Masterlist

Rumours about the nature of their relationship spread around Hogwarts castle like flu in December or like cursed Howlers with a Geminio curse.

The image always made Quinn laugh a lot. She couldn’t help imagining thousands of Howlers screaming indiscretions invading every corner of the castle, filled with students - and teachers! - eager for gossip to distract them from everyday life.

Quinn was very amused by the situation, but not so his girlfriend, who did nothing to hide her annoyance, turning her artificial violet eyes, and sometimes even her wand, on anyone who dared to talk behind her back in order to feel more important than the most powerful witch at Hogwarts.

“Don’t these idiots have anything better to do than spend all their time gossiping about every little thing we do?” she would get angry during their secret meetings. "They piss me off!"

Merula appreciated the attention of others for her prowess in the various fields of witchcraft. She loved to arouse admiration and made no secret of it. But she hated the constant attention paid to her private life, which aroused not admiration but unhealthy curiosity mixed with a healthy dose of intolerable judgement. Not because she loved a young woman - wizards were much more tolerant than Muggles in that respect - but because she was the daughter of a famous couple of Death Eaters.

“Let them tell it,” said Quinn, who had been used to being the centre of attention since she started at Hogwarts. “They’ll get bore. Protesting is just another way of drawing attention to ourselves.”

Merula wasn’t convinced. This had been going on for far too long. Days, weeks... months!

So, to encourage the populace to find something else to spice up their miserable conversations, Merula redoubled her efforts to show everyone that Quinn wasn’t worthy of her and that their reports weren’t worth public display. To no avail... Until the day when the two young women faced off in a fierce duel won by the witch of Slytherin.

Now there were more whispers:

“Did you see that? The beating she gave Quinn in that supposedly ‘friendly’ duel?” said an anonymous voice.

“Yes, that time I really thought she was going to kill her. It’s a good thing Barnaby intervened,” replied another indiscreet pupil.

“Speaking of which, don’t you think it’s suspicious? I mean, it’s not the first time Barnaby has been used as a human shield by Quinn. And the way he’s looking at her with those puppy dog eyes begging for a treat...” added another.

“Do you think he wants to go out with her?” said the first.

“Maybe, but I hear he’s already going out with Liz. Peeves overheard Penny telling Andre that Ismelda was furious after she caught them together feeding the giant squid,” informed a new arrival.

And on and on it went... Rumours were like fucking germs spread by the voices of people, using their ears to accumulate as much dirt as possible.

Thinking about all this, Merula tightened her embrace around Quinn’s aching body as she lay on a bed in the infirmary, injured after their terrible confrontation. The witch felt relieved to no longer be the victim of Hogwarts’ indiscretions.Quinn could not hold back a grimace.

“Sorry, I didn’t think you were that fragile,” Merula taunted bitingly.

Like hedgehogs, the witch always prickled up when she was going through a phase of insecurity, and Quinn had learned long ago to decipher all the facets of her personality.

“You’ve got to admit you didn’t pull any punches!” grumbled Quinn, before letting out a weary sigh and leaning back against her.

“We won’t soon have to play this comedy again: today I overheard Haywood telling everyone that the only thing we shared was the air we breathed and that if it were up to me, I’d make you disappear so as not to have you in my landscape, like that!” said Merula with a wolfish grin and snapping her fingers for emphasis.

“That bad? But what did you say to her to make her believe it?”

The young woman buried her blushing face in her girlfriend’s sparse hair, muttering something to do with her contempt for the insignificance of witches who were valued more for their celebrity than their talent.

Quinn burst out laughing, recognising in these words the bite of his girlfriend as she placed her lips at the base of his neck.

“You’re exaggerating! I remind you that we agreed that I would let you win this duel!”

“It doesn’t matter! Our strategy worked and I won’t have to abuse you any more!” teased Merula, redrawing a bruise on her girlfriend’s cheek with a delicate index finger.

“You can’t imagine how much I’ll miss it!

“So you like pain?”

Quinn straightened up, and with one smooth movement, reversed their positions on the bed. Now she towered over Merula, who gazed at her with a mixture of astonishment and defiance.

“No, I'm more of a revenge-seeking type,” Quinn announced mischievously, leaning down to place a bevy of kisses from her temple to her lips.

During the kiss, Quinn felt herself waver, and she forgot where they were, who they were. The entire universe was reduced to this infirmary, to Merula’s mouth and her hands studying her body like no one had ever done before. Nimble fingers slipped under the thin fabric of her shirt, slid down her stomach, making her skin quiver under the coolness of her palms.

