7 Couples Who Starred in Hallmark Channel MoviesTogether
Though they’ve been married sine 2008, Winter and Sanchez didn’t share the screen until 2019’s A Taste of Summer. And including their two children, Dylan and Sebella, was a major factor in their decision to work together for the first time. “We had talked about if and when we were going to act together,” Winter told MediaVillage. “It had to be the right thing and something fun and cute that was a…

🐾🐈 🐕 Hallmark is so much more than just great Movies! #AdoptionEverAfter “Inside the New Pet Bungalow on the Set of #Hallmark’s #HomeAndFamily. Hallmark Channel’s daily chat show Home & Family recently celebrated the addition of a whole new wing to the show’s “home,” and it’s a very special place. Dubbed the Pet Bungalow, the plush environment provides a quiet and relaxing atmosphere for the multitude of up-for-adoption pets the show helps place every day as a part of Hallmark’s Adoption Ever After initiative. It's a space of which Home & Family's resident pet adoption expert #LarissaWohl (pictured at top) is particularly proud. "I believe this whole thing was the brainchild of our executive producer Tracey Verna," she explained in an exclusive interview with MediaVillage. "We weren’t sure if it would be called a sanctuary, a bungalow or a pet palace, but I thought it was a great idea. I didn’t think it would actually happen and now here we are! (Crown Media Family Networks president and chief executive officer Bill Abbott was on set while we were talking about the idea, and he simply loved it. He was like, “Yes, this sounds amazing!" With so many needy animals coming through the show, Wohl said, having a place that provides safety and comfort is paramount in ensuring they are seen at their best. "While we try not to break the fourth wall too much on television, what people don’t understand is being here is a first for the animals," she explained. "They don’t know me and sometimes it's completely dependent on their temperament, how they feel on a particular day, and some of the timid ones are harder than others in terms of getting them to relax and chill out. "My goal is to acclimatize them a little bit," she continued. "Just get to know them and for them to get to know me so they feel some familiarity. That way when it’s camera time they don’t appear to be too nervous. Having this area, we can do that. They aren’t in the middle of the show being filmed. It’s quiet, and they get a chance to just be themselves." Thanks to the quiet, soothing atmosphere free of the hustle and bustle of the show, the Pet Bungalow is a serene space. The addition of orthopedic beds provides a comfortable and cozy space for senior pets, and thanks to cat whisperer Jackson Galaxy (who provided his input on the space) the addition of a maze by Catastrophic Creations (above) provides curious felines with an activity space. "The name of the game is to showcase why a particular animal should be in your home," said Wohl. "So, we get to see them playing, or relaxing, or even exploring. It allows the animals to showcase themselves in their best light. If they want to play and they break something, it’s not a big deal because this is their space. It’s air-conditioned, and I have to say, it's better than [my space] and I’m about ready to move in." "On a heartfelt note, while it’s beautiful and glamorous, the reason behind it is the animals," she added. "It's about their comfort and the hopes of getting them homes." Wohl told me almost 1100 animals have found forever homes from Home & Family alone and gives special credit to the executives at Hallmark for their effort. (Wohl is pictured above, center with H&F co-hosts Debbie Matenopoulos and Cameron Mathison.) "I thank Bill Abbott and everyone for what they did with this space," she shared. "It means everything to me. Constructing this whole thing is a very different process to a makeover thing for a person, and I think everyone involved did a fantastic job making this pet perfect." -Steve Gidlow MediaVillage (Behind the scenes in Hollywood)

Michelle Morgan of UP Faith & Family’s "Heartland" on Why the Series Still Resonates After 15 Seasons
Beloved Canadian series Heartland this week is returning to streaming service UP Faith & Family for its 15th season. Now one of the longest-running scripted dramas in its native country, and based on the book series by Lauren Brooke, the series follows the adventures of sisters Amy and Louise "Lou" Fleming on their Albertan-based family ranch.
Throughout its run characters have come and gone, but series leads Amber Marshall (Amy) and Michelle Morgan (Lou) have remained constants. For Morgan, joining the series in 2007 was something she wanted, yet never envisioned as a major part of her life. "I definitely remember auditioning for it because I remember really resonating with the character of Lou," she shared in an exclusive MediaVillage interview. "Sometimes you audition, and hope you've done the best you can. But I immediately read it and I felt, 'Oh, I know who this is, and I know how she feels because I was at a similar place in my life as her.'
