#scott and ramona's relationship at the end was just not believable at all because they didn't develop on it for more than 5 minutes?

so i came up with a rough idea for a scott pilgrim inspired litg au where you have an evil ex from each season (minus season 8 since it's coming out now)
Bobby would be the main character, which I didn't want at first because he's the most popular LI but I think his personality seems the most likely to get into this situation (minus the Scott Pilgrim being an incel but that's why it's inspired and not a one to one). Also works since he's in a band.
Obviously MC is his dream girl (Ramona in the movie). Could probably have Noah be his roommate, who is bookish and also a little sick of his problems. Then you have the other band members: Lottie is the drummer (who is also Bobby's ex who's still a little mad at him), idrc who the guitarist is lol, and then I think it'd be funny to have a character who wants to be in the band but they don't let him until the end and that should be Felix.
The stuff about Knives I understand is important to the Scott Pilgrim story but I'm not a huge fan of the "dating a high schooler" part lol. Still, we can have a character that he's dating who's all in and he is not but he doesn't have the heart to break up with her and ends up breaking her heart anyway, and that's probably Hannah.
MC shows up to his concert and then you meet the first evil ex, Dylan. And MC is like oh they dated for a week in middle school and after she broke his heart, he kind of became the asshole we know him as now. (the only reason I'm picking Dylan first is because I think Matthew Patel is one of the more cringe exes and I just simply couldn't do that to anyone else in s4, plus after the exposition he just gets thrown away anyway).
Next, Bobby, Noah, and MC all go visit a local movie set and they see her next ex, Rafi. I don't know why I always picture Rafi with his like weird smouldering face, but that honestly works well with this character, if you've ever seen pictures of Chris Evans in this movie. Because there's a skateboarding aspect in this, I did consider it should be Jamal, but for the bit I already picked a s6 character so it had to be someone else lol.
Anyway, Rafi gets defeated by his arrogance and then Bobby's band is playing in a contest, where he sees his ex and her new band mate/boyfriend, Mason, who is also MC's ex. As for Bobby's ex, it doesn't matter too much but I could see it being Yasmin since she's also a singer, Priya because she canonically is a fan of Mason's band (i think?) and there are routes where she's initially coupled up with Bobby, or Elisa because I think on some s2 routes she goes for Bobby but also I just like her aesthetic compared to this character in the movie. Also I just think either of them look good next to Mason (maybe they don't fit personality wise but they'd look good)
So Mason gets defeated, probably not with the vegan thing (but if we switch Mason for Levi, I could believe that), but something silly other than physically beating him. Next ex is Bonnie, who is clingy as hell. I don't think we should keep the part where Ramona calls it her like college experimentation stuff because that's not a great stereotype, but I kinda like the idea that Bonnie thinks they were in a relationship and had something but MC is like, no, clearly not.
The next exes are the twins, and so I had no other choice than to make this Ozzy and Marshall. I also think MC probably drove them apart and then when they finally compared stories they finally became friends again and are out for vengeance. Anyway, they get defeated.
Last but not least, the ex to rival all exes, the titular character of s5, we have Suresh running this shit. He is so hung up over MC that he set up this whole league. Literally nothing about his character would make me think he'd do this (because this character in Scott Pilgrim is so malicious actually), but he is the "ex in the villa" so he's gotta be the final boss.

I watched it from start to end so this will not be a spoiler free post but.
things I liked:
the music. Of course. The music was genuinely the highlight of this, ESPECIALLY during the final fight because the game music playing was so exciting to hear. I love the game, so. Easy point. I also liked the song Sex Bob-Omb sang and Black Sheep returned even for a moment. I really wish we actually had Envy singing, but I always have YouTube for that.
The fight scenes were fun, especially Gideon and Matthew’s fight. I also really loved the movie-genre changing scenes with Ramona and Roxie. I also adored the “vs” game screens that came up and seeing Scott DIE was such a shock I couldn’t believe it. I also really enjoyed the additions to Matthew’s ability which leads me to…
The focus on the exes. The comic, obviously, didn’t delve that much into them but the anime focuses almost exclusively on them. I actually really liked the additions to them, such as Matthew’s powers or how they grew as people during the epilogue. I loved seeing more flashbacks with them, ESPECIALLY with Roxie and Lucas Lee. Seeing Ramona up and leaving Roxie and showing they had a GENUINELY good relationship before she ran, seeing her care about Lucas Lee before leaving him. It did a lot to establish the exes not just as evil for evil’s sake, but made them feel more like characters. I do have some mixed feelings about Todd, however.
I loved Roxie’s episode and the focus on Ramona realizing she hurt people and needing to own up to it. I love that she understood her hand in her past mistakes and owned up to them. Roxie’s arc was literally one of the top episodes for me. I also love that Roxie wasn’t delegated to being a “sexy phase”. Ramona and Roxie loved each other and Ramona doesn’t deny it. She didn’t have a “sexy phase”, Ramona is bisexual.
They didn’t put Knives and Kim together. They played music but Knives never did more than that. They didn’t even have her kissing Scott in this which is nice. Despite the fact Scott Pilgrim was dating a high schooler. I really loved the friendship that developed between Knives and Stephen AND the ending of her in the band. I really liked that due to the fact I’ve always had some… mixed feeling about Stephen at the end of the comic, LOL. It’s fun seeing Sex Bob-Omb play.
And as for the things I. Didn’t like.
They took SCOTT out of SCOTT PILGRIM. They literally took the MAIN CHARACTER out of his own media! It was a completely different story than what I was expecting which could’ve been fine, but… it really felt as if so much was taken out by the sheer fact Scott wasn’t even in the Scott Pilgrim anime except to set up this weird whodunit mystery AU. Focusing on the side characters should NEVER come at the expense of the main character and they literally took the MAIN CHARACTER out!
The “twist Villain” being Scott. Why. All of Scott’s character growth gets washed down the drain for some paltry attempt at a NegaScott future villain “fight yourself” ending. It’s lame. It’s bad. It takes away every moment of growth Scott has during the comic. You’re really telling me Scott ends up right back where he started at? Really? Some overgrown man child that never learned from his past? Which is literally what he does in the comics? And he’s even worse than when Envy broke up with him? Like… that seems so ridiculous. All the growth Scott goes through was for nothing. Scott literally accepts his flaws, which is HOW he beats NegaScott, and is why he ends up beating Gideon at the end. Having Scott never grow from that, especially THIRTEEN years later is… it really sucks. Scott isn’t a saint, but the best part about Scott is that he’s a normal guy that was able to grow. And the anime took that away from him with their twist ending.
wallace. I adore Wallace so much. He’s my second favorite character, tied with Ramona. I adore him. But I also adore his relationship with Scott. Wallace is his FRIEND and I will say that Wallace is Scott’s best friend. Wallace actually cares about Scott in the comics and the anime made Wallace act like he was some leech that he hated. He couldn’t wait to get Scott out of his life and that! Really sucks! Especially because Wallace wanted to be friends with Scott first!!
