Season 5 - **Possible SPOILERS**

When the titles of season 5 released, I focused about what could be E9 and E10.

My first hypotheses were immediately:

Allegiance could be an episode who Gilead asks to Nick to bring back Nichole. Safe could be an episode who Nichole could be in secure. And Nick underground.

Synonyms of Allegiance: Loyalty, support.

Ideas of nickjunesource:

E09: We guess that Serena will find herself in a situation where Fred Jr is in danger and her allegiance to Gilead and herself will be pitted against her allegiance to her son. We’ll explore the alliance between Lawrence and Lydia ...

We feel hopeful that this will be a strong Nick episode as the word 'allegiance’ was featured in Nick’s character trailer for season 4 and was a word that was used for him in interviews. As such we think that we’ll continue to see Nick’s allegiance to June and the rebellion, and how that is impacted by his current situation.

E10: In this episode we think that June will be forced underground in order to keep herself and her family safe. June, Luke, and Moira will send Holly to live with unknown Mayday rebels because she is in increasing danger, possibly assisted by Nick. Nick will work with Lydia and Lawrence in order to keep Hannah safe. Nick’s own safety may be in danger as he becomes more enmeshed in the rebellion.

I was also hoping for a hot scene between Nick and June. It's missed. 😭😭😭

After watching the first eight episodes. After seeing the two differents trailers for E09 (Link1 - Link2), what do you expect for the two last episodes?

Introducing @nickjunesource's first annual Osblaine Week! We will be celebrating our ship by hosting fan creations during the week of August 1st to August 7th.

Similar to our 2019 event Nick Blaine Appreciation Week, we will provide a week of daily prompts to inspire creations throughout the fandom. Only this time, we’re going bigger with even more prompts to choose from.

Hi Zal - how do you interpret the look on June’s face when she realizes it’s Nick who she’s been brought to see on the bridge?

So, what I think is actually really great about this reaction

is the history that’s in her expression because that tilt, that near-smile, those eyes, that’s an “of course it’s you�� “of course you’re here” because you promised and you’ve always promised, and you’ve always come through

which is why I also thought the way Nick was framed to be interesting because we don’t immediately see his face, he’s shot from the back

and it connotes a certain authority and power and in this context, it’s the power to keep June alive, take for instance in 2x01 when you only see a bit of him from the back and there’s doubt still lurking of who it is

whereas in 4x03 it’s a very firm position.

And this second part of her reaction

is part of the reason why I used ‘salvation’ in my last Nick and June video because I think after everything she went through, the sight of Nick at that point was an emotional anchor that kept her tethered and grounded and she’s experiencing a flood of emotion and dare she even think, safety?

Hi! I love the fact that you're Tina from Texas, cause so am I! I'm fairly new to the Handmaid's Tale, super late to the June x Nick party, and I hate how lonely it is.. Could you possibly point me in a direction to some active tumblr folks who post about Handmaid's Tale (most of the ones I found have been inactive for months)? Also if you have any new fic recs. Anything would be amazing!

ahhhh hello to another tina from texas! i can’t believe there’s more than one of us that is also really into handmaid’s tale and june x nick! that’s awesome! i wonder if we’re from way different parts of texas since, as you know very well, this state is comically oversized. my best friend also lives in texas but is five hours away from me. it sucks.

anyway, it kind of sucks at the moment because there’s not a lot of new content to work with right now so everyone is kind of.... inactive. i’m doing as much as i can but @nickblaine is also a good source for semi regular content and so is @nickjunesource. 

as far as fic... i have quite a bit all linked here in my handmaid’s tale fic tag, maybe you’ll find something new, but other great authors that you might not have checked out fic from are: @dystopiandramaqueen (ao3), @forthisone (a03), @nickblaine (ao3), @aniray (ao3), @smoulderingocean (ao3), and @dcgal814 (ao3), plus many other incredibly talented authors that i know i am forgetting that have posted one shots. 

one thing i will say about this fandom is it is small but full of so much talent!

Hello! So I’m new to THT fandom, because I recently watched it and only thing I’m seeing is a lot of hate on Nick. Well I don’t expect everyone to love him and that’s perfectly fine, but I guess it confuses me seeing so many excuses for Ser*na. Well I like her (she can make me crazy at times) I just don’t see how we can excuse her behavior, but Nick is the bad guy. Am i missing something? Anyways, since I’m new to the fandom can you recommend some pro June/Nick and Nick blogs?

There is a lot of Nick hate out there for sure, which is frustrating. I think it comes from a view of feminism that says any focus on a man detracts from a woman’s story. Of course we want to see more women’s stories represented on screen, but those stories are made much stronger when they portray both intersectional feminism and the fact that not all men are bad.  The love and support of people around us helps to bring us up, be that friendships, maternal/paternal love or the love of a partner. The idea that romance diminishes our heroines is just a lot of ingrained misogyny telling you that love is silly or unimportant in a woman’s life.  Furthermore, women’s stories as a whole (especially on show that wants to represent feminism) are much stronger when they elevate ALL women’s voices, not just those of white women.

