The rnm costume departments budget is crazy af. How are they spending a $1,000 each episode for each other their characters. Them buying Maria a fur jacket that $500 just so they can cover it in dirt is ridiculous. Maria had 5 $500 jackets last year. The jewelery they buy is expensive as fuck and so are the shoes. They buy expensive dresses only to alter them to their own design. I put together most of their outfits this season and damn wtf.
Same with Isobel, Bonnie, Maria, Liz and Max and Michael.
That dress in season 3 final Isobel was wearing is $1,669 the belt $84 jacket $139 wtf
Same episode Liz's jacket $259
One episode Liz wears a key necklace $325 same episode Isobel necklace $345
A pair of jeans $325 boots $300 a leather jacket $459
They spent $98 on a simple white tank top. And Michaels nasty dirty white shirt in 4x01 $50 only for them to destroy it 🤦🏻‍♀️
Leather pants $745
A zip up hoodie for $196
Another leather jacket Alex's shockingly is $498
Like WTF no wonder they don't have enough money for good special effects! Like WTF
It goes on and on why are they spending so much money for outfits they wear once an episode.
Like they have piece that are to $300-$500 just for one time small scenes. Wtf
Every now and then one of they guys jackets might be expensive but damn the money they spend on these ladies only to throw them away after. The costume department already said none of the actors/actresses got to take anything home. They should've budgeted down more. Especially based on how your characters actually are. Isobel should be getting the most expensive budget because she actually is rich. Maria shouldn't have 10 $500 fur jackets each season considering she's supposed to be struggling and not that stable with money. Michael shouldn't be getting $50 plain white shirts/ tank tops only for them to get destroyed.
What costume department spends this much money on a low budget, small ass 13 episodes show. Because vampire diaries sure as hell didn't spend this much money every episode, every season.

Though I’m sad to see Malex go, not really that surprised that season four will be RNM last season.
That was written on the wall for a long time.
Getting rid of that woman bought them a little time.
But the show wasn’t the strongest and that was before finding out that the CW was also in trouble themselves.
So it makes sense that they are getting rid of a lot of heavy weight shows. That are probably expensive as well considering special effects.

lmao i haven't watched the show since season 1 i think but i do still follow some rnm blogs because great people and consuming this hsow through osmosis is hilarious but what the fuck is that pinkpurple toy sword in the most recent gifs???? it's so fucking funny the way it's held up to max' face like it's supposed to be threatening and i hope it's really in the show properly and multiple people went 'yes this is the special effects we're going for' instead of a regular sword or whatever :'))
Not you coming for the iconic bisexual sword!!!
Tumblr media
Okay yes it DOES look ridiculous but you don’t understand, man, I also stan.
Truly I can’t at this ask, I feel like a raccoon that just got porch lights switched on at high beam to reveal me in all my trash pile non-glory!!!! 🦝 🗑

Choosing salt and violence today, I see! 😂
5. What are your fanfic pet peeves? Do they have a huge effect on whether or not you decide to read something?
I've got so many pet peeves, omg and yes they absolutely keep me from reading fic. Stylistically - too many epithets will have me closing the tab, just use the character's name, it's fine, I promise. I don't really enjoy first person, because I want to watch a story unfold to someone else, not be in the driver's seat. I prefer limited 3rd person POV, because I want to uncover with the narrator how someone feels, not be told.
RNM-only pet peeves - Feeling like the author forgot Alex's amputation, if I can't picture the movement involved, it throws me out of the fic. I don't like character bashing (like real core characters, not special guest stars) in fic. I've closed tabs where cruelty is used to move the plot along.
ETA: Anything that revolves around earning someone back. No one should crawl over glass to get the love of their life back.
20. What’s your favorite part about the fanfiction writing process?
Being able to write something in a story that I know a friend will love and yell at me about. I start grinning to myself, picturing the DMs that will be headed my way when they get to a particularly angsty part. I love that. I like making people sad, but I also like being to deliver the payoff of an earned happy ending.
Also, if you see something nipple-related in my porn, it's for @litwitlady and if you see Michael's oral fixation in my fic, it's for @haloud. 😂 All references to Michael's terrible childhood exist purely to make @adiwriting cry.
44. Rant about something writing related.
The past-perfect tense is dumb, and I hate it, but also my brain is not good at writing in the present tense, so I'm stuck with it. I'm never adding the right amount of "hads" or I'm adding too many. It's a problem. English grammar is dumb.

