I was just kind of guessing where it should go, I think they turned out alright. You can’t exactly pose them and have them stay, but they also aren’t just totally floppy. Good enough for a first attempt, I’d say.

part 2 of me being unhinged with a freecam mod for mhrise on pc. documenting my fun observations of things u don't normally see. this post is for kamura village, and there is a lot more here than in the elgado post so please enjoy
Tumblr media
just wanna point out how the instructor eats dango through his cowl. i love him with my whole heart
Tumblr media
so i recently looked through the base rise artbook and it mentions how there's supposed to be an entire residential area behind the tatara forge in the main plaza. well... it turns out a majority of it is modeled, but it's inaccessible. the housing district is where the villagers live, but it also has buildings that caters to visitors such as aristocrats and outside hunters
Tumblr media Tumblr media
here's a clear shot of what it looks like inside those barely open doors in front of the forge, behind elder fugen. shout out to these two smithies... they're the real ones
Tumblr media
this is a view of looking into kamura from outside the front gate, i just thought it'd be neat. if you turn the camera around and try to leave kamura you just run into layers and layers of tree textures until you clip through and see the skybox lol
Tumblr media
at the buddy plaza. a nice shot of the entrance to the training grounds, with the palamute statues leading you to it. fun fact, if you look at the buddy plaza before going in, it's shrouded in a black screen to make it look foggy/obscured from the outside
Tumblr media
a close up of the wirebug hives where the villagers raise them. sometimes they land and they look completely different from when they're flying (because they stop the iconic glowing?), it reminds me of the jewel bug model in animal crossing lol
Tumblr media Tumblr media
rondine's ship is surprisingly detailed when you get to see it from a different angle. she has an open air bed with a bookshelf over it, and in the open door below, there are two hammocks for her felynes in the room which is so cute (forgot to take a pic of them)
Tumblr media
if you turn the camera around, rondine has an actual clear photo of herself and the two felynes hanging on a wall
Tumblr media
here's one of my favorite discoveries, chino's paintings are actually of previous game's areas like bherna and yukumo! and if you look at what chino is currently painting, it's a wip of the toadversary
Tumblr media Tumblr media
at the training area, if you look at all those moving targets, there are felynes running back and forth placing new targets and boxes
Tumblr media
i tried to move the camera outside of the entrance of the training area while i was in there, a lot of stuff isn't visible but weirdly the palamute statues are still fully modeled (understandable) even though i don't even think you can see them from the dock
Tumblr media
at the guild hub. this is how it looks like inside otemai's dango shop
Tumblr media
when you wait for a while, hojo starts yeeting messages at minoto... if you look at what he's holding before he throws them, it's drawings of rathalos. they're all rathalos lol (if you move the camera behind minoto and watch her catch them, she actually puts all the papers under her desk and they load out of existence once you can't see them)
Tumblr media
just a shot of these guys because i appreciate them and found out there's a subset of nakago oshi which is so powerful
Tumblr media
so if ur inside the guild hub nothing rly loads past that gate beside minoto...
Tumblr media
but if you're outside, it leads to the place where hinoa is singing in the credits. nice wedding venue. just saying that for no particular reason
Tumblr media
inside your house... there's some baskets hanging above the hearth with herbs in them. just thought they were neat
Tumblr media
if you were wondering about him... yes. fukashigi is fully modeled behind the wall. his teacup is stuck to his hand in a weird way too lol
Tumblr media
lastly, enjoy your housekeeper in your bathtub with your low res cohoot rubber ducky

