The ninja trying to put the Dark Helmet on areas of the Celestial Clock that very much are not suitable perches for helmets hurts me every time.

So my mind won't leave me alone with this thought, or idea with the Celestial Clock cause I'm casually going back through le show again, and to how it was built, when I look at that my mind goes to Krux and Acronix. So- what if their ancestors, or whatever built it in a way, like they most likely saw what was to come given one of Acronix's powers was jumping/seeing throught the future, but obviously theirs more powerful than the twins and- yeh. And given Krux would probably still be in the same time era, hidden away he could feel the very tick of the clock in his being, despite being powerless. I dunno what I could probably use with such an idea, but eh random lore/idea background. :D

Who wants to overthink legos with me? No? Too bad, here goes
Okay so do you ever think about how the circle is (accidentally) a recurring motif in Ninjago? A running list of examples:
Ouroboros, the snake eating its own tail, which is commonly represented in a circular shape and represents infinity with endless return. Thats how they defeat the Great Devourer, actually, by getting it to bite its own tail
The original shape of Ninjago before the FSM pangea'd it
Spinjitzu is essentially the process of weaponizing circular motion. Airjitzu is similar, and even creates a sphere of air/light around the user
In the earlier seasons, Lloyd's main attack involved creating balls of energy
The light from portals - time vortex, Traveler's Tea, the Blind Man's Eye, the Realm Crystal - tend to resemble vortexes
Dragons often have to spin in order to traverse realms
All the circle imagery in the Temple of Light
Jay and Nya's yin-yang badges
Yang's whole "close the circle" shtick
The dust circle that swirled around the ninja at the end of Skybound when Jay said his final wish and all of time was undone
Zane's old house is circular/cylindrical, and the camera spiral-zoomed on him when his memories returned
The architecture on Chen's island
The Celestial Clock
Flower petals circling around Lloyd when he met the FSM
In that flashback when Mystake was telling the story of the Oni and the Dragon, with the FSM creating a circular yin-yang symbol to represent the combining of both light and dark
This is a bit of a stretch, but Zane's notably circular power core
Kryptarium is a panopticon style, which is circular in design. On that note, the s8 Lloyd v Garmadon fight happening at Kryptarium. Lloyd was familiar with the usual procedure of saving Garm, only for that typical cycle of saving and losing his father as Garmadon throws him through the wall and out of the prison
Lots of fights actually have the camera pan in circles around the fighters
That little hand paint collage they all made at the end of season 10
The spiraling bioluminescence surrounding the FSM's corpse
Actually, lets take it a step further. Cycles of violence. Sins of the father. History repeating itself. Harumi and Loyd's backstories causing, opposing, and reflecting one another, with her ending where Lloyd began and vice versa. The inheritance of elemental power, something endlessly recursive. Generational trauma.
Not to mention theres a heavy emphasis on either breaking cycles or perpetuating them. Lloyd saying "I wont let it do to me what it did to you." Harumi saying "i want you to feel the emptiness i feel." Morro saying "I make my own destiny." The Overlord possessing the Great Devourer so it would bite Garmadon. Lloyd wanting to be like his father but then being a hero instead. Nya quoting her mother in her final moments. Again i repeat. Generational trauma.
Theres just. This overwhelming sense of recursion and cycles throughout the entire series, and im mad bc im like 90% sure the writers didnt do that intentionally. Im not smart enough to put it into words but if i think about this for too long im gonna start biting things

Um so. Idk how to format this overlord/time twins theory/rewrite at all so I’m just gonna paste my brain into tumblr
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The overlord is the embodiment of evil and all things bad.
He is the series finale villain back when it was just two seasons and it makes sense that he is because he’s the evil counterpart to ninjago’s god, the fsm.
The time twins are the series finale villains when Ninjago was just gonna be 7 seasons. And it makes no sense at all other than the vague symbolism around the concept of time. But they aren’t connected to any previously established lore. They’re just guys.
But what if they were… connected?
After all the overlord has a big clock and time can certainly be a gimmick of his.
And there’s no explanation of how the overlord always comes back.
What if… time is on his side. The time twins have an infinite control of time and destiny connecting them to the overlord who represents an inevitable doom, a cycle of violence doomed to repeat itself.
More on the time twins, what if they were always present in the series, due to their ability to time travel they are always setting up some key plot point, like they may have spread tales of the golden master to the serpentine, created the celestial clock, nudged Chen in the right direction, lead Nadakhan to the realm crystal.
What if they were there, always in the background? They are after all, currently lost in time. It might not even be the versions of them we know, placing the pieces. It could be them from a far distant and desolate future, having seen a world under the overlord’s rule, where they reign, and as the hands of time, the hands of the overlord itself, it’s their duty to see that destiny take place.
It also links to my favourite rewrite idea for season 7, where a lot more time travel takes place and the ninja travel to all sorts of different time zones, and Lloyd ends up at the day of the great devourer’s attack on Ninjago city. A child meets him only to watch him disappear through a time portal, abandoning her as her family is killed in the attack.
This child is Harumi and this is why she hates the green ninja specifically. She goes on to resurrect Garmadon, only to die and fall victim to the manipulation of the overlord. And the portal that was opened was of course the work of the time twins, using Harumi as merely a cog in their grand design to bring the overlord back.
I don’t know what the hands of time are to the overlord, maybe they’re just guys who decided they want to work for the overlord and the overlord gave them powers, or maybe the overlord created them as an extension of himself. Maybe they were the ones to give time it’s name.
The overlord is a looming presence of darkness upon Ninjago but he does not have much presence from beyond the grave, and instead relies on the slow dread of the passage of time to sprinkle seeds of doubt.

