godzilla minus one did my heart so, so good. the theme of we can make a difference this time set against the japanese war machine and geopolitics out of your control, the prototype plane that looks like it's flying in reverse as a visual symbol of valuing life over pointless death, the idea of sacrifice only being valuable if it saves someone, and how saving yourself can be the thing that redeems you......... y'all...

So I know that Ezra’s flirtation with the Dark Side is generally considered to be his lowest point in the series, and AUs where he’s an inquisitor are almost always tragic and depressing…but for a while I’ve been playing around with an AU that’s basically a cracky dark comedy — one where Deputy Director Wren of the Advanced Weapons Research Division carries on a sometimes-secret-but-other-times-not-so-much romance with the new Grand Inquisitor. 🤪 For some reason I’ve had a ton of fun writing dark!Sabezra from their own Imperial POV, so I wanted to share this meet-cute (or meet-evil?) snippet:
“You know, this would have been a lot easier if you were already dead!”
“Do you expect me to apologize for that?!”
“Yes, yes I do! This entire errand is completely beneath me!”
As a Mandalorian — even if her people reviled her — Sabine had no particular affinity for Force-wielding maniacs. The galaxy was a lot better off without thousands of do-gooder Jedi frolicking from system to system, starting wars and spreading chaos on their endless crusade to convince themselves of their own piety. She knew significantly less about the Sith and their acolytes, but after a total of twenty minutes in the company of the Grand Inquisitor, she couldn’t say that her opinion had improved much.
“Too bad for you, Governor Tarkin wants me back in one piece,” she spat. Brushing hair out of her face, she peeked from behind the stack of supply crates to fire a few more shots at Saw Gerrera’s terrorist minions, still pouring out of the base by the dozen. “Half of these traitors are wearing stolen Imperial armor. If High Command stopped dumping credits into Stardust and gave me what I needed to mass-produce the Duchess, we wouldn’t be in this mess!”
The inquisitor’s red blade hummed past her ear as he swatted a blaster bolt back across the airfield, striking a Tognath directly between the eyes. Standing over her, shielding them both from the Rebel volley with one arm folded behind his back, he did cut an impressive figure — tall and broad-shouldered with his dark hair tied into a knot and beard trimmed meticulously, he wielded a cold resolve that Sabine was very glad to have on her side at the moment…not that she’d admit as much, of course.
“In case you didn’t notice,” he hissed, “I’m wearing Imperial armor too!”
“Believe me, I noticed!”
As miserable as her capture had been, her rescue wasn’t going very well either. Gerrera’s men had blown up the inquisitor’s TIE before they could escape, and the old Republic airbase — now a Rebel airbase, she supposed — was nestled in the heart of a canyon, providing an irritatingly effective natural defense against enemy fighters and bombers. Their reinforcements were already long overdue, but at this point, nothing less than a platoon of death troopers could drive off the swarming rebels.
With a flick of his wrist, the Grand Inquisitor sent a thermal detonator sailing back the way it’d come. “I’ll be having words with Admiral Konstantine when we return,” he snarled, which Sabine understood as a rough translation for, “I’ll be throttling Admiral Konstantine when we return.”
But ‘when’ seemed to be a bit optimistic. She knew that even with the Rebels’ archaic weaponry and pitiful training, it would only be a matter of time until the two of them were overwhelmed.
Out of the corner of her eye, she spotted an Ishi Tib and Twi’lek setting up a heavy blaster cannon on a tripod — and as amusing as it might’ve been to watch the broody, quippy dikut beside her get smoked like a womp rat, she needed him alive if she had any chance of surviving herself. (Also, as an artist, she couldn’t bear to see a face like that pulverized by a bunch of insurgent rubes.)
Raising her blaster, she fired three shots: the first struck the Ishi Tib in the flank, sending him stumbling into his comrade; the second caught the Twi’lek in the gut, right as he began to unload on their position; and the third took out the leg of the tripod, which collapsed onto its side, spraying those nearby with a short burst of friendly fire.
“You’re welcome!” she barked. With a sharp elbow to his thigh (a very well-muscled thigh, as it turned out), she earned herself an indignant huff, probably the closest the inquisitor ever came to expressing gratitude.

