Today is the 117th birthday of the world’s oldest living person, Maria Branyas Morera.
Maria was born on 4 March 1907 in San Francisco, USA, but returned to Spain with her family when she was eight to settle in Catalonia.
She's lived in the region ever since and has resided in the same nursing home for the past 23 years.
She became the oldest person on Earth in January 2023, following the death of 118-year-old Lucile Randon (France).
"She is very grateful for all the congratulations received and the interest that so many people have shown in her state of health," said Eva Carrera Boix, the director of Maria's nursing home.
"She is happy to be able to celebrate this special day intimately with her family and colleagues and wishes everyone a happy Monday."
Beyond being hard of hearing and having mobility issues, Maria has no physical or mental health problems.
In fact, she's in such good condition that she has agreed to undergo scientific testing by researchers who hope to gain further insight into the secrets to long life.
Tumblr media
Scientist Manel Esteller, who has conversed with Maria at length, told Spanish outlet ABC:
“She has a completely lucid head. She remembers with impressive clarity events from when she was only four years old, and she does not present any cardiovascular disease, common in elderly people.
It is clear that there is a genetic component because there are several members of her family who are over 90 years old.”
Samples of Maria’s saliva, blood and urine have been taken and will be compared with those of her 80-year-old daughter.
The researchers hope that assessing Maria’s genes will aid the development of drugs which could combat diseases associated with ageing.
Befitting her status as the world’s oldest person in the digital age, Maria is active on X (formerly known as Twitter) with assistance from her daughter.
Her bio states: “I'm old, very old, but not an idiot.”
In addition to “luck and good genetics,” Maria attributes her longevity to “order, tranquility, good connection with family and friends, contact with nature, emotional stability, no worries, no regrets, lots of positivity, and staying away from toxic people.”
Due to her poor hearing, Maria's family use a voice-to-text device to communicate with her.
She became permanently deaf in one ear when she was a child, after falling while playing with her brothers during the voyage from America to Spain in 1915.
This wasn’t the only misfortune the family suffered aboard the ship – Maria’s father sadly died due to pulmonary tuberculosis towards the end of the journey.
Maria lived through the Spanish Flu pandemic of 1918 as well as the Spanish Civil War (1936–1939), which she said she has “very bad memories” of.
Tumblr media
She got married in 1931 to a Catalan doctor named Joan Moret, with whom she had three children.
Her husband passed away in 1976; she has also outlived her only son, August, who died in a tractor accident at the age of 86.
Over a century after the 1918 pandemic, Maria also survived COVID-19.
She contracted the virus a few weeks after turning 113 in 2020 but made a full recovery within days, becoming the world’s oldest COVID-19 survivor.
The title was taken later in the year by Lucile Randon, who was three years older than Maria.
Despite admitting that she’s “getting closer and closer to death” in a post on X last month, Maria maintains a positive outlook on life and believes that there is always something new to learn every day, even at her grand old age.
She is now the 12th oldest verified person in history and should she reach her 118th birthday, she’ll climb up to 5th place.
The oldest person ever authenticated was Frenchwoman Jeanne Calment, who lived to the age of 122 years 164 days.

Tagged by @patchworkgargoyle to asnwer 15 questions!!
1. Are you named after anyone?
In the real world my name is in like top 10 most common ones in my first language which I hate vehemently for that fact alone. Also, maybe I was named after some relatives with that name but that was never an important part of my lore. I dislike the name anyway.
My tumblrsona is Patricia Vetinari, obviously named after the one and only dark flamingo authoritarian usurper, patrician Vetinari. Lady Margolotta was taken at the time I think but I figure it's for the best.
2. When was the last time you cried?
Day before yesterday. There's this OC who makes Ophelia from Hamlet read like a buddy comedy by contrast and that's in no way shaded by the fact that I'm the one writing the tragedy, I'm completely objective.
3. Do you have kids?
I do not and I don't think I'm fit to be a parent. I think about it sometimes though. I think of names and the names for their potential imaginary friends. And what would our favorite board game be and could I possibly sit down and invent it? Who knows.
4. What sports do you play/ have played?
Used to swim. Loved swimming in family time pools and wild waters like lakes. Had a nickname 'Bobber' as a child. Was strongly suggested (read: forced) into more sportish swimming by mother to lose weight. Was bullied out of the swimming club because of my weight. So you could say it all went
Swimmingly.
5. Do you use sarcasm?
Only recreationally.
6. What's the first thing you notice about people?
Clothes. I can't be seriously into fashion, I'm fat and a commie, but I like people watching and seeing the life choices they wear on the outside, of the circumstances they are forced to wear. Either way, most make me sad.
7. What's your eye colour?
Blue. I fee ehh about it. Wanted brown as a teen, would prefer green now. But I can't be bothered with lenses and occasional compliments are nice.
8. Scary movies or happy endings?
Scary movie can have a happy ending if you're not a coward about it. Happy for whom? Which character are we suggested to identify it? What is a happy ending anyway? Can a happy ending be a scary movie? Absolutely.
That being said, I don't do horror well, and I do like when the characters I like get home, get fed, get railed, get fulfilled. If they had to go through a scary movie for that – that's the story, innit?
9. Any talents?
I am a jack of all trades kinda gal. Is loneliness a talent? I'm a maestro at that.
Also I cook well I guess. Some writing is looking good.