I know this was never supposed to be a faithful adaptation and I DID enjoy the anime, but I feel as if, specifically, the villain being Scott was genuinely a bad choice. It undermines Scott and everything that happened in the first comic. It really makes it seem as if Scott didn’t learn or grow. And that sucks because Scott is not a good person - none of them are! But they all grow throughout the course of the comic! And that’s the point!… and then to basically say that didn’t matter, Scott is still an asshole that would rather become a douche than fight for his relationship is… a choice. I liked the anime, just not the villain, LOL

not to complain about two things in one day but the last post got me thinking about how popular todd ingram became in fat gay artist circles after takes off when stephen stills is right there and at least to some degree intended to be a canonically fat gay character (even if the only real indicator of that is that he's drawn a bit broader than most of the guys [which frequently gets forgotten. looking at you volume six and the game. and also was portrayed by an actor that isn't fat in the movie] which i still have some thoughts about.) but i do think the biggest frustration i have with takes off is just how dirty they did stephen stills. this ended up getting kind of long so hi read more sorry for anyone that reads through all this
the whole point of the show was meant to be a "what would happen if scott wasn't there" story and when one of the biggest examples of scott being self-centered and hardly knowing anything about the lives of his friends in the original graphic novels was him not only not learning that stephen stills was gay until he saw him with his boyfriend but also not even knowing that one of his best friends has a boyfriend until a good few months into their relationship. yet in the one scott pilgrim story we got that doesn't center scott and his viewpoint it's genuinely unclear if stills himself even realizes that he's gay by the time the final episode wraps up because almost all of his screentime outside of just general main cast shenanigans is dedicated to his musical gag with knives.
at first when i finished the show i was kind of just hoping that it'd be for the sake of bringing over the "oh yeah i came out last volume but you looked busy so i didn't think to mention it, scott" gag just translated into "oh yeah i came out last season but you looked busy so i didn't think to mention it, ramona." in a stills-centric episode but then they confirmed that they had no plans for a second season and the sequel baiting credits scene with gideon and julie was meant to be a gag at that sort of sequel baiting credits scene and not a genuine one (despite not being written like a gag at all. no julie saying the goose is loose honk honk does not count this is scott pilgrim have you seen half of the dialogue in this series.) and it's just like??? okay so what happened with stephen stills then. i still think the way the novels handled knives' arc is far and away the best anything has but at the very least knives got to have a bit of her own thing coming into her own w/o scott in takes off but stephen stills really was basically just all the musical gag subplot in takes off.
i get that at the end of the day some things need to be cut for time especially in an eight episode tv series of half hours and that ramona really doesn't know stills all that well so it makes sense that he doesn't get to do a lot and he also didn't get a ton of focus or his coming out scene in the movie which is what takes off seems to be pretty heavily based off of so like, again, it makes sense, but god it's frustrating. scott pilgrim has had three major adaptations (four if you include the animation but considering that had a far more narrow scope and didn't even feature stills i'm leaving it out of the discussion) and in all of those stephen stills is kind of just there to be there. at the very least he gets to be a playable character in the game which joseph does get to show up in but even then his ending is one of three that doesn't feature any romance (with the only other two being nega scott who gets a gag ending about taking over the world and wallace, the other out gay man in the main cast) like. i don't really want to say that stephen stills getting shafted so much (pun very much intended) boils down to simple homophobia because like i am very much in the camp that believes that scott pilgrim as a series is just like. stupidly gay incredibly gay like it's still shocking to me how popular it is with cishet white guys gay but it's just like. weird to me how so consistently the characters that get the short end of the stick are him and lisa (who at the very least got to have her moment in the animation.)
it really does feel like this is Just A Stephen Stills Thing and i can't help but wonder why that is, i guess? i don't really think it's an aversion to the character or anything considering o'malley was willing to give him multiple cameos in seconds and he was also happy to own that noda gaku doujin about him and joseph so it's kind of just confusing to me. my only real guess is that maybe it's because he's named after a Real Ass Guy and o'malley wanted to avoid cluttering any online discussion about The Real Ass Guy with discussions surrounding a gay guy from a series that starts with a grown man dating a high schooler but at the same time young neil got to play a pretty big part in the series all things considered who that is also applicable so it's kind of just??? why stephen stills???
also this is just meant as an aside since i know o'malley has a tumblr and occasionally looks through scott pilgrim things on here. so like. if you're reading this, hi! i promise this isn't meant to be a slight towards you or your work like. scott pilgrim is and has been very important to me especially when i was younger and i love seconds i still recommend it to people to this day. i'm just an annoying gay that cares arguably too much about one of your side characters and frequently think about what could have been when it comes to him and his writing.

Scott pilgrim vs the world
I love Scott pilgrim vs the world it’s probably on my top 10 films of all time. The music is great , the characters are great despite the fact if you look at them on a fundamental level they are shitty people like scott being a prime example of that .
However I have a few problems with the film which I want to address/discuss (also as a disclaimer this is just my opinion if you don’t agree with that it is fine and I would love to hear what everyone else thinks)
My first problem with the film is Ramona Flowers (btw the there will be spoilers so if you haven’t seen the film go watch it first and read the comics and then come back )
Romona is the female lead and love interest for the male lead Scott. She seems to fall under the trope that is commonly referred to as the “Manic pixie girl trope” which falls under two definitions.
One of them being a girl who is “different and not like other girls” this girl tends to be defined as “quirky”
Now for that part of the trope Romona fits perfectly into that definition as when describing the character to others who haven’t seen the film or the comics I will tend to describe her as “a collection of hair dye and quirks with roller skates”
But the other part of the definition is “she gives a greater life purpose to the male protagonist” which when it comes to Romona. I can’t agree that she impacts Scott’s life in a positive manner as when Scott gets with her he has to break up with knives (which btw I know that his love towards her is morally ambiguous in the first place as Kim points out along with his sister but one would say that what they had was a good, functioning relationship) along with the fact that the original ending for the film was Scott getting back with knives. Now I feel that this ending is justified as Romona and Scott’s relationship could be viewed as toxic for many reasons such as
•one reason could be that the fact he has to fight for his life to be with her putting him in significant danger and even dying at one point isn’t the most healthy option for a relationship (now I know that the fighting is the main Conflict and drives the plot of the film but one would argue that she got with Scott because she knew it would get Gideons attention and that’s way he has to fight all her exes in the first place)
•another reason could be that when he complains to her that he’s upset that everyone she’s been with wants to kill him . She gets defensive and points out all the people that he’s hurt around him like Kim , knives , envy ect and when he points out that his past doesn’t come to kill him every five minutes she calls him an ass and dumps him to be with Gideon
•also Scott when fighting Gideon learns the power of love on his first attempt at fighting him and the movie tells us that he’s gained this power because as he said he’s fighting him for Romona.
But when he ends up dying and goes back to the chaos theater and apologises to all the people he’s hurt including knives and Kim and earns the power of self respect because he’s no longer fighting for Romona he’s fighting for him self and his self respect which Romona has nothing to do with this development except for the fact that she’s the reason he has to fight Gideon in the first place. And why I believe they should have left the original ending in because when he goes off with Romona it’s promoting a toxic relationship built on violence and literal damage
But if he where to go back with knives not only shows how committed she is to him (showing up to his concerts even long after they break up ) it would show that it really was true love they both had great chemistry and had a lot in common which is a good foundation for a relationship
And that concludes my essay I hope this will spark some discussion let me know what you thought in the notes :)

Scott Pilgrim: An Introspective
Everyone in “Scott Pilgrim” is an asshole and that’s kind of the point. In my opinion, at least. Every character in “Scott Pilgrim” is multi-faceted, has their own motivations and goals, and actually has something to achieve, and yeah, they’re all kinda assholes about what they want.
Expect for Scott, who’s comfortable being a loser while thinking he’s cool. At least until he and Nega-Scott fuse in Volume 6, and it all comes full circle. A lot of people are quick to write Scott off as an “incel”, and frankly, it’s not a fair judge of his character.
Scott Pilgrim is an oblivious idiot who’s afraid to grow up. He was a kid trapped in the body of an adult, because adulting is hard and he never wanted to let go of that childlike naivety. Scott forgot all the bad things he did because he truly believed that’s what he needed to be happy, to forget and run from it. Shrug responsibility and live in the equivalent of a basement with Wallace, one of the few people who could really put up with his bullshit.