Sell me on monster hunter, go
OHHHH YOU'RE GONNA REGRET ASKING THIS ARE YOU READY
Concept is very simple: Kill hig monster before it kills you (hence the name)
Onto the selling points
Monster Design
The monster design is widely regarded as some of the best out there. In a series dedicated to fighting monsters, it has to be, and it doesn't disappoint. It ranges from dinosaurs, to wyverns, to dragons, to things that don't fit into any of these categories! The designs also generally have a basis in some concept of biology, taking notes from real life creatures and using fantasy concepts to create creatures that feel almost believable.
A few monsters found in Rise, for your consideration: Aknosom, Rathalos, Zinogre, and Magnamalo
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
These are just a sampler, from some of the Early stuff in base Rise. There's quite a few things you can fight, and the DLC features some of my absolute favorite monsters ever: Gore Magala and Malzeno
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Gameplay
Rise admittedly works a bit differently from classic MonHun, but the base concepts are still there.
In this game, it's all about hitting the monster and trying not to get hit. You have to memorize attack patterns, dodge them at the right time, figure out where to get the best damage in. You're opponent doesn't have a health bar; rather, you have to try and determine how close you are to winning based on the monster's behavior. It gets slower, shows signs of damage, will often run off to rest when near death.
There's also not a standard player leveling system. Instead, you upgrade your gear, and get better at playing. In order to get new gear, you have to kill monsers, and use their parts to make new weapons and armor. The armor design is also very neat, and occasionally very very silly.
Speaking of weapons, there are 14 different different weapon types, one for everyone. I prefer the fast paced and acrobatic Dual Blades, while my mom prefers the heavy hitting and complex Charge Blade. Theres simple, theres complicated, there's close combat, and ranged. Whatever floats your boat!
Rise's special mechanic that sets it apart is Wirebugs. Think of them as a gear piece that lets you grapple hook in midair, and perform all kinds of fancy moves. They take some getting used to, but once you master them, you'll be virtually unstoppable.
Pets
One of Monster Hunter's longtime traditions are Palicoes! They are little cat friends that help you fight in combat, and can also act as support. Very cute and useful.
Rise is also the first game to introduce Palamutes! If you're more of a dog person, congrats, you can have a dog that will help you in combat. They have different uses than Palicoes, so mix and match as needed
Music
THIS IS ONE OF THE MOST UNDERRATED PARTS OF THE SERIES I SWEAR
I could talk about about the soundtrack for days and days. Some tracks are better than others, of course, but they're generally very good at creating a good atmosphere
For your perusal:
Proof of a Hero, the Main Theme of the series. Often played in the final phase of major boss fights (The version I have linked is the original, and doesn't actually play in Rise. Rise has it's own version, as does the DLC, Sunbreak, which has my favorite version)
Spark of Blue, Zinogre's theme (a personal favorite)
Barbarous Beast, Magnamalo's Theme
Brilliance Eclipsed, Gore Magala's Theme
Scarlet Feast, Malzeno's Theme
The soundtrack is really fun, and Rise puts a fun twist on several tracks
Co-Op Play
You can play alone, but it's really fun to play with friends. Nothing like watching your buddy get smacked across the map and dying. Up to four friends can play together, and you can tackle everything in the game alongside them
Okay I have to pay attention to stream now but this is my sales pitch hope you enjoyed

Having watched the trailer a few times now, I did notice something that makes me excited!
Tumblr media
As you can see, there seems to be some type of bowgun in the Hunter's satchel. Meaning that potentially we'll be able to switch weapons mid-fight! That's such a neat idea and honestly it reminds me of my personal speculation I had for MH6.
I had fun idea that the next MH would have something called a 'Wingdrop' or 'Drakedrop' where you could throw something like a paintball or fire a flare in the air and then a wingdrake would drop a box/satchel/locker of a premade equipment loadout that you could dynamically switch to mid-hunt without going back to the camp. You could even have a separate one for items so you can restock too!
My idea was since World focused so much on Bio-Energy and the natural ecosystem, that the next MH would potentially focus on 'Evolution', I.e be the new modifier phenomena such as Tempered in World and Afflicted/Risen in Rise. Even have the new Elder Dragon threat being a monster that force 'evolves' a monster and is throwing natural evolution out of whack. You can maybe even toss in some lore on why subspecies and variants seemingly pop out of nowhere so quickly/change so rapidly.
So monsters could 'evolve' mid hunt and thus change up their ressistences towards the weapon you're currently using. Let's say your fighting a Rathalos with a thunder weapon or a raw weapon, when you cross a certain threshold of damage with it, he begins to 'evolve' and nullifies/resists thunder damage or raw damage from then on. Meaning that if you were a bow/dual blade build you'd be screwed and do way less damage, causing you to call in a drop and switch your gear mid-fight to one that works! Maybe even have it where you can stun the monster by leading it under the drop.
Of course I thought on it and realized that that would be way too many moving parts, and you'd also have to make two builds for a single monster, they would have to scale every monster for every resistance type, you'd have to make sure its all correct and then it just all fell apart. But it was a fun little makeshift idea.
Regardless, I'm happy it may seem that one of my speculations may come true.