I might also be an absolute firecracker in bed but I'd have to get back to you on that after I acquire some empirical evidence, but my theory is strong.
10. Where were you born?
In a hospital in the midst of New Years celebrations in a country that was struggling to be born with me.
11. What are your hobbies?
I have ADHD. Give me a well presented topic and it will become my hobby for a few weeks.
I write silly things about silly people.
I read serious things about silly people.
I run my sims dynasty with an iron fist and a five year plan.
I read about perfumes sometimes. I even wear some and one of these days one of those dainty bottles will get me laid.
I try to learn to play chess. Consistency is key and my inner locksmith hanged himself when I was 13, I still hold memorials for the man and pay a generous pension to his unfortunate widow.
I recently drew a picture of a snake with a muffin.
I sometimes make collages and playlists for my unfortunate OCs.
I currently have 2 moods in music: Eartha Kitt or Vivaldi. No in-between. It's been going on for a month.
I do my best not to have a day without an orgasm (covid has put a slight damper on that but I'm not a quitter).
I duolingo, French. 707 day streak. I will be guillotined for this.
I steal cashew nuts from the office to feed to local birds.
I like vintage kitchens, I make the best hot chocolate, I talk to myself, I plan to turn my life around every other weekend, I go to that drama thing when I don't have a deadly virus ripping through me, I will pet any dog that will have me and any cat that's not fast enough. I've recently broke 400k point record on tetris. I post about all that and more (or less) on my silly little scripture of a blog. I sing badly outside of the shower when nobody's home. In the shower I check if I still can do the wrist lock behind back thing (I can, both sides). I ache for the world and my place in it.
I forgot what the question was, moving on.
12. Do you have any pets?
Beautiful twin monsters, little Deppy (short for Depression) and sweet mild Annie (short for Anxiety). Also a plushie called Fucked Up Evil Little Pudding, he's a sweetheart. My puter is called Bartholomew and we're civil with each other.
This is a very long version of 'I rent. I'm not allowed companionship and warmth of a live being by my side'.
13. How tall are you?
Statuesque 5'2'' in the weird foot measurements. 160 in normal ones.
14. Favourite subject in school?
Chemistry. I was spectacularly bad at it. But I actually tried, the teacher was a few percent less shit than others and sometimes I actually got the material and had wild fantasies of giving old Mendeleev a run for his money. Those dreams were crushed firmly by 11th grade.
15. Dream job?
Sheep farming. Also writing children's books in spare time.
I don't think I know 15 people on here well enough to tag, my affliction is also making me cough my heart out, so please do this if you feel like it and check in on me in a day or so if I had died or not. If you'll have a moment that is.

👤⏰ and 👔 for the GTA 5 ask game?
👤20. If you have a GTAV OC, tell me about them!
Why did I JUST realize @spookydiner literally already asked me about husbandkiller? Sorry bout that. I guess she hasn’t gone anywhere.
She was born on April 28th, 1972 in Barbados and baptized as Lourdes Vil, though by the time she was ten years old she had been given the rather rude nickname “Dog Tooth” on account of the gaps in her teeth. When she was sixteen, she immigrated to Carcer City to live with a family friend, Xaviera, and spent five years working at a nursing home.
In the winter of 1992, Lourdes met and began to sleep with a man named Armand, the son of a resident at the home. With his help, she and Xaviera began counterfeiting US currency and traveling cross-country to spend their ill-gotten gains on untraceable material assets. Lourdes developed a taste for the finer things during this time, and she enjoyed the freedom, spontaneity and ever-changing scenery.
Unfortunately, a few years into this lifestyle, the site which the duo had previously used to make their bills was discovered and their assets stashed back in Carcer City seized. Shortly thereafter, she and Xaviera had a nasty falling out. Lourdes took her share of their remaining money and drifted to San Andreas, changing her name to “Mable” to be less identifiable. In 2003, she got married to Butch Stewart, the owner of the Alamo Auto Salvage. Butch was a neglectful and stingy husband, due in part to his distraction with Sarah Vincent, a member of the Lost MC.
Butch eventually got Sarah pregnant, and she gave birth to a son named Carl. When Mable found out, she shot Butch in his sleep, burning his corpse in the scrap yard’s incinerator. As inheritor of the estate, she continued to work with both the Lost and other local gangs, disposing of evidence and bodies alike. She keeps tabs on the Lost in case someone in their corner gets pissy about Butch’s death.
Mable has a brand of a heart with an arrow through it on her upper back, and she gets fatter as she ages. When Tonya eventually wanders to Sandy Shores in withdrawal, Mable gives her a place to recover.

⏰ 3. How long have you been into GTA V (or the GTA series in general?)
Since late 2020. I started school in the dead of winter, in the middle of full-swing Covid restrictions, coming out of one of the worst periods of my life. I played on a projector in my dorm room. Loved it. The sunny, lighthearted atmosphere really kept me sane.
👔 13. What is your favourite clothing store in-game?(Ponsonbys, Binco, Suburban, discount stores)
Suburban. They’ve got the best options for all three characters; the discount store is kinda Trevor’s place, Ponsonbys’ is for Michael (and Frank’s earrings,) etc. I really wish we had more jewelry options for all three of the mains. I LOVE those little studs Franklin can wear, and I really think Michael would look good in a watch. And we can put Trevor in nipple rings.