Things that Spark Joy-3x03
All the good vibes here, salty vibes are here
+5 damage points for hitting us with The Night We Met right off the bat. -3 for it not being in an Echo/Malex parallel scene because we all been knew that it's a Malex song.
I'm loving the awkward meeting as Liz arrives into town part 2 parallel (now do Malex 🙃)
Rosa continues to drag Max (Deputy Vanilla 🤣), and Liz's feelings for him (though she kinda doesn't have a leg to stand on right now? But we'll see how that storyline goes), and she gets extra bonus points for being on of the only characters (along with half-brother Kyle) for having a brain cell. The way she makes sure to remind Liz that no one person carries the blame for what happened with her and Max just shows how much she is growing and I love that for her.
RNM probably doesn't have the biggest special effects budget but I love that we are getting more alien stuff and cool things like Michael lighting his hand on fire (but also Michael, baby, get you a therapist)
Jones continues to be a bastard, but a really intriguing one! The way he's getting into Isobel's head about her fear that Michael and Max are drifting away from her mirrors how Noah was able to gain control because she was worried about them leaving her then too. And he's already told Michael he healed Nora and now is telling Isobel he was a prisoner with her mom and that's why he knows these things and I am just side-eyeing him so hard.
We're getting more alien stuff with the stones (which per Jones happened when the ship was spewing chemicals as it crashed so...are they just scattered around? Did the military pick up most of them? Does Deep Sky have some? So many questions that I can't wait to find out the answers to!)
Alex continues to deliver LOOKS this season (bless everyone who took notes about last season)
Still side-eyeing Eduardo but good or evil or neutral, I'm enjoying his character and so happy it looks like he's sticking around. I am dyyyyying for Alex to get a supportive father figure.
NM gets fires all the time, so Maria suddenly discovering she's allergic to the smoke made my ears perk up and I wonder if there are some kind of flowers or something in the area that's being burned that's affecting her and maybe her powers? Probably not because it's not bothering the rest of the Pod Squad but I thought it was interesting that they brought it up through her and it making her sick, vs Max as someone who would be hearing about it on the scanners and whose department would probably be involved in coordinating stuff.
We got a lot of Kyle and Liz this episode and we are continuing the tradition of Kyle being 100% done with everyone's crap. We love to see it! Him calling out Liz for only asking for his help because she wanted something from him and later calling her out for sealing Max's DNA and experimenting with alien DNA against Max's wishes, and telling her "Eventually you have to take responsibility for the things you've done to the people you love" was such a great scene. Trevino is just delivering every episode! (Also, great that we're talking about Liz taking responsibility for her actions. Now do other characters 🙃)
Also, him being a stickler with HIPPA and his oaths of ethics as a doctor because he saw what happened when his dad followed his own code in regards to the aliens is just 😭 He mentioned feeling lost and I'm excited to see his journey this season and how it's going to connect to his feelings about his dad that got dropped in season 2.
We also got yet another great scene with Kyle and Max who is doing the same thing Liz is doing and trying to use Kyle as an intermediary in their lovers squabble which, big yikes. No wonder Kyle is so done! And then he has to face finding out that he's been overworking himself and feeling helpless and like he's letting everyone down this whole time, while information/access to a potential cure was in a pod in the desert the whole time. He deserves the longest vacation.
I think it's interesting that Max says it's not safe for Liz to be around him and we see him loosing control over his powers as his heart is failing and I want to know more about why that is!
