Soukyuu no Fafner: The Beyond, i prossimi tre episodi dell’anime usciranno a novembre
I primi tre episodi della nova serie sono stati proiettati in Giappone lo scorso maggio.
Svelato, assieme ad una nuova immagine promozionale, quando usciranno i prossimi tre episodi di “Soukyuu no Fafner: The Beyond”. Le puntate numero 4,5 e 6 del nuovo capitolo della serie fantascientifica, creata nel 2004 dallo studio Xebec, approderanno nei cinema giapponesi l’9 novembre di quest’anno. Per l’occasione è stato diffuso anche uno speciale video per il 15° anniversario del franchise, che riassume gli eventi principali della saga.

La nuova serie sarà composta in tutto da 12 episodi. Takashi Noto (direttore generale della serie tv Soukyuu no Fafner: Exodus e del film Soukyuu no Fafner: Heaven and Earth) sta dirigendo l’opera presso lo studio XEBEC zwei. Tow Ubukata (Mardock Scramble, Psycho-Pass 2) si sta occupando della sceneggiatura e Gou Nakanishi ne è il produttore esecutivo.
Il franchise ha fatto il suo debutto con la serie tv di 25 episodi “Soukyuu no Fafner: Dead Aggressor”, alla quale sono poi seguiti lo special prequel “Soukyuu no Fafner: Right of Left - Single Program” (2005), il film “Soukyuu no Fafner: Dead Aggressor - Heaven and Earth” (2010) e una seconda serie, intitolata “Soukyuu no Fafner: Dead Aggressor - Exodus” (2015), divisa in due stagioni da 13 episodi ciascuna.

ALIIEEEENZZZ!! in anime (A very, very confused rant about a anime and “power relations” tropes between humans and aliens)
So I just finished watching Planet With and it was sort of interesting, it cannot be said that it has the best story, soundtrack or graphic arts (be it animation, character design, backgrounds, etc) but certainly interesting because it got me thinking about how aliens are depicted in anime compared to other media.
Planet With:
If you do not know what anime show I am talking about, Planet With is a science fiction series that is about a alien boy with amnesia and a big cat that eats the eats the boy and then transforms into a neko-mecha… oh yeah and there is also a vegetarian maid.

I will try to make this as spoilers-free as possible but in interest of this post I find it sadly inolvidable to talk about the aliens in this anime… By the way, this is your last spoiler warning: 3, 2, 1…
The main conflict in Planet With has to do with the evolutionary stage of telepathy, when a species begins to become psychically sensitive there two main evolutionary paths that can be taken by the collective and individuals of the species: evolving for love or evolving for power. Nebula, a collective of various and diverse alien species and races have evolved via the path of love but have seen what has happened to those who chose the evolutionary path for power which results in a “dragon”, Nebula tends to be a little bit jumpy about dragons because once upon a time there was a very big galactic dragon that did the minor naughty sin of GENOCIDE OF AN ENTIRE PLANET.
When the humans start evolving into telepaths, Nebula cannot help but notice that the humans are following the evolutionary path of power and it is from here where the interaction between Nebula and Humanity begins. Typically at this stage the story will present the aliens as something completely negative, since most story that talk about opposing ideals and ideologies display the conflict in a reductive manner, one sad being common sense and the other simply bad, mad, and silly (An example of this would be Thanos plan to solve all of the universes problem in the film Avengers Infinity War). Surprisingly Planet With presents the aliens and their meddling in human affairs with quite some nuanced:

1.- The political splintering of a alien polis because of a mutual problem:
Nebula is in essence a pacifist civilization, they believe in diplomacy, collectivism and love (You can see this reflected in their bizzare taste), it makes sense that their “arch enemy” is the dragon, which is a being of pure empowerment of the individual but crazed with his own sense of justice fueled by individualism. Despite all of the positive aspects it has to be said that Nebula has been traumatized by the actions of the Dragon and this results in desperate and extreme conclusions when it comes to a possible new dragon (This coming from the new human telepaths). This results in the sealing faction (being led by a big white dog) which concludes that the humans have to have their evolution sealed (this means trapping the entire human species into a eternal dream state where all of their ambitions and fantasies are satisfied, killing their ambition and wish to grow, connect and evolve), but there are those that believe that being this extreme is aggressive and hypocritical of a civilization that claims to have evolved from love, these are the pacifist faction (who are led by a big blue cat).
2.- The position of each faction of Nebula is clear and honest:
What I love about the political conflict is that it is obvious that the two alien factions are annoyed by their political opponents but they do not use pseudo-over the top-unnecessary-philosophy to justify their position or criticize the other one, in fact the sealing faction is able to convince some humans to help them because of past events that gives them some credibility (the same can be said about the pacifist faction).

