And yes, you could say I'm "afflicted" with albinism. It's part of the reason I cover every practical inch of my skin... I wouldn't want to get sunburned. That, and I also don't like the feel of some textures on it, but that's not related.

I have a different question... unrelated to the eevee's but are albinism and being shiny the same thing or?

Great question! While this isn’t my area of expertise, after I got Mitosis (my shiny Solosis) I actually ended up doing a little bit of research on shiny Pokémon, just to see if they needed any kind of different care.

As it turns out, albinism and being shiny are entirely unrelated phenomena! Albinism stems from a lack of pigment in a Pokémon’s (or human’s!) cells, while being shiny is something that is unique to Pokémon. A few papers that I read theorised that the shiny mutation could potentially lie within the section of a Pokémon’s genetic code that relate to its ability to be converted into data/energy within Pokéballs, which is to say that it’s possible that the shiny mutation is a result of some “corruption” or “error” in a Pokémon’s genetic code!

Unfortunately, due to the enormous length of time and sheer amount of money that it would take to sequence a single Pokémon’s entire genome, the entirety of a shiny Pokémon’s genome has not yet been sequenced, so we can’t say for sure. I do however put some stock in the idea that being shiny is due to an error in the genetic code… much like albinism, actually! It’s just that with albinism, we know for sure where that error originates in the DNA.
