December Kanzashi for Junior Maiko [Modeling] by Zashiki Gi Via Flickr: Every December, the names of kabuki actors who will perform for the upcoming year (beginning that month) are hung on the entrance to the Minamiza Theatre in Kyoto. Maiko and geiko view the first performances at the beginning of the month in an event called kaomise soken. Maiko wear a special mini version of the name boards, called maneki, and have the kabuki actors of their choice sign the white tags. It's quite an occasion! These kanzashi for junior maiko will be available soon, and can feature the names of 6 different kabuki actors.

Kyoto Aquarium (京都水族館, Kyōto Suizokukan) is modern and nicely designed Japan's aquarium.It was newly opened in March 2012 in Umekoji Park, about one kilometer west of Kyoto Station. The two-story facility is divided into nine zones with various themes, exhibiting a variety of aquatic animals. Unique to the aquarium is a zone that recreates the aquatic environment of rivers in Kyoto and features the Japanese giant salamander.

Hi, is a specific kagai more popular with kabuki actors than the others, as far as you know?

Yes and no. Kabuki actors tend to entertain in the kagai around the Minamiza Theatre, so that includes Miyagawa Cho, Pontocho, Gion Kobu, and Gion Higashi. Kamishichiken is on the other side of the city, so it's no as easily accessible as the others ^^