It's harder to enjoy it now, but Greg offering to egg their dad's statue made me laugh and Alex taking an honorable discharge hopefully means, like him and Greg talked about, that he can stop living in Jesse's shadow and trying to be the "better" version of him.
We stan one (1) angry alien cowboy making it a point to stop hate crimes before they happen because if he's going down, he's gonna take a few racist bastards with him. I mean, he's back to some unhealthy coping mechanisms, but he's not picking fights for no reason he's at least stopping other people from getting hurt. (Sidebar do NOT make me think about how it's because he thinks it doesn't matter if he gets hurt because he can't see his own self-worth 😭)
THAT MALEX SCENE!! (I know I've been pretty 😒 since the episode but it wasn't about the scene itself) Michael just waiting around to give Alex an alien rock as a reason to talk to him and a way to declare his love, plus him willfully giving Alex alien tech (that resonates with his alien biology) because he trusts him, Michael trying to cover up his feelings with swagger and humor/sass, Alex (knowing his a miserable liar) not indulging Michael in his angry spiral (while also reminding him how much they have in common that way/reminding Michael he always has choices in his own actions) but then calling Michael back so they don't both leave the interaction angry which was a nice side-step from the pattern of the last drive-in scene, and then the absolute confidence with which Alex says it's not Michael that died?! *chef's kiss* And no matter how you read the dialogue, it's so great?! Because either Alex would burn the world down before anyone even got close enough to murder Michael so there would be no murder to cover up, OR if Michael got murdered, Alex would do the opposite of covering up the murder and instead would be standing on the rooftops banging pans and shouting that the love of his live was murdered and he's about to make it everyone's problem. Like, we all been knew it wasn't Michael solely based on Alex's reaction, but it was nice to have it confirmed by the man himself.
Vlamis and his face are out here still just doing The Most and I love that for us. I also love that these two clowns are still taking turns just throwing out the most extreme and unbelievably romantic lines like it's just another Monday night while the other one just *blue screens*
Max and Liz each taking a moment to stand in the other's shoes and apologize for their mistakes was great to see, and Liz admitting she is clinging onto the science because she doesn't know who she is without it was a nice callback to her saying she always felt like she had to be the perfect one to balance out everything happening with Rosa. And then her saying she thinks about him all the time couldn't go visit the ocean because he wasn't with her 😭 In the interview with Jeanine and Chris they mentioned the ocean being a theme with Echo (maybe they can pick a word from that to use instead of "cosmic"?), and then Max's hand landing on the handprint spot!! I just had a lot of feelings.
I'm really enjoying the Kyle/Isobel dynamic this season. Kyle deserves someone watching out for him, reminding him to get some rest, and thanking him for everything he's doing.
Max. Babes. Did you ever think that this is why Michael and Isobel didn't tell you Jones was awake and in the cage? But it looks like Liz felt something as he was losing control of his powers which has me thinking about that handprint connection and how much it fades as the handprint does. Could part of the connection still be there for them to tap into? Also now that Jones has escaped (as we all knew he would) I am ready for ALL the mistaken identity shenanigans!
What is Michael building?! We haven't gotten to watch Engineer!Michael in awhile 😍
We all called it that the radio is tied to the Lockhart Machine but it's so rewarding to be right! And I was not prepared to hear "Magoo" or see the alien rock to play into it. And the song playing saying "I don't want to set the world on fire I just want to start a flame in your heart"?! *screams*