That Moment of Silence Between
Tumblr media
Okay. I have decided to cancel my "True Confessions" series. That's my decision and there's not a rulebook by which anyone can call a penalty on that. I will tell you, however, that I still read the newspaper every morning. Yep, the real newspaper. Based on your age, world perspective, feelings about 5AM technology, etc.--you may be asking "What's a newspaper?" or "They still do that?" Yes, they do! I cannot even wake up early enough to see the paper-boy on his bicycle toss it over the Hell Bitch (that is still not quite fitting in the garage) and onto my sidewalk. But between 5:35 and 5:40AM every morning, I creep out my front door, pick up the paper, and scamper back into the house before joggers see me and my morning-hair.
I read all the paper. By "read" I mean that I generally parse headlines until I get to the comics. Then in the comics, there's this weird one I've started to read this year: "Judge Parker." In case you don't know--this is one of those "boring comics" that I'd never read until one day I did and never stopped. Judge Parker was a widower and a judget with two children, Randy and Ann. Later, Judge Parker married a younger woman, Kate. Initially he was a dashing figure who solved crimes and chased criminals, he kind of turned into a dull and serious judge who rarely strayed from his courtroom--and the strip began to transition away from the Judge and over to Sam Driver, a young attorney. I mean. I don't even know how Sam relates to Judge Parker. I couldn't tell you who Judge Parker was anymore. But anyway, there's a lot of drama. And today, Sam and Abbey are split up, their world is torn asunder and Abby says the above:
"...exist in that moment of silence between what was and what will be."
Silly Judge Parker. But not so silly today. What Abby said stuck with me as she described that place. That place between what was and what will be.
THAT PLACE BETWEEN WHAT IS AND WHAT WILL BE.
Tumblr media
Okay--now I'm switching over to Top Gun: Maverick for a few minutes. Too close for missles, so I'm switching to guns. Ha ha. Mayday, mayday, Mav's in trouble, he's in a flat spin, he's headed out to sea. That's what Iceman said into the radio when Mav's F-14 flew right through Ice's jetwash. And the thing is, it was just a freak accident. But Mav's RIO (radar intercept officer) Goose hit his head on the canopy when ejecting, and the rest, as they say, is history.
So. Top Gun. Yeah. Remember how I'm sure I said something about how my parents never let me see any movies growing up? Top Gun was different. I was 12. My little brother was 8. My dad had been in the Navy. Not sure of all the backstory, but my dad took my brother and I to the Los Alatos movie theatre in Albuquerque to see Top Gun. I mean. Wow. WOW. That open scene and where the Top Gun anthem and all the jets and the fog and how it explodes into Kenny Loggins' DANGER ZONE. WOW. I'd gone to 12-year old heaven. But then when the profanity started flying and the TAKE MY BREATH AWAY SO MUCH TONGUE--I was suer that I was going to full time hell, and kept glancing over at my dad to notice him totally geeking out over the NAVY JETS, and then checked over at my brother to make sure his head was on fire, I settled in and Top Gun became my thing. I eventually bought it on VHS and made an audio recording of it on cassette for my Walkman. While other kids were playing real music, I was jamming out to just listening to the audio of Top Gun. I had the whole thing memorized. I was going to be a Naval Aviator. I don't know. Then when I was 13 we moved from Albuquerque to Texas.
Anyway. When I heard that Top Gun: Maverick was coming out way back in 2019 for summer 2020--I made plans with my dad (and brother) to go and see the sequel. How amazing and lucky it was/is to get that chance. But then COVID delay 1. Then COVID delay 2. Then FINALLY in May 2022, it happened. We saw it together, all the families were there. The genius innovation of reserved seats made the same row possible. Left work early. Met everyone there. Finally. And it was truly as good and actually much better than I'd thought possible. I sat until the very last second of the credits. No one else was left in that place. Went out to the lobby, hugged my brother and dad. It was a moment, truly. Sometimes you win, 36 years later. Lucky, blessed, charmed, whatever--it was a moment.
I'd see it as many more times as I can without being too weird and I guess soon it'll be streaming. But that's not why I bring it up. I bring it up because a cool thing happened--in July, I had to do something called The Predictive Index thing with HR. The Predictive Index is one of those new tools that help give you insight into yourself as a HUMAN, as an EMPLOYEE, and as a MANAGER or TEAM MEMBER. I'm in the process of doing this myself--but then also asking my team to do it so I can just be better. Hey, any insight is good insight? I guess? But when insight isn't good, maybe it can just be GREAT! I took this tool--which you fill out to measure your cognitive abilities, personality traits, and behavioral tendancies--and it said that I am a:
Tumblr media
Right? Maybe this is the perfect tool. Or maybe I am. Whatever.
Tumblr media
I'm not quite sure yet whether or not this is just kind of like a horoscope yet, because I haven't looked at what other people might be. But LOOK--the tool said I AM MAVERICK, and kind of hit the nail on the head with a few things. Even a jet, the F14 original Top Gun style and not the new F18 style--so maybe that is because I am an OLD Maverick. We'll see.
Tumblr media
Maybe you probably won't be lucky enough to ever manage me, or manage anything for that matter, maybe you're a full-manager, maybe you're a freaking manager of managers, all you do is manage until you're blue in the face, but you should totaly take your PI and see if it somehow relates to your favorite movie or life or when you were 12.