wyverian bio headcanons have got me in a vicegrip currently. rambles under the cut if you're interested!
Tumblr media
still learning how i wanna draw humanoids but a crappy sketch as visual aid... i think wyverians are fully digitigrade and MUCH more creatureish than capcom will let them be.... awful rambling incoming.
digitigrade legs with 4 claws and a raptor-like dewclaw! their hands are also scaled,,, they've got little "pawpad" like darker markings on their hands. more often than not certain lineages bear striking resemblances to certain modern-day monsters! alwin looks quite like a legiana, and chief gara (yes he's a wyverian! i forgot too. its ok) looks like a rathalos! they've ALL got tails!!! wyverians vary a LOT based on both lineage and point of origin, the nua te wyverians tend to be taller due to a less pronounced digitigrade leg, and have funny eyebrow-like scales right above their eyes. meanwhile, rutoh wyverians are quite a bit more. well. wyvern like. gara is an interesting case because as far as i know he's the only wyverian in mahana? don't quote me on that though. there may be others. but he's pretty unique looking, a big thick rath-like tail and a really pronounced bend to his legs almost like an actual rath! the artbook shows off his dewclaw in his shoes which is super fun to me so im keeping that. most wyverians don't wear shoes i'd think. their claws are too sharp! not to mention their dewclaw would get in the way.
they've got slitted eyes for sure. which can make them look a tad bit freaky at night when the light reflects from them.
i'll probably make a more in-depth thing about wyverian spec bio soon because its really fun to me

When Capcom revealed that Monster Hunter Rise was removing hot & cold drinks and automatically tracked monsters, quite a few people got worked up about how they were "removing the hunting from monster hunter." Despite the fact that the drinks were mostly just busywork in new monster hunter, and "tracking" has only ever been running around like a chicken without its head until you either spot & paintball the monster or, in world, find enough glowy tracks the game skips the pretense and just lets you follow it.
I finally got around to playing through Freedom Unite earlier this year with a friend (having started with 4U and played every game P3rd and later), and had a ton of fun with it despite a rather different experience from 5th gen.
That experience fully elucidated that Monster Hunter exists in a sort of tension with itself, between "preparation matters" and "co-op boss battler." Recent games, especially 5th gen, have leaned hard into the latter, especially with the massive boost to player options & monster health to compensate.
Every 4th and 5th gen game has made managing items less important, with automatic farms, item loadouts, and 5th gen's in-quest restock. Power & defense charms/talons are just small speedbumps you're waiting to pick up (Rise tried to make this somewhat interesting by making you constantly starving for funds so being them had an impact), but once you have them you stick them in your inventory and never worry. 4U added item loadouts so you rarely needed to check your inventory; I remember going back to 3U, I hated the lack of item loadouts, and would constantly forget to restock stuff.
Freedom Unite I was checking my box before every quest, and the only times I forgot items were because I wasn't thinking ahead when I did so. You have 24 inventory slots in that game, with no field or gunner pouch. My friend and I started carrying herbs around with us for additional healing, and in high rank added combo books so we could make mega potions without worry. Eventually they became rarely necessary, but it was still an active choice for how we used those inventory slots.
Traps, flash bombs, and tainted meat took up precious inventory space, but, if used well, could make our hunts far more successful. Bombs weren't just a thing we carried around for when a monster went to sleep, but saved for breaking parts like shogun ceanataur claws.
Every fight felt like a ticking clock on our available inventory, and it was riveting. Since monsters generally died without too many hits, we had less of a rush to just do damage like in 5th gen but rather were focusing on surviving while getting in the occasional necessary blow.
4U approaches the feel of the latter element, but inventory doesn't play as large a part. And the health bloat of 5th gen monsters, plus longer tells allowing for more reactive, rather than proactive, play is a completely different feel. Iceborne Fatalis gets the closest to that feel, but that's one fight in a massive game.
5th gen is fantastic to play with friends and just cycle through fights without much worry, and Sunbreak is the most fun I've had as a lance main in the heat of a fight, but there's just that little bit missing to achieve that.
I would love to see 6th gen try to revisit that feeling, but a big part of "preparation matters" is allowing monsters to get locked down with good prep. I remember in 4U with an SnS I could fully lock down a g-rank rathalos for 90% of the fight to help with farming. With sonic & flash bombs getting their capacity & effectiveness reduced (though sunbreak at least made flash bombs always work but provide fewer free hits, which I appreciate) and monsters falling / getting exhausted less, preparation can't really matter as much. And Rise's Endemic Life, "prep" is just running around the map before you run at the monsters; it approaches that feel, but you have the whole map at your disposal, instead of making choices.
I think the game could really make prep matter again by taking Rise's endemic life and instead making equivalents in hunting equipment you bring with you to hunts, in a similar slot to mantles. Provide a few big, punchy options that have specific effectiveness and reward knowing a monster & how to exploit it beyond just when it'll do which attack.