Yes, Ramona (for the most part) played the role of Scott’s Manic Pixie Dream Girl, until he realized that it was up to HIM to get his shit together, and the ending of Volume 5 exemplifies that. He apologizes for treating her so shittly and that he really, truly, wants to make their relationship work because he loves her. However, given that Ramona was both: a) under Gideon control with the Glow and b) emotionally volatile as she’d just chopped her hair off again (mirroring her break-up with Gideon), she left and Scott slid into a pretty bad depression, basically going back on his bullshit. However, thanks to the intervening of his friends, mainly Wallace and Kim, Scott gets his shit together and goes to get Ramona back, as Kim puts it: “So fight for her. Earn her back.”
Now, that’s not what ends up happening, as Ramona does actually come back to apologize for being a shitty girlfriend (most of which wasn’t really her fault; emotional warfare is one hell of a drug), and together they face Gideon, which helps Scott to earn the Power of Understanding, as he has an epiphany of what kind of person he actually is, what everyone else is, deep down: an asshole.
But he doesn’t have to stay that way.
Scott got out of his own head and not only became Self-Aware, but understood his epiphany and actually did change for the better. He’d been changing the whole story, and to write him off as just an incel is blatantly unfair on the arc and development he went through. He is a hero, and a good person. Not a paragon of virtue, per se, but a good person with flaws, just like anyone else. He took himself down from his own pedestal, got out of his own head, and got his shit together.
Scott Pilgrim grew up.
Never forget that.

can you think of a more positive way a bard could work
WELL. Cronus and Gamzee not being great aside let just put it here now. I don't think Bards are inherently bad people nor should people generalize Destruction as always something awful. Those are only two examples of how bad of a path bards COULD go down, not really the only path for them to go down entirely.
I think a bard could use their powers to cut off the bad parts of their aspect for their teammates to succeed further in some areas of the session, granted they don't have toxic beliefs or are willing to do that and not just go “their way or the high way” about things. I kinda dip into that topic here. Where I discuss why Scott Pilgrim is a Bard of Blood, and how this was a good thing, at least in the movie. As he decided to give closure to his relationships after realizing what he was doing wrong that contributed to the passive-destruction to his own and cut off the shitty ones of others later - he disconnected Ramona from her evil exes and more importantly, destroyed her relationship with Gideon, it was definitely for the better. Then afterwards, they decide to “renew” relationships, allowing better ones to be created. Kinda like cutting dead ends off when fixing your hair so you're hair is healthier.
The only thing stopping a bard from doing something positive in their session or with their aspect in their lives, is usually the Bards own decisions in important matters and whether they want to stubbornly hold onto something that is actively affecting their chances of something they want to happen, or whether they want to let it go, and actually do something productive with the destructive ability they have over things.
Gamzee decided that instead of becoming a difference in his session by stopping his religious practices of mayhem and murder for Lord English, he would simply follow through with it. And don't get me started on Cronus- who stubbornly believed he was a wizard meant to destroy the big bad, only to quite possibly self-sabotage himself completely
In general. I just think p much all Bards have some very self-destructive habits, tbh and it takes sometimes some massive pushes for them to even realize it. And sometimes they just never do. But the keyword is sometimes. I’d imagine every Bard has some kind of Crisis at one time or another, and they either go further down the bad paths or they realize something is up and decide to something has to change. Obviously, changing yourself doesn't always mean something good will come from it nor does it mean you are doomed to stagnate like someone like Cronus either. These are more general statements.
just because its a commonality, doesnt make it the default
Bards can passively destroy something, and either destroy themselves in the process and give up or they can destroy and allow something new to be created in its place. Whether for the better or for the worst.

So I have a theory. There's discourse all over the place about whether Ramona Flowers in the Scott Pilgrim vs the World movie was intended to be a Manic Pixie Dream Girl. What if she was just intended to look like one? One of the largest points of the film is that we see it all through Scott's perspective. All of the characters are introduced through the lens of Scott. We only get to see them as he sees them. If you watch more closely though, you begin to see the hints of where each character has their own lives outside of Scott's world. As the plot progresses and Scott is forced to face up to his selfish, hurtful ways his perspective shifts ever so slightly and we begin to see more facets to characters that were previously somewhat one dimensional.
I think the same happens with Ramona. Ramona appears to us as an MPDG because that's how Scott sees her. He sees a sardonic, free-spirited alternative girl who if he can win over will magically solve all of his woes and pull his life together. But as he begins to understand that the problem isn't the world around him but rather himself, we start to see more of the troubles Ramona actually faces. The exes aren't just a challenge for Scott to overcome. They're actual, painful emotional baggage that Ramona is still dealing with. Her line at the end of the theatrical cut calling Scott the "nicest guy [she] ever dated" wasn't a compliment. It was a statement of the truth of her life. Scott was a self-concerned asshole who, just like everyone else she ever dated, put her up to an impossible standard and treated her like a prize to be won. He just didn't openly try to manipulate her in doing so.
When watching Ramona, you can clearly see that she is hesitant with Scott. She reacts like someone who has seen this song and dance before, but is humoring it because she just doesn't know what to do anymore. Scott had to learn self-respect so that he could learn to respect others and understand how he was effecting them. I believe that Ramona still very much has a journey of her own to follow, and the alternate ending shows that more firmly. When she leaves, it doesn't seem like she's heartbroken over Scott. It seems more like she's heartbroken over having let herself fall into the same routine she was trying to escape from. See looks like someone who feels hopeless.
I think that Ramona, for as flat as she seems when compared against the wild backdrop of the rest of the cast, may actually be one of the most multidimensional characters in the film.
Add in that even in the world of the film, she's not just an MPDG, she's a warning against placing so much weight on an MPDG. She states her hesitation to date because people tend to obsess over her in relationships. When Knives rebrands herself to try to mimic Ramona's appeal, it's shown to be damaging to herself and her relationships. She feels she looks "good", but in the end changing one's hair doesn't change your personality or give you emotional growth. We never receive solid word on whether or not Ramona even likes Sex Bob-Omb, showing that no one is really even paying attention to what Ramona wants or is interested in during this whole affair. She's never given a proper voice, is just strung along with a guy she feels sorry for and forced to confront a past she was trying to leave behind her. Because we got to see her through Scott's self-serving perspective, she never got the chance to be more than a tool for his growth, which if you look at the story for her exes seems to be the running theme for her.
The alternate ending with them going their separate ways may in fact be the best thing that's happened to her since apparently high school. With her major cadre of obsessive exes disposed of (though sadly never quite in a way that allowed her to do so healthily) and her most recent in Scott emotionally grown enough to realize at least a fraction of what he was doing to those around him, she might finally have a chance to heal and find someone interested in her for more than just their own narrative growth. I'd like to hope so, anyway.
That's my personal hot take. Perhaps she is just a cardboard indie girl with bright hair and an attitude, though. I'd like to think not, but we may never know.

HAPPY 10th BIRTHDAY to one of - or, in my heart, probably *the* best film that was ever made.
I cannot believe it's been ten years already. Words cannot express how much I love this film. And I only love it more with every rewatch, I keep catching new things, on every level: story, directing, easter eggs in sets and costumes, editing, my gosh the editing on this thing. The way it was shot and edited is mindblowing, you could pause it at any one moment and find something to marvel at. Don't get me started on the incredible cast! Chris Evans and Brandon Routh as evil exes, actual superheroes (Captain America/The Human Torch + Superman/The Atom), not to mention Brie Larson who was only 19 at the time (aka Captain Marvel), Ramona Flowers herself, Mary Elizabeth Winstead is Huntress in Birds of Prey. And this has Anna Kendrick and Aubrey Plaza! Together! This film is perfect, you can fight me.
