Propaganda
Michèle Mercier (Angélique, marquise des anges and its sequels)—Mostly known for her main role in the Marquise Angelique series and my god she's so gorgeous there and an absolute marvelous character. Go watch it. I have no words. One of those people that make me go "I'm so fucking gay".
Jayne Mansfield (The Girl Can't Help It, Will Success Spoil Rock Hunter?, The Loves of Hercules)— The smartest "dumb blonde" who ever lived. Seriously, she knew five languages, was trained in the violin and piano, studied drama, had a super high IQ and loved dogs. She was arguably more well-known for her publicity stunts than any of her films, which is a shame because she is so freaking funny in both The Girl Can't Help It and Will Success Spoil Rock Hunter where her genius for spoofing her own bimbo image fits perfectly in the live-action cartoon tone they're going for. Like all her already stunning features are so exaggerated that every man around her is basically turned into the bonk, go to horny jail meme (as in this scene she struts around and causes a truly insane number of boner jokes). Still, those PR stunts gave us one of the most iconic old Hollywood photos of all time where Sophia Loren is side-eying her very famous cleavage as it threatens to spill out of her dress [attached below]. Not related to hotness but she was also the mother of Mariska Hargitay (aka Olivia Benson from SVU!)
This is round 1 of the tournament. All other polls in this bracket can be found here. Please reblog with further support of your beloved hot sexy vintage woman.

3, 5 (sorry I love pain), 20 😇, 25, 29, 30
3. three songs you were recently obsessed with
I'll Be (Celine Dion)
Our Song (P!nk)
Queen of Me (Shania Twain)
5. three songs you wish you could forget (because listening to them hurts)
Fix You (Coldplay) why must every show use this to kill off characters. It hurts. Especially Mel from Packed to the Rafters.
Running Up That Hill (Placebo) The OC.
Moving Oleta (Reba McEntire) it just breaks my heart.
for the record, I love these songs so I don't actually wanna forget them.
20. three songs that remind you of the person who sends this one
is it cheating if I use songs you recommended to me?
You Matter to Me (Sara Bareilles)
You Learn to Live Without (Idina Menzel)
Beautiful (Jessie Mueller)
25. three favourite songs of 2017
How Does a Moment Last Forever (Celine Dion)
Back to God (Reba McEntire)
What About Us (P!nk)
29. three songs that influenced you most (some songs change or save lives)
My Heart Will Go On (Celine Dion) my one and only memory of Titanic is seeing Celine singing this at the end of the VHS. I was SO TINY. And then, also, in grade school, our music teacher wanted us to do this song, and she picked me for the main part of it. It changed something in me. I performed it a million times in my childhood.
You Needed Me (Anne Murray & Shania Twain) I love Anne's duets album so much. It's this version of the song specifically that hits me right in the heart. I love these two women and it really is such a comfort. It also makes me think of my aunt.
If I Had Only Known (Reba McEntire) I mean, it speaks for itself. But to put it simply, grief never does go away. It informs every decision I make, every breath that I take. It's the not knowing, on top of the loss. Please tell the people you love that you love them while you can.
30. three songs you really want your followers to know (for reasons other than all those above)
Mariska Hargitay (Preston Hull) it's just... lmao iconic
As If (Sara Evans) the music video is so fun
You're Gonna Be (Reba McEntire) it's just a beautiful song. I love mother/child relationships dearly, and this song just wraps it up so beautifully.

Law & Order: Special Victims Unit (1999-Present)
Around the same time that Miss Congeniality was released, one of TV’s most famous crime fighting female characters was introduced to the world through a show that would become revered for its move towards portraying the female detective character in a much more nuanced and complex manner than ever before. That character is none other than Detective Olivia Benson of Law & Order: SVU. Prior to this show many female detectives were still falling into the “one of the guys” or “sexy sidekick” tropes, stereotypes that were still evident and alluded to in Miss Congeniality. However, Law & Order: SVU on the other hand is seen as one of the first shows to start having male characters take a back seat, while strong female characters were given the spotlight. The nature of the crimes being solved on this show (rape, domestic violence, etc.) also paved the way for feminine qualities like compassion to be seen as assets to the female detective and not a point of weakness.
This show and it’s lead character have become iconic in the world of television with the Washington Post even reporting “America’s ideal female television character is Olivia Benson”. According to the survey conducted and discussed in this article “Twenty-one percent of the 1,200 survey respondents named “Law and Order: Special Victims Unit” main character Olivia Benson as their favorite female character on television, a finding that held consistent across genders and almost all demographics.” This survey stated that viewers ideal female character would be “independent and compassionate, as well as intelligent, self-confident, strong-willed, beautiful and tough”, a list that essentially summarizes the character of Detective Olivia Benson. It is clear based on these findings that as feminism became popularized and widely accepted in the U.S., more and more viewers were looking to watch these complex female characters in positions of authority. Actress Mariska Hargitay who plays Detective Benson commented on playing a complex female character stating “that part of me, that fierce, badass lioness…We play these parts, we have our little selves, all our complex part of our selves, and we draw that self and yeah, she’s awesome.” In recent years audiences have been drawn to these nuanced female characters and it is clear Law & Order: SVU has played a large role in craving the path for all the future female detective characters we would grow to love in the 2010s and today.
