I’m fairly new to fanfiction. I’ve been writing for less than a year, and femslash for only half of that. I write fanfic because I love deconstructing characters. Figuring out what makes them tick, then applying that onto new situations. I strive to make my characters feel real and true to the source, and to make the moments they experience feel true to life. For me, this often means raw, emotional moments (which, now that I think about it, might say something about my life). For those of you who have read my fic, you probably know that more often than not this means smut.

I’m gonna take this moment to insert a disclaimer: Many people don’t want or have sex for all sorts of reasons. That’s totally okay. Many people don’t want to read or write smut for all sorts of reasons. That’s also totally okay. I am in no way trying to say that you have to have, want, or want to write sex. I’m only trying to talk about how I use smut in my own writing.

Sex happens. Many people have sex regularly. Many people have sex for all sorts of reasons and under all sorts of circumstances. Sometimes it’s a whole big affair. Sometimes it’s a quickie on the couch. Sometimes it’s soft and romantic. Sometimes it’s hard and fast. Sometimes it’s with a long-term partner. Sometimes it’s with a complete stranger. Sometimes it’s beautiful and soft lighting and smooth curves. Sometimes it’s sticky and your leg cramps and that wet slapping sound is really not attractive. All of these things happen every day. There are people having all of those types of sex and so many more all right now as you’re reading this.

I often fall into a trap of wanting to write “perfect” moments, especially in femslash. There’s so much hate and sorrow in the world and in LGBT+ media that sometimes I just want to escape into fanfiction to avoid all of those things. While I wholeheartedly support that kind of fanfiction and read quite a bit of it, when I try to write it I always feel like I’m not doing justice to the complexity of those characters. So I write misunderstandings, and I write moments full of complex emotions, and I write smut that involves getting elbowed in the ribs because there’s not enough room in the shower, because I feel like all these less-than-perfect moments make these characters human, and let me (and hopefully some of my readers) connect to them on a basic, weird, “we all mess up sometimes” level. And to me, that’s beautiful.

That's so horrible. I want you to know that I subscribed to ep a long time ago. Since then I got sucked into Ghostbusters and haven't read any DW fanfic in months, until today. I got the email about the new chapter, and finally decided to go read the 10+ chapters I've missed. So, your fic is the only DW fic I've read in seriously about 4 months. I love it so much, and you should be so amazingly proud of it, no matter what the haters say. <3

You would think that basic human decency would be to leave you be about it since by your own words it's a sore subject. There's no reason to go on the attack on a FIC REVIEW. Sheesh

thanks so much for reaching out everyone. i appreciate it a lot.

i ended up deleting their second comment. i’m worried they’re just gonna come back and yell at me some more (they’re hiding behind anon right now like they coward jerk they are so it’d be easy for them to do so). so for now, at least on EP, i have turned off anon comments and enabled comment moderation.

i know this may be an inconvenience to some of my lovely loyal readers so i’m really sorry about that. but i can’t believe someone would come onto my fic - where i’m trying to escape by writing and interacting with you guys purely because i love it, not because i get paid or anything else - and harass me after i expressly said it was a bad day for me. and i just don’t want that to happen again. i hope you’ll understand.

i’m honestly in shock and kind of want to throw up. they don’t know me from eve and i can’t believe the disrespect they showed me. shows more what kind of person they are than the person i am.

but anyway, it’s deleted so let’s just all hope they leave me alone. this story means the world to me and i don’t want to let this jerk ruin that.