The arguments around complicity you see regarding Serena vs. Nick, I also find very frustrating. There are a lot of wonderful articles out there about how this show represents white feminism only that are valuable reading. I encourage you to look them up if you haven’t already. A lot of that white feminist viewpoint can be seen through how the show so desperately wants to push Serena as a victim despite the fact that she helped build Gilead and was instrumental in the overthrow of the US government. She continually makes choices to serve her own self interest while abusing and punishing those around her so I don’t feel sorry for her one bit. Nick, on the other hand, was a young man living in poverty and desperate for work. The show has sadly never bothered to address how class issues played a role in the rise of Gilead which is such an important part of Nick’s story. Part of the reason you see a lot of Nick hate comes from the fact that some viewers see him as guilty just by virtue of being male, but also because the audience has been left to infer a lot of things about him. As a low status male in this society I believe he was forced to do things to survive just like everyone else. This includes being forced to sleep with June in 1x05 so Serena could steal their baby and being forced to marry Eden in 2x05. 

Since the show has put Nick so much on the back burner this season, I will refer to Margaret’s own words in an interview regarding her novel which I think illustrates an important difference between Serena and Nick.  She refers to her novel as “a study of power, and how it operates and how it deforms or shapes the people who are living within that kind of regime.” When you look at the book and these characters in that context the differences between Nick and Serena are quite clear. Nick has continually used his limited power to help those around him. By becoming an Eye to help take down commanders and by working within Mayday and the Martha network to help June and Holly try to escape on multiple occasions.  Serena has continually used her power and privilege to help herself by raping, abusing and emotionally tormenting those within her household at every turn. To me the difference in their moral characters are quite clear.

As for some pro Nick/June and pro-Nick blogs, I’d check out @nickjunesource @teamnick @smoulderingocean @dcgal814 @zalrb @aperture @splitscreen @dystopiandramaqueen @benofie and @forthisone. And be sure to check the #nick x june and #nick blaine tags to find more Nick friendly people.  I assure you there are a lot of us out there!

5x05 : Fairytale (My POV)

Lily explains to June, Luke and Moira: Our friendly is right there in No Man's Land but he cannot get across. Canadian Border Patrol's really stepped up. Luke surprises everybody saying: I am going across. June looks at him and shakes her head worriedly but he insists. Then she seems to be looking at him with wonderment and declares: I am going with you. Which does not seem to enchant Moira.

After S4E10, I think we all wanted to see more of the badass couple what are June and Nick. Especially after this powerful kiss in the woods in front of Fred. But it seems, the writers tried something with June and Luke. The idea is less appealing.

As night falls, June begins to have flashbacks, remembering the day she ran into the forest with Hannah to escape the Gilead guardians. It seems like last time, they have nothing to defend themselves. It is as if they had learned nothing.

In the early morning, still in the forest, June and Luke meet a guardian and follow him to his hideout: A bowling alley. They exchange backpacks and talk about plums. We learn that they are like princesses. Subtle wink to the episode's title.

Surreal scene: Luke and the young guardian enjoy bowling. Which worries June since the two men are not discreet. I do not know how old is Jayden. But is he supposed to be the same age when Nick was "recruited" by Sons of Jacob (SOJ)?

What is wrong with Luke? Lily told them: No name. Names are dangerous. This guy does not listen to anything. Although I agree that Jayden seems harmless but the instructions were clear. For safety, no name. Is it too complicated?

Luke sits at the keyboard, he tries first Yankee Doodle, then O Susanna before Let's Stay Together. A statement to June: Loving you. Whether times are good or bad, happy or sad. Could this be some sort of reminder of wedding vows? It is true that the lyrics were written by Al Green, a pastor. But it reminds me: For better, for worse, for richer, for poorer, in sickness and in health, to love and to cherish ...

Maybe it is also a parallel with S4E06, when in a flashback Luke tries to reassure June: You are not gonna disappoint me. I will just love whoever you turn out to be.

June is through by a kaleidoscope of emotions and feelings. But I notice something, when he sings the line: And I want to spend my life with you. She lowers the eyes and her head. She does not really seem to share the same feeling. And she seems to feel guilty. That is when Luke gets up and invites her to dance.

Hand in hand, in the middle of the night, June and Luke follow Jayden into the woods which brings them closer to the border. Unfortunately, the latter steps on a mine and loses his leg. If they try to help the young man, June and Luke abandon him when guardians approach. They run but they get caught…

Elisabeth Moss says: I think there was a period where June was not the June that Luke married. They do not reconnect like they were in the past. They connect again in the present. The worst is to hear Moira saying to Lily: June and Luke do not quit. Through all the shit they have been through, they just keep fighting for each other.

I find it surprising that they found the need to show us footage of June and Nick at the end of the video below. Except they cannot ignore what the fans really want.

In a prediction, NickJuneSource had guessed perfectly a part of the story:

We think it is possible that June and Luke will briefly reconnect and have a few charmed moments, possibly because Luke is becoming braver and being more rebellious. But fairytales are not real and so reality will come crashing down.

Call me crazy lol. Here are the ingredients of a fairytale in this episode and not only.

- A forest: Which June and Luke across,

- A house / A hiding place: The bowling alley,

- One or more villains: People working for Wheelers, the protesters in Canada,

- Songs: Luke at the piano,

- Characters rarely have names: Lily said No name. Names are dangerous,

- The transition from child to adult: With Hannah who is now a plum,

- Magic items: Could it be the USB key?

- A witch: Serena,

- A fairy: Holly is in Canada with Rita who is her godmother,

- The innocence: Jayden,

- Above the counter where they rented the shoes we can read: "Kingsway Family",

- A castle where terror reigns: Where June and Luke will be detained in S5E06,

- A Prince Charming: Nick who kisses his Sleeping Beauty in S5E10.