(@plus-minus-contingency walks in) Hello. This is the restaurant. I would like to order one cheeseburger. I would also like to order three garlic bread loaves.
Welcome to the Dumpster Fire. I'm not the waitress, though. If you're ordering something, ask Lupe.

I know some of y'all are horrified that I watch a majority of shows with no sound, but I think if you muted a show every now and then, you'd see the appeal. You're already reading the subtitles. Just push that little button and embrace the silent life.

My School Prince President - Ten Minutes Ago Music from Rodgers & Hammerstein's Cinderella (1997)
My brain attacked me this morning yesterday (uploading this was an odyssey 🙈) with the revelation that the music in the dancing scene gives me similar vibes as this song and I kept wondering what would happen if the two were put together.
Shockingly, this is how I ended up spending the rest of the day listening to the movie soundtrack and editing this into a thing lol The deed is done now, I may finally rest 😌

Let me guess, cassie's dad was Bonnie's handler when he was alive still wasn't he. (Bonnie being alive I mean) I mean Bonnie was his favorite uwu.
Nope! Bonnie had a whole different Handler, and I'm sticking with that 😂 as she was made WAY before we knew about Cassie and all of Ruin. Or at the least before I knew. My ass didn't know about the books until about 2 weeks ago so. And I haven't read them yet so idk what's in them besides gore. But Bonnie's Handler was a middle aged lady who grew up with Fazbear stuff :) didn't mind Bonnie sometimes ate cats-
Fun idea though. I'll probably yeet his ass in as a basic Handler or maintenance if we ever get a canon design for him 🔥 someone who helped Bonnie's Handler out when she wasn't able to do something

So I watched someone else on YouTube react to VELMA (bc I won't waste my HBO Max space) and I'm starting to think the entertainment industry sends an important message with the show...
The message is "If you keep asking for better versions of the source material we WILL make it shittier".
Or, at the risk of sounding completely cynical, "We know you love this source material, but we will make it shittier because riling you up is the best way we can make money than trying anything new or different"

I'm relatively busy at the moment but I'm watching something in my room between all the chaos and y'all.... PLEASE watch this fucking show.
I just finished ep6 and I'm hooked so deep I'm never letting go honestly. the cinematography is gorgeous, the soundtrack is so fitting and well done, the lighting makes me fucking feral in the best way possible, and everyone's acting for the most part is so good ♡♡♡♡ along with a story that's decently well written, this show is dealing with some pretty heavy themes with a really fresh approach and I'm loving it.
JUST PLEASE MAKE SURE TO WATCH THE UNCUT VERSION OR YOU WONT UNDERSTAND A DAMN THING. idk why they have a cut version but it cuts out crucial details that you need to keep up with the show

I don't normally give any writing advice, but now, yay! I do have some..
Do not decide you want to switch from past to present tense when you're already 30k deep into writing a long fic..
It is excessively painful to edit out..
Whatever you do will never seem quite right, but no way am I switching this fucker back again, no matter how great the self doubt becomes..
Highly unlikely you will ever finish writing anything ever again..