“You’d better go. Madam Pomfrey will be back soon,” Quinn whispered against Merula’s lips.

“Lee promised to keep watch!” Merula protested, in the incisive tone she always used when her desires were thwarted.

“That’s true, but we shouldn’t abuse it. It’s nice enough that he’s our accomplice.”

“You’re not wrong,” admitted Merula, inwardly congratulating herself on Barnaby’s naïve disregard for public opinion.

She gave her girlfriend one last kiss before rising from her bed.

“By the way, maybe we should thank him: he was perfect in his role!” said Quinn.

Yes, that's true! Merula mused, frowning. Barnaby was soooo perfect in his role that he managed to irritate the most powerful witch at Hogwarts!

“But we should clear up a thing or two!” she exclaimed, her voice heavy with resentment.

“When you asked for his help, you should have clarified that he didn’t have to carry you like a bride!”

“You’re really daft if you think you’re responsible for someone else’s actions.”

HOLY SHIT MERULA!!! What a great line and what a tsundere way to try and cheer the main character up!!

I’m playing the Patronus Quest right now and I can’t believe I’m saying this, but between this and the Christmas at the Burrow quest, Merula has really started to grow on me! To the point where I’m seriously considering taking her to the Celestial Ball once that quest rolls around. Because damn, she and my main character have the potential for enemies-to-lovers! (Taking someone like Rowan or Penny to the ball is nice and all - but it’s also a bit boring. I need there to be a bit of *tension* in my ships, you feel? I was thinking of taking Chiara bc I just love her, but idk if that’ll even be possible... guess I’ll see.)

(PSA: I’m in the beginning of year 4 and don’t know any future plot points of the game. Anyone who spoils literally anything for me is getting blocked immediately.)

The boy who was forgotten

Ben centered fic full of angst.

Spoilers to year 6ch18

Ben sighed as he leaned against his truck that he had just finished struggling to close. He moved to sit down on the lid, resting forward on his hands as he looked around his childhood bedroom. It was plainly decorated with only a metal framed twin bed tucked against the wall, a dresser, a desk and bookshelf. Any cluster and personalization weren’t present, stuffed away into Ben’s truck.

He decidedly considered there was no point leaving anything behind before leaving for Hogwarts. Not when he wasn’t coming back.

“Ben, honey, it’s time to go.” His mother called up to him.

“Coming, Mum!” Ben sighed again and reached out for his wand as he stood.

With a swish of his wand, his truck transfigured into a satchel that he slung over his shoulder. He hesitated as he took a long look around the room before snapping his eyes away and heading out of the room.

Stepping down the stairs, Ben could hear his mum’s voice drifting from the living room. He came to stand in the doorway and watched her quietly. She was getting ready, pulling on shoes and coats, as she talked on the phone (most likely to his nana) about what she needed from the shops after dropping off Ben.

“Oh, I should get another letter set since I’m running low.” Ms. Copper spoke into the phone. “No, Mum, Ben’s school doesn’t have phones. I need to send letters. I know, I know, it’s just how it is there.”

Ben tightened his hand on his wand as his heart tightened in his chest. No matter what, his mother was always thinking about him and what to do for him. And here he was about to do something cowardly. No matter how brave he tried to present himself to his classmates, he was still a coward deep down.

As she was hanging up the phone, Ben took a deep breath, raised his wand towards his mother; “Obliviate.”

A quick flash lit the room for an instant before Ms. Copper stood there confused; “What was I doing again? Oh right, I need to pick up groceries.”

“Good-bye, Mum.” Ben whispered. He apparated out of the room before she could notice him in the doorway.

As he appeared on platform 91/3 he was all smiles, pushing down his growing heartache. He greeted his friends like normal, kissed his boyfriend hello, and boarded the Hogwarts express with them.

The school year went by in a blur and before he knew it, he was in the Forbidden Forest. Facing down Patricia Rakepick.

“You can take your lesson to the grave, Copper.” Rakepick sneered. “Avada Kedavra!”

Green filled Ben's vision and he closed his eyes as he braced for impact. It would be quick, he knew. Then, suddenly he was shoved out of the way and Quinn’s blood curdling scream filled the air.

Ben hit the ground hard and it took a moment to gain his bearings. Once he opened his eyes, he wished he hadn’t. Rowan laid lifeless on the ground, Quinn begging them to get up as he gripped their robes. Rowan’s eyes stared into Ben’s through cracked frames and he felt sick to his stomach.