"I’d just finished university," she continued. "I had a big family. I knew what [those] family dynamics were like, and how that kind of family dynamic was at times -- complicated. I just knew this character. When I finished the audition, I felt really good about it but didn't think I would necessarily get it. As an actor, you can do the best performance and they might say, 'We need someone two inches shorter,' so I didn't think I’d gotten it. But I had no doubt I suited the character."
Morgan was indeed right for the character of Lou. She recalls being "thrilled" when she got the call saying the part was hers. "Every time an actor gets a part, it's a big deal," she said. "You spend most of [your] lives auditioning. That's most of an actor's career -- just trying to get work."
Fifteen years later, Morgan is very aware of the opportunities that Heartland has afforded her. "I'm so spoiled, so spoiled," she laughed. "Especially in Canada, as we have a very small film industry. The population is also small and few actors in Canada can live off just acting. To have a steady gig for 15 years … I have no illusions about what a blessing that is.
"And it's still really exciting," she continued. "It was not what I expected going into this job at all. I thought it might go three or four seasons, like most shows, but it's become such a part of my life that I hope it keeps going and going as the cast is my second family. I assume every season might be the last one, but we fill a void on television that has been needing to be filled. There are a lot of families who appreciate the show and what we offer. I appreciate that they can watch it together, and in that sense, there’s nothing else on TV like it."
Morgan’s affinity for her character has grown throughout Lou’s journey. "She’s been a great character to play because she's intelligent, outspoken and opinionated," she reflected. "She's also strong and that is fun! She’s similar to me in those respects, so that's always been great to play. I think she's become more like me as actors usually bring themselves to their roles. It's also been nice over the years to see Lou, I don't want to say 'soften,' because she's still always tough, but she has softened a little. Amy and Lou have become closer, so there are some great Amy and Lou storylines as we were kind of antagonistic the first few seasons. It's nice we've evolved past that."
When it comes to season 15, Morgan is careful not to overshare. As an occasional director on the series, she’s often privy to advance scripts, making her the go-to cast member for upcoming storylines. However, she’s happy to give fans a tease of what to expect in the weeks ahead. "There’s a lot of comedy between Lou and her new assistant Rick (Aiden Moreno), who is a very funny actor," she revealed. "There’s some great drama, and I directed episode 7 (Bluebird) with an amazing Amy storyline about getting past Ty (Graham Wardle) and grieving him. And I can tease there's finally a conclusion of sorts with Lou’s love life that I think most fans will be happy to see."
Morgan believes "family" is why Heartland has endured and continues to resonate with fans. "It’s designed for the whole family and really is a multi-generational show," she explained. "It's not just for kids, not just for grandma and grandpa, not just for the parents. It's designed for everyone to enjoy and that is unique. People have really [connected] with our cast and the core family. They enjoy being part of our lives in a way, and then, of course, the other element is the scenery and the setting and just how magical southern Alberta is.
"I think that’s what makes UP Faith & Family such a great home for the show," she added in closing. "[They] have been just wonderful to us and have created really beautiful content online and on their channel. They cut really wonderful teasers of each episode, [maybe] even better than the CBC ones in Canada. They've done great things for us and we're so happy to call them home in the United States."
Season 15 of Heartland begins streaming March 17 on UP Faith & Family.

Paul Campbell is A Proud Voice in Hallmark Channel's New Direction
Tumblr media
By Steve Gidlow
Hallmark Channel favorite Paul Campbell returns this weekend, reteaming with his A Godwink Christmas (2018, Hallmark Movies & Mysteries) co-star Kimberley Sustad, in the charming Wedding Every Weekend. The film marks a major departure for Hallmark and swings the network into new territory, as wedding buddies Nate (Campbell) and Brooke (Sustad) (both pictured at top) attend several diverse weddings while actively trying not to fall in love. For Campbell, embarking on his eighth project for Crown Media, one he knew was going to mark a change, is something he was well aware of. "I read the script and said, 'Oh, here we go'," he revealed to MediaVillage exclusively. "As soon as I read it, I screamed from the rooftops that this was a game-changer and we were going to make history with this one. I was so excited, particularly in celebrating the same-sex couple getting married.