Now it will surprise absolutely no one to know I am way too deep into this and need to address the Ramona/Knives debacle. I have always been team Ramona, but only after the first few watches I really started to wonder why. Because on paper I can understand why people would want Scott to end up with the regular girl who loved him all along rather than a girl he possibly idolises without really knowing her. But, aside from Knives turning into a stalker, he and Ramona are actually so similar under the surface. They both run away from difficult situations, mostly their past relationships which left their lovers scorned, they both tend to avoid decisions and confrontations BUT they both end up fighting for each other, probably being the first person the other really fought for.
That's something I tried to show in this video, how this is not (just) a nerd getting the girl of his dreams. Ramona actually falls for Scott and fights for him too, as best as she can. That is why it is so heartbreaking to see the original ending for the film where he goes back to Knives and she leaves completely alone. Never mind that Knives shouldn't take him back after everything, but Ramona finally finding someone she can be with and having to leave is so, so sad. So glad it didn't end up like that. La La Land is already a favourite film where I can't get over the ending, I needed this win.
So please enjoy this small tribute to this big, great film. Thanks Edgar Wright, love ya.

who likes comPLETEly wild 1940s technicolor noir films?? is that you?? Please in that case watch DESERT FURY, a totally bonkers 1947 melodrama set somewhere in nevada. The Nitrate Diva posted about it on twitter, saying it “must be seen to be believed” and I simply Cannot turn down such a recommendation.
in Desert Fury: the world’s oldest 19 yr old student Paula (Lizabeth Scott, who’s sort of lauren bacall-like) comes home to the desert town of ‘chuckawalla’ where her mother Fritzi (Mary Astor) runs casinos (and i think also brothels??). Meanwhile racketeer EDDIE BENDIX (budget clark gable john hodiak) and his ‘pal’ johnny (wendell corey) blow into town .... and Paula, for some reason, Falls In Luv or something with him. It’s based on a story by Ramona Stewart written for the glossy womens’ magazines when she was still in college. so you KNOW it’s gonna be OTT idfic.
On a formal level the actual best things about this are probably the Cinnamon Tography — glorious technicolor etc, actual location shooting in arizona, luridly bright — and the miklos rozsa score. Also Edith Head’s costumes: Lizabeth Scott gets approximately 9000 high-glam outfit changes; the film is clearly designed as a star vehicle for her.
on an INFORMAL level.... it is an amazingly weird ride.  Eddie turns out to be an old boyfriend of her mother Fritzi. Fritzi’s treatment of her daughter veers towards queasily pseudo-incestuous — calling Paula ‘baby’ all the time (UGH!), insisting Paula calls her by her first name, because ‘mother’ is ‘cold’ and not ‘companionable’. Burt Lancaster is ... also here, hating every second he’s in this film as Paula’s dumbass rodeo-champ-turned-cop love interest. (this was literally the second film he shot, he apparently thought it was total crap but had to do it as he was under contract. his best scenes tbh are with Mary Astor)
Oh and Paula mysteriously resembles Eddie’s DEAD WIFE .... which is why he’s interested in her. And his wife died under Suspicious Circumstances. And people keep slapping each other in the face.
Tumblr media
But also — eddie bendix and his pal johnny ryan .... are Gay. OK no, eddie is bisexual. Any time they’re in a scene together they’re framed together, presented as a duo. sometimes they are shirtless drinking tea together. they have lived and worked together for years and years. How did they meet? according to eddie.... johnny picked him up at 2am in times square:
It was in the automat off Times Square about two o’clock in the morning on a Saturday. I was broke. He had a couple of dollars. We got to talking. He ended up paying for my ham and eggs… I went home with him that night… We were together from then on.
Tumblr media
hello? hello??
ok so there’s a line about how there was a spare room at his mother’s boardinghouse or w/ever but it feels v much thrown in to appease censors.
Paula and Eddie start their affair and there are some great scenes where johnny is initially apparently NOT threatened by eddie having a girlfriend... and then realises what’s up and tries to separate them. the tone is v much — I’m really just paraphrasing his dialogue here — johnny’s been with him for 15 years, he’s outlasted other women, women don’t want to know the Real Eddie, unlike johnny. johnny keeps calling eddie ‘good-looking’. It’s the 1940s and J and E are the Bad Guys ... so no spoilers but it doesn’t end well for them, altho Johnny is the most sympathetic character in this film and you can fight me about it. But for about 75 minutes you get so caught up in trying to figure out how this film has a functional gay couple that you forget the Hays Code exists.
There’s a clip on youtube of Eddie Muller (a critic who specialises in noir) introducing a screening of Desert Fury — he calls it “the gayest movie I have ever seen coming out of Hollywood in the 1940s . . . the relationship between John Hodiak and Wendell Corey in this film is sort of not to be believed”. He also has them at #2 on his list of “Film Noir’s Top 10 (Maybe) Gay Couples” (first is John Dall and Farley Granger in Rope — and they really WERE gay).
anyway there u have it. quarantimes film rec: DESERT FURY, 1947. I watched it on a second-hand spanish-language DVD because there’s no UK release. It's on dvd/bluray in the US. u can probably also find it thru... other channels idk I didn’t look

Thoughts on Season 3 of Fuller House (3B):
Thoughts on 3A here. So just binge-watched all 9 episodes of it today haha and here are my random thoughts:
I LOVE THE GIBBLER FAMILY I LOVE FERNANDO AND KIMMY!!!! I JUST NEEDED MORE AND MORE OF THOSE TWO TOGETHER THROUGHOUT THIS SEASON AND/OR MORE GIBBLER FAMILY MOMENTS IN GENERAL THEY’RE JUST SUCH A WARM, LOVING, AND ADORABLY PERFECT FAMILY WHEN THEY’RE TOGETHER AND SO FUNNY WHEN THEY TRY TO OUTSHINE EVERYONE ELSE I LOVE THEM HAHA
Seriously, Andrea Barber is such a great actress!! Like honestly, she should really win an Emmy for this show I am not kidding haha. She is soooo entertaining!! and wickedly talented at acting!!!!
DJ AND STEVE YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!! FINALLY!!!! I’VE WAITED SO LONGGGGGGGGGGGGGG!!!!! I’m not exactly 100% down on the whole DJ x Steve thing; I’ve said before that I think currently, the actor who plays Matt has more chemistry with DJ, but DJ x Steve was how it was SUPPOSED TO BE and I’m 2000% down for that. Also, idk how, but I think the Steve actor guy (Scott Weinger) somehow got cuter/more likable over the Season 3 break. He just seems to look a bit cuter and has more chemistry with DJ now lol (the kind he should have had at the beginning of Season 1).
The wedding fiasco... didn’t go down as ideally as I would have liked it to... it was the ultimate break-up — a wedding break-up — so it was, in a way, what you would have expected: really sad and harsh-letdowns all-around... idk how it could have turned out better (although there really is no excuse for how Steve and DJ treated their significant others ://). I am glad they didn’t drag out the whole DJ x Steve thing, though. And the Japanese-set episode was really fun!! Really enjoyed seeing all of the different, beautiful sights and experiences!! Wish we had gotten to see more of those :33 (The Japanese episode was definitely a bit shorter than I had expected.) Also loved how the episode was shot.
The appearance of the Japanese boy group Sexy Zone made me think of K-pop, and how much I love it, so I could relate. Sorry, guys, I just had to put that in there :PPP
KIMMY’S FASHION STYLE IS JUST SLAYYYYYYYYYYY!!!!! PROPS TO HER STYLIST IDK HOW THEY DO IT BUT SHE MAKES WACKY AND CRAZY LOOK SO AWESOME AND GOOOOD!!!!!
That alligator scene was top-notch. Great acting/balancing!
Seriously, as much as I love DJ and Steve, I will be so, so, so, so, so sad to see John Brotherton (the guy who plays Matt) go if he no longer gets a larger presence on the show. I have really, really appreciated the character Matt and have really enjoyed watching John’s performance.