is it just me or did vlamis not even seem excited about this episode, he didn't promote it at all on his Instagram like he does with other episodes. I feel like that whole thing was just a dream and did not fit at all into the show.
Yes! I was saying this, but it didn’t feel like RNM. That’s one of the only comforts I have, that it was like one of those specials that really have no effect on other episodes and is, hopefully hopefully hopefully never mentioned or acknowledged.

OG Roswell vs Roswell New Mexico
I just finished rewatching Roswell (concluded/three seasons/streaming on Hulu) circa my youth from late 90s/early 2000s in order to compare it with Roswell New Mexico (new/ongoing/CW), and I have made the following conclusions so far:
Pros-
CW definitely picked the right actors for Max Evans and Liz (formerly Parker) Orcheto. I love Nathan Parsons - he has the soft-spoken, essense of puppy dog look that Jason Behr had in the role- and the chemistry between them is great.
That said, I think the original series did it better. Nothing beats the casting Shiri Appleby and Jason Behr and their goofball mariachi scenes, biology lab shenanigans, and alien 👽 ears. Sidenote about RNM: for as much as I love the unexpected twist of Alex and Michael together in RNM, nothing beats the casting of Majandra Delfino and Brendan Behr either. Their fantastic "at the same time I want to hug you, I want to wrap my hands around your neck" Michael-Maria dynamic is unbreakable, which I think the CW is trying to replicate with Alex but not with the same bantering charm.
RNM definitely comes out swinging with the political commentary/humor, and it makes the show feel of-the-times in the same vein as classic Roswell's "George Bush is an alien" t-shirt and the other references of the era to various 90s pop culture and music artists. The revival doesn't always stick the landing with the laugh, but the effort is there.
So on the subject of humor, levity in the original series is beyond compare. Yes it's corny, yes they pull out all the stops on hokie. But that's also what makes it so endearing. Seeing the main characters' relationships with their parents is also an unfortunate missing piece that RNM, by the mechanics of the "all grown up" plot, misses out on. Mrs. DeLuca, Mr. Evans, and the sheriff, had their fair share of laughs in Roswell and I miss that.
Alien special effects have far improved over the course of nearly 20 years. No more silver paint handprints, woooooohoo.
That said, nobody does 90s music transitions between scenes like Roswell. Nor jump cuts and cutaways.
I like Roswell New Mexico's homages to the OG show (the CrashDown, the waitress uniforms complete with antenna, and the ketchup are still priceless). More than anything, I like the fact that RNM paid attention to where Max's character left off in the original series, a little lost in purpose but wanting to help people, and so they made grown up Max a deputy, and likewise Liz became a scientist. And of course, the throwback mentions of Liz and Max in bio lab, Liz wiping hot sauce from his face...
But why have an homage when you can have the original hot sauce? Or, for that matter, half broken Jeep, fully DoA Jetta, and peach Snapple?
I'm thankful that so far there is no sight of the Tess character in RNM (I say, despite my love of Emilie de Ravin), and that they've seemed to pass along her mind warp power to Isabelle.
Cons-
How dare RNM backseat Maria DeLuca's character?! She was the beating heart and soul of terrestrial Roswell, her friendship with Liz is vital to the show in a way that the revival is not pulling off so far.
Roswell New Mexico has one advantage over Roswell for which I am grateful, and that's the fact that Maria, Max, Liz and crew are grown up and not keeping diaries anymore (thankfully I think TVD used up that plot device and the well has gone dry for the foreseeable future), which leads to fewer face-eating awkward make-out scenes in high school back rooms. Yet somehow the post-teenage angst is still front and center, go figure.
I like Michael Trevino. He's a welcome addition to any ensemble. But the CW plug to the Vampire Diaries/Julie Plec by putting a VD book on the shelf in Rosa's room is so cringy I can't take it. I am trying to black out the fact that Plec is EP on RNM and they make it impossible.
Roswell was kind of episodically self-contained with very few true cliffhangers, whereas Roswell New Mexico seems to stretch out the plot arcs a bit more. I can appreciate that added bit of complexity.
However, RNM also takes itself way too seriously. And I'm not just talking about the balance of drama and humor, for which the revival leans into the dramatic side heavily. I'm talking about the fact that the original Roswell, while it fully embraced the science fiction, was also self-effacing at times, like it was in on the joke that everything was just a little bit ridiculous. It embraced the cornball element. Dare I say it loved the cornball, and I think that's part of the reason why it's so rewatchable and bingeworthy years later. Roswell New Mexico has none of that.
I never understood the need for royal hierarchy conflict, love triangles, babies, and exiled aliens fighting a nearly unseen foe - Kivar - in Roswell (because more often than not the plots double back on themselves and come up half empty), so I'm glad Roswell New Mexico took a more worldly approach to the problems the protagonists are facing.
Sadly Michael Guerin and Isabelle, like Maria DeLuca, fall flat in the new series so far. In part I think it's because the story hasn't done a lot of relationship building between them and Max (it spends so/too much time building the drama and tension around Liz's sister's 'murder' plot that I'm not yet invested in) to highlight the sibling connection that made the first iteration charming. And that's a shame.
Lastly, who's disgusting idea was it to swap hot sauce for acetone polish remover? Never. No. NO.
Overall, I still much prefer the original Roswell vs. the Roswell New Mexico revival. It has a rewatchability and heart that the new series has yet to capture for me. I could give it time at least until I see the episode that Shiri Appleby directs, but I think that the new tone of the show is something else entirely and I'm not the biggest fan.