"I pay attention to the news," he continued. "Obviously Hallmark had come under fire in the past and had issues with certain groups about how they've handled the same-sex stuff and diversity. Basically inclusion, and not just the LGBTQ stuff, but people of color and diversity in general. A lot of their messaging, especially during the most recent BLM protests was, 'We will do better and we can do better'. A lot of people said put your money where your mouth is, so reading the script I was like, 'Here we go! There's the mouth, there's the money'."
Tumblr media
Campbell also revealed that part of the joy of making the movie for him was witnessing the behind the scene's evolution of certain aspects to its storytelling. "It was fun to see how much harder they leaned into things as script revisions kept coming out," he recalled. "They made bigger storylines for some characters to really celebrate them. It wasn't like, 'We're just going to kind of float it in and hope no one notices'. They were putting this front and center because this is our new direction. I knew right away there'd be controversy and they were going to get pushback from certain groups.
"To be honest I spent the last week on Twitter fiercely battling people coming at Hallmark and coming at me about the change in content," he added. "But overwhelmingly people are saying, 'I am so impressed with what Hallmark is doing. Even from some much more conservative Christian communities, who are saying, 'This is the right thing to do. This is the right direction and we support what you're doing'. So many other people are saying, 'This is the first time in my life I feel like I will see myself, or my relationship, or my culture, represented in a movie on Hallmark Channel and I'm so excited to watch'. So yes, they're making waves, but I think in the best way possible."
Tumblr media
Calling Campbell a trailblazer for spear-heading this new programming direction is about the best thing you could. "I do feel like a one," he shared. "To be honest, I think they picked the right guy. I have so many friends in LGBTQ+ communities, I feel had been under-represented. So to be able to finally celebrate them with the work I do is extraordinary. I have no time for intolerance or prejudice - - no time! And I have no problem standing up and being vocal about it. Discrimination has no place in the world that we've created, so if Hallmark was looking for a wallflower, or somebody just going to stand by and let this out - - I'm not the guy. I'm out there throwing punches, I'm fighting and I'm celebrating this new direction."
According to Campbell, he couldn't have had a better partner in Sustad (who has also become a writing partner) to play his 'wedding buddy' and embark on this journey with. "I wouldn't change the casting at all," he said. "Kim's great, and I say that because she's very funny and authentically does drama. It's what this movie needed, so I couldn't see anybody else. It helps having worked together before, as you develop this shorthand. I also liked that [Nate] was a little bit offbeat for the typical leading man and I was excited our executive producer said, 'Lean into the humor in the script'. I think that's also a part of the new direction of Hallmark. It created such dynamic, realistic, storytelling in terms of relationship development."
Tumblr media
Wedding Every Weekend also provided it's British Columbia based cast and crew with another first. "[The movie] was slated to start shooting a week after COVID-19 shut everything down," he revealed. "We were the first production out of the gate to film in phase three of the re-open on June 20. It was fairly normal, and part of that was just using really clever photography. Everybody wore masks, sanitized, and various departments were encouraged to stay within their departments and have limited interaction with other departments. The actors didn't wear masks, while background performers did, unless the cameras were rolling, and distanced as much as possible.
"A lot of interior weddings in the script were moved outdoors when possible," he added."We had morning temperature checks too. The only difference, and you can't see it in the film because of clever filmmaking, is 50% of the background performers in the wedding scenes are mannequins. You won't be able to spot them, still it was odd looking out at a sea of half mannequins.
"I think it's just being really diligent with the protocols we have in place," he offered in closing regarding COVID-19 and filming. "It seems to be up to the individual productions, but as far as what's going to become normal, it's really hard to say. We've been really fortunate that we haven't had any cases within the industry, but it's bound to happen and then when it does, I think everyone has to reassess."
Wedding Every Weekend is telecast Saturday, August 15, at 9 p.m. on Hallmark Channel, as part of the network's annual Summer Nights programming event.
