Charlie, "Your yes can just be yes and your no can just be no, and you don't need to have a good reason for either." ⭐️
Hey Charlie! ✨
Exactly! Very very good advice, the person doesn‘t need to know your reasons. They should respect your choices.
The Devil (reversed)
I feel like the advice is tied to something you experienced in the recent past. You went through something that wasn‘t good for you, a toxic relationship or friendship maybe. Fortunately, you‘re in a better place now. Don‘t go back to how things were, take good care of yourself. ❤️❤️❤️

JANES ROE AND THE ELDERS
JANES ROE AND THE ELDERS
“There were a lot of gods. Gods always come in handy, they justify almost anything.”― Margaret Atwood This rare venture into editorial cartoonland and theology is about a contemporary issue: the United States Supreme Court’s leaked draft regarding its potentially overturning of the 1973 Roe v. Wade decision. That opinion stated that under most circumstances obtaining an abortion fell under the…

Blog Post 7: Gendered Gaze
In “Communication as Commodification Video Technology and the Gendered Gaze”, Chong, Molyneaux, and Fournier examine how men and women use BVC technologies as devices for constructing personal gender identities and how socialized gender norms may contribute to discomfort with and consequent   resistance to using video communication tools. They address gaze theory plays a major role in this. The theory “discuss how all viewers, regardless of gender, look at media images with an inherently male gaze, reflecting in turn how media centric society Is constructed by and for the male-dominant culture” (Berger, 1972).  This concept is one that is viewed through however an audience views the people presented. Throughout the article I noticed an ongoing pattern of how this is viewed for feminist’s theorists. These including how men look at women, how women look at themselves, and how other women look at other women.
When I think about viewing media from a ‘male gaze’, I automatically think about the Carl’s Jr. ads that have been thrown in my face throughout my childhood. From analyzing this article, I am now aware that I l have been viewing media and others through a male gaze. It’s sad to even think that, but I believe that as individuals we are constantly trying to fulfill this societal standard of what we want to look like versus embracing what we were born with. Mulvey also discusses the term “scopophillia”. This “denotes the feeling of pleasure and control that viewers gain in the act of looking, can be away for the male psyche to assert its desire for dominance” (Mulvey, 1975). (pg.420) I initially thought of the media example “blurred lines” as the men are getting pleasure from looking at women.
Tumblr media
Within the article, Chong, Molyneaux, and Fournier include a study that “examines the degree to which social gender norms may pervade BVC media and influence users’ perceptions and attitudes toward these technologies” (Chong, Fournier, Molyneaux, 2014). There were a total of 62 participants. All participants had previously used online video conferencing, videos, and video calls.  The participants’ perceptions of gender differences in the ways that men and women engage with technology suggest that gendered attitudes influenced by societal norms continue despite the similar frequency with which men and women use various information communication technologies. “Women who participated in the interviews were more inclined than men to express concerns with personal appearance, privacy, and seeing themselves on camera” (Chong, Fournier, Molyneaux, 2014).

The Male Gaze - Transformers review
I have chosen to look at ‘Transformers’ in relation to Mulvey’s theory of the male gaze. It is evident from the initial scenes of the film that the character Sam can’t keep his eyes off of the female character Mikaela, he has a literal gaze over her as well as assuming Mulvey’s theory of men viewing women purely as sexual objects for their pleasure. The director, Michael Bay’s choice of camera angles further put emphasis on this. He fetishizes her by maintaining a strong focus on her torso, breasts and waist, Sa, undresses her with his eyes as he stays focussed on her body lowering his gaze to her more private areas, but never looking her in the eyes or even looking as far up as her face. The car that she is leant over is a symbol of sexual power, it can be read that the strong exterior of the car and raring engine can represent Sam’s masculine body and sexual desire and Mikaela leaning over it can be seen as inviting sexual behaviour. This ca be seen through Freudian theory also, viewing the car’s engine as phallus, and her leaning over calling it ‘pretty impressive’ reflects how she is there to please the male. Mikaela’s behaviour throughout this scene can be viewed as promiscuous and enticing, she thrusts her hips towards the car suggesting sexual behaviour again. Here we can introduce scopophillia also mentioned by Mulvey, Bay represents Mikaela as being related to sexual activity and Sam is getting pleasure from watching her behave in this way. Mikaela has big lips which can be viewed as vaginal lips and also inferring oral sex. Mikaela is over all see is a huge sex symbol within these scenes.