Right now my favorite part of Top Gun: Maverick has to do with the character of Phoenix (pictured below). She is a badass and in one scene she has my favorite line of the whole movie. SPOILER ALERT--it happens when essentially Maverick has to STEAL A JET because he's just been fired so that he can prove to his mean John Hamm Admiral Boss that he is the best of the best and it really can be done--well he STEALS A JET and proves that miracles can happen--while he is doing it, right before he does it, they cut to Phoenix who says in the coolest voice ever, "Nice."
Tumblr media
That's my point.
There's what happens in that moment between what has happened and what will happen. Sometimes I feel like I'm stuck right there where anything is possible. Like the Lottery. Like when the missle that's going to blow your jet smithereens is fired and when it hits. Like the space between jump and gravity and impact--or flight. Like that little blink between laughter and tears. There's that moment.
"Nice."
Worth the price of admission, even 36 years later.

Sampark is a Best NGO Company In Bangalore
Sampark’s mission is to help vulnerable and poor people, especially women, to gain direct control over and improve their lives. This is achieved through educational interventions primarily aimed at increasing people’s income earning ability. Sampark is a Best NGO Company In Bangalore.
Research from Harvard University shows that “In the first few years of life, more than 1 million new neural connections are formed every second”¹ (InBrief: The Science of Early Childhood Development, 2007). The graph below also aptly sheds light on the rapid escalation in the development of various functions in the brain of a human, not just in the first few years but in the first few months after birth.
Therefore, the foundational construction of a human brain takes place in the first 6–8 years of their life and the presence of Early Childhood Care and Development (ECCD) in this phase plays a significant role in deciding if this foundation is robust or frail.
The young brain requires the right nutrition, education and stimulations in the developing stages to ensure that the train for domains like language, cognitive ability, motor skills, emotions, adaptive ability etcetera is set on the right track. Research shows that ECCD is closely tied to the future level of education obtained, job prospects and income status of an individual. In the study “Positioning ECCD in the 21st Century” analysis of a group of children who participated in an ECCD program and a group of children that did not participate in an ECCD program (control group) over 27 years showed that the ECCD program children at the age of 27 “had earnings markedly higher”, “were more likely to be homeowners” and “had formed more stable relationships and marriages” compared to the control group (Arnold, n.d.)³. Hence, when considered cumulatively for the entire younger population it is safe to assert that ECCD holds the power to shape the quality of the life of the future generations and can consequently make drastic changes to the economy of a country.
Data shows that “Children belonging to economically vulnerable communities and other traditionally marginalized communities and groups including children living in emergency and migratory situations have less or no access to ECCE/ECD and ECI services” (UNESCO, 2022)⁴. A 5.8 : 1 benefit-to-cost ratio from ECCD was observed in Egypt for the most disadvantaged children (Arnold, n.d.-a)⁵. Young children of families living in poverty are often left unattended when the adults work at an extreme time schedule to support the family. These children are not exposed to befitting learning or activities, such as doing puzzles or basic communication with their families, that induce brain development. Furthermore, the lack of nutritious and timely meals puts their physical and mental health at risk. They are also subject to unsanitary and unsafe surroundings as they live in temporary settlements, often close to where their parents work. This implies that by introducing ECCD programs and making them available to the poorest sections of the society we are taking steps towards eradicating poverty and improving the life expectancy and quality of people living in unfavorable conditions. Establishing a strong intellectual basis, stable mentality, and sturdy health will help harness the capabilities of these children and administer a beneficial future.
The COVID-19 pandemic has been a major hindrance to the advancements made in the field of ECCD worldwide. Research pointed out that “the COVID-19 pandemic response has relatively neglected young children, resulting in them becoming the greatest victims of the pandemic due to its lifelong impact on their education, health, nutrition, and well-being” (UNESCO, 2022-a)⁶. Statistics from the 2022 Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) report showed that “149.2 million children under the age of 5 suffer from stunting in 2020”, “22.7 million children missed basic vaccines in 2020”, and “147 million children missed over half of in-person instruction in 2020–21” (United Nations, 2022)⁷ which emphasizes the extensive setback the main scopes of ECCD have faced.
In regard to the current status of ECCE work, in the World Conference on Early Childhood Care and Education (WCECCE) in November of 2022, the idea of Accountability was brought into light. While discussing the legal frameworks related to ECCE, the UN Committee stressed on how for the ECCE programs to be effective and understood by the public, their importance needs to be accentuated in the state policies. Furthermore, just implementing policies will be futile if active efforts are not made to assess their potency, and the potential shortcomings after implementation. Data collection and assessment has been highlighted as the tool to regularly understand the requirements on this issue and to aid in the decision making process. Through statistics like “73% of children between three to six years of age do not attend the pre-school services provided by AWCs in urban areas and 57% in rural areas across India’’ (“The Status of Early Childhood Development in India: Will We Reach the Countdown to 2030 Targets?,” 2021)⁸ the dearth of awareness regarding the availability of resources for ECCD is evident. It was also reported that while the facilities had been set up, the infrastructure was not up to the mark, sufficient experts were not present to guide parents and children, and there was insufficient “teaching learning material”(“The Status of Early Childhood Development in India: Will We Reach the Countdown to 2030 Targets?,” 2021-a)⁹. Therefore, execution of advertising the facilities and providing optimum quality to the people who attend has not been done.

