Hello! Did Lestat go to sleep underground twice? He went after Claudia’s death then again in Merrick? Why did Lestat go to sleep in Merrick and leave his loved ones behind?

Mhhh, he did go underground twice (after Paris, and... after Paris^^), but Merrick is something else.

Lestat encounters the Devil and God in "Memnoch the Devil". It... drives him a bit mad, and he is restrained by Maharet in a church. Afterwards he falls into a kind of coma, a (mostly) involuntary one. He says in "Blackwood Farm" that the "angels" took him to do their bidding, under threats. (We know Anne had plans for a book on this subject and even started writing it from the Tulane University archives, but it was never finished. Still, if you want to look at the available chapters, I put up a link here.)

That coma is still ongoing during Merrick. David notes that Lestat's soul doesn't seem to be there. And he... only wakes (edit:) permanently (not caring anymore for any threat) - when Louis' heart stops.

Rereading Protector of the Small and each time I read this series I'm reminded by how much EVERY character is so good and wonderful. This time I'm particularly taken by Merric who gets much less appreciation than some other characters BUT ALSO is so steadfast in his loyalty to Kel and also is like......if Neal is her Best Friend, Merric is like her secondary best friend if only for the fact that he's ALWAYS there.

Also my poor boy is ALWAYS being injured. Anyway I'm chewing tinfoil about him
