I’ll be blocking it soon (washing and stretching it before letting it dry) and doing a longer post about my hand-spun hap shawl, but I just finished it tonight and need to show it off. Isn’t it so pretty? It’s also super warm. 5 1/2 weeks since I started it. Can’t wait to block it and see what the finished size is!

Socks! Socks! Socks, socks, socks... (*sing to the tune of LMFAO's Shots*)
As you can see I ran out of yarn *just* at the finish line (because I'm an idiot and just assumed they wouldn't sell sock yarn for less than two socks, but it was a 50g ball and i simply can't read), but decided not to go out and buy more of the grey yarn since it's a) pretty awful quality, b) a weirdly unpleasant shade and c) I didn't want to spend any more money on this pattern. They turned out very nicely from a craft standpoint, I think! I *could* undo the left sock's toe cap and knit that in blue so they match, but I don't think I'm going to. I'm pretty happy with the job I did here, but I don't love how weirdly low the heel sits and how tiny the toe cap is in this pattern - my weird little toes are definitely going to wear holes into the sides of this sock very quickly. Also I personally think the deep stitch chain should run along the middle instead of the bit of garter stitch, because this way the middle stretches weirdly across the foot and makes them look a little weird from above (my feet swell up sometimes and I'm kinda self-conscious about that kind of thing, this probably wouldn't bother most people lol)
anyway, Mum, I get it now, knitting socks is VERY satisfying.

The Swatchening has begun. It's funny that you can visibly see me getting better at knitting cables from the first cable swatch I knit (top left) to the one I just finished this morning (bottom right).
This acrylic yarn isn't the best for really dramatic cables like the top left one (the Nautical Twisted-Rope Cable from "A Second Treasury of Knitting Patterns" by Barbara G. Walker, pg. 181) but looks quite good in the bottom right pattern (Telescope Lattice from the same book, pg. 201).
What's really interesting is the difference in gauge of these swatches. The Nautical Twisted-Rope Cable is 49 stitches but about as wide as the stockinette swatch directly below it which is only 30 stitches wide. The actual gauge for the Nautical Twisted-Rope Cable is about 7 stitches to an inch, the stockinette and double seed stitch cables are 5 stitches to an inch, and the Telescope Lattice is closer to 6 stitches to an inch. Note that these are all unblocked gauges but I don't expect this acrylic yarn to change significantly unless I heat block it which I cannot do right now.
I think I'm going to swatch the main front cable/ribbing together and if that goes well, I'll knit a whole front panel of the cardigan using 6st/inch stitch count. I should also come up with a plan for the sleeves... That's a problem for future me.

So I've never really lived in a neighborhood that's like fully a community that supports each other before? I mean, there's been a neighbor or two that my family has been on like "exchange cookies at the holidays" status with, but not like my current neighbors, who made extra mini cheesecakes to share with us and made mine without the apple pie filling the others had so that I could eat it with my allergies (they are so nice and the mini cheesecake was so good!), who look out for each other and help each other move furniture and stuff?
Anyway all that to say I really enjoy where I live now, and I have no photos to share for this afternoon's crafting update because my neighbor asked me to fix their dog's bed's cover and I removed and added a new zipper for them

Currently (metaphorically) sobbing because I don't get paid for five days and my favorite yarn is currently half-off for Cyber Monday.
I will have $100 to spend on yarn, gamboling free and happy as a cloud through fluffy skeins...five days too late.
Paychecks are cruel and unusual punishment, I want to buy my yarn!!!

I only watched a few episodes of the X-Files until recently so I'm getting to enjoy recognizing all the filming locations from living in the general area but it's like:
Hey Squidward! I recognize the location where they filmed this!

The shawl is done! And blocked! …Or should I call it a blanket? I guess it depends on how you use it.
It took about 43ish ounces of fiber and about 5 1/2 weeks of knitting. It only took a couple time-outs, once when my needle broke, and then once near the end when I had to spin and figure out the edge. It was about 60” diagonal before blocking and about 90” while pinned. Once we took the pins out it shrunk in just a bit to 88.5” diagonal and 63.5” across any one side.
Two of the fibers were spun during tour de fleece last July, two were spun for this project during February, and the rest were all older (some were probably spun in 2010 or 2011). The fibers are all listed on my ravelry page (my name there is workbasket - let me know if you need a link).
My tall husband and daughter were both eyeing the finished shawl, one more strongly than the other, but it’s all mine for now!
I was going to give it a catchy name, but I’m still trying to decide! Any suggestions? Something to do with the split rainbows or the mix of natural and color?

I tried my hand at needle felting at a local library program this summer and finished this bad boy a couple days ago. He's a gift for @astarlingdiscovery!
Excited to add yet another fiber craft to my interests so I can hoard more materials

listen a girl needs to do something other than 152935 single crochet stitches if she wants to make it through the temperature blanket and she has an obscene pile of yarn to work through so she's making a haltertop for herself sth sth two birds one stone

I started crocheting again and just finished rewatching acoc so obviously I'm making peppermint preston but I didn't read the pattern I chose before starting it and didn't have bulky yarn so I doubled up worsted weight instead and now I'm making the most complex pattern I've ever followed and it's like real piglet sized so that's what I'll be doing for the next few days I guess

I used my allotted Autumn Yarn Splurge on some Knitpicks fingering weight for the Stephen West knit along and. It got to my local post office last night at about 5 pm. On a Saturday. My yarn is so close that I can SMELL it but I won't get it until tomorrow. I have plenty of time before to knit my swatch ect but I want my Pretties Now.
This is what I get for buying yarn online instead of practicing the horror of social interaction at the LYS.

Hey y’all! My sister made her person* a fabric sensory toy/fidget toy thing that was pretty much a mini quilt made of minky but instead of batting it had magnets in each little “pouch” formed by the topstitching, and it got me thinking.
I hadn’t given much thought to making like sensory and/or fidget toys, and I’d never considered magnets before. Is that something y’all would be interested in? I don’t know much about either sensory or fidget toys, or how they are different or similar, but I would love to be able to make things that help people
*I have no idea what their relationship name is? Idk if she’s her girlfriend or her fiancée or her wife or SO or what, but just in case she ever sees this post I don’t want to get it wrong, so if my sister sees this: sorry, I did my best lol