3.- The problem of a “intervention of a foreign power” is addressed
Of course, the series those conclude that one of the factions is wrong and the other is right and this would be a “black and white” situation but this anime is self aware of the political context of its story. One of the human telepaths (the most powerful of them) has some extreme political ideas about individualism but does make a good criticism about Nebula when he is fighting against the sealing faction: “You are imposing forcefully your values onto us, how is that not a invasion?” This is a fair criticism, since one must ask as a citizen of a nation that decides to get involved in a different countries conflict “Why do we intervene into others problems? Are we justified in doing so? Does our actions reflect what we claim are our good willed intentions?” We can see these questions revealing certain military interventions in our reality being not only problematic but tragic (You may pick any of the United States wars against terror/evil/danger). But in the anime I would personally say that the intervention of Nebula (in the context of the complete story) is not only necessary but is actually beneficial to the human species because, you know: diversity.
One last thing I wish to clarify about the multiple conflicts and interactions between the Nebula factions and the human species is that it is not a battle of opposing ideologies or the nationalistic supremacy of any of the sides, because in the end of the day all of the characters (except for the dragon) want the best for humanity but simply disagree what is actually the best; I will admit, this is a not only a optimistic but a ideal (even utopian) political situacion, it kinda of gives me a weird Star Treky vibe. And I really appreciate that, since this kind of depiction of the political + social relationship between aliens and humans in a anime is actually quite rare. How rare? Well I am glad you ask because I made a list!
I would argue that most relationships between aliens and humans in media is one of power, be it technological, physical, social, spiritual, or the capacity of one market to commodify almost anything. Unless it is a situation where the humans and aliens are sort of equals in terms of power (and even if this is the case…), typically the relationship will result in one group abusing the other; be it a invading them, eating them, exterminating them, changing them or commodifying the population (be this slavery, food stock or tokenism). This tendencies is related to what aliens usually represent in media: the other, the unknown, the powerful, the grand administrator, the madness, the colonist or the colonized. The list that will be presented below is based on this argument of mine (This list is composed mostly of anime that I have watched, so no this list does not contain all anime that depicts hostile aliens):

Soukyuu no Fafner, Soushi & Tsubaki, "Dream Fragments"
Fafner Week 2017 Day 1 (9/18)

Soushi gets Tsubaki ice cream.

She had asked for ice cream, and while Soushi thought that was a rather simple request, now that they sat in the Alvis cafeteria he felt somehow bothered. Watching Tsubaki happily enjoy the small carton's contents, it occurred to Soushi that she had probably never had ice cream.
"Is it good?" He asked before taking a sip of the can of coffee he had. Had it even been 48 hours since she had left the Coacula? It still felt somehow unreal to have her sitting there across the table, but at the same time, Soushi felt better than he had for years. Perhaps it was because of her; perhaps it was because the last 48 hours had also solved a lot of his issues.
Well, outside the part where he was second-guessing his choice of location. It didn't seem to bother Tsubaki, though, and she just looked at him with a smile. "Really good," she said, picking up more ice cream with her spoon. "Why? You're afraid it isn't?"
Soushi glanced around. "It just somehow feels like the Alvis cafeteria isn't exactly the most ideal place for this. I simply wish the circumstances could be a little more..." He paused to find the right word. "Domestic?"
"No, this is fine," Tsubaki replied with a somehow meaningful look in her eyes. "This is more like you, Soushi, so I'm glad the first time we eat dessert together is here. Though next time you could take me to a cafe."
"If it doesn't ruin the experience, all right," Soushi agreed. "And if that's what you wish for. We can go to a cafe and get proper ice cream. Or why not a parfait. Whatever you want."
"Mmm. It's just one of those things I sometimes dreamed of," Tsubaki said, stopping to eat another bite of her frozen treat. "Simple things," she mused. "Like seeing the blue sky with your own eyes. How the wind feels like when it catches your hair, or what it feels like to dip your toes into the sea." Soushi nodded his head a little, listening to every word. If trying something like that was what Tsubaki wanted, he would make sure it happened. "Or having your big brother take you out for ice cream," Tsubaki added with a giggle.
Whether this location was more like Soushi's style, that decided it. "There's a cafe called Rakuen in town."
"I know," Tsubaki said with a smile.
Of course she knew; Tsubaki knew everything about the island. "Mr. Mizoguchi took over it," Soushi continued, his voice as matter-of-fact as ever. "I believe there's parfaits on the menu. We can go there tomorrow and you can eat all the ice cream you ever want."
Tsubaki gave him another one of those knowing looks, but there was something genuinely happy in her expression, and Soushi decided it was a good plan.