Max, thankfully, is getting a little less annoying to handle on-screen (might have to do with his lack of scenes with the dog, which perhaps makes him less juvenile???). Also not exactly into his whole “I’m a smart guy”-type persona, but it’s not done terribly or maybe I’m getting used to it, so I can live with it. Idk, I just know I laughed more at and enjoyed his scenes more than I used to (he’s my least favorite character on the show, and probably still is).
Not really a fan of Max’s relationship with CJ’s girl, either (seems a bit forced), but whatever. If they want to make them that horrendously (I am not exaggerating when I use that word) cute couple, then more power to them.
Kinda sad/disappointed we didn’t get to see Popko for 3B, but he was a jerk, so it’s all okay. Ramona didn’t exactly get any love interests this time around, which is fine. And I really, really hope she doesn’t get with that high school dance-team guy, ugh. The dance-rival thing-y is cute enough, though, and I can see it being pulled off in the future.
I also don’t know why Ramona would skip out on SAFSPA: seemed like it was definitely her dream/goal as portrayed thus far, but okay, maybe it wasn’t. I thought the lesson we got out of that whole parent/kid situation was really good/nice.
Jackson and Rocki are a thing, and I AM LIVING FOR IT!!!!!! I’m just a sucker for nerdy guy/cool girl relationships, tbh :p :p
Still don’t like how Gia (a.k.a. Rocky’s mom) is sometimes cast as the “villain,” but oh well. I guess that discrepancy comes from us wanting post-Full House to be absolutely, 100% “feel-good,” but Gia was inherently written as a “bad” character, so she’s destined to be somewhat of the “bad” girl, no matter how far we get into the Fuller House world. At least she was written as less “evil” this time around.
ADORED Fernando and Tommy; ADORED Fernando, Tommy, and the race-car storyline; and ADORED Fernando and Tommy vs. Jesse and Pamela moment.
Tommy’s cute rn and had some really, really adorable moments this time around (funny enough, I enjoy him with Cosmo more than I do Max + Cosmo). I just really hope he doesn’t end up becoming annoying and unlikable like Michelle was on the original show. I liked Michelle as a baby/younger, but I didn’t enjoy her when she got older/was a toddler.
Honestly, I’ve never been a big fan of the “let’s be cute with babies” on TV-thing, especially on the original show, but I really liked seeing the guys or anyone holding and playing with the babies this time around. For once, I was like, “You know what?? I get it. This totally warms and melts my heart into a million pieces.” Idk, something cute and maybe more maternal?? within me just spoke :’pp
I STILL don’t think Stephanie should have a baby, especially when she has no job, no stable relationship, etc. I also kind of don’t want anymore babies lololol (first Jesse and Becky with Pamela, and of course, there’s already Tommy); there’s already so many people I have to keep up with on this show haha. But if that’s where they want to go, then hey, I’m glad the surrogate’s Kimmy and not someone else.
Needed more Stephanie and Jimmy. Or just Jimmy tbh.
When I saw Vicky, I gasped out loud. Could NOT believe she’s back, even though I already knew she’d be back/had a strong feeling she would be (idk if it was announced).
I DO NOT want the older guys (aka Danny, Jesse, Becky, and Joey) back for the majority of next season. It just seems like whenever the older guys come back it’s more of a static “callback” than actual progression of the episode/overall storyline. I enjoyed a lot of this season because there was less of the older guys; vice versa, I much more enjoyed seeing the older cast members visit this time because there wasn’t so much of them around. So yeah, reaaaalllly hoping we don’t see that much more of the older cast during the next season (if they get a next season), since they all announced they’re going to move back to San Francisco.
On the other hand, I’d really like to see Danny and Vicky finally get a news/television show together and get married already, lol.
I do like it when the older and newer generations are well-integrated, though. The Danny, Jesse, Joey, Steve, and Fernando scene was really funny and one of my favorites. Fuller House is basically just one big fanfiction that isn’t perfectly written, but it’s pretty snappin’ close, and it’s all TRUE AND Y’ALL GET TO CLAIM IT AND CALL IT CANON!! :P :P
Like I said, glad the whole DJ x Steve thing didn’t get dragged out, but a little disappointed it wasn’t exactly, totally resolved... But it’s okay; I can live with it, for the most part. At least they’ve decided they really do love each other, got in a good kiss, and want to try to pursue a real relationship again (hopefully that doesn’t get messed up next season). Excited to see what happens when they’re finally together after the “6 months” are over huehue...
CAN YOU IMAGINE STEVE BEING A DAD AND HELPING JACKSON, MAX, AND THE REST OF THE BOYS OUT?!?!? LIKE MAYBE THEM COMING TO HIM FOR ADVICE ON “BOY/GUY STUFF” AND HIM ANSWERING ALL OF THEIR QUESTIONS AND/OR TRYING HIS BEST TO HELP THEM OH MY WORD IT WOULD BE SO CUTEEEEEEE!!!!
Happy that there wasn’t so much drama over “whether DJ would pick Matt or Steve”; I really didn’t want that plot point to drag on forever :V :V There was a lot more focus on the girls and family-interactions this time around, which I liked, even though it meant less of the adult pairings altogether.
TBH, there weren’t that many substantial main storylines or funny lines during this half of the season, imo (SHOUT OUT to that “ELEPHANT IN THE ROOM” EXCHANGE THOUGH; that scene was hilarious!!). A lot of it focused on everyday family interactions or Stephanie’s “surrogate/trying-to-get-a-baby” storyline (for those who are curious, I’d say the most we got this season was a solid on Stephanie’s storyline, and DJ and Steve confirming they will be getting together, but there really isn’t any further development toward their relationship. Also surprised they didn’t have a Christmas episode??) But tbh, I’m not mad. It was nice to not have to worry about any big romantic or whatever-else-possible drama, and just focus on seeing these characters interact with one another as a family. It was just ordinary, nice, and cheesy fun, and somehow kept me laughing and smiling like an idiot the entire time (which, in a way, is a nice nod to the original show’s purpose). This is really, really just a feel-good show. And you can see that reflected in the cast. You can just tell how comfortable everyone is with one another, and at times, you can see some real tears about to be shed during a couple of heart-felt scenes. It really is just about one big, ordinary, and optimistic family (although sometimes a bit too optimistic lol; I think they give themselves a bit of a dig about that at the end). So yeah, Fuller House is cheesy, ridiculous, lame, or whateverrrrrrrrr you want to call it, but I love it. And I enjoyed watching every episode of the entire second half of this season :’333
Please tell me they bring on Urkel as a special guest for Season 4.
Please tell me they will get a Season 4!!!! I KNOW THE SHOW SUCKS AND IS CHEESY AND LAME, BUT I AM LIVING FOR IT AND LOVING EVERY SECOND OF IT!!!!!
Yup, I think those are my thoughts for now. Might add/edit some more points in later if I can think of anything!! lol :P :P

INFPs make for some of the greatest characters in fiction due to their quirky and whimsical demeanors. They are especially great in romance films considering the fact that INFPs are some of the most romantic individuals out of all the 16 MBTI personality types.
RELATED: Myers-Briggs® Personality Types Of Disney Princesses
They dream of one day finding that special person, and people are captivated by their unusual personas. People with the INFP personality type are warm, charismatic, selfless, and imaginative making them an ideal love interest for most. With that being said, here are some essential characters in romance films who embody INFP characteristics.
Updated on February 5th, 2021 by Kristen Palamara: Romantic comedies continue to be one of the most popular movie genres from classic rom-coms being revisited and watched over and over again to new rom-coms becoming new favorites. The INFP, the mediator, personality type might seem shy at first but once they let people into their world others realize the INFP is creative, loving, and open-minded. INFP personality types are also extremely caring and are typically are looking for to build close relationships with those they care about so they make for fantastic rom-com leads.