Challenge of Technology Adoption for SMEs In India
India has over 7.9 million micro, small and medium enterprises (MSME) as of March 2022. MSMEs contributed nearly 27% of India's GDP in the year 2021. Apart from GDP contributed through MNCs, small and medium enterprises in India play a significant role in elevating the numbers by enhancing the country's overall economy, increasing the employment rate, and increasing productivity. The interpretation of small and medium-sized enterprises (SME) differs from country to country; some categories it based on the revenue, the number of employees or the investment made. As they play a massive role in the Indian economy, the government has released various policies that SMEs can implement to improve and bring in maximum profits, improve entrepreneurship, eradicate poverty, increase job opportunities, and more.
As SMEs are still in the progress of growth, there are a lot of limitations they encounter, one of such is technology. To meet the industry level and reach the objectives organised, SMEs must be aware of and acquainted with the latest technologies and software’s available to make the procedure easier while increasing productivity and marketing efforts. The recent COVID-19 pandemic has played a crucial role in how these SMEs have revolutionised the means they incorporate technology for operating their businesses.
Here are a few challenges SMEs encounter while enforcing technology in their enterprise:
1.
Lack of technical knowledge
Being conscious of your industry gives you the upper hand. As the budget is low in SMEs, recruiting and disciplining employees into highly qualified technical experts becomes an obstacle. The Indian government has developed programs such as the Entrepreneurship Skill Development Programme (ESDP) and Assistance to Training Institutions (ATI) for youth and personnel interested in acquiring technical and managerial skills.
 2.
Oblivious of the device rules and policies
Organisations must precisely interpret the devices they operate with and their boundaries. The employees must be instructed about the latest guidelines and the appropriate measures. As data is associated with every element, securing them is also a significant responsibility of the firm.
3.
Limited equity flow
Generally, allies with the same idea or family members start a business jointly with their own finances. Small businesses fail in the initial stages due to a lack of funding. Companies need more resources to invest in the latest technologies and marketing strategies. To advance and sustain the economy in the country, the Indian government has developed schemes such as the Credit Guarantee rust Fund for Micro & Small Enterprises (CGT SME) and Interest Subsidy Eligibility Certificate (ISEC) for SMEs to be benefited.
4.
Rigid towards adapting to the latest technology
Financial constraints are powerful reasons companies are not adapting to cutting-edge technologies. The SMEs must be updated with the latest technologies at the same pace as their customers.
They should always stay ahead in terms of automation and the internet. Most of the organisation's functionalities get simpler with the implementation of technology.
5.
Overlooking data backup and security
The biggest mistake made by small and medium-sized companies is that they underestimate data security and backup. Companies need colossal funding to invest in data backup, restoration, server crashes, or other data disasters. They need to recognise that initial investment in providing solutions to these problems will help them save abundance in the near future. It’s Wednesday. One of my neighbors’ Wi-Fi networks is called itburnswhenIP.
“Life Saga” is another serious song, so apologies for any somber cringiness that follows.
Songs 38 - 49 are lyrically driven (with the exception of song 47), and most of them are dark. The struggles that I was experiencing at the time don’t make me unique. You have probably experienced equally, if not more difficult times in your life.
“Life Saga” is taking a step back and describing an ideal life from birth to death. A life focused on family over everything else. Specifically the family that you create, not born into. I don’t necessarily agree with the lyrics today, as I’m not particularly interested in having children at the moment, but the lyrics depict how I felt at the time.
The genre is basically rock, but swap out the guitars with 8-bit / chiptune synthesizers. 8-bit video game synthesizers are popular among my generation (late millennials), because many of us grew up playing NES, SNES and Game Boy (the name GoBoy is even inspired by Game Boy).
The drums are inspired by Travis Barker.
Once again, there’s some hesitancy in my voice (explained in post 38). I wouldn’t fully regain my confidence following the seven-year hiatus until midway through GoBoy 5. The lack of confidence was a result of the personal disaster that was “Throwback (Song 23),” which ultimately lead to the hiatus. You can read about that in posts 23 and 36.
This paragraph sounds somewhat sarcastic, but I promise it’s 100% heartfelt. While the lyrics were fueled by anger, and possibly undiagnosed depression, the creative release brought about a feeling of euphoria that I hadn’t experienced before. I sobbed during the creation of this song, not out of sadness, but out of the joy of rediscovering creativity after a seven-year hiatus (more about the hiatus in posts 23 and 36). The combination of dark lyrics and euphoric feelings was strange. This emotional release continued throughout songs 40-49. Long, ugly sobs for each of them (excerpt from post 40).
In April, 2021, almost all of GoBoy 3, 4 and 5‘s songs were restructured to be under 2m 30s, including this song. In an attempt to increase replay value in this streaming era, most of GoBoy’s songs are now purposely around 2m 20s (excerpts from post 38).
A bass boost was added to songs 37-99 in Nov, 2021, while I was stuck at home with covid. As a result, this song feels more powerful. The bass boost isn’t a simple plugin nonchalantly added to each song. It’s a process that took about 3.5 hours per song, or one whole month to complete all songs. Admittedly, I pushed the bass boost a little too far for some of them. The bass in some songs sounds like a freaking earthquake (unnecessarily pronounced low frequencies 20 - 50 Hz). Might dial that back someday. The bass boost was also applied to every song on GoBoy 6 and beyond (excerpt from post 37).