Gender & Boys Love: Who Watches BL Dramas in Thailand?
ok i just watched THE MOST FASCINATING LECTURE on the history and transformation of BL in Asia, a+ would recommend checking it out if you’re interested. there were tons of amazing points about queerness and gender and transformative works that i want to shout about but i am not super articulate at the moment and i don’t have the time so! i’m gonna talk about some demographic information that was shared instead!!
Tumblr media
(The above was included in a presentation by Dr. Tom Baudinette, a BL acafan. check him out on twitter, he’s super cool!)
what’s interesting to me here is that yes, as has been historically the stereotypical narrative for BL as a genre, the majority of BL viewers in Thailand are women — but a very significant minority are men! this is also something a lot of us knew anecdotally but it’s really cool to have concrete numbers. surprise! a lot of men, particularly queer men, really like bl dramas! in fact, there might be a higher percentage of men watching BL dramas than men reading fic on AO3!
let me talk about that last bit more. as some of you may or may not know, i myself am a bit of an acafan and have published some data science research about learning and comment culture in fanfiction communities. five years ago (oh god, was it really that long??) i did a fanfiction community survey that included a few basic demographic questions. here’s the gender distribution from that survey:
Tumblr media
Only 4% of the people who responded to the survey were men. That’s... not a lot.
A couple disclaimers: this survey is 5 years old, and just from my anecdotal experiences I think the percentage of nonbinary and genderqueer users has probably increased since then. the transgederification beam really cracked a lot of eggs during the pandemic (myself included).
Also, over 88% of the survey takers used both AO3 *and* tumblr, so this isn’t necessarily a perfect snapshot of all of AO3 so much as the AO3-and-tumblr crowd. When you look at a survey done in 2018 on Reddit, they found that 63% of the survey takers were female and 29% were male, with 8% responding with various other gender options. The AO3-and-Reddit crowd is, understandably, gonna be a little different, but I suspect the AO3-and-tumblr crowd miiiiight’ve outnumbered them in 2017. Who knows.
Aside from the reddit one, pretty much every other survey done on AO3 that I’ve seen puts the percentage of men somewhere between 3% and 7%. If you’re one of those men, hello!! Who knows how many of you there truly are, but I suspect there are probably fewer than the 21% Nielsen Media Group found in Thailand’s BL drama viewership.
now, i know this is kind of comparing apples to oranges, since there’s a lot of differences between the bl community in thailand and the AO3 community. sure, they’re both largely centered around romantic content about men loving men, but there are a lot of cultural differences and nuances et cetera. ALSO, to be clear, i am not saying that having more queer men in a community makes it more or less “acceptable” to create content about queer men. i just think this comparison is interesting because it forces us to reconsider some preconceptions or biases about what kinds of people produce and consume BL or M/M content, and why.
There is a LOT of nuance in this topic that I don’t have time for — if you’re interested, go watch that lecture I linked above. In general, I would just caution people to think critically about the preconceptions we might have about BL fans in east and southeast Asia and avoid moralizing about BL without taking into account the nuanced history of the genre within Asian queer communities. 😊
thanks for reading! theo out 🎤

Hello. I saw your poll and wanted to ask. In your opinion what's the problem with the ending of Plus&Minus? I think in the past I've read that some people didn't like the ending that much, but never really understood why. I mean, it's not a perfect show but I never thought the ending was bad. Just curious.
Hello my dear anon! I’m gonna be real honest and say I don’t fully remember what I disliked about Plus & Minus so this answer might be a disjointed mess while I write it on my phone because it’s literally too hot to turn on my laptop. I do know my issue comes down to one particular scene though. Let’s see if I can find somewhere that lets me screenshot on my phone…alas. I can’t take screenshots so I’m just going to try my best to explain.
There is a scene not too long after Ze Shou and Li Gong get together where they talk about their fears in the relationship and they even go to confront Ze Shou’s dad. Those two had such incredible communication and support of each other that their drama after it made no sense. It belittled the relationship we had before.
And then despite the fact that it was Li Gong that ruined everything, Ze Shou had to do most of the work to get them back together. The show tried to tell us it was equally both of their faults. But I had eyes and ears and I watched it so I know that’s not the case.
The whole ending of the show felt disingenuous to the characters and the story we had. The end of the show gave us drama for drama’s sake and to follow a formula, not because it was something that made sense within the story that was told.
I’m not sure if I’ve done a good job of explaining why. I’d probably have to go back and rewatch it to fully articulate it, but I don’t particularly want to go back and rewatch just to be disappointed again. This is really good meta about the pain and drama that happened by @heretherebedork and the drama would have been fine if it hadn’t been preceded by those two having good communication and Li Gong’s willingness to confront Ze Shou’s dad. It’s about the narrative and the pacing and this show just jumbled it all up at the end.
That said, I did enjoy the show for the most part. It was cute and fun. Loved the side couple. I just wish the ending had matched the rest of the show.