15 LARA JEAN - TO ALL THE BOYS I'VE LOVED BEFORE
Tumblr media
Lara Jean is a shy high schooler who has had multiple passionate crushes in her past and has written love letters to each of them although she was too afraid to ever send them. Her sister sends the letters and changes Lara Jean's life forever when her crushes are able to read her innermost feelings about them. Lara Jean is creative with her multiple craft projects and love of baking. It's clear that Lara Jean also cares deeply for her father, sisters, and learns to let Peter into her life when they begin dating.
14 SAM - SLEEPLESS IN SEATTLE
Tumblr media
Sam (Tom Hanks) is a widower with a young son and the movie Sleepless in Seattle begins with his son calling into a radio station to talk about how lonely his dad is after his mom's death. Sam ends up talking to the radio host and passionately describes the relationship he had and how much he truly cared for her and misses her. Hundreds of people listen to the radio broadcast including Annie (Meg Ryan) and several women try to reach out to him to try to date him. It's clear that Sam cares deeply for his son and is a romantic at heart who just wants a relationship with a loving woman.
13 FAITH - ONLY YOU
Tumblr media
Faith (Marisa Tomei) from Only You is extremely similar to the INFP personality type. Faith is completely obsessed with finding her soul mate and has been convinced since her childhood that she's meant to be with a man called Damon Bradley. Faith believes this wholeheartedly and has high expectations for her romantic relationships and needs a particular level of magic and flare. Faith meets a man who claims to have the name Damon Bradley (Robert Downey, Jr.) and she has to reckon with the difference between her expectations and her reality.
12 ALEX -CHANCES ARE
Tumblr media
Alex (Robert Downey Jr.) is inexplicably drawn to Miranda (Mary Stuart Masterson) and her family, specifically her mother Corinne (Cybill Shepherd), as he begins having strong memories of the family that aren't his own. It's an odd and unique rom-com when the audience realizes that Corinne's recently deceased husband was re-incarnated as Alex, but Alex is a passionate, creative, completely empathetic, helpful, and caring character.
11 ELLIE - THE HALF OF IT
Tumblr media
Ellie (Leah Lewis) is a quiet and extremely shy high schooler who is in love with Aster (Alexxis Lemire) but agrees to help Trig (Wolfgang Novogratz), a boy in their class, who is also in love with her, woo her. In a classic Cyrano de Bergerac storyline, Aster falls for Trig even though she has been talking with Ellie the entire time over text messages and letters. Ellie is a complete romantic and deeply cares for Aster while also developing a friendship with Trig.
10 RAMONA - SCOTT PILGRIM VS THE WORLD
Tumblr media
Ramona Flowers from Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World is definitely an INFP character. Many people are drawn in by the INFP's whimsical charm and their mysterious demeanors leave others around them constantly wanting more. This is why Ramona is so sought after in the movie by all of her exes as well as Scott Pilgrim himself because her wild-hearted personality is so alluring to all those around her. Also, INFPs are known for their lack of a desire to conform, which is why Ramona always sports unconventional colored hair. She couldn't care less about fitting in, and people tend to admire this aspect found in her character.
9 ELISA - SHAPE OF WATER
Tumblr media
Elisa from The Shape of Water fully embodies all of the essential character traits of the INFP personality type. Her character is warm, extremely empathetic, and creative. Like most INFPs, she always seems to be daydreaming about a fantasy world that is far from reach. Mundane aspects of her everyday life do not interest her as much as the fantastical elements that she comes across.
She falls in love with an amphibian man because she can identify with the fact that he's an outcast. INFPs tend to fall for people based on their personalities rather than superficial qualities such as appearance or financial status. It is also important to recognize the fact that Elisa befriends a bunch of characters who are labeled as misfits by society because she tends to find them more interesting than those who conform.
8 BELLA - TWILIGHT
Tumblr media
Bella Swan seems to embody the INFP personality because she is someone who appreciates fantasy much more than reality.
RELATED: Twilight: 10 Things About Bella Swan That Make No Sense
Prior to meeting Edward, she was a bookworm who loved reading about imaginary worlds far beyond her own. When she met the Cullens, she was fascinated by them rather than afraid, and she fully accepts them into her universe despite the fact that vampires are deemed as dangerous. She's willing to embark on any crazy adventure that comes her way rather than shying away from it.
7 BELLE - BEAUTY AND THE BEAST
Tumblr media
Princess Belle from Beauty and the Beast is basically the patron saint of fictional INFPs. Like many others described on this list, Belle is much more concerned with fantastical matters as opposed to what is going down in her everyday life. She couldn't care less about what's happening in her little town, yet what she does care about are the books she consumes on a daily basis. INFPs love reading fiction because it's a form of escapism and requires the reader to use their imagination.
6 CHARLIE - PERKS OF BEING A WALLFLOWER
Tumblr media
Charlie is the definition of an INFP character. He is extremely sensitive and he will cry over the little things in life because he is so in touch with his emotions. For example, his character will often burst into tears over a song that touches his heart. Charlie is a wallflower, which means that although he is extremely shy and reserved, he is able to make observations and see things that others cannot. INFPs are experts when it comes to making observations about details that most people would not be able to pick up on.
5 EDWARD SCISSORHANDS - EDWARD SCISSORHANDS
Tumblr media
Johnny Depp is an actor who often plays INFP characters. This is because there is a strong chance that the quirky celeb is an INFP himself. Edward is an outcast and he finds it very difficult to connect with others around him, yet he isn't desperate to fit in with the rest of the crowd.
RELATED: 10 Hidden Details Everyone Missed In Edward Scissorhands
He is comfortable with his status as a misfit, and he cares more about making others happy than blending in with the rest of the crowd. INFPs are sensitive, romantic, and giving, and these are all traits that can be said about Edward Scissorhands. Despite the fact that he has scissors for his hands, he is completely harmless.
4 AMÉLIE - AMÉLIE
Tumblr media
Amélie is a quirky individual who is known for her reserved nature and her giving personality. She cares very deeply about making other people happy, and sometimes she will go so far as to put other people's needs before her own. Since the majority of people with the INFP personality type are wildly empathetic, they can often forget to take care of their own desires because they are too busy trying to help others. They are extremely selfless in that way, and this behavior describes Amélie to a T. She is also incredibly imaginative and creative, which is why she's always fantasizing about dazzling worlds that are far from reach.
3 SABRINA - SABRINA
Tumblr media
Sabrina is a character who wants nothing more than to find love. She is crazy about a man named David, and she is willing to go great lengths in order to win his affection. Yet unfortunately for Sabrina, David refuses to notice her. INFPs have a bad habit of yearning for what they can't have. Like most people with this personality type, they will do just about anything in the name of love. Audrey Hepburn herself is typed as an INFP, so it's no wonder her personality emulates throughout her films.
2 ELIO - CALL ME BY YOUR NAME
Tumblr media
Elio from the romance film Call Me By Your Name is very much an INFP. While he is extremely bookish and intelligent, he leads by his emotions rather than logic and he wears his heart on his sleeve.
RELATED: Netflix Originals: The 10 Most Popular Teen Rom-Coms, Ranked (According To IMDb)
As is the case for all INFP personality types, Elio is incredibly sensitive due to his high levels of emotional intelligence. He loves to read and be alone as well, and his imagination is endless. Timothee Chalamet's character is a total INFP.
1 CELINE - BEFORE SUNRISE
Tumblr media
Celine in Before Sunrise embodies the "mediator" personality type. Her character is a great listener, and she loves to discuss theories and ideas rather than engaging in small talk. There is nothing an INFP hates more than small talk because they have no interest in surface-level conversations. When they are getting to know someone, they want to get to the heart and soul of that other person and they will be unafraid to get to a deeper level with a person that most people would never be willing to reach.