My Top Posts in 2022:

My personal reading of Childe... I’ve seen him described as “bloodthirsty” but I honestly don’t think that’s a fair descriptor. If he truly enjoyed fighting and killing purely for the fun of it (in the most general sense), I reason that he would be a much more considerable threat to innocent people, whereas in his Archon Quest dialogue, he specifically refers to his distaste for involving “the weak,” doing so only as a last resort.
On the topic of the Archon Quest, I think it’s important to recall that Childe’s involvement in the Liyue chapter was a prearranged role in Zhongli’s stepping-down process, which was mostly, if not all, planned and staged. I wouldn’t be surprised if Childe leaned into his interest in theater (as cited in one of his Character Story anecdotes) and dramatized his villainy beyond the level in which he typically indulges. (My personal interpretation of Childe as a character very much highlights his “theater kid” energy. 😝)
Outside of the Archon Quest, though... his story quest and Serenitea Pot dialogue bring his gentle side to the forefront. Even if his methods aren’t the most well thought-out and logically sound, he clearly prioritizes the happiness and safety of his family. He recognizes his involvement in the Fatui and his thirst for battle as something “dark” that he should hide from his kid brother Teucer to protect his innocence. Even the fans I know who actively disliked Childe before they played his story quest were touched by the drastic measures he took to ensure Teucer’s safety.
(Side note I personally find interesting: Childe’s Character Details describe him as “at odds" with the Fatui’s “deceitful” methods... in the Archon Quest, while he can talk smooth and not give the whole truth, he doesn’t outright lie to the Traveler. When he does lie--for example, telling Teucer that he’s a toy seller--it’s specifically in an attempt to protect his family.)
Recalling his reluctance to involve innocents, it also stands out to me that in his Serenitea Pot greeting, after proposing a sparring match, he presumably judges that the Traveler rejects his challenge, and doesn’t force them to fight him against their will. It’s a minute detail, but I feel that if Childe was truly “bloodthirsty” and selfish through and through, he would be much more pushy about challenging the Traveler, an opponent he knows is stronger than him and can give him the thrill he actively seeks when going into battle.
I’m definitely not claiming that Childe doesn’t enjoy fighting, as that’s indeed a significant part of his personality and history... but it’s not all of it, and I don’t think he’s as recklessly violent a person as he seems on the surface--at least, not all the time. In my personal opinion, the reduction of his character “oh he’s a dude who likes fighting” is an oversimplification that only takes into account the limited perspective we can glean from the Archon Quest, at the expense of the other facets that take figurative center stage in the other parts of his story.
He seeks out stronger opponents and also enjoys theater... personally, I’d say it’s more accurate to call him an adrenaline junkie.

Whenever I have anxiety about a Scary New Process™️ with potentially a lot of logistics to consider--for example, buying a new car--it always helps me to think of that post about designing bear-proof garbage cans at national parks that said "there is considerable overlap between the smartest of bears and the dumbest of tourists." No matter how complex or daunting my anxiety may make the Scary New Process™️ out to be, I just remind myself that it must be a simple enough process that even those "dumbest of tourists" are able to figure it out and complete it successfully, so from a logical standpoint, there is really nothing to worry about

My #1 post of 2022
Alhaitham is great, actually
Spoilers for Sumeru story quests (Chapter 3, parts 1-4) ahead
If I had one Mora for every time someone called Alhaitham “a walking red flag...”
My personal reading of him is that he’s walking proof that “logical and realistic” isn’t mutually exclusive with “understanding and respectful of emotions,” because he is absolutely both.
Honestly, I find his character really refreshing. Too often, a “rational” character gets oversimplified as one who values facts and empirical evidence to the point of wholly rejecting the importance of feelings. It’s true that Alhaitham is not the most expressive guy on the outside, but he’s not totally dismissive of emotions (his own or others’), either.
In Port Ormos, Alhaitham readily tells the Traveler that he’s dealing with illegal goods and the stakes are high, and explicitly gives them the option to back out of the deal if they find it unsavory. (Compare to Childe and Thoma, who were not as upfront about what they were asking the Traveler to do--regardless of whether it was for nefarious purposes.) Later, at the gathering in Aaru Village, he demonstrates that he can acknowledge and apologize for when his actions could bring harm to others. In my opinion, this sincerity and sensitivity makes him more trustworthy than a lot of the characters we’ve met so far.
Tumblr media
Even though he is a scholar who is primarily concerned with factual evidence, it’s not like he’s entirely emotionless. He recognizes his own personal motivations and limitations, as well as their place in a wider context--that someone with as logical and analytical a perspective as him can come off as “callous.” He considers others’ feelings and motivations as well, and even if they’re not flawlessly rational, he doesn’t necessarily outright reject them. His attitude makes him seem cold, but he’s actually a perceptive and understanding person.

Reviews for Survival: The Covid Years
My third book Survival: 'The Covid Years' is on out with @Zooloos Book Tours. Why not tag along and see what they're saying about the book.
Part blurb and your reason for buying the book...
“By shedding light on her personal challenges through the pandemic, Ilana encourages the reader to explore the thoughts and feelings raised by their own pandemic journey. In this way she aims to unlock future potential for others, enabling them to move on from this enormously difficult time. A must read for anyone wanting to take positive steps after the challenges of Covid-19.”
