Lean on me

The ending scene to Episode 11 doesn’t have any dialogue, but is one of the more poignant scenes of the entire series. It shows Joon Young, who is so used to standing alone and enduring things on his own, starting to open up to Song Ah and tell her some of his innermost struggles by leaning his cheek on her head, closing his eyes in the guise of sleep.

I feel like more than the fluttery, swoony scenes of episodes prior, this particular scene shows a big step in Joon Young and Song Ah’s relationship. Song Ah’s always been the one to communicate things clearly to him (for the most part)--but he is, too, albeit on a slower pace. How could he stay silent, in the face of her honesty?

The thing about Korean is that it can be very vague at times--and a nightmare for me, who’s attempting at translating. “좋아요” in Korean can mean “I like you,” or “I like it,” based on the context of the conversation, because unlike English, an object is not required in the syntax to make it sound correct.

The first “좋아요” Joon Young says refers to the ice cream, but there is a moment when levity breaks when he says it again--this time, the meaning behinds his word is different. He’s no longer referring to the ice cream, but to Song Ah.

I just can’t with this couple XDDDD

I’m really enjoying the easygoing, encouraging dynamic Joon Young and Song Ah have in Do You Like Brahms? It’s clear that while they are more quiet and awkward with other people, it’s not the same case when they are with each other--they are at ease with one another, and can openly be honest about what they’re going through.

It’s not a quick, lightning attraction, but more of a slow river of a fluid buildup to what would hopefully be a healing relationship for both.
