#pokemon shelter life

I had a horrible day yesterday and I just wanted to say that seeing phanpy made everything better, I feel like I can carry on like before. Thank you for running this blog. 馃悩
i'm glad it helped make your day better! things can get rough for all of us sometimes- i've learned that firsthand working at a shelter where i sometimes see the sweetest, most loving pokemon in the world be treated terribly or put into horrible situations. it's important to take some time to focus on the positives! that's why i love posting pictures of the pokemon i've met in my time here and all the goofy stuff they get up to.

hi, im alex, he/him pronouns please. im from unova, and have completed the gym challenge in kalos, alola and galar. after i finished the gym challenge in galar i decided to move fully to kalos and start a shelter.
my pokemon: Zach: a spike eared pichu i adopted from a friend. he is my third newest pokemon, after Amory and sprite. I got him just before i started the shelter. he loves to cuddle up with me, but get nervous around other people.
Delphi: a basic delphox. my first pokemon, i got him as a fennekin, and he's been my best friend ever since. hes a big softy around smaller pokemon, and loves taking care of them.
Baobab: a basic venusaur, a gift from professor sycamore. got him as a little bulbasaur, and now hes the biggest 'mon on my current team. he helps me with the berry trees we have growing for the shelter.
Amory: a Zubat/Skarmory hybrid that i adopted from @wildmon-rehabilitation. just adopted her.
sprite: an electric variant shroomish. he thinks its fun to come to me for cuddles, shock me, and run. i love him. hatched yesterday
OOC
i am a minor so just be aware of this. please dont send me nsfw or anything like that.

when i was in eighth grade one of our teachers had us do a first-day-of-class icebreaker where we went around the room and said our name and our favorite movie. i rarely saw movies that weren't 'ones we had in the house more suitable for eight-year-olds because i only had younger siblings and if we watched a movie at home it had to be something everybody could enjoy' and i didn't really go TO the movies often . or to friends houses to watch movies. my actual favorite movie at that age was mary poppins with julie andrews, which is a good movie, but was only my favorite because i had such a small reference pool. but the most recent movie i had seen was the first narnia film, so i said that one because i didn't want to be the only eighth-grader whose favorite movie was mary poppins
everybody else in class said their favorite movies were stepbrothers and pineapple express

Working with Pok茅mon but wanting to date my father is an oxymoron. He sees them as tools and the same can be said for people -S
"Pokemon are only tools," he says "I don't care about them," he says as he gets a French-style portrait for his Persian AND hangs it in his office

idk how people can choose not to fight taka to get onto the reshiram route and then refuse to have him accompany you while you're in the desert. it's like kicking an abandoned puppy.

#this is so nice and sweet but i can't help but think id still just be a weird unhappy shut-in#don't even know which pok茅mon id have. because realistically. id worry about taking care of it聽
hey, that鈥檚 valid! i鈥檓 with you honestly, if i was being as realistic as possible, i鈥檇 be the npc that never leaves the house. maybe a bipedal pokemon to help with housework and that鈥檚 able to take care of itself as necessary? i think there鈥檚 a lot of pokemon out there that can be really independent in a human society

Black Sesame: Do you value money, relationships, or power more? If you could only have one of the three, which would you prefer? Do you consider yourself a greedy person?
Relationships, but money is honestly a close second. I don't give a flying fuck about power, however, because stuff like that is just too messy to get involved with in the first place. I would choose relationships, although I still doubt sometimes whether anyone would ever choose me back. Yes, honestly, when it comes to money, because I really like money...