Review by Sambooka23
@ilana_estelle_author - you know how much I have loved your last two books and this was no different. Always so raw and true. I know how I felt during Covid and the lockdown, before I became a key worker, I was furloughed for six months and it eventually played with my mental health. I can’t imagine how it would have been for you, Ilana or anyone suffering with a disability.
This book was a hard read in the aspect that the emotion is so pure, so raw and honest. In some ways, it’s a hard read to hear how much you had to retrain your mindset and write letters to yourself to help with how you were feeling - a good idea but also hard to read.
You made me think of feelings and challenges that I went through during the pandemic that threw my life out of control. Living day by day wondering what was happening, how my family were and unable to see my Gran, Grandpa and brother for 4 months.
Yet, Ilana is still positive throughout it all and she learns from her feelings. Despite her life feeling out of control and having to adapt to a new way of living with her disability and being vulnerable, she doesn’t let it get to her and writes a book about it. Helping not only her but her readers explore their thoughts and feelings regarding Covid.
An open and honest book regarding the struggles and effects the pandemic had on Ilana and how she got herself through the shielding, isolating and lockdowns.
Thank you to @ilana_estelle_author and @reddoorbooks for sending me a copy of your book and to @zooloosbooktours for having me on tour with you!
The Bookish Hermit (Laura)
When Covid and quarantines hit the nation I think it’s fair to say that everybody struggled more than they thought they would, what we all hoped would be something that resolved itself in a matter of weeks or months, turned into a global pandemic and possible catastrophe!
The mental health and general health of thousands of people was affected, people who had never experienced things like anxiety and depression before were hit with it. Covid was killing people and we all slowly began to realize that this thing was not going to go away.
Survival the Covid years is one woman’s story, it’s raw and totally honest. Ilana Estelle was diagnosed with autism when she was 56 years old in 2019. I cannot even begin to imagine what coming to terms with this diagnosis was like at that age and having the pandemic to deal with on top of that must have been horrendous.
Ilana tells us her story here, she goes into detail about her thoughts, feelings and emotions. She explains her struggles clearly, everything is written in a way that’s easy to understand and relate to. She also shares her experiences and coping mechanisms and strategies with us.
It doesn’t matter who you are, I can guarantee that you will all get something from this book! It’s beautifully written and contains many things that many people need to hear right now. I really want to say more! This lady has an incredible story and I really want to thank her personally for sharing it!
Go pick this one up people!
An easy 5 stars! 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
I would like to say a massive thank you to Zooloos Book Tours (@ZooloosBT) for gifting me a free review copy of this book! Views and opinions are my own and have not been influenced by anyone.
If you're interested in grabbing a copies of the book, you can order Kindle or paperback copies on Amazon, and through the following link https://linktr.ee/Ilana_Estelle

General Stuff To Start With What name do you go by most often? Stephanie or just Steph.
Is that your real name or a nickname? Both.
Has your birthday come yet this year? No, but it’s coming up on the 28th.
Where is your mom right now? She’s at home. She would have been here, but she wasn’t feeling well and is waiting to get tested for COVID...
What were you doing at 4pm? Doing a survey and watching YouTube videos.
Are you a good speller? I think so.
Who was the last person to give you a ‘high-five’? I don’t recall.
Would you consider yourself a shy person? Yes.
Can you play the guitar? Nope.
Three things you ate today? I can’t have actual food right now, so all I get is feeding tube supplements. I miss actual food and drinks so bad. :( I used to complain a lot about how eating sometimes felt like a chore, but I sure miss it now after not be able to do so for over 2 months now.
What did you do last Sunday? I watched my church’s livestream, did my usual stuff like check my social medias, scroll through Tumblr, watch YouTube videos, visited with my mom and dad, rested. And the usual stuff I do everyday while in the hospital like have my meds and get my vitals checked.
How many orange shirts do you own? I think I only have one and it’s not completely orange, it’s orange and black tie-dye.
Are you currently taking any prescription medications? Several now.
Do you like skim milk? No, I drink soy, almond, or oat milk. Oat milk is the best.
How did you bring in the New Year? Watched the NYE shows on TV and hung out with my mom.
Are you missing anyone right now? Yes. I’m really sad my mom couldn’t come today, but obviously we couldn’t risk it if she might have COVID. I really hope she doesn’t, but my dad and brother do, and she had been fine up until today. They of course can’t visit either, so if they all have it then I won’t see them for awhile. :(
If you could relive one moment in the past week what would it be? I wouldn’t. I want to keep moving forward and closer to getting better and going home eventually....
If you could spend 30 minutes with someone who is gone, who would you pick? My grandma.
Biggest mistake to date? Ignoring health related issues and self-neglect over the years that I’m greatly paying the price for now.
Where did you go to grade school at? A local elementary school.
Have you ever lived in Tennessee? No.
Idaho? No. I’ve been there a couple times, though.
Nebraska? No.
Maryland? No.
Texas? No.
Does anyone in your family smoke? Not in my immediate family.
How many of the people you live with are over 21? All 4 of us are.
Who do you wish you could talk to right this moment? My mom. I’m really upset because she has COVID and I’m worried about that, plus she obviously can’t come to visit me at the hospital so I’m likely not going to see her for at least a week. She’s had all the shots, so I’m praying it’s not too bad for her and when she tests again in like 5 days I think it is she’ll test negative. My dad and brother have it, too, so they can’t come either. I’m stuck here alone feeling miserable for other reasons and they’re all sick at home feeling miserable. This sucks.