Il nuovo capitolo della saga debutterà in Giappone a maggio.
Diffusi dei video promozionali di “Soukyuu no Fafner: The Beyond”, che concedono un primo assaggio del nuovo capitolo della saga fantascientifica creata nel 2004 dallo studio Xebec, il cui ritorno è fissato in Giappone per il 17 maggio. Svelata una nuova locandina per la serie.
Pubblicata una nuova immagine promozionale di “Soukyuu no Fafner: The Beyond” in vista dell’uscita dei prossimi tre episodi (il 7, 8 e 9) del nuovo capitolo della serie fantascientifica, creata nel 2004 dallo studio Xebec, confermandone il debutto nei cinema giapponesi nel corso del 2020.
Lo staff ha detto che sta monitorando la situazione relativa all’attuale emergenza COVID-19 e comunicherà la data di uscita esatta in un secondo momento

Le puntate numero 4, 5 e 6 saranno proiettate nei cinema giapponesi da novembre!
Diffuso un trailer per i prossimi tre episodi di “Soukyuu no Fafner: The Beyond”, con in sotto fondo la nuova sigla “THE BEYOND” realizzata dal gruppo angela (Knights of Sidonia, K).
Le puntate numero 4, 5 e 6 del nuovo capitolo della serie fantascientifica, creata nel 2004 dallo studio Xebec, approderanno nei cinema giapponesi l’8 novembre di quest’anno.

È stato inoltre rivelato che Takahiro Sakurai (Shougo Makishima in Psycho-Pass) e Nobuhiko Okamoto (katsuki Bakugou in My Hero Academia) si uniranno al cast nei panni di Marespero e Chaos Partland.

Soukyuu no Fafner EXODUS, Soushi/Kazuki, “Winter”
A cold night during the travel.
No warnings, though kinda implied SouKazu.

The winter here was different from Tatsumiyajima. While it did snow sometimes on the island, this was just eternal cold. The little sunlight during the day brought no warmth with it, and their days were reduced to trying to make it forward through the frosty landscape, and the nights, to surviving till the next morning.
Festum swarms here were aggressive, and they had no choice but to fight them. Not that Festum were the biggest issue when the cold seemed to take more of the civilians they were supposed to protect, and Kazuki found himself frustrated. There was so little he could do about the cold; perhaps using his cooking skills to make warm meals out of the limited supplies they had, but even that wasn't always enough.
Tonight was cold, even while wearing all the clothes he could and a blanket and the sleeping bag. He would've rather slept in Mark Sein's cockpit; as weird as it felt, he was starting to prefer it. The area they were in was safe right now though, according to the Esperantos, and Yumiko had instantly ordered them to rest properly for one night.
Not that it helped when he couldn't sleep. He lay awake, staring at the ceiling of the tent, not that he could see much in the darkness. The warmth of summer on Tatsumiyajima seemed like forever ago, and he felt like there had been nothing but this cold for as long as he could remember.
To get through here, to get back to the island, they would need to fight both this cold and the Festum. If there was little he could do about the cold, he needed to just believe in the people they were protecting, and do what he could. If he could still do something with what little life he had left, fighting was the one thing he could do to help everyone. To let at least some of the people here experience the warmth of the island that he barely remembered, it would be worth it.
"You're not sleeping," Soushi's soft whisper stated, and Kazuki snapped out of his thoughts and turned to look at him. "Too cold to sleep?" Soushi continued, then reached out his hand to touch Kazuki's face.
Soushi's hand felt warm, and Kazuki pressed his face against it. "Mmm-hmm," he murmured for a reply. That familiar touch and the warmth of Soushi's skin brought back the memory of home; an evening in Rakuen, with Soushi reaching over the counter to brush his fingers against Kazuki's face, his hand warm from the coffee cup he had been holding. He closed his eyes and smiled, the cold melting away for a moment.
He felt tired all of a sudden, and just relaxed, leaning his face against Soushi's hand. Soushi said nothing more, and Kazuki guessed he was just watching him; he was too tired to open his eyes to check. Soushi also didn't pull his hand away, even as the cold air cooled his skin, turning it pale.
For Kazuki that didn't matter, the warmth was still there, a lingering memory of their home, and with that, he fell asleep.