In The Springtime Of His Voodoo
For @riproswell 2021 day two
A Halloween Hallmark-esque romance
Liz Ortecho is an investigative journalist. A good investigative journalist - she's going to earn a Pulitzer come hell or high water. She specializes in science, which means she doesn't do fluffy 'human interest' pieces, no matter how many clicks they might generate.
But when she blows off an assignment from her editor to continue working on a piece she knows is going to make her name, she's forced to take on an investigation she doesn't want, or face losing her job.
She's sent to the town of Roswell, New Mexico, home of UFO speculation and alien kitsch. But she's not there to dig into the truth behind that legend. Instead she's meant to look into another legend - a supposed curse on the town that has resulted in a spike in the number of twins being born.
The numbers don't lie - the number of twins is statistically strange. But there has to be a scientific explanation for it, not a curse, and so Liz starts digging into local archives with the help of the cute librarian, Max Evans.
Max claims he's not a twin himself, but it's not long before she's seeing two of him around town, and one version of him isn't the sweet man she's come to know. He calls himself Jones, and it isn't long before Liz discovers he apparently died fifty years ago.
Something mysterious is going on in Roswell, and she doesn't think it has anything to with aliens or a curse. She's determined to find the answer. But the more she digs, the more Liz comes to doubt herself. And with both Max and Jones pursuing her romantically, she also begins to doubt their motives and fear she's got herself caught in a msytery she might not be able to walk away from.

People have spent weeks talking about how bad the writing for this show is because it's been focussing on characters they don't like, but they get fed ship content and suddenly they don't care about sloppy errors like Alex apparently going after Taliban leaders in Iraq.
I see. I see.
Keep Maria's name out of your hypocritical mouths.

I missed this the first time around, but when Kyle came to Max's house, he has the radio with him. It looks like it's his medical kitbag but when he puts it down on the floor there's a lingering shot of it. It seems like Kyle wanted to discuss the radio with Max.
I can't tell if it's still there when 'Max' returns in the final scene, but I suspect it is. Which means Jones now has it. It may even have belonged to Jones in the first place - but if it didn't I'm willing to bet it has alien origins.
The season synopsis says the following:
a mysterious radio signal begins broadcasting across Roswell
So my theory is that Jones is going to use that signal to broadcast. I'm not sure yet - some kind of mind control? Or it might be a side effect of him trying to broadcast across the galaxy/universe and he's actually not trying to communicate with anyone on Earth - it's The Oasis he's trying to speak to. The Dictator. Time to come get us.

I thought Jones wasn't Michael's father because he showed no interest in him whatsoever compared to Max, but turns out he's just a deadbeat dad! There's not a paternal bone in that body.

Seeing an uptick in people complaining about Alex/Tyler hate in the main tag so quick reminder:
Maria's tag is a cesspool and the main tag is pretty much out of bounds for her fans even with liberal blocking and filtering.
Meanwhile, I have checked both the Alex and Tyler tags completely unfiltered and am struggling to find anything critical of Alex even scrolling back quite a few days.
This happens all the time. People complain about hate against Alex and never actually manage to point to examples of it. It's a lie. Nevermind that no character is above criticism and every other character on this show seems fair game for it.
The last Tyler criticism is from a few days ago and was rightly criticising him for faking being Native American. No, we're not going to shut up about that. It's been a year and he hasn't apologised for the shit he pulled. We will not stop criticising him no matter how much you all try to rugsweep it. He's a grown man pulling in thousands of dollars for what he did, people drawing attention to that on Tumblr is nothing in comparison.
Meanwhile, the anti Heather Hemmens tag is full of vitriol because she had the audacity to play the other character in a love triangle with your ship.
Fuck you all, you transparent, rancid hypocrites.