"Draconid legends tell of the Arch Dragonlord who would descend from the heavens to intervene in the eons-old feud between Groudon and Kyogre. But this intervention would result in the complete devastation of Hoenn"
-Draconid Lorekeeper
Rayquaza, the Sky High Pokemon, has descended! It is the third mascot of the third generation of Pokemon games.
Pokemon
Rayquaza spends most of its life in the skies, and will never touch the earth for several millennia at a time. It feeds on water particles and fallen stars in the skies as it travels the world several times a year. It is said the worst storms endured by the Draconid people are caused by Rayquaza, as violent clashes in the sky seem to herald the coming of a hurricane in the Hoenn Region.
Rayquaza is another "final boss" sort of monster, and the battle takes place atop the Sky Pillar, a towering ancient structure in the center of a hurricane caused by Rayquaza's wrath. While Groudon and Kyogre's clash has been ended by the hunters of the League, Rayquaza's wrath remains unsatiable.
Rayquaza manipulates the weather by controlling the flow of the winds, and the weather can go from a bright sunny day to a violent hailstorm during the battle. To mitigate this hunters must prepare hot and cold drinks for field consumption, lest they suffer the effects of adverse weather. Rayquaza can instantly eliminate any hunters blown away by its Hurricane move, so hunters should retreat or take shelter when it executes this move, or they can risk it by trying to knock it down, as Rayquaza can be vulnerable at this time.
Armor
Rayquaza armor mitigates all weather effects, while providing buffs according to which weather is in effect. Sunny day improves attack, Sandstorm improves defense, Rain improves stamina regeneration and Hail mitigates sharpness decrease.
Weapons
Rayquaza weapons deal Dragon damage while grounded, and Flying damage while airborne
Outro聽
This release is a regular one, so patrons will be charged for it. If you like what I do please subscribe or share this on your socials (as soon as this is public). I'd love to continue doing this, but perhaps at one point I want to do a release that is just endemic life pokemon. Like Voltrobs as treasure mimics and Stunfisk as environmental traps.
Next will be Mega Rayquaza, stay tuned. And after that, new polls will be held. Happy Year of the Dragon everyone.

The hard side of Rescue is that sometimes you are too late.
Fellow Rescues will understand this pain but today we were called out to a hoarding situation in Kanto; 323 Magikarp were removed and despite our team's best efforts. only 273 survived the first week. Most of them are now in Re-adoption but 7 of them will be joining our rescue due to disabilities. Those who had lost their lives have been buried and apologized to, We wish we could of saved more but we hope they rest easily.

my favorite pokemon is sylveon... is there anything i should know before adopting one and anything i should be wary of regarding their care?
it differs with other eeveelutions. but in my personal opinion, sylveon is the most difficult one to "adopt." since they only evolve when a trainer has devoted a LOT of attention towards their sylveon, it's almost Unheard Of to find one abandoned or in a shelter, since a trainer would probably find a way to keep their sylveon in their life even if they had to give it up. even then, if you DO find one, it'll probably spend a great period of your time with it loyal to its previous trainer, possibly trying to escape to find them again. it's a huge emotional tax on both you and the sylveon. tl;dr, raise from an eevee instead

Third version of gen 9 where everything is tilted a little more to the side (Pok茅mon Verdant or something like that)
Tumblr media
Arven
In this universe, both of his parents are professors, and are constantly arguing about the direction of their research (if they go for past pokemon or future pok茅mon). They've gotten pretty distracted by this debate, to the point where Arven has been doing literally whatever for a few years and they have yet to notice. (He's more annoyed by his parents than hateful if anything.) He avoids that high stress enviroment as much as possible but it still get to him sometimes so he smokes to take the edge off. He does not know how to smoke. Since Mabosstiff is good and healthy he doesn't really have any objectives that he's putting it all in, but he has heard about the Herba mistica, and deep down he would like to make something exceptional of himself someday, so he can finally get out of the shadow of his parents. He still likes small and cute things.
Juliana
Lived a completely sheltered life from pok茅mon battling and such things up until this day. All she knew about pok茅mon are the ones she'd had to deal with as pests and her mom's skwovet. So thanks to that she's usually getting in trouble by just going up to random wild pok茅mon and asking if she can capture them. Her degree of success is way too high, which includes a Cyclizar that she caught when she heard she could use them to go to places more easely. She's way too nice for her own good, but thanks to that more sheltered life she's more emotionally intelligent that her average peer. small and cute
Penny
Just transferred to the academy from Galar, where she had a terrible experience with being bullied, so she's determined to not let it happen again. In a certain way, it lead to her acting meaner than she usually intends to. She says it's so people don't see her as a weak target, but sometimes she comes off as the bully and she very often regrets it. Yes she still needs glasses, Yes she's still nerd trash. Has a very reluctant crush on "La princesa" of Lima academy, and tries to act like a bitch to ward her (and the feelings) off (it doesn't work)
Nemona
Her parents, in this version, focus on her instead of her sister. So thanks to that she's expected to be the perfect student (and by proxy, heir) even if putting her emotions and social life in jeopardy. This nemona is a lot better at reading people, but a LOT more restrained in her emotions. That includes her bad arm, that she hides behind herself. Kind of disliked by most of the student body, who all derogatorily call her "La princesa", for being a teacher's pet, But secretly she hates that just as much as them. Had a tiny (not) gay panic after a certain delinquent was a bitch to her, which she is scrambling to not let fester because she knows her parents would be MAD

