Thank you!! &lt;3 put “top 5” anything in my ask and i will answer Okay so here’s a shameful fact about me: I rarely read rinharu fanfics anymore. This is not because I don’t want to or that there’s not any good ones I haven’t read already out there (there is!! so many!!), but I simply don’t have time to read that much fanfiction in general anymore. :/ If I have time for fanfiction, I either write or read through my own WIPs. I try my best to read other people’s RH fics, not just for the pleasure of reading, but also to engage with other writers and write comments for them, and discover and appreciate other ways of writing the characters, but there's only so much time in a day. ;-; That being said, I also never really kept tabs on the fics I used to read/still read. I never wrote them down or saved them in any way, not even with an ao3 bookmark (i regret this so much), and so it would require extensive amount of time to go through my giant ao3 history to try to rank them properly. However! I do want to answer this ask with some recs (that aren't my own fics lol) in some way, so here goes the ones that sticks out the most in my current memory: 1) Family (3577 words) by NamelessPastel. An absolutely adorable fic in which Rin is babysitting his cousin and Haru comes around and ends up helping him. 2) Chicken Scratch (Ongoing, 88.754 words) by MatsuokasPonytail (@matsuokas-ponytail). Lovely and captivating fic with gardener!Rin and rich kid!Haru. It was wild to follow from its origin in @tomakehimfree's wonderful and sexy art and all the anons in her askbox, to the fic's first chapter and all the exciting chapter updates that followed. Sadly it’s on hiatus (and likely stays that way), but 1) what's there is still 100% worth reading! 2) I still naively hope to get that new chapter mail notification any day now lol. You can read all the individual chapters here on tumblr too. 3) The Long Engagement (25/25 chapters, 175,128 words) by RubyEliz. It's an arranged marriage fic with tons of angst and miscommunication that'll have you at the edge of your seat, then leave you with a warm little hug of a happy ending. This is the last longfic I've read of RH. It grabbed a hold of my attention SO hard and made me pull an all-nighter just to finish it. I couldn't put it down at all. 4) AO3@Misila (@misila / @nenufair) has written SO many RH fics, way more than I’ll ever get the chance to read (i think. Might dare myself one day jkfdk). She writes extremely well, so I can recommend checking her extensive list of works out! She definitely has at least one fic for any rinharu shipper’s taste. 5) I own physical copies of the fanfics Inked (tattoo artist x biker au), Dinner For One (angst with a happy ending) and Fluid Like Water (Olympic setting) by AO3@ellerean/@ellereanwrites (formerly tumblr@letsswimtogethernanase. I love them all a lot. The fanfics were the first RH "fan-made" merch pieces I ever bought (I think?), so they mean a lot to me and I feel privileged that I can have them displayed on my RH alter. <3

If you want to know about the Mystery of the Emblem thing.

A Chapter has the player fighting the army of Ellerean/Arlen, a recruitable character leading a city of mages, this army includes clerics, which are the only female enemies in Mystery of the Emblem, even the Pegasus Knights are male.

In the original game, once you recruit Ellerean, his entire army stops attacking and leaves the map, as there's now no reason to fight anymore.

In the remake, only the clerics stop acting, whilst Ellerean's army inexplicably try to kill their own leader.

Than when you beat the map, Jagen says out of nowhere, all the "kidnapped clerics have been rescued", something that was mentioned no one before.

Basically another case where the remake added more sexist elements.

- My favorite fic ever. Beautiful writing, great characterization, interesting OCs. Extremely satisfying slowburn that takes place after high school. Ongoing fic but updates are always worth it. READ THIS FIC.

Water (To Lovers Water Tastes Like Wine) and Sand (Ten Thousand Grains for a Drop of Water) by Solanyxe

- The pinnacle of Splash Free fics. Prince Rin is just sooo good and the water metaphor is always nice.

Beyond by Phosphorite

- The meta feel is superb but even better is just watching the relationship between Rin and Haruka grow. A different type of “artist” for your artistic Haruka needs.

