Play your heart out Freedom Park - Lagos Repost from @funmilayoajala @TopRankRepost #TopRankRepost KAKAKI When leaving the palace of an Emir, Sultan or Shehu, one is usually heralded with the blowing of a long trumpet called "Kakaki". It is also blown at festive occasions and important anniversaries in the emir's palace. A shorter version of the "kakaki" is used by some Obas in the South/West part of Nigeria. “Alcohol is an infinitely better food than meat,” said Sir Arbuthnot Lane, speaking last month at the annual meeting of the True Temperance Association, at Caxton Hall, London. “The number of people who die in England from alcohol must be infinitely small, but how many die from meat? Old men, professional men, and those with great brain strain, know the value of alcohol.”
-April 7, 1928, The Nigerian Spectator.

Not sure what I was expecting from a British report written in 1948 on how to explain the "Palestine problem" to Muslims in Nigeria, but it wasn't this:
"The Jews have been described as more progressive than the Arabs, but it is unfair to make such comparisons, as most of the Jewish immigrants have had the benefit of prolonged contact with western education and culture. The Jews might have been more welcome in Palestine had they not discrimbinated against the Arabs and treated them as an inferior race. If the Jews are given full sovereignty over Palestine or any part of it, this discrimination may grow worse. Already, say the Arabs, there is a suggestion of the Nazi technique in some of the methods the Jews are using in Palestine.”
