An analysis on Isayama and why Rivamika might become canon/ with official interview links

Partly why Isayama got inspired for attack on titan was his past relationship with getting bullied for being a smaller and skinnier build guy by bigger folks. Hence the titans preying and eating smaller humans.

This is especially seen in Levi. Small guy who is looked down upon several times in the manga for being small. These are the examples I could find, but I remember there being plenty more.

Isayama has stated plenty of times that he doesn’t insert himself as one of the characters, but I still genuinely believe he might have this guilty pleasure of wanting to become this strong and fictional character who resembles himself both in build and the way he acts. Being small, but also humanity’s strongest and defying his real life bullies. Many times, when I watch his interviews, he has a similar behavior to Levi. A very calm and collected  demeanor when speaking.

My dude literally admitted in an old Interview that Mikasa’s design was inspired by a cute girl he saw during his part time job. He even said he felt something when he saw her. Do we see parallels here or what?? Yes, Isayama has a wife now, but let’s look at how he acts when he’s around women. He’s perhaps a bit shy to approach them. Literally. the. same. as Levi. Levi is not as vocal with his love when he likes someone. WIth the billions of stares towards Mikasa and nothing more, like again. DO YOU SEE THE RESEMBLACE? I see you Isayama. 

His Ideal self

All in all, we can high key see that Levi is someone he wants to be in real life in his own mind. Looking weaker, yet being super strong and heroic. In an interview he admitted that he sees himself more as Daz and as we all know, Daz is someone who’s passive and he wouldn’t be someone who is necessarily heroic. And at last, having the girl (or maybe the many beautiful girls in his life) he did not dare to approach when he was younger. It would make sense,  that’s why he wrote Levi and Mikasa to have such an interesting yet subtle bond (more about this later). He wishes he could get those things in real life. He perhaps wished he walked up to that girl during his part time job, translated to his own fictional world: Levi might get Mikasa. 

(let me add that there’s nothing wrong and shameful  about him possibly self inserting himself as Levi, many authors do this and as long as the self insert is not a Mary Sue, which Levi is not!, everything is completely fine) 

How Isayama depicts love in his story/ Why subtlety wins

For my feeling, Isayama is perhaps a shy guy in real life. I feel very similar to him when I write about love or envision it in my own head. He doesn’t like being upfront in his story when it comes to it. 

Subtlety is key for him once again. He doesn’t enjoy hinting at love too directly, and if he does, it’s not the pairing you believe will become canon. Er*mika for example, they are the most obvious and direct ship in the series (no hate  and shame to Er*mika shippers, but this is just my own opinion). In an interview he admitted that Mikasa is more like a mother figure to Eren and chapter 139 shows a one sided love between them. Sasha doesn’t end up with Connie as many believed, rather Niccolo fell in love with her. Jean liked Mikasa for a long time, but he doesn’t get her either, last example are Oruo x Petra and Hannah x Franz (Literally, the first couple shown in the series, died instantly afterwards) 

I’m personally also a very subtle type of person, many times in my own stories, I want the not so obvious pairing to become canon. With these types of ships, you don’t see their love shoved in your face, but it is there, through subtlety. Levi always watching over Mikasa at the side of the panel, their minimum amounts of interactions, but it’s still there. Rivamika is not a crack pairing as many who fail to understand us believe. Their dynamics are SUBTLE and slowly build. It’s a slow burn that will blow us all away in the end perhaps in the last chapter. 

Maybe I’m a clown for writing all this haha, but I believe in Isayama. It would be incredibly odd for him to waste all this potential, because for me everything fits like a perfect puzzle.

It’s true I was there during the fireworks ( as shown above ) they took a drunken selfie as the last memories of 2021.

Thinking about how sad Levi seemed in 139 when Mikasa left him to bury Ereh's head and how Levi seemed so unhappy that Mikasa wasn't with him despite the fact that Levi was surrounded by a ghost orgy of dead comrades just so LeviH*ns, Riv*tras, Er*ris, etc. could pretend their ship is canon.