Soukyuu no Fafner, Maya & Canon, "Summer Afternoon"
On a hot summer day, Maya and Canon end up going for a swim.

Rakuen was empty at this hour in the afternoon, and Maya was cleaning the tables while Kazuki was working in the kitchen. It was very likely that it would get busier again later, so they had to prepare. Mizoguchi had been around earlier, but he had gone out to take a delivery some time ago, and Maya was almost wondering what was taking him so long.
Right then there was a sound from the door, and she turned to look, only to find that it wasn't Mizoguchi. "Ah... welcome! Oh, it's you, Canon. How are you today?"
"Hot," came the reply. Canon held the door for Chocolat then slumped in the nearest chair and took a deep breath. "The heat is infernal today, I swear. I should have stayed in Alvis." The dog curled up by her feet, obviously sharing the sentiment.
"I think it's better that you didn't," Maya told her as she headed towards the kitchen area. "With an attitude like that, you're starting to sound like Minashiro." Kazuki behind the counter snorted, and Maya nodded towards him. "See, even Kazuki agrees."
"That does sound like something Soushi would say," Kazuki replied, and Canon looked away from the two.
Maya snickered to herself while she prepared a drink for Canon, guessing she wasn’t impressed to hear them say that, considering Soushi was assumed to be one of the worst work-a-holics around. Canon had at some point commented that Soushi didn't work that much in her opinion, but not like Maya was a good judge of that considering what she sometimes did herself. Whichever the case, she put together some soda and a few pieces of ice and headed to where Canon was sitting. "Here."
"What's this?" Canon asked as Maya put the drink on the table. "I didn't order anything yet."
"On me! Just drink it, looks like you need it. Oh, and as for you," she said, looking down at the dog by Canon's feet. She went back to the kitchen for a moment to fetch a bowl of water then returned to Canon's table and put it down next to Chocolat, who was very thankful for it and licked her hand as a thanks. "Poor thing, the heat must really bother you."
Canon took a sip from her drink. "I should take her for a swim. Really should have brought a swimsuit, but I came here straight from Alvis and I didn't exactly think of this stuff in the morning."
"But I did," Maya said with a smile. "Since I did bring one! Want to borrow it?"
"Oh, but I couldn't," Canon argued, holding up her hand. "Does it even fit?" She added, slightly embarrassed.
Maya gave her an enthusiastic nod. "Just a generic one, it should do! I would totally go for a swim myself, but looks like I'm stuck here for now. Mr. Mizoguchi went out and is taking his time."
"You two can go," Kazuki interrupted. "Mr. Mizoguchi should be back soon, and nothing major is going to happen for an hour or two anyway. I can handle things here just fine for now."
"But-" Canon protested.
"Say, Toumi," Kazuki continued, ignoring Canon’s resistance. "Don't you have that frilly bikini somewhere upstairs?" Maya's face gained a pink hue at the mention of the garment, but Kazuki didn't obviously notice. "The one you bought last month but then..." He looked thoughtful. "What was the problem with it again? You thought that Dr. Toumi would tell you it's too revealing or something?"
That was as far as he got as Maya glared death at him, and he went quiet and looked confused. Canon looked at Kazuki then at Maya and narrowed her eyes. "What kind of bikini?" She inquired curiously, and Maya turned to look at her.
"That... was not it," she muttered. "It's just the wrong size, that's all! And then I forgot about it anyway. Stop making things up, Kazuki!" Kazuki put on his most innocent smile and returned to his chores, and Maya rolled her eyes. "I swear that was not the case," she told Canon. "Like mom would say anything. My sister might, but you know how she is. Besides, I totally did forget about the whole thing."
"But we could both go for a swim if you have a bikini around," Canon pondered. "Besides, if it's the wrong size for you, it might fit me."
Maya looked at Canon. "It just might," she said, a bit of smirk creeping to her face. "Oh yeah, it indeed should fit you. Come on, let's go upstairs so you can try it on!"
At that point Canon caught onto the fact that there might have been some truth to Kazuki's words. "Wait, maybe if I-" Unfortunately it was too late for her as Maya was already dragging her up by the arm and towards the stairs. She barely had time to put down her half-finished drink and avoid stepping on Chocolat, who ignored them and just enjoyed her water under the table.
