Polaris and some of the others this morning. As difficult as he is to capture the purple in still frame, video tends to pick it up great! On his son as well toward the middle.

I get to share my second @mdzsrbb partnership for 2023!!! Saichan took my art and ran with it in all the most amazing ways, taking a single thread and making something wonderful.
This fic is all about family, friends, and preparing for an exciting future. Jiang Yanli is at the center of it all, and it was a delight to get to know her this way through Saichan's words.
Y'all know the drill, please go read the fic and give Saichan and A-Jie some love!!

I was really hoping to catch Bug doing this, as she does it all the time and closer but... Enjoy this little guy engaging velociraptor mode/Naruto run instead.
Sometimes peas just get really stupidly excited, and they will do this special little run where they put their head down low, and they'll hold their wings funny, and they just go bolting around, often hopping, sometimes hopping so much it turns into short flights. When one bird sees another doing it, they often get similarly excited and start running and bouncing around too. Bug usually riles up her siblings bolting up and down their pen outside and they'll go careening around inside.
It is SO FUNNY to watch them just drop all pretense of dignity and turn into a little monster hunting for chaos. I have to imagine velociraptors did this, too. Just suddenly no thoughts, only joy and mayhem.

The four peachicks of 2023 that are NOT Bug.
The older 2 are Bug's full siblings from Indie x Aurora. The darker one is male, the lighter one is female. They're being joint raised by Aurora and Eclipse, after Aurora saw Eclipse's nest 2 feet away and decided all eggs belong to Aurora, and piled all her eggs into Eclipse's nest to try to sit on them.
The two blackshoulder chicks are from Polaris x Onyx, who aren't in this pen. The BS babies were hatched (and subsequently abandoned) by Corona, and then adopted by Corona's mothers, Aris (bio) and Arcana (decided 'it's free babies' and somehow didn't get murdered by Aris).
They're all growing well and looking good, but I gotta say I'm exceptionally proud of the BS babies. They are long legged and long necked and I'm vibrating in place wanting to see how they look a few months from now. It's so hard to be patient.

This good boy is going to his new home Wednesday and I, for one, will miss him. He'll be going to a lovely person who is driving up from Kentucky to get him, and will hopefully become part of her journey toward making peafowl with better body types without high Spalding phenotypes. This little guy is very naturally friendly, and I think his new owner will really enjoy hanging out with him. I have been promised updates, and I'm hoping to see and hear that he turns out a lot like his grandaddies, who were both super chill boys.
His brother in the background will be going to a new home at the start of April! Wendy will be going with him, which will be good for him. He's a bit more flighty than his brother, taking after their dad. Hopefully he mellows some with age and his own pen of ladies who like him.

One of the yearlings this morning
They really do have nice color. It's usually pretty hard to take photos where the purple shows well, but they seem to show it well MOST of the time. There can definitely do look blue, but even when they're blue it's a deep royal blue.

I don't normally care for Spaldings, I have a lot of complicated feelings about them. But their looks are hard to argue. This guy's barely 4 months old and has already got killer color. Those blues are slipping right over the gold-green young blues usually have and going right for the blue so rich it starts looking purple.
It's hard to see in these photos, but his belly is also red instead of cream. I'll have to see if I grabbed a better photo of his belly to compare. Indie carries the red buff trait, which is just a line bred erythrism found in some Spaldings. Bug has it, as does Opal, but Eris doesn't. It's hard to see in wild types, but it shows up ridiculously nicely in BS hens, making them a lot more interesting looking.

Indie, our visiting gentleman, is around 15 years old and to my knowledge, has never interacted with peachicks previously. While he's very human-sweet, he's a greedy little thing when it comes to treats, and early on her would chase the girls and later the babies away from treats.
But he's gotten a couple head taps from me (a little tap on the head with one finger, like hen's warning peck when telling the chicks to behave) for going after Bug when she got a treat and he thought it should be his treat. After a good think about it and a couple weeks with babies constantly nearby, he's starting to understand baby social dynamics. He'll let them eat from the same plate as him now, but he draws the line at letting them peck at food on his beak like they do their moms. You can actually see several times where he rears back in offense, but he minds his manners!

The full known linage of the two peachicks on the bottom!
They are purple blackshoulder cocks, and will be het for white or pied (or are dark pied, no way to know which yet). I am REALLY excited for them, even though they were unintentional this year, because they are the first from the blending of Indie and Orion's bloodlines.
They are also, technically speaking, Bug's nephews, as Onyx is Bug's older half-sister.