I remember people trying to convince me that after mikasa leaves him Levi lost feelings for her and whatnot and I was like huh? 😭

I will stand by this quote bc it applies to all of my ult ships 🕯 I will speaking from my opinion in which I, as many readers, believe Levi did in fact love her.

While I do think when Levi was on the ground and crying right after erens rushed death, he was seeing his dead Comrades, remembering what the war has led up to and everything in between and so much emotions built up inside him that caused his tears to fall. I can’t argue with that fact that Levi’s 1st squad & LE meant so much to him and they + other reasons made him cry and it was a given that he was going to cry in the final chapters ( at least to me)

But

Afterwards when we see him with falco & gabi, he doesn’t look happy nor content ( you can try to see him having a happy ending if you want but that was not what his face was giving ! ) I know the aeroplane panel some shippers tried to related to them missing hanji, which is valid, but with all due respect, no ❤️

He clearly wasn’t happy with how the ending with mikasa happened, how they never shared a goodbye instead their story was half written and his last words to her being “got it, mikasa” if I were Levi I would be upset too, but Levi is not the kind of man to give up on someone he loves so much.

For so many years he’s watched mikasa obsess over eren, he even acknowledged her feelings for him and ( as I mentioned like a billion times in my blog) gave her a wake up call, to come back to reality and all of it without ever being selfish or forceful. Clearly being left without the one person he has left to care for most in the entire world, he’s upset and broken. Although, Levi being sad over mikasa leaving again as in following eren to his grave is something we all hoped her not to do but here we r I guess 😭, but Levi was going to meet to her, they had their whole life ahead of them, to learn, to teach, to love and live and to heal. If there’s anyone who wouldn’t give up on mikasa, that person is Levi and it always has been. 139 ending simply showed another universe where things happened differently but Levi & mikasa’s relationship stayed untouched, every panel with Levi only told me he going to see her and they’re going to be together. And one more thing, even if mikasas’ feelings for eren was just as everlasting, 139 doesn’t even give us anything close to the actual mikasa because why would she abandon Levi, who btw she care abt so much knows was injured, to keep erens head after she finally decided to accept her feelings? That was not what 138 mikasa was giving, mikasa doesn’t only care about eren, I refuse to believe that even if her alt dream eren coincidentally looking like Levi meant NOTHING, there would still be a tiny bit of logic , feelings towards Levi within her to care about him more than what we were given. Chapter 139 was just wrong. Period, I will not argue.

As for the other ships you mentioned in the ask, isayama made no couple officially canon. And that is the hard truth that many people don’t accept so each to their own I guess although I will laugh and criticise for others being delusional as I am with their own ships, I don’t think I care about them enough to constantly talk about them ( expect #that ship, you know I will always hate that one 🤨)

Rn I'm delulu over Levi and Eren anti-parallels: Zeke tries to set his brother up with Mikasa but tells Levi he's unpopular with women; Levi saves Ramzi, Eren kills him; Eren wants Mikasa to forget about him, Levi wants her to stay with him. If I'm really pulling it out of my ass, the clown mistaking Levi for a child and giving him candy parallels Mikasa clownery over Eren giving him ice cream.

Wait no anon you have a point tho low key 😭💀 except the last sentence I guess. I will never understand how isayama set up rivamika for perfection and still failed to do anything with the potential.

Eren was thinking abt historia during zekes so called set up and Levi was probably thinking abt mikasa while saying he IS popular with women stop 💀 they’re so embarrassing.

I think the anime will be a mutual kill between the Jaegers and the Ackermans. Levi and Zeke will kill each other and Eren will kill Mikasa after he regenerates his head.

Okay I actually think if aoe was going to happen mikasa would die but also Levi with her, it’s more of an headcabon how I’d want them to make their last appearances in the series but I don’t think??? Levi would die trying to kill zeke or at the same time as him. Because him & mikasa have some important moments near the end and I wouldn’t want those to go to waste ugh But yeah lol, honestly I’d rather isayam be done with their characters in a iconic Ackerman clan way than to have them live in misery and clinging on to their past, away from each other unable to move on. Their lives won’t end with eren and zeke but with each other, that’s what I would hope for at least. 🙏