How many clocks are in the room you are in? One wall clock, plus the clocks on my laptop and phone.
Do you use MSN messenger? No. I never used MSN, I had AIM and Yahoo Messenger.
What time will it be in 6 hours? 1:17AM.
Have you kissed anyone in the last week? No.
Do you enjoy classic rock? Yeah, some.
Have you ever been told you looked like someone famous? No.
Are you anemic? Yes. I was severely anemic when I was first admitted back in May.
At Christmas, do you have a fake or a real tree? We got a real tree every year of my life except for last year when I finally agreed to try out an artificial tree. It was cool that it was quickly assembled and the lights were already on it. Plus, it had a cool feature that allowed you to change the light colors and add an effect to it like flashing or switching between the different colors. Nothing beats the real thing, though.
Do you usually go watch fireworks on the 4th of July? Just from the front yard of my house. This year I just saw them on TV since I was here in the hospital.
Do you remember when the game Oregon Trail was really popular? Yeah.
Does anyone have your heart? My loved ones.
What did you do last Valentine’s Day? It was just another day.
Can you count to 20 in any other language? Yeah, Spanish.
How old were you in 2001? 12.
In 1973, how many years was it until you were born - or were you born? 16.
Have you ever had a crush on someone, and found out they liked your friend? Yes.
Have you ever been liked by someone you didn’t expect would like you? Yes.
Who ended your last relationship? He did.
How do you feel about that? I was heartbroken. It’s been several years now, though, and I’ve long since moved on.
Do Mondays get you down? All my days are the same.
How long have you been at your current job? I don’t have a job.
Have you ever been fired? I’ve never had a job.
How many times have you been pulled over by the cops? Zero. I also don’t drive.
What is your mood like right now? I’m upset about the whole situation with my family being sick with covid as well as the fact that they won’t be able to visit for several days and I’m stuck here alone. I’m also just miserable from dealing with my health issues and being here in the hospital.
Where did you go today? I can’t go anywhere.
Do you know anyone who is pregnant right now? Not that I know of.
Do you cut the crusts off your sandwiches? Yes.
Do you prefer sweet or unsweetened tea? I like to add a packet or two, so sweet but not too sweet.
Who did you last embarrass yourself in front of? I don’t know.
Would you rather meet the president or win $500 dollars from the lottery? $500, please.
What was the reason you last smiled? Something my nurse said.

#8 Sail Croatia
I’m beat. I’m so glad I did a 5 day sail and not the usual 8. Sailing isn’t always my cup of tea in general; not that I get travel sickness often but it was always going to be interesting, that and the alcohol consumption together! We actually docked in Dubrovnik the first night, around 6pm there was a welcome dinner and I was able to meet everyone. About half the boat had started in Split; and roughly 12 more of us joined from Dubrovnik. Welcome drinks began on the boat, the ye’ old ring the bell to shout the boat shots - which worked out like $12 a round - quickly got us underway! So good! And we headed out in Dubrovnik though the lineup took an hour to even enter the building with a ticket! It was inside the city walls though which was cool! At 130 kuna or $30 for a vodka coke though; it was steep!! We danced, seeked greasy food in old town and ventured back to the boat. Lemme tell you, the rooms are hardcore tiny. Two bunks, one square meter of floor space, and a wet room.. all in one, shower, toilet and sink. As I write this, I couldn’t be happier to be heading to the airport bound for a hotel - sail boats certainly utilise space in a way that - let’s be honest, I never want to see again. Wednesday we ventured onward to Korčula. We had a few swim stops along the way, and the daily three course lunch which was actually delicious every day! We ventured around the town at Korčula, ate gelato and had some cocktails at the top of a tower, where they pulley up your drinks on the outside to the roof top! Very cool. We then had a wine tasting tour, delish! And the 15 year old was leading it! Crazy! Definitely taking the family business over! That night, Lis had a few too many bevvy’s and the nemesis tequila shots with a few great humans on our boat from Sydney and Auckland. I tried to rally the DJ to play Land Down Under with no success, and FaceTimed Louis at 3am for his 3rd birthday back home. Hopefully he forgets that real quick. Thursday; we were supposed to head to Hvar, which is supposed to be equally stunning and fun by night! But apparently the port was full so we had to go to Brač instead. It was still stunning, though the sail there was bloody tough! Lucy slipped me some anti nausea drugs though and we survived the seas. It was a pretty chill night after a big one, we had dinner as a group and wandered the quaint little town of Milner. Friday, the rain found us. Thankfully it was a short sail onto Split, as those seas were choppy! I slept part of the way thankfully! In split we ventured through the old town area, most were getting ready for the Ultra festival, but I was stoked to have not pre purchased the ticket as the immune system is low and I felt average af. Ameera, whose from the US, and I went for dinner and had Croatias famous Chevâpis. Little sausages I guess! More gelato and some wandering around later, we went back to the boat, chilled with the group about to head to Ultra, and then I had an early night! Not overly well this morning, the whole boat is pretty average, the croatia cough has us - not the covid biz, but run down for sure! No rest for the wicked though! After our goodbyes, I’m currently busing it to Split Airport, ready to connect through to Stuttgart Germany and onto Portugal, to meet my German sister Linda! It’s been 4 years! Can’t wait!