On Disability in Pokemon
In humans, there are myriad ways one can be disabled. There are physical disabilities- Missing limbs, paralysis, overgrowth of some organs, and the like. There are mental disabilities- learning disabilities, inability to regulate one's words, or impaired cognition of others.
And Pokemon, having infinitely more variety than humans, can have infinitely more ways of being disabled, as well. There are the physical- There is a shelter in Kanto which specializes in caring for "tripod" Growlithe, as an example. There are mental- Pokemon can have learning disabilities as well, or an inability to regulate their emotions.
But Pokemon and their special abilities lead to further ways they can be impaired. I have spoken before about Beans, my Zorua who cannot use illusions. I also remember, when I was a child, there was a Ditto who made the news for not being able to transform its face. There are examples such as a Drifloon who cannot fully inflate.
Pokemon and their biology are so complex and so malleable that it can be difficult to pin down what is a disability and what is not. For a time, there was an umbrella term called Quercus' Disease, when a Pokemon could not emit its elemental powers. However, in 1993, Quercus' Disease was officially removed from all the books, and is no longer a diagnosis, due to the term being so broad as to be functionally useless. It made no distinction between Pokemon who could not generate their elemental power, and those who generated and stored but could not emit them. There have been several attempts to fill the hole left by the lack of this diagnosis, but none have passed muster.
Let us use Cyndaquil as an example. Why might a Cyndaquil be unable to emit flames from its back? It might not be generating the proper chemicals to catch fire, or it might not have the spark generation to light the fire. It might also have the burning oils on its back dry out. It might overproduce, and thus the fire would be dangerous even to itself. The oils generated might be in the body, but not make it to the surface of the back. It might simply even just be clogged and clumped up. All of these things would be very different disabilities, with very different treatments. Yet, they all have the same appearance, and so they would all be lumped under a single umbrella term of Quercus' for a long time. And all of this is for one type of disability from one type of Pokemon.
There are so many others. Some Pokemon simply cannot evolve- Their bodies will either never trigger the correct hormonal surge, or the threshold is simply different, or any other number of things. Some Pokemon can experience gigantism or loss of cartilage upon evolution. Some Pokemon will only 'half-' evolve, and those are usually (but not always) left in... very poor quality of life. Sometimes, a Pokemon simply cannot handle its own needs, and... I digress.
Injury can also lead to disability. When a Pokemon is 'paralyzed' in battle, that is not true paralysis- In fact, there are two different things that are both called 'paralysis'. I would personally think they should be referred to as 'stunned'. An Electric attack may stop a Pokemon by causing the muscles to contract irregularly for a bit, or a heavy physical blow may stun by disrupting a Pokemon's balance for a bit.
True paralysis can occur in battles, though, as a result of spinal injuries. Pokemon have a recovery ability far greater than that of humans, so it is possible they can recover from even a broken spine that would otherwise cause permanent paralysis, but... not always.
A puncture to a Pokemon's flame sacs can also become a crippling disability. A cut to Pikachu's electric sacs that goes too deep may cause their electricity to interact with their bloodstream in... unpleasant ways.
And then there are some who simply cannot control their abilities. A Charmeleon who exhales flame whenever it breathes, regardless of its will. Slowpokes who cannot stop causing rain. Munna emitting a full fog of dream mist.
A veterinarian's job involves being able to handle most things for most Pokemon that will come to them. I very, very rarely practiced for anything outside of Unovan Pokemon, but now I am learning much of Johtonian Pokemon as well. But a veterinarian by necessity must be flexible, and able to handle any kind of Pokemon, even those they have never seen before.