Wish for You by Hinalilly 

- Splash Free with a magical twist and Rin realizing what he really wants. Do you love pining Rin? This is for you!

A Drop in the Ocean by pennyofthewild

- I adore this author but had to choose JUST ONE fic to represent them. This is my ideal. It’s a bit of a tear-jerker but I really love watching Haruka fall in love in this. The writing slays me.

Inked by ellerean

- I know others would choose ellerean’s more known fic. But I just love the quirky fun of biker Rin and tattoo artist Haruka. And I love the eventual tattoo.

Behind the Sea by WhatTheBodyGraspsNot

- I never expected to love a fic with a mostly mute Rin and a foul-mouthed Haruka so much. But mershark + beautiful relationship is what makes this fic shine.

The Perks of Being an Art Student by demfeeeels

- I love artistic Haruka and I love model Rin. This is just super fluff and an adorable Rin. D’awww.

Gharnef's motives can be reflected by Ellerean's: Why did master choose him, I've known master longer, I'm practically a son to him & I'm more powerful, I don't get it, I'll make him pay, I'll make them all pay!" Basically Gharnef has serious daddy issues, so he decided to ruin everyone else's happiness to make himself feel better. Ellerean almost turned out the same until Wendell caused him to realize he was turning into Gharnef.

Gharnef had a crapton of issues which made Gotoh go “nope” before tackling the “daddy issues”.

Which brings me to another point... why is having daddy/momy issues seen in such a bad light? What are daddy/mommy issues? Wanting to impress or get recognition by someone you love is something bad? Or it’s “doing whatever needed” to get that recognition, to the point of doing serious shit, that is bad?

The more I think about that trope, the less I understand it...

[ Damn, you read me like an open book. But, yeah, I love FE12 and I will always rant about what a good game it is. Its AI is some of the best in the series, honestly. It’s got a lot of tricky formations that can’t be solved by typical turtling because the AI is programmed not to fall for that. It’s one of the few, if not ONLY, FE games I’ve seen where enemies won’t get provoked if you try to bait them one at a time. You have to lure them in bunches, which really tests your tank’s defense capacity and punishes everyone’s lack of res. ]

[ It’s a brutal masterpiece and I really cherish my Maniac Mode run. I never did Lunatic or Lunatic Reverse, but Maniac was enough for me to see how challenging the game gets. ]

For fans to accuse it of misogyny, FE4 by Kaga is the ONLY Fe game to regularly feature female bosses and Kaga's subsequent games continued to have female grunts in the enemy army. As was discussed on serenesforest, the DS remake even altered the story of map so the enemy clerics, originally Ellerean's willing soldiers, became innocents kidnapped by Ellerean, & needing rescue, because Ellerean needed to go the Bowser route to "justify" female enemy units.

Kaga’s subsequent games have the Fighter class function like Othin & Halvan, though they no longer promote to Hero. TearRing Saga had a female fighter within the game data. Vestaria Saga has a female fighter, along with a Male Gryphon Rider(Pegasus Knight equivalent). Speaking of which, male Pegasus Knights appeared exclusively as enemies in FE3. Even FE5’s script only said pegasus knights were usually female, rather then always

Misogyny is a lot more than just female generics; actually, that’s not especially relevant to talking about the Kaga games specifically since the whole series rarely makes use of them outside of female-specific classes. It comes in the form of women in power being passed over in favor of men or forced to give it up, ex. Mathilda, Sheema, Miranda. It comes from weak characterizations of women who are some of the most narratively significant figures in their respective games, ex. Deirdre and Julia. It comes from all the threats of sexual assault, and everything that the Jugdral dancers go through. It comes from the remakes adding problems like Michalis’s survival, Faye and Rinea’s existence, and those weird changes to Celica’s character arc. It just really sucks to be a woman in those early FEs…even if you’re an accomplished knight, a queen, or even the second coming of dragon Jesus.