Back from Supanova Melb and had a great time 🥳🥳 Thank you to everyone who visited my humble little booth!
I'm happy to announce that I managed to sell the whole remaining stock of my SetsuPomu comic! 🎉🎉
I also feel confident enough to organise another print run in the future as well for anyone who missed the initial run!
It was my very first time tabling at a con so I didn't really know what to expect? I didn't bring many goods. Just those shikishis that I've been working on over the year and some of my remaining books that were spares. I could only bring a small number of books because they're really heavy and I'm weak and pathetic 😔
I didn't think the low book stock would be a problem going in because I kinda assumed they wouldn't sell? Love Live Nijigasaki doesn't have a huge presence locally so my expectations weren't set high. I would've been happy to sell a single copy honestly 😅
So when I did sell that first copy I was super surprised! I'm so sorry to the one who bought that first book! I was acting a bit weird bc I was just in disbelief that someone wanted to buy the comic ahahhah
I was like "Huh??? You want to buy it???? Huh???? For real???"
I seriously didn't think I'd sell the rest of the remaining stock. Sure I only had like 10-15 books leftover from the online sales but I only brought 5 books on the first day!!! I ended up leaving the con early and scurrying home to pick up more. And that commute was about 2 hours so it was super exhausting (esp since my day began at 6am 😅)
I'm still super surprised that people actually bought my book! Like ???? All sorts of people too. Both fans of Love Live! and people who had no context of the series. Different demographics too! Again, I'm so thankful for the support!
It was nice seeing that there were still LL fans in Melbourne as well. Love Live! is a bit rare to see in artist alleys these days, so a lot of people stopped by to mention they were Love Live fans 😊
Most people were Muse or Aqours fans and didn't make any purchases but I was still happy to meet them. Again, it's nice knowing there are other LL fans around!
I'm also pleased to announce that there are at least 5 Setsuna Yuki fans in Melbourne...! (Including me...) As well as Nijigasaki fans 🎉🎉
One person was wearing a Dive! long sleeve and I was like !!!! I have the exact same top at home 😭😭😭 I respect it!!! I also know that it's expensive as hell to export so I doubly respect it 🥲
I definitely want to keep representing Nijigaku at cons 💪!!
It's also worth noting that this con was a general pop culture con. So the audience is more mixed with Western pop culture. It made finding those LL fans extra surprising!
During the day I had a lot of time to burn. While I'm happy with the outcome of the con, it's not like I made tons of sales. My store only has a small amount of stock for a niche (compared to having a million prints and little knick knacks) so it's pretty expected. But yes, I was just idling for a lot of it.
I did end up drawing some quick shikishi on the spot.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I ended up selling Rathalos and Yu! (Mizuki is looking for a home still.) I was also asked if I was taking shikishi commissions which feeds my ego, but I did end up rejecting bc I didn't feel confident enough with these quick ones to take commissions just yet. (In general I reject commissions anyways bc I'm not great at them...)
A neat thing is that taking the hour do draw that one Rathalos drew some Monster Hunter fans to the table! I managed to have a few little conversations about the game bc of that. I think I'll make more MH shikishi in the future since it's fun to draw. It's also funny to think about my booth becoming LL x MH since the communities are pretty different 😂😂
Overall, I think the con was a success! I have a bunch of cute stories to tell but I think I'll leave it for another post. Financially, I did end up making back all of my expenses! So that's a success in that front as well.
I'd like to do more cons in the future! But honestly it's a little hard for me to be accepted as I tend to make really little content. (Just a few books and shikishi). I think I can only really do half tables...
But I'll do my best!
Once again, thanks to everyone who visited!
Stay tuned for my shop updating to include all the spare goodies. Now that this con is over I can sell them online 🥳

A crimson beast with sapphire wings lay in the ferns at the middle of the clearing, his heart fraught with sorrow and loneliness. There is rustling, and the faint beat of a heart which he senses . . . but he knows its not his rider's. Forlorn he exhales through his nostrils, steam rising up in plumes . . . and he shifts, looking away from one who stumbled upon him.
There was rustling indeed, but unfortunately it was not the beast's rider at all. Instead, an Eevee and a completely different trainer appeared.

Eevee was having fun bouncing around in the open for the first time all day, but he quickly stopped when he noticed something huge right in front of it? "[Ee--Eevoi??]" What was that creature?
Leaf finally caught up and was able to quickly pick up her little Pokémon. "There you are, you slippery you. I know you're excited today, but that doesn't mean running off, mister."
"[Voi]" Eevee pointed at the strange beast.
"Huh? What's the matt--"
Tumblr media
"Wh--" Leaf had to make a double-take. "Wh--what is that?"
More importantly, why did it look like it was looking away. Was something the matter with it?
Nonetheless, Leaf had to take a second. It... resembled some Pokémon that she's seen, but she's never encountered anything like it, and she's gone multiverse travelling. What was going on here?
Well, only one way to find out, and that was to figure out what's the matter first.
With Eevee in hand, Leaf slowly approached the Rathalos and reached out to lightly touch it. Hopefully she doesn't accidentally prompt an encounter against it by doing this.
Tumblr media
"Heyyy.... What's the matter, big guy? What's gotten you so down?"

