It allows the soil to store water better in dry times, and to drain better in heavy rains.

I’ve never had much of a green thumb, but I’m doing my best with this succulent. The she used to look more like a palm tree with how extended it was. I’m talking five inches tall. I learned that this means you gotta behead and replant it, as well as find a sunnier spot. I hope I didn’t just kill this baby who’s been with me since 2019, but so far It seems she’s doing really well! It used to be just a stump in the soil, and now I can’t (gently) pull it out due to all the roots it grew. I replanted in mid to late august so that’s pretty good progress! If I did it horribly wrong like I feared she would’ve withered by now.
The leaves are more of an experiment. I heard I could propagate them and in all honesty didn’t do much research on that. Judging by the control leaf (left side, in my fingers) I’m at least doing something right. If they get roots, I have a new pot ready and waiting for them.

Went and bought two large bags of potting soil and one regular size cactus/citrus mix. Used all of it in less than an hour. Replanted the geranium that came from my grandparent's house, finally planted my last rose, got the elephant ear tuber into a pot, and replanted all of the lemon bros (aka the Deke Squad) and the orange/grapefruit hybrid my partner's aunt gave me. Being outside for a bit today felt really good. It was a pleasant distraction.

I also did some sorting out this morning and found my old ikea bear; decided to keep him out and have him one of my old Rogue One shirts since they don't fit me anymore. I think it suits him.

The problem that I have with buying a houseplant from a store is that almost always the soil is very problematic and then I want to repot the plant immediately to give it drainage, but I also know that I shouldn't.
This problem is equally bad when somebody else gives me a cutting (y'all really need to learn to drainage) that they have rooted.
The problem with cuttings that I root and pot myself (I know that they are going into good soil this way, a big plus) is that they are tiny plants and I have to wait for them to become a huge jungle for which I am very impatient.

Hoyas grow pretty slowly so I don't begrudge her doing her thing.... but she's been growing this... stick ever since I got her back in April. There's finally a tiny bud of a leaf (ONE leaf) on it but.... literally this stick has more growth than any other part of the plant.

Poor impulse control caused me to replant this plant In The Wrong Season
(Late october. In fact the very last day of october)
I hope it survives despite this...

Plant mini update!
Tumblr media
The little pepper plants are LOVING this little terrarium-like setup, I have six seedlings now (you can only see four here bc of the angle) which is I think about a 80% germination rate?
Which is pretty good for some kitchen scrap seeds that I didn’t bother to dry or anything before just tossing them in relatively low-quality soil. The leaves are a lot fuller and the stems are a lot thicker than the ones I’m growing ‘properly’ in a pot. Might have to experiment further with conditions like this for my bell peppers?