Dunno if i posted some of this here, but my outline and such for my fanseason:
Merlin’s Ancestor: The Great Sorcerer The great sorcerer was blessed with great power at birth, like most elemental masters are, however they went against the FSM to share this power with others, creating generations of magic users.
Enraged, the FSM struck down The Great Sorcerer and banned magic, fearing it would cause chaos in ninjago. However people kept practicing magic in secret, and eventually the ban became forgotten, leaving magic to be used however.
Plot
•witch lady wants to steal all magic for her self •tracks down elemental master of magic •recruits him to her side •she researches texts stolen from clouse and vangelis •ninja go to investigate the thefts •encounter merlin •merlin has orders to kill ninja with a special poison, but doesn’t use the poison •kai is separated from group and thought to be dead •fight is drawn to dark island, where witch is drawing power from celestial clock •kai comes back •witch is defeated, merlin is freed and runs off

Anyone else notice that Chen had the blade cup in his trophy hall???
Like how? Did he have someone go to Ouroboros shortly after the whole Devourer mess and grab one then recreate it???

Another oneshot is done! I’ve been on a roll with these lately.
Cole opened his eyes.
Every one of his senses was bombarded with rumbling, falling dust, rubble, danger. It was utter chaos. The earth was shaking below his feet, shaking tall buildings around him, destabilizing foundations, rending cracks in the street. Everywhere he looked, Ninjago City was falling apart.
He looked around. People were screaming, running, wailing. Crying. Dying. Falling. Worse than the Devourer's attack. How was this happening?
In the corner of his vision, something moved. He turned to look. A figure was emerging from the cracks– no, chasms– in the road. Except there was more than one. They approached him, baring their obsidian teeth, laughing evilly. Red eyes shining, armor and weapons of indestructible stone. The signs of the apocalypse.
Cole turned to look behind himself, only to catch sight of the Celestial Clock turning and glinting. Impossible– he was in the city, not the island!
Fear coursed through him as he looked back to the warrior. There was an army of them, on the highest cliff Cole had ever seen, taller than the Mountains of Madness, than his father's standards. No way down, no way to safety, no way to fight. Only their swords and teeth, only them and the Clock. Where were his brothers?!
Desperation clawed at Cole's throat. He didn't want to die yet! This wasn't what was supposed to happen!

I figured it out
So i was re-watching Ninjago, as all nearly adult females do, and when I got to The Island of Darkness, my dad pointed out how The Overlord didn’t seem all too worried about the Green ninja getting golden power. I mean, he had to have known that temple was on the island and where it was located, he was trapped there for how long and you expect me to believe that he just didn’t know about it? You’d think that he would’ve had Garmadon send some security up there to defend it or something. But he didn’t. In fact, when he heard that the ninja had gotten their powers, he didn’t even care! If my memory serves me, he told Garmadon that it didn’t mater because the countdown had already begun and nothing could stop the final battle. This leads me to the point of this post; this wasn’t the only time that the overlord’s priorities seemed a little off.
In the next episode, The last Hope, Misako thinks that she’s found a way to prevent the final battle from happening all together. If you remember all the way back to season 2, then you remember what started the celestial clock that counted down to the last battle was Garmadon removing the Helmet of Shadows from its place on the clock. Misako believes that if they put the helmet back, it would stop the clock, thus stopping the final battle from happening. Yet, when she does, The Overlord isn’t worried about the clock at all. Instead, he says something along the lines of: You fool! If they have the helmet, then they can control the stone army! Really? That’s what you’re worried about here? Who controls the stone army? I don’t know about you guys, but if I was the ultimate evil and my top priority was getting myself freed from being a floating gas ball by starting the final battle, I’d be a little more worried about my enemies getting their hands on the one thing that could prevent that. That’s when I figured it out: The reason putting the helmet back on the celestial clock didn’t work wasn’t because Misako didn’t get it on in time, it was because it was never going to work.
Think about it! Misako had no proof that putting the helmet back on the clock would work, she just didn’t have any proof that it wouldn’t. The ninja were desperate for any plans that might stop the final battle from happening and anything was worth a shot. Even if Misako had gotten the helmet back on the clock with hours to spare, it wouldn’t have prevented the battle from happening, because The Overlord said it himself when Garmadon first removed the helmet, once the countdown begins, nothing can stop it.

"There's only ten seconds left"
Given that Wu finished saying that at 18:25 and the Celestial Clock actually finished its countdown at 18:40, that was not 10 seconds.
Even accounting for the 1-2 second slow-mo scene of Misako jumping, that was still not ten seconds.