hey, i really liked your meta about kaneki stealing everyone's girls (lol). i liked your point about how kaneki's "emptiness" allows people to project their feelings onto him. touka is one of the only characters to consistently call kaneki out on his shit, but she's in also in love with him and stays unwaveringly at his side. what do you think makes touken work vs. those other relationships? why does touka still love kaneki despite being aware of his "emptiness"?
I could answer this in a long meta, and I will get around to writing a “why Touka and Kaneki are intended as love interests from the beginning and they suit each other so well” meta eventually, but I feel like this answer actually has a simple  and poetic response so I’m going to try to leave it at that.
Basically, Touka and Kaneki both have entirely similiar traumas, they were both left behind by a parent and feel intentionally unchosen. They both have complexes about losing all the people in their lives. They both feel abandoned. They are so similiar, and they let their trauma define them to such an extent that they can mutually understand the other better than most other characters in the series.
Even though there are like a billion characters that foil Kaneki, nobody really alligns with him as complementary as Touka in a way that Touka can understand him.
If anything I would compare it to Scott Pilgrim. At the end of the comic, the characters around Scott basically concluded that all of Scott’s interests, the one he’s best for is Ramona because they “deserve each other.”
Movies with Mikey puts it in a slightly less mean way though “Scott doesn’t want to make a decision in the whole movie (cough antihero).... it’s kind of obvious that Ramona realizes this from the start, but she still just kind of puts up with it which is kind of weird when you think about it. Until you realize that they’re drawn to each other, because they make a lot of the same mistakes. Like having super famous exes. It’s like a mirror, it’s like duality, that’s a word.”
Which pretty heavily in itself mirrors this scene where Touka knows that Kaneki is lying to her but puts up with it, and acts in a way that is able to lead him to his decision instead without having to confront him about it.
Tumblr media
Touka understands Kaneki’s want to not confront things because she herself, also does not want to confront certain things. She knows why Kaneki kept the secret from her, because she herself was keeping a secret of her own.
Tumblr media
It’s like a mirror, it’s like duality... that’s a word.
All of the characters who have unrequited love for Kaneki also put him above them somehow on a pedestal. Mutsuki calls him Sensei, Tsukiyama calls himself a servant or knight of Kaneki, Hinami believes Kaneki and Touka to be on a pedestal of people she wants to be like.
Tumblr media
Kaneki and Touka however, are equals in both strengths and flaws.

That slow burn is the key for me, GOTTA HAVE THOSE BAD FIRST IMPRESSIONS, that’s where all the fun is
Also god....this can of worms....buckle up please this is about to get way too in depth, gonna do this by favorite/most developed to least developed
Self Disclosure - Highschool AU humanstuck that everyone knows about, focused on Dave and Karkat being best friends during Adolescent Hell and falling in love along the way.
Cat’s Cradle - Basically a Twin-Peaks au that is only VERY loosely based off the source (mostly through the basic starting premise) where Dave is an FBI agent going to a small town in the midwest to investigate the murder of Roxy Lalonde and has to deal with an incredibly uncooperative Sheriff, Karkat.
Basically it has all the good shit about Twin Peaks (aka the surreal imagery and dream sequences) and switches out the clumsy soap opera parodying for a mlm love story between two middle aged dudes as the death of a girl leads them to bigger mystery’s concerning the whole town. Also heavier in the horror aspect.
I just love this fucking au so much because FBI agent vs Small Town Sheriff is the perfect cocktail for Davekat and I can’t believe not more people have explored it, plus a chance for me to get fuckey with horror elements AND Davekat, it’s my brand y’all.
My No-Suburb AU,-which admittedly isn’t really about Davekat, but 20 years after the events of the AU Movie Director Dave Strider meets a troll at a dinner event and is immediately accosted with an epic verbal smack down about how much is movie’s fucking suck, which ends with the troll stealing his clip on tie. Later on he finds out from Rose that the troll was THE Karkat Vantas, troll revolutionary that helped in the toppling of the Old Empire and is legit number two to the Empress Feferi and now Troll Ambassador to Earth. Of course they get together after many many more awkward meet ups and it takes Dave like 3 months to get his tie back. Another “boys as middle aged men still fumbling through mutual interest in eachother”
Fae AU - Basically the betas find a lost “kid” in the woods at the start of Summer (they’re like 15) and it does not take long to figure out that he’s definitely not human. A very YA fantasy sort of vibe, all the kids make friends with this weird fucking person looking creature, hiding him in Jade’s house as her Grandpa is off on a business trip. All the kids cept Dave (lmao), which is awkward when all the kids fuck off to vacations with their guardians leaving Dave to take care of the lil monster.
PARKS AND REC AU - listen. listen to me. Karkat as an ornery but way to invested public servant of the Parks Department is perfection. It just is. Leslie secretly has so many Karkat traits, the biggest difference between them is Karkat says mean things but still does all the super thoughtful kind shit Leslie does. Also Dave is here and they love eachother and are dumb middle aged men AGAIN.
Scott Pilgrim AU - because I am basic garbage and am sincerely frustrated that NOBODY has ever done this with Karkat as Ramona even though it’s low key perfect? (well, as perfect as you can get applying Davekat, seeing as Dave and Karkat are just...way better people than Scott or Ramona) anyways I also just really like this AU because Karkat just casually has 7 exes willing to murder over him, WHICH YOU NEVER GET TO SEE IN AUS (people love making Karkat have no exp in dating but he is honestly exactly the person to have a billion awkward af exes because he rushes full speed ahead into every relationship he can and then they all fall apart just as quickly) Also “This is John Egbert, he’s the talent”
also also Dirk Strider looking at Equius “I want to have his gay babies”
there you go y’all....look at this bullshit, this is what I’m thinking about eternally

I always used to use writing as a way to process life. And you can see it in my old stories. There are parts of me in everyone, parts of me that have disappeared over the years, as I grew and became someone else.
Lexington was me in her love of mysteries, in her desire to bring something exciting and mysterious to her boring life.
Cacy was me in the cough that lasted for the whole month I was writing her story, in my completely paranoid fears that I was dying, in my dreams to create a flying broom stick and visit the Amazon rainforest.
Nemmy was me in the way she walked down the street, her confidence, her unending compassion and her desire to solve problems, and under stand people to the point of her own destruction. It was a part of myself I wouldn’t realize was a problem for years.
Lily was me in her boring life, in her wanting to help people who were vastly different than her, to bring something new to her life, and to help people.
Kaycie was me in all the obvious ways, in the whale watching trip, the friends who weren’t always good for her, the obsessive even creepy crush on her old English teacher, and in the fantasy that held her through the novel.
Cippie was me in the way of revenge, in the way of ridiculous plots that would never work, in the fear of a failure she brought upon herself. Cippie was me in her wild ideas and her creativity.
Robbie was less me than the rest, and it started a new phase. But in some ways, he still was. He was me in his fascination with Samanda, and with Kat. In his desire to help Kat, even when she was beyond saving.
Ari was me in her relationship with Katie, her inability to let go, the way she wanted to believe the best in Katie even when she knew it was wrong. She was me in the way she wanted to make Katie better, to be there for her, even at the cost of herself. She was me in the ways she hated gym class, and the way she was afraid when everything moved so fast. She was me with her ADHD, and the way that shaped her life, even though my life was so much different than hers.
Ellie was me more so than the rest. Ellie was me at the most vulnerable part of my life, when I was so afraid of the loss I had just suffered. Ellie was me in her relationship with Neal, in her writing, in her hatred of her creative writing class. Ellie was me in every way she was, except for the parts about her parents. Ellie was me in her depression, and in her grieve, and in her regrets.