Once upstairs, Maya went for a cabinet where they kept some of the employees' things and dug out a bag. "Here it is. Come over here and try it!" She pulled out a white bikini with green decorative frills on the upper rim. "See, brand new, it even has tags on. Should be a good fit, while it was..." She trailed off for a second and smiled. "Slightly too big for me, but knowing your size..."
"You know," Canon said, eyeing the bikini dubiously. "Doesn't it look a little...?"
"Depends on who you ask," Maya said with a shrug. "Yumiko would’ve probably teased me about it, but I can just give it to you and nobody's going to say a thing. You have the perfect body for something like this! Go on, put it on. I want to see how it looks!"
Canon obviously had by now figured out that Maya wasn't letting her talk herself out of this one. "Ah... All right then."
"Then we can go for a swim. I'll just get my swimsuit, it's right over there." Maya went to the side to pick up her bag and pulled out a basic red swimsuit. "There should be some towels here too, let me go get them." She went to another room to look for them, leaving Canon to stare at the bikini. There were indeed towels in a closet in the other room, and Maya picked up a few then returned to Canon and started getting changed.
One swimsuit later, Maya put her clothes minus underwear back on and turned to face Canon, who was also near done getting changed. "Ready yet? Need help?"
"These straps need adjusting," Canon complained. "They're too tight."
"Let me see." Maya circled around to her back and loosened one strap a little. She moved her hand down over Canon's shoulder to her breast and pulled the bikini piece to the side a little to position it better. "This good?" Canon mumbled something under her breath, and she took that as a yes and did the same with the other side. "The tag is still back here," she then pointed out and worked for a moment to remove it. "There! Well, how is it?"
There was no reply at first, then Canon cleared her throat. "It is a little on the revealing side, eh?" She asked, turning around. "What were you thinking when you bought this? I didn't think you were the type to wear something like this."
"I wonder." Maya's eyes scanned Canon up and down, and she grinned. "But it's yours now, and it seriously fits you so perfectly that I might just as well have been thinking about you when I decided to get it." Canon went red on her face at the comment, but Maya didn't care. The bikini looked marvelous on Canon, even though Maya had to admit it was rather on the sexy side, not that she minded now that Canon was wearing it.
A moment of silence later Canon decided it was enough staring, and she pulled her shorts and shirt back on. "Well, let's go for that swim then, eh?" She said in a determined tone of voice. She headed for the stairs, and Maya picked up the towels and her bag and followed.
"We're going!" she called to Kazuki, who was cleaning something in the kitchen. She quickly put on the shoes she had left at the foot of the stairs earlier. "I'll be back as soon as I can."
"I told you it's fine," Kazuki replied. "Enjoy yourselves!"
Canon muttered something as well, walked over to the table where she had been sitting earlier and finished her drink in one go, then took Chocolat with her and escaped outside.
"Did I remember to take any sunscreen?" Maya wondered as she made her way outside as well and stopped. "Whoa, it sure is hot here," she commented to Canon. "So where do you want to go? We can go all the way to the seashore if you want, but..."
"Anywhere is fine. There's a beach right there, eh?" Canon looked towards the sea. "The seashore is so much nicer, but I don't think I want to walk all over there right now."
Since Maya had to agree with that, she nodded and headed down the road. Chocolat was jumping around the two of them, clearly sensing that something good was happening, though she was quick to stay in the shade once they were on the beach. Maya put her bag down near the dog and went through her things. "Ah, here it is," she claimed victoriously. "It's waterproof, too. Come here, Canon! Better not get ourselves burned."
"We're not exactly sunbathing here are we," Canon said, but she walked over anyway and kicked off her shoes. Maybe they weren't planning on lying around on the beach, but it was obviously better not to risk it. "But fine. Help me out, then?" She took her shirt off and turned her back to Maya, who grinned and spread some sunscreen on her.
Once done, Maya offered the sunscreen bottle to Canon and stripped down to the swimsuit. She waited until Canon handed the bottle back then quickly applied some sunscreen on herself. "There is one good side about this beach," she said. "When we're done, we can just hop over to Rakuen for a proper wash. The seaside shower does only so much."
