The box rattles as he walks, making him wonder just what was inside though he doesn’t even entertain the idea of opening it to find out. He’d asked the sister, only to be snapped at in a testy voice: “Doesn’t matter, just take it to Mint.”

He comes the den mother’s door, shifting the box to hold with one hand so he can knock with the other, settling back to wait till she opens the door.

“Mint,” he asks as a short ghoulette opens the door, “One of the sisters asked me to bring you this. Where shall I set it down?”

Mercury had been hearing whispers in the church about a certain Ghoulette’s birthday coming up. He had stalked around to find the source of the rumors, to confirm. It turned out Mint’s Birthday was today, and Mercury is always up to spoil and celebrate his lovers.

He had taken the time to set up something extra special at this apartment for later. Right now he was on his way to find the Ghoulette, and take her out to town.

Mercury had reached the door to her den, and knocked three times. He waited awhile and still heard no response, so he carefully opened the door and walked inside. He didn’t see sign of her or her kit, but walked to the nest room and found Mint asleep on her own, still in her uniform dress.

He quietly walked over to her sleeping form, and kneeled besides her. Mercury leaned down placed soft kisses on her cheek.

“My love, wake up. You’ll miss your birthday if you sleep all day.”

(I can't bring myself to destroy him, can I just love him instead?) Mint knew there were two fire ghouls who might be upset with her, and she felt a bit guilty. But she still cared and wanted to make things right. Ifrit, despite his incredible power, would definitely be easier to start with... She had knocked on his door tentatively, holding a mug of coffee. "Ifrit, are you up? Some of the others said you been drinking a lot... I brought you something for a hang over, if you want..."

Cracking an eye open, Ifrit grumbles, intending to just roll over and ignore whoever it was at his door. His head ached terribly and his stomach felt weird, body protesting to the outrageous amount of alcohol he’d imbibed to try and drink his feelings away. When he hears Mint’s voice he sits up and panics.

Oh shit, oh fuck he’s dead, he’s so fucking dead.

“O-one sec, lemme get decent,” he calls, flopping out of his bed and attempting to hurriedly shove the multitude of empty bottles under his bed, having no room in the small trash can to fit them all in it. He gives up, knowing she would see them anyways and pulls on a pair of sweat pants and a tshirt, head throbbing as he stumbles to the door and pulls it open. “Come on in, sorry about the mess,” Ifrit mumbles, stepping to the side to let the den mother inside.

(Taking place after the Aether/Mercury fight)

Mercury had been gone for the past couple of days. No one had seen or heard from him. It was as if he had vanished. Good riddance some of the clergy said, but others were worried. The dramatic, flamboyant, man in the mask had seemingly...disappeared. It didn’t take an idiot to realize that life in the church had lost a little bit of its color.

Mercury had shut down after the fight between him and Aether. It had ended with no clear winner or loser, but Mercury had felt that he had sorely lost. The memories that the Ghoul had forced back to the forefront of Mercury’s mind, caused him nothing but pain and sorrow. His prideful nature had forced him to lock himself away into his apartment. Not wanting a soul to see his broken, shredded spirit.

Although the substances of this planet had no real effect on him. Mercury is currently huddled into the corner of his bedroom, bottles of all sorts surrounding him, and even the occasional pill. His eyes are red and emotionless, as he stares off and the opposite wall. The only sound that can be heard is the honking of cars below.