Alicia....and Rachel, I don’t know how much of me they were. They were in their impulsiveness, but they belonged more to the fictional characters than anyone else. I don’t know them as well as I should. I wrote their story in 26 days, without a thought before it, or a thought after it. I don’t know their story, and maybe I should.
Alex was me in the way she grew, in the way she couldn’t chose between Terry and Lexi, and the way she wanted to explore before committing herself. She was me in the way she was Dark Blue, so far deep in the ocean that she was as dark as you could get before everything turned to miles and miles of pitch black.
Nick was me in the way he was obsessed with Vada and Warrick, together. In the way he wanted to explore them together, to love them together. Kate was me in her aggression with Eee that was nothing more than love. Eee was me in her optimism. Mouse was me in his desire for everyone to get along. Vada, Vada was me in her regrets, so much worse than my own, but I put real feelings into her.
And it was around then that they stopped being me so much. There were still ways, but more and more, they were other people.
Cat Dunkle, she wasn’t really me. She was me in her optimism. She was me in her curiosity. But her in so many ways, she was more Cat Valentine. She was a persona I was trying to put on. The dark and deep, with a surface of optimism. She wasn’t searching for love, but she found it. Tomie was me in her family, in the way they loved her and cared, and they were nothing but good, and she shut them out anyway, didn’t even tell them when she was dying. That was more me than anything else, although I didn’t realize it until much later.
Jamie Todd was me in her regrets, in her guilt. Our guilt was never the same, because hers was deserved way more than mine ever good me. Jamie Todd was not a good person, and I never believed that I was either. But I was. And she wasn’t. If I was anyone, I was Miles. I was Miles in the way that I believed that everyone was worth saving, was willing to put in the effort to make someone better, even when society had deemed them the worst of the worst. I was Miles in his believe that no one was too far to come back.
I was Keely in her money, in her ability to get what she wanted. I was Keely in her love for Robin and Tommy. But Keely too, she was so much more of Cat Valentine. She was my persona, but with new parts to it. She was the persona, but now with money, because money had become something that mattered.
And Molly. I was Molly in her guilt, I was Molly in her desire to grow. I was Molly in the way she got caught up in Leah. I was Molly in the way that I used my friends and I regret it now. I was Leah in her past, in her future, in her unhealthy behaviors. I was both of them in that. I didn’t want to be them, and I hated their story. But I don’t regret it now.
I was Lucy in so many ways. I was Lucy in her questions. I was Lucy in her habits. I was Lucy in her love, in her guilt, in her regrets. I was Lucy with her family, who support her even when they find out her secret. I was Lucy in my desire to make peace with a past too big to fix. I was Lucy in my realizations that I would have to admit my past to give other people the peace they needed, and that it was a sacrifice I had to make.
I was Wendy in her desire to fly, I was Wendy in the way she wanted to get away. The way she wanted to help. I was Wendy in the way I saw a girl in orange tights, and I wanted to help her, I wanted to make sure that she would be okay. She was. Even though Emma wasn’t. I was Wendy in the way I thought I should be running from my past. I was Wendy in the way I wanted my friends to make peace with each other, to make my Priscilla and Emma stop fighting, before it was too late. I was Wendy in the way I wanted to help, and the way I couldn’t. I thought I was Wendy in the way I made my dreams come true, in the way at the end, I finally got to fly. I didn’t. I missed my chance. But not for another two years.
I was Jacobina in my search for the truth. In the way I wanted answers. I was Krysten Clarice Thorne in the way I wanted to make a statement, to say that we can be bad too. I was Mere-Kait, in the way the character original was. In the ideals I built her up to, that never made their way into the story. I’m Mere-Kait, in the way I let the story down.
I never really meant myself to me McKenzie, but I was. I was McKenzie in the way that I agreed to help, at sacrifice to myself. In the way I left my boyfriend behind. And Lo, I wasn’t Lo. I wasn’t really ever Lo, except in my love of books, and the fact that I always seem to be an exception to the rule.
I was never really Autumn, and I wasn’t meant to be. Instead, I was Bennett. I was a girl who had everything, and a girl who had to find her own family, even though she had a perfectly good one. I wanted to be Autumn, a girl who had talent, a girl who was able to make her own. But when you look at it closely, I’m more of Dana than anyone else, a small character without much role, a girl who didn’t fit in in her group, but was as much a part of it as everyone else. A girl who read while everyone else partied, who was weird, and who was respected.
I was Grace in the same ways I was Ari. I was Grace in the way that I thought of myself as something I wasn’t, in the ways that I was paranoid, and so afraid to move. So afraid of everything. But I wasn’t afraid. I wasn’t really. Not in the same ways Grace was, and not for the same reasons. She had reasons to be afraid, and I had nothing. Grace was the last great tragedy, in the tradition of my ones before. In the tradition of Jamie, and Emma, and Molly and Cat and Tomie, and Samanda.
I was April Scott, in the way that I had it all. I was April Scott in the way that she wanted to help people, in the way that she didn’t always think about the way she wanted to help people. I was April Scott in the way that she used Nate. I was April Scott in the way that she could love more than one. I wasn’t Cody, not really. And I wasn’t Nika either.
And after that, things changed again. Because I was writing a different story, the same story. Over and over again.
I was Sid in his luck. I was always Sid in his luck, and that was more intentional than the rest. It was the basis of his creation, rather than an attempt to process the world around me. I was Sid in his life, in his luck, in his desire to help. I wrote myself into Sid, with care. And I wasn’t Sophie, not at all. Sophie belongs to other people, people I care about a lot.
I was Clare, sometimes. I was Clare in that she has more, and that she has a privileged point of view. A different sort of privilege than Sid has.
But as much as I was Sid, I was never a hero. Not like Sid was.
I wasn’t Jake. I could never be Jake, because Jake was made of a loss I couldn’t claim. And while there was a real Harper, they weren’t my Harper. I don’t know who I was. I felt the grief Jake felt. I was Ramona, in the way I liked to mess with people. But Ramona was full of emptiness and hatred, and revenge, and things she doesn’t even know.
I was Cara, if I was anyone. I wasn’t a hero like Fifi, and I was never a dancer, and I wasn’t anything about her. But I admired her, like Cara did. I was Cara, in that it wasn’t my story, but I was a part of it. But that story is more removed from me than the rest, because Cara didn’t struggle with anything I struggled with. Cara didn’t struggle. Fifi did. Antoinette did.
And then it’s back to Sid. I wasn’t Sophie. I wasn’t Marisa.
I was Sid in the way I needed to get away. To run away from everything I had, and to cut everyone out. To start again. But I didn’t. Sid did. And then Sid, grew past it. Maybe I did too.
It wasn’t until I wrote about Summer that I stopped writing about Sid. I was Summer in the way she craved freedom. In the way she was sure of who she was. I was Bugs in the way that I wasn’t.
And maybe the problem when I got to Skyler was that I was none of them. I wasn’t Sheila, and I never lived the kind of life she did. I never had to run like she did. I was never Lauren, with her big family, and the things she loved. I wasn’t Charlie either. Skyler, Skyler was someone else. I don’t know who I was, and maybe that’s why that story never got finished.
I was Hazael in the way that she didn’t want to grow up. In the way she wanted to help. In the way she felt for Zeph. I was Hazael in her hopes and dreams, but never in her past.
And I’m K-Dance too. I’m K-Dance in the ways he feels for Katie, in the way she’s growing away from a friend she used to be close to. In the secrets she keeps, even though she’s got no reason to. I’m K-Dance in the way she is trying to keep her dedicated to something she loves. I’m K-Dance more than I was any of the more recent characters.