Merula moved first, kneeling next to Quinn and putting a hand on his back. The poor boy choked on a sob as he buried his face in the crook of her neck. Violet met brown as she made eye contact with Ben over Quinn’s shoulder. He could see the uncertainty and unease in her eyes and knew it reflected in his own.

Higrid had found them Merlin knows how long later and brought them back to the school. He gently carried Rowan’s body while Quinn clung to Ben and Merula’s jackets. They were sent to the hospital wing for the night to get cleaned up. Quinn needed stitches on his upper lip where he had a hit rock after Rakepick had sent him flying. Madam Pomfrey said it would scar.

Ben curled up tightly on his side in bed, trying to block out the world. This wasn’t how it was supposed to go. It should’ve been him, not Rowan who died in those cursed woods.

He was brought out of his self deprecation by a form pressing up against his back. Turning his head, he spotted the top of Quinn’s head as he hugged him from behind.

“This is all my fault.” Quinn’s voice was muffled by Ben’s pajama shirt. “It should’ve been me.”

Ben rolled over and pulled Quinn against his chest, one hand in his hair and the other around his lower back; “Don’t even humor that thought.”

“But-”

Ben shushed him; “Don’t. Just…try and sleep okay?”

Quinn didn’t respond, digging his fingers into the back of Ben’s shirt.

At some point during the night, Merula had crawled in behind Quinn, squishing him between them. The beds weren’t as big as they felt when the trio was eleven but with some shifting around, they could fit comfortably together. They clung to each other as Merula and Quinn finally managed to drift off.

Ben laid awake in the dark room, staring off at the far wall.

‘What am I going to do now?’” He thought. ‘I have nowhere to go and an innocent friend is dead.’

He looked down at Quinn, sleeping peacefully with his mouth a jar; “I’m going to fix this, Love. I’m going to protect you and everyone.”

My boy is a Hufflepuff in the same Year as Quinn Rivera-Snyde. He's really good at CoMC (like Barnaby) and Herbology (like Talbott). Two classes he struggles in are Potions and Transfiguration. He has trouble focusing, like Quinn, so the two of them together... Just makes things worse for everyone involved. Unless they have their Designated Mom Friend™ around.

Anyway, he's a good guy with a heart of gold.

First of all Ekaterina "Kat" Solokov by @struckbyelectriclove This quirky cursed weirdo has some of the best angst done by an insanely talented creator. From just how badly her curse effects her to the multiple angst-filled scenarios Charlie has come up with. Her relationship with Merula is also very well done.

Matthew Luther by @hphmmatthewluther I love how Matthew starts as this sweet, shy kid and he stays like that just a bit more confident thanks to Quidditch. To say nothing of the fact that he's an absolute badass when the time calls for it. His relationship with Merula (and the interpretation of Merula's parents as being decent people) makes me root for Luthersnyde 100% of the time.

Adel Young by @adellovesrowan also springs to mind. I love this girl's relationship with Rowan as they grow as friends, fall out and then reconnect later in life.

Freyja Young by @marmotish would it really be an awesome Ravenclaws list without Freyja? I love that she's always got a poker face yet she she still feels emotion. Marmo's artstyle especially makes sure the subtle changes in expression carry that much more weight. While quite flawed, that just makes me love her as a character even more.

Gryffindor

Next is Maca Camillo by @akaryuga I love the future AU for Maca and Merula. In large part thanks to Aka's art style, Maca comes off as a really expressive character and her relationship with Merula is honestly the most adorable one I've ever seen.

Eugene Hope by @witchy-push can I just say, I love how this OC swooped in and stole most of the fandom's heart, my own included. Witchy's art style brings Eugene and the other characters to life in such a unique way.

Verna Malinda by @gaygryffindorgal you know I love a good enemies/rivals to lovers story and Verna’s relationship with Merula delivers that in spades.

Hufflepuff

Artemis Hexley by @the-al-chemist I love this little firecracker and her tragic backstory. Her sass is most definitely the best part of her charm.

Carmilla Frank by @carmilla-the-bird I love that she's such a realistically flawed character. Also provides a really cool take on an MC who’s a seer. Her relationship with Merula is just the icing on the cake.

Cereza Gomez by @rosachaotic Her relationship with Talbott is both one of the most well thought out and entertaining MC x Talbott relationships I’ve seen.

Slytherin

Edie Quinn by @praetoring I love that she attempts to breakaway from her death eater family. Her relationship with Barnaby is just the icing on the cake as far as this amazing character goes.

Alex Vega by @weirdcursedvaultkid without a doubt the cutest HPHM MC, I love all the cute little takes Alex’s character gives to certain moments in the game such as the Sphinx Club TLSQ.
