Random BOTW/AOC headcanon:
Each of the Champions has their special powers. Urbosa's lightning, Daruk's shield, Mipha's healing and Revali's wind control. That's all well and good, but what about Link? Shouldn't he get some kind of special power?
He does - it's just more subtle, relatively speaking. Link is supernaturally strong. A four year old doesn't beat grown men at sparring without some kind of crazy advantage. A regular teen can't stop the full weight of Thunderblight Ganon on his singular wrist or parry the fucking ceiling unless there's something else going on.
So there. Link's power is super strength.

Headcanon that Robbie is antisocial.
Despite his overly extroverted demeaner, Robbie doesn't do much talking within the tech labs. He tries to avoid talking to any customers that come in and any of his co-workers unless it directly involves guardians. When he and Purah first became the heads of ancient tech, Robbie made a point to act specifically rude too the newer employees who kept bothering him with questions.

A random discussion on the server about what hobbies the dorks (Purah and Robbie) might have let to the conclusion that they are TTRPG players. Robbie's favorite system is Pathfinder, while Purah is all about Dungeons and Dragons 5th edition. And because these two bicker like it's a sport, I figure these kinds of arguments happen on the regular:
Robbie: How can you say it's too complicated? You can individualize the bonuses on your attacks, damage and skill checks to maximize your character's abilities in every situation! Customization is the entire point of the game!
Purah: I didn't come here to Legends of Advanced Calculus! If I wanted to fight someone using the power of math, I'd hit them with a calculator.
Robbie: All you ever play are fighters, so you would say that. Besides, there's no finesse in the advantage system. Roll two dice and you get what you get? How do you maximize on that? It's got nothing on Sacred Geometry!
Purah: You have to work with what you're given, so it's all about creativity and thinking on your feet. Not to mention I can get through more than one round of combat in a session!

The weak point smash attacks in Age of Calamity are cool enough, but I wish the camera didn't lock the way it does during the animation, because it means we miss seeing details like this:
The Blademasters wave to Kohga after they toss him, which you don't see unless the camera gets stuck at a different angle. Like, that's a fun detail! Why would you hide it where we can't see it?

Good news! I'm slowly becoming a fan of the Metroid series. This started shortly after I was exposed to the idea that Samus and Pikachu are pals ever since she rescued him in Smash Bros Brawl in the Subspace Emissary story. Which I know isn't part of the Metroid lore, obviously, but it did make me appreciate Samus as a character.
She is an ice-cold, unflinching badass in her games (which I need to finish playing still, so no spoilers) and relies on no one but herself. That said, I love the idea that she has a soft spot for this fuzzy yellow critter with the world's worse case of static. She saw he was in trouble, broke him out with no hesitation because it was the right thing to do and now they're inseparable.
And I know that has nothing to do with Metroid proper, but like I said, it makes me appreciate Samus that much more. That's the power of fanfic, baby.

Perhaps a spicy take:
Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity did more to make Hyrule feel like a populated, living world to me than many of the mainline games.
I'm serious. This version of Hyrule feels like it's full of people, and as you play, you really get a sense that you're helping them out. See, to earn things like health bonuses and attack combos, you have to complete these little text-only quests. On every level where you actually fight enemies, you earn materials, and different quests require specific materials for completion. And all these quests have a little blurb about a task that needs to be done that requires the materials you provide. When you complete the quest, there's another blurb talking about how you helped the people out.

Random BOTW headcanon:
Master Kohga faked his death in his fight with Link so he could go back to his nap.
He's not incompetent by any means and is in fact a skilled and powerful warrior. The fight was a sham to get the Thunder Helm out of the hideout so the Gerudo would stop raiding it. His lackeys stole it because it's treasure, but he obviously couldn't just say, "Take it back, you're making it worse around here." After his 'defeat', the rest of the Yiga played along, accusing Link of murder and making their attacks more personal.
In conclusion, Master Kohga is actually very intelligent and despite being the leader of a cult of personality, he watches out for the clan and acts in their best interest at all times.

Got cool stickers? Do you get anxious about trying to decide where to stick them? Do they just live on the sticker sheets forever, gathering shameful dust in your drawer?
THERE IS HOPE! I saw this on Reddit.
What you need are magnetic sheets.

Now, take your stickers:

Random HWAOC headcanon:
You know that glowing blue screw from Terrako?
Tumblr media
That's the specialized core that makes it unique from other Guardians. It allows Terrako to think and act on its own, rather than just following some standard programming. It's made with an extremely rare material that gives Terrako its special abilities.
A Timeshift stone.
Timeshift stones are primarily known for their ability to manipulate time and space, but it's theorized that they have other properties that haven't been discovered. Or, perhaps more accurately, properties that have been lost after the First Great Calamity.