Canon nodded a little. "Well, that is handy at least," she agreed.
"Need more of this?" Maya asked, holding up the sunscreen. "Might want to put on the parts that aren't covered by the bikini."
She wasn't sure if what Canon mumbled at her as an answer was, "I'll kill you," or "Should probably," but nevertheless, Canon took off her shorts, took the offered bottle again and applied some of its contents on her skin.
Looking at her here in bright daylight, Maya was starting to be convinced that whatever she had been thinking when getting this particular bikini had indeed been Canon. The mix of white and green on the bikini was fashionable, it was exactly the kind of combination that fit Canon, and the garment enchanted her curves. All in all it was such a perfect fit, just like Maya had claimed earlier.
"What are you staring at?" Canon bluntly asked, noticing Maya's eyes on her.
"The sexiest girl on the island," Maya cheerfully replied. Canon looked like she wasn't sure if she was embarrassed or if she wanted to throw the sunscreen bottle at Maya, but Maya just made a mental note to compliment her friends more. It was the truth, after all, and it appeared Canon needed to hear it more often.
Canon eventually decided to hand over the bottle. "Thanks?" She said in a bit of a hushed tone, then turned to look at the water. "Well," she said in a stronger tone of voice. "The water's waiting. I can't take this heat much longer anyway." Chocolat, who was still hiding from the sun, was totally in agreement.
"Yeah, let's," Maya answered. She tossed the sunscreen on top of her other things and headed for the water. "You too, Chocolat! You're the reason Canon wanted to go swim in the first place!"
"Come on out of there," Canon joined in. She walked up to where Maya was and turned to look at the dog. "We're going swimming!" Chocolat looked a bit suspicious but soon forgot about everything and dashed to where the girls were. "There you go. Go on, run around all you want!" Canon took a few steps into the water and splashed a bit in Chocolat's direction.
Even the water seemed to be on the warm side, Maya noted, but it was definitely not as hot as the air. She made it to knee deep and stopped for a moment to watch Chocolat hop around her and then dash back past Canon. She then continued further until it was deep enough to just flop backwards into the water and float along for a bit. Or leer at Canon playing with Chocolat, as Maya soon caught herself doing instead of just enjoying the water.
Canon had her back turned to Maya as she watched Chocolat bounce to the shore to escape the waves. She laughed at her antics, not paying any attention to where Maya had gone, and Maya turned around and swum towards the shore. She then got up to her feet and sneaked up behind Canon, who was still completely distracted by the dog, all up until it was too late.
"Got you!" There was a splash as Maya caught Canon by the waist and dragged her down with her. Canon yelped, but it was too late for her to resist. While the water was shallow where they currently where, they both ended up sitting on the sea bottom. Chocolat hopped closer, but didn't seem to think anything was horribly wrong.
A moment passed, then they both burst out laughing. "Damn you," Canon attempted to sound threatening but completely failed and just ended up giggling. "I'll get you for that!" She splashed water in Maya's direction and attempted to get up, but fumbled and fell onto Maya, who failed to catch her. They went back into the water with in a splash, and Chocolat instantly swum over to check up on them.
"Silly dog, we're fine," Canon snickered at her when they got their heads up from the water and managed to sit up again. "It was just payback. And there's more to come!"
"Oh, but you'll have to catch me first." Maya grinned at Canon. She hopped on her feet and took off towards the open sea, leaving Canon sitting for the moment before she caught on.
Maya might have gotten a bit of a head start, but Canon was quick on her moves. "I will get you!" She called with a laugh and swiftly dove in and swum towards Maya. Maya managed to dive just when Canon was about to reach her, but that didn't save her for long as the moment she got up to the surface, Canon was next to her. "Take this!" Canon got a hold of her then promptly slipped, fell on Maya again, and they both ended up in the sea once again.
Somewhere towards the shore, Chocolat barked at them just to see if they were going to react, and as both girls resurfaced, gasping from air in between laughter, she just hopped around a little and wagged her tail. She knew everything was fine, but she still liked to keep a check on them just to make sure.
