please tell me about your mechsona! i really hope this isnt weird because we dont know each other but mechsonas are cool and stuff!!

Okay so like with every fandom I make a self insert which is just “me but cooler and when I listened to the Mechs I was like “okay let’s do this” Even though I’ve only listened to the main albums (not TTBT1 + 2, Frankenstein, and I’m trying to brace myself for DTTM) and not read any canon fic.

Their name is Donovan Flowers, their gender is ????? (haven’t worked it out yet), mechanism is a missing leg and missing right eye (also maybe like an elbow??? like the entire elbow got replaced but the forearm was fine??? Carmilla was just experimenting and was probably high).

What do they look like??? Redhead, absolutely. White button up shirt, brown corset, black skirt, grey sleeveless overcoat/cardigan, brown belt over the corset and jacket. Brown belt bracelet and fingerless lacy gloves on the left hand. And a top hat, with goggles and flowers on the band. Think victorian adventurer meets wild west gunslinger meets MCR (all of which I pulled out of my closet cus I’m that person). As for favored weapons, I’m gonna go with knives and a bat with nails, with a gun (six shooter) as backup.

Role on the ship??? They’re the ship’s cook (actually built a garden on the Aurora as something to occupy their mind) and basically extra hands whenever necessary. In the band, they have a talent for picking up melodies and playing things by ears, so they can pretty much pick out the melody for something if needed. However, their usual role is voice, saxophone/woodwinds (like in the Bifrost Incident), and accordion.

Backstory??? Lowly cook falls in love with heir to shady possibly mafia royalty (a woman named Lavender Blue, based off of @cryptvokeeper), marries in secret, runs off with their love when the marriage comes to light, travels the stars for a couple years having adventures with wife, the family catches up to them, Lavender ends up dead in Donovan’s arms, with Donnie mortally wounded, only for a familiar space vampire to float up to their ship and save Donovan’s life.

Cut to some amount of time later, the Mechs come across a supposedly abandoned ship which holds one certifiably insane saxophone player who cannot die when Jonny inevitably tries to shoot them and upon hearing the name “Mechanism” goes “Oh shit I heard about you!!! Do you need a cook?” and then just Vibed for the rest of time

Other important facts:

Absolutely is not all there in the head-- medical experimentation for god knows how long coupled with isolation for who knows how much longer and the fact that they keep seeing their dead wife and having conversations with her kinda does that to a person

(Lauren and I chatted about this, Donnie’s robo eye got possessed by Lavender’s spirit and they still talk but Donnie’s the only one that sees her and it’s out of that one eye)

The robo eye can also replay and project memories, further confusing them

Unfailingly polite. Just, such a nice person. Not the biggest fan of killing indiscriminately (still clinging to that moral code) but like, will cut off someone’s genitals if you try and mess with them

Push them to their limit and they will go feral and mow ppl down

Comes from Space New York and doesn’t know what an England is.

Also talks way too fast all the time

refers to everyone as “Mr.”, “Ms.”, or “Mx.”, since they’re the newest member of the group.

(Considering that the Toy Soldier is referred to as “it”, Donnie defaults to calling it “Captain Soldier”)

(Jonny has shot them for doing this multiple times)

Wears their wedding ring on a chain around their neck.

Loves the Toy Soldier and Boring/MJE Brian the most.

Once spent a week just cuddling the octokittens

If they wrote an album it would be based on Tam Lin

Absolutely the Little Sibling but also has Middle Sibling Energy

Yeah that’s basically it!!! I haven’t thought of any particular inspiration behind their story, like a fairy tale or anything. I’m thinking about it tho!!!

“How did you get so good at this anyway?”

“So you’re admitting that I’m better than you?”

Picked up a couple of originals from Fan Expo Dallas this weekend.

Cthulhu is by Tim Vigil. I was lucky enough to meet him and get on the commission list. Amazing artist. He does a lot of NSFW stuff. I think his style and details rock.

The Little Princess is by the very nice @solocosmo. She had a wonderful selection of prints and originals with her. I picked this up along with a few prints. I plan on putting these up in the reading nook in my daughter’s room in our new house.

Starr Sackstein – Bio As Submitted

Over 16 years ago, Starr Sackstein started her teaching career in Far Rockaway High School, eager to make a difference. Quickly learning to connect with students and develop rapport, she was able to recognize the most important part of teaching, relationships. Fostering relationships with students and peers, to encourage community growth and a deeper understanding of personal contribution through reflection, Sackstein has continued to elevate her students by putting them at the center of the learning.