Random HWAOC headcanon:
Robbie is functionally blind without his goggles and can sort of determine people shapes, but can't easily tell them apart, especially since all his collogues have white hair. Purah's red hair streak was a lab accident, but when Robbie mentioned he could tell her apart from the others because of it, she started dyeing it like that on purpose.

Headcanons regarding the physical differences between the Champions, because why not:
- Daruk has trouble fitting through certain doors in the castle, and he’s too big entirely for certain rooms
- Revali’s height is all in his torso, so even though he’s nearly as tall as Urbosa, his feet don’t reach the floor while he’s sitting in a chair
- Neither do Mipha’s. But that’s because she’s short.
- Urbosa is all legs and so she is constantly banging her knees on the undersides of tables
- Revali prefers to use benches to accommodate his tail feathers.
- Daruk also prefers benches because he’s too wide for chairs, but it turns out he’s just too heavy for wooden furniture in general. Now he just sits on a cushion on the floor.

Random HWAOC headcanon:
Daruk and Urbosa have nicknames for the other team members, specifically those they spend the most time with. Daruk uses whatever descriptions he thinks fit best, while Urbosa tends to use some variation of 'little ____'. It's a loose translation of a Gerudo word that means 'young/inexperienced/small person' with the connotation that the person needs guidance or protection. It's very commonly used from a teacher to young students, but after a certain age, it's a term of endearment.
For example:
Link is 'little guy' to Daruk and 'little knight' to Urbosa.
Zelda is 'tiny princess' and 'little bird'.
Impa is 'Froggy' and 'little shadow.'

Random HWAOC Headcanon:
By tradition, all princesses born to the Royal Family are given the first name of Zelda. But they all have unique middle names, sometimes two or more. This is also very helpful for record-keeping, rather than trying to count by generation.
Zelda, daughter of Rhoam Bosphoramus Hyrule, was given the middle name of Robyn, as she was and is her mother's little bird.

Random HWAOC Headcanon:
Robbie and Purah are a queer-platonic couple. The term doesn't exist in Hyrule, so they call each other extra-best friends. Most people don't see how it differs from any other friendships (their close friends can tell), but they are committed to each other and happiest together, and for the most part, people are content to leave them to it.
When they first decided to declare themselves extra-best friends, almost everyone questioned it, asking why they didn't just get married or 'why bother calling yourself something more than friends when you're clearly just friends?' They were patient at first, trying to explain the nature of their relationship and educate people.
That lasted a week before they realized it was more fun to make up answers like, "She knows too much," or "Our telepathy doesn't work if we're too far apart." People no longer know when to take them seriously when they're talking about anything that isn't research. They don't mind a bit, because they have each other, and that's all that matters.
FYI - they're both aromantic and Robbie is asexual, while Purah is grey-ace. Purah, however, is a shameless flirt, while Robbie is clueless and wouldn't know if someone was hitting on him without being explicitly told by three people.

Random Age of Calamity Headcanon:
Teba once overheard Revali singing an old Rito folk song; one whose lyrics had mostly been forgotten by Teba’s time. He asked Revali to sing it again so he could memorize the words and teach them to the Rito in his time.
Revali was a little offended that his people had forgotten his favorite song, so he taught Teba the whole thing from start to finish. They did this with several other songs that had been forgotten, and the two of them bonded over the whole experience.

Random HWAOC headcanon:
Purah is just as bad as Robbie when it comes to remembering to eat regularly. It's harder to tell with her because of all the stimulating herbal teas she drinks, as they keep her awake and full of energy. She also has a bad habit of sometimes drinking stamina elixirs instead of sleeping if she's caught up in a project.
Robbie has come into the lab on some mornings to find her sleeping at her desk from the night before. He's started checking on her before leaving for the night to make sure she leaves, too. Unless she's working on something that catches his interest, in which case, they'll both get caught up for a few hours. This has ended with both of them waking up in her office the next morning, confused and starving. The lab mess hall has learned to start breakfast early, just in case.

Random Age of Calamity headcanon:
No one likes getting scolded by Urbosa, because while she won’t insult you directly, she’ll describe your mistake in such a way that you’ll feel like an idiot for ever thinking at all.
But everyone is terrified of being scolded by Mipha, because she’ll describe her disappointment at your choices and tell you that you let her down, and that will just make you hate yourself.

Random Age of Calamity headcanon:
Link's bravery, tenacity and resilience make him a formidable warrior that rises to every challenge he faces. Off the battlefield, however, those same qualities make him a bit of a reckless dumbass who will do anything anyone dares him to.
The phrase "It's okay, I saw Link do this once" is usually cause for alarm, as it means someone is about to do something reckless.

Random Age of Calamity Headcanon:
Urbosa and Daruk are the most mature in the group, if not the oldest, and refer to Link and Zelda as ‘the kids’ when they aren’t around. When Revali tried to play off that and made fun of Link for being too young, Urbosa called him a brat to see how he liked it.
Spoiler: he did not.
