i’ve been rewatching outlander and tbh the scene where claire tells jaime the truth is even better than i remembered. there’s something so hilarious and sweet about the way he asks her “so… are you… you know… a witch?” of course it makes sense for a man from the 18th century, still i can’t help but laugh at how silly he looks. but also the confusion in his eyes and the pain in claire’s voice as she tells him the full story and you can tell she’s afraid he won’t believe her—but then jaime does believe her and claire is so relieved, like a whole weight was lifted off her chest all at once.

So I truly did mean to do a complete rewatch of Outlander, I have literally skipped so much of season 4. I just cannot do the whole Brianna/Roger storyline. I can't tolerate her; I can tolerate him even less; I'm so tired of that storyline. I got through all the other seasons, even the ones with Randall, but oh my word. I cannot with Roger.

The pregnancy had only felt real to Claire in the symptoms thus far — namely, the fainting and morning sickness, especially on that god-forsaken ship. The reason behind it all still hadn’t quite sunk in.

She tried not to move in their bunk, lest her stomach rebel, and felt Jamie’s tentative hand rub her back. But she didn’t want tentative with him, so she tugged his uninjured arm around her. Felt his hand settle on her stomach.

“Take it easy on her, m'annsachd.”

“M'annsachd?”

“My blessing,” he answered softly. Not just a child, she thought, blinking away tears.

Geilis and Claire are imprisoned pending their trial for witchcraft. Geilis admits to Claire that she killed her husband Arthur, which isn't a surprise. She also admits that she is devoted to the Jacobite cause. The trial itself has all the makings of a one-sided affair but Ned Gowan arrives in time to provide both of them with something of a defense. The witnesses against them include Geilis' housemaid, a woman who bought a love potion from her and Laoghaire who claims Claire stole Jamie from her with magic. As the trial comes to an end, Ned tells the two women that the only solution is for Claire to save herself by denouncing Geilis. She refuses to do so but Geilis saves her - and reveals her great secret. Jamie takes Claire from the court and Claire tells him the truth about her past...

*The quote that Claire recites to Geillis, 'I only regret that I have but one life to lose for my country', would be uttered 33 years later in 1776 by Nathan Hale, a spy who served in the Continental Army during the American Revolutionary War. Geillis, upon recognizing this quote, looks shocked because this is the moment she realizes that Claire, just like herself, is from the future.