Starr Sackstein currently works at Long Island City High School as a Teacher Center Teacher and ELA teacher. She spent nine years at World Journalism Preparatory School in Flushing, NY as a high school English and Journalism teacher where her students run a multi-media news outlet at WJPSnews.com. In 2011, the Dow Jones News Fund honored Sackstein as a Special Recognition Adviser and 2012 Education Updated recognized her as an outstanding educator. Currently, Sackstein has thrown out grades, teaching students that learning isn’t about numbers, but about the development of skills and ability to articulate that growth.

In 2012, Sackstein tackled National Board Certification in an effort to reflect on her practice and grow as an educational English facilitator. After a year of closely looking at her work with students, she achieved the honor. She is also a certified Master Journalism Educator through the Journalism Education Association (JEA). Sackstein also serves at the New York State Director to JEA to help serve advisers in New York better grow journalism programs.

In speaking engagements, Sackstein speaks about blogging, journalism education, throwing out grades and BYOD, helping people see technology doesn’t have to be feared. Balancing a busy career of writing and teaching with being the mom to 10 year old Logan is a challenging adventure. Seeing the world through his eyes reminds her why education needs to change for every child.

Oliver and felicity with dig, thea, laurel and lance going back to the island to do some research into the magic ollie encountered there, to try and take down dark. except felicity gets injured and oliver ends up having to carry her EVERYWHERE and look after her because a tropical storm comes in and they can't get off lianyu until its over. “Oliver, please stop being dramatic. This is supposed to be a nice day.”

“It’s supposed to be a five year old’s birthday party, but somewhere along the line it’s turned into a horror movie.”

“It’s not that bad.”

“These children are demons.”

“I think demons is a harsh word…”

“I’ve been bitten.”

“Bitten?”

“That kid with the buzz cut. He bit me.”

“Oh, that’s Charlie. He’s a biter.”

“Why is Sara friends with a biter?”

“I don’t know. Maybe she likes him.”

“No one like a biter.”

“You like it when I-”

“And that’s not a suitable activity for five year olds.”

“We’re here for Sara, can you at least try to look happy? You are her godfather.”

“I am happy.”

“You just called this a horror movie.”

“I love Sara, this is just...horrible.”

“You were the one talking about kids last week, you know.”

“If we had a kid, they’d have to have a birthday party.”

Olicity: Consume With Caution

Full disclosure: I was on a massive sugar high when I wrote this, after a friend of mine lead me to this wonderful article: http://dc.wikia.com/wiki/Green_Arrow's_Chili and well, I’m me. Of course It was going to happen. And I thought it’d be kinder to do it as a dialogue fic because...well, some stories are better told with a bathroom door between you.

“....Hon?”

“Go away.”

“Honey…”

“Oliver, I need you to not be near me right now.”

“I just want to check if you’re-”

“I’m not okay, we’ll just leave it there.”

“Can I get you anything?”

“New internals organs? I think I flushed mine already.”

“Felicity, I’m so sorry. I swear, I didn’t think it was that hot.”

“Hot? I can handle hot food. What you made was… I think I’m dying.”

“That bad?”

“This is not the way that I imagined christening this bathroom.”

“Oh…”

“Oh, god. It burns!”

“The chili?”

“You really don’t want me to answer that.”

“Are you being sick, or…?”

“I’m not being sick.”

“Oh.”

“I wish I were being sick. Instead I am crapping out a kidney.”

“Felicity, I-”

“Oh, GOD, I think my intestines just followed it.”

“Is there anything I can get you? Some water?”

“Water isn’t going to help this, Oliver!”

“I just want to help.”

“You’ve helped enough by cooking dinner. Where did you even get this recipe?”

“Laura Hoffman recommended it, it was in a book she sent over with the slow cooker and-”

“I am going to kill that woman.”

“I think that’s a little extreme.”

“What’s extreme is what’s happening in here. Can you just get me a pillow and a blanket and I’ll sleep in here tonight?”

“...You’re going to sleep in the bathroom?”

“Maybe a wet-wipe or---no, a whole pack of wet-wipes, definitely more than one wet-wipe. It is not looking pretty in here. Maybe I should just get in the tub? I mean, people do that with babies, right?”

“Hon, it’s not sounding good in there.”

“What?”

“It’s not sound--”

“It doesn’t SOUND good? Are you kidding me right now? I am in physical pain, Oliver! Wait...you can hear this?? All of this??”

“Honestly? I heard you fart in your sleep once but this is...something else.”

“Okay, you need to stop talking right now.”

“Felicity, please let me help.”

“You can destroy that chili, that’s what you can do.”

“I thought it was nice.”

“You are lucky I’m busy right now or I would be destroying that slow cooker.”

“You have to admit it’s handy.”

“I’ve never shit so much in my life, Oliver. I don’t have to do anything.”
