Dear Gus & Magnus,

When my biometric screening earlier this year showed some less than desirable HDL/LDL numbers, I bought myself a Fitbit, which motivated me to keep my body moving more. Every hour I had not taken at least 250 steps, the device on my wrist pinged me, and I responded to it, standing up from my desk and making three laps around the office. At first, my coworkers shot me looks of confusion when I made my laps, then we all got used to it and the act became just one of those things that makes our office…our office.

But when we were in Frisco recently, I forgot to charge my Fitbit and it died, so I took it off and put it on the bedside table in the hotel room. It wasn’t until we were hours toward home that I remembered I didn’t pack my Fitbit. I feel certain Magnus knocked it off the table and into the floor, probably between the table and the wall, and I never saw it.

Back in the office, my coworkers noticed I no longer took laps around the office, or if they didn’t then they at least heard my complaints about the missing Fitbit. This afternoon I came around the corner to discover a surprise “Mandatory Fun Walk to Raise Awareness About Guy’s Missing Fitbit and HDL/LDL Levels,” complete with a shrine to the missing Fitbit, water stations for participants, and an awards ceremony.