I would like to contribute some questions for your "get to know the Author" post! What first drew you to the Monster Hunter franchise? Was it the main games or the Stories spin offs? Have you ever played Stories 2 and if so what is your main party? Do you like sushi / sashimi? OwO
Oooo, these are all very fun questions! 😁 Thank you for sending some in!
1.) And gosh...I've been with this franchise for nearly twelve years or so! It all started with little kid me watching my brother play Monster Hunter Tri on the Wii. Specifically when you encounter Lagaicrus for the first time. I was in awe of all the creatures and the way the ecosystems tied together. Eventually, he let me make a file and play it. Since then, I've been hooked to the franchise. From Tri all the way to Rise! And the Spinoffs as well!
2.) I've played Stories 2 more times than I want to admit XD. My main party switches quite a bit but stays the same for the most part. Sooooo, here's my end of game party: A Silver Rathalos named Halo. A Golden Rathian named Saskia. A Soulseer Mizutsune named Kitsune. A Boltreaver Astalos named Folgura. A Velkhana named Gwyneira. A Nargacuga named Blackwind.
3.) No XD I am not a fan of raw fish. However, I appreciate how colorful it ends up being! Sushi dishes always look so pretty!

Yeah, this was good. The story was nice, the stages were fun, the extra hunting tools are pretty neat - especially the Wiredrone. The writing captured a lot of little details in regards to Monster Hunter, from simple name-dropping to evocative descriptions. And of course so many cat puns. The sound effects were really nice too.
The songs we got - Proof of a Hero (the one that plays in the main menu of the event) and the Generations Arena Theme were absolutely choice selections. Bit of a shame that the regular stage theme just reused Who is Real music, but it's fine. It's kinda fitting in a way too I guess.
The way they described Yato's tracking at the beginning of the story was very reminiscent of how you actually do it in World. Loved the rickety palico cart parts, very nice. The description of the Rathalos attacks by the Felyne Scholar gave a really accurate feeling of what they're like. I really enjoyed that moment in Kashiwau's home where the two felynes make an antidote and the Artisan comments on how new recipes no longer use Blue Mushrooms. The steak roasting minigame moment was all too accurate. It's easy when you figure out to go with the music, but when you start out you're likely to mess it up. and oh my god the descriptions of Corne's Long Sword moves after the final battle were so awesome!!! I LOVED THAT! That scene was made for me!

how big would nocts dragon be? bc imagine after noct gets out of the crystal and it's the long dark and his dragon is huge at this point (like maybe noct is the size of its pupil, kind of big) so it's just be this huge shadow that you can't see until it hits light (and what abt auleas dragon?)
[Previous Dragon AU ask]
Hmm, I've always kinda sucked with accurately describing size/scale, but for the dragons there's a few different visuals I like to refer to when I think about their size.
Zuko's dragon in tlok for example;

The general size of a Rathalos/Rathian in Monster Hunter
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Merlin and Kilgarrah

Also for when Noct was young, I think of a progression from, like, Aithusa from Merlin to Gregory from The Sandman, progressing up to somewhere along those pictures above.
I think a noticeable growth in Noct's dragon is a fun thought, it'd give an excuse for little moment where Noct's amazed as they come face to face for the first time in years, the whole; "Is that you? You grew too, huh?" with some gentle nose and face pets and ;u; GHHH that just makes me want to clutch my chest.
At the same time, I don't know if I'd want either dragon to be too big. I guess one of my personal reference points for "too big" would probably be like, the size of Bahamut here:
Tumblr media
or Aang and the lion turtle:
Tumblr media
Because they both essentially look like specks in comparison to who they're standing in front of. And, personally, I don't think I would want Noctis to be a speck next to either dragon.
If anything, out of both dragons I think Aulea's would be the bigger one. Bigger, older, wiser, maybe just a wee bit stronger. And I 1000% think Noct should get sandwiched/nosed between the two affectionately upon his return. The two can roar in joy together about it and people can hear it for miles!! It shakes the ground and skies around them!
And maybe Nyx, the bros, Cor or whoever is close by at the time hasn't heard a roar like that for years now. Not since Noct left. So when they hear/feel it, they assume it can only mean one thing.
He's back.
