I would swear there was a gundam tumblr floating around here years ago that was deep into the different asthetics of the colonies. Like mood boards and sketches. It also had balls to the wall world-building, took the bare bones of canon and rewrote it, in snippets and drabbles, no actual fic to speak of. Or maybe just one or two chapters of a planned long fic.

I remember one bit of the concept was' what if the colonys were actually behind the gundam program and it wasn't just mad scientists doing it for the vine'. So the pilots were older and actually had some grasp of politics and their own actions.

I remember I loved it and I can't find it. Do you have any idea what I'm talking about?

We have a lot of folks who match that description in the GW Fandom - we actually had a full fanzine dedicated to it back in 2019.

Can you tell us a bit more about the characters? The particular bit about the colonies vs the scientists acting alone could go a couple different ways. On the top of mind....

the thing is from a practical 'would-rather-die-than-be-vulnerable' perspective it makes perfect sense that steve 'picked the wrong base' as many people put it.

as they say 'after being burned by milk one will blow on water', and steve had been burned badly enough in the past. mr. abandonment issues™ practically has rejection sensitivity dysphoria it's that bad. putting himself out there and being rejected is a way scarier prospect than just suffering in silence.

we know being vulnerable and opening up is steve's biggest fear, and there's nothing more vulnerable than opening yourself up to rejection.

moreover, when you have to live so long with no hope of getting what you want you sort of train yourself out of wanting things in the first place, denying himself the luxury of wanting was his entire repressed military life, and with time that ability to hope simply atrophies. being vulnerable feels like opening yourself up for an attack which goes against all his training and all of his defence mechanisms.

steve would never have made a move without knowing for sure that danny feels the same way, especially since he's been wrong before (danny's history with rachel always rears its ugly head).

sure, here danny was literally telling him to 'pick a base', putting everything on the table, but there was a high probability that he was joking and it wasn't a risk steve was willing to take. imagine the nightmare playing in steve's head where he leans in for a kiss and danny pulls away with a 'whoa, whoa, slow your roll, liberace', now, we know danny would never do that but steve's anxiety doesn't.

not only would he 'lose' the game of chicken but danny would know he wants more. unrequited love sucks but the object of it knowing about it? that's so.much.worse, at least for someone like steve. he physically cannot stand being that vulnerable. it feels like losing even more than just silently pining forever.

so, unfortunately, steve picked the right base for his issues, but wrong base for danny's, cause steve's fear of rejection looks like rejection from danny's side which is an insane orouboros of a situation. they really are two halves of a whole idiot in love.

Notes on The Byakuyakoku Collection, “The Third Year of Darkness”:

There seems to be no indication that the people of Enkanomiya worship Istaroth. They acknowledge her existence, have spoken of her punishment (sinshades), but don’t ever seem to speak of worshiping her (as far as I could find). The only gods they appear to worship are Orouboros and Orobashi. Sun children don’t count since they weren’t truly gods. It feels like they acknowledge her, don’t disrespect her… but don’t worship her?

They say “she was the measure of a thousand winds and the sun and the moon”. So… does it matter that they say “moon” and not “moons”? If it does, then it’d imply the age of the moon sisters was prior to the existence of Enkanomiya’s people above ground… aka, before the primordial one… maybe when the “eternal throne made the world anew”

Joy. Rage. Longing. Obsession. Why does only one of these seem good?

“Ruler of the unchanging world” … is this the opposing force to a universe that has no beginning and no end, as it was with the land that once was? The eternity without start or ceasing that Enkanomiya no longer has anything to do with?

It also comes as former McConnell has bemoaned the poor "candidate quality" of GOP nominees for Senate, like Dr. Mehmet Oz in Pennsylvania and Herschel Walker in Georgia, most of whom were nominated on former President Donald Trump's endorsement..."