"Had enough with your revenge?" Maya asked after she managed to get enough air in her lungs again - and to stop laughing, which seemed to be half the problem here.
"Maybe," Canon replied with a smirk. "I do like the catching you part of this game though, it gives me a clear goal."
Maya tilted her head a little. "A goal," she mused. "What if my goal was to get that bikini top off?" Canon stared at her for a second then took a careful step back, not sure if Maya was serious or not. "Just kidding!" Maya quickly added. "I wouldn't do it here where just about anyone could see us. Now if we were over at the seashore, just the two of us, that would be a different matter..."
"Pervert." Canon stated it like a fact, though she seemed amused at the thought. "That wouldn't be very fair though, then you'd have to be wearing a bikini too..."
"Oh," Maya retorted. "So you'd be interested in that kind of game?"
Canon gave her a meaningful leer. "Maybe," she answered with a slight shrug. "If it was just the two of us." She looked away, appearing slightly embarrassed. "But this is in public, isn't it enough that I'm wearing something like this? This is just..." She attempted to fix the position of the top a little, with not much success.
"But it does look amazing on you," Maya told her. "So no harm wearing it, right?" She smiled and leaned back into the water, letting herself float for a bit. "I can't make something like that look sexy," she idly admitted. "Needs to be another type of bikini, probably, if I ever learned anything from Yumiko's fashion rants."
"That's not true," Canon said, looking at her. "You look good in a bikini, too. You used to have that red one, with the bit of skirt and stuff that looked really great on you."
"Oh come on," Maya said with a bit of a laugh. "That was, what, last year! I think that particular bikini is too small for me now, and seriously I haven't worn that for a good while since I usually go for the practical approach." She stood up and smiled at Canon. "I'm surprised you remember something like that."
Canon looked at her thoughtfully. "Ah... Well, it just might be too small." She smirked a little, blatantly staring at Maya's chest. "It's a wonder what one year can do, huh? Are you absolutely sure the one I’m wearing wouldn't have been just fine...?"
"And here I thought I'm the pervert," Maya said with a grin. "But you know?" She then added. "We need to arrange some proper beach time sometime soon, and then I can wear a bikini too! We should really try and enjoy the summer while we can. Spend some time on the beach, and maybe get a watermelon too for the complete experience."
That was something Canon was quick to agree to. "Definitely," she replied, easing herself into the water and floating next to Maya. "Maybe sometime during the weekend? Just need to make sure we're not stuck working. I've been studying a lot lately, and you... Well."
Maya raised her head from the water. "Wait, am I getting the you-work-too-much lecture from you of all people now?" She asked with a laugh. She reached to her side and dragged Canon up from the water. "Okay, we're going now. First we're washing this stuff off and then seeing if we can go take a bath in Rakuen. And then I'm giving you a shoulder massage. You're obviously stressed."
"Wait, what does that have to do with-" Canon objected, but didn't manage to finish her sentence and just rolled her eyes instead. "Stressed, huh..." She muttered as she followed Maya to the shore, and they headed for the simple beach shower located by the building, with Chocolat circling around them. Since she was apparently interested in joining in, Maya turned the thing on, and Canon splashed some water at the dog. She reacted by jumping back and sprinting towards the sea. "Stupid!" Canon called after her with a laugh.
Amused at the sight, Maya watched her hop around for a bit before she entered the shower. "Aww, I was expecting this to be colder," she then complained. "Ah well. Here." She directed some water towards Canon's head. "Better get that salt water off."
"Same goes for you," Canon retorted. She drew Maya closer and washed her friend's hair. "You're totally right about the temperature though, because a little colder water would have been heavenly." She glanced towards the beach. "And you're getting back here, Chocolat! You need a wash too!" The dog looked at them, standing near the sea, but didn't make a move. "...Or do whatever you want," Canon muttered under her breath and stuck her own head under the water flow.
"Looks like it's just the two of us, unless you want to go drag her here," Maya observed, and Canon shrugged and shook her head. "Kind of warm or not, this is nice."
Canon nodded at that. "Sure is." She closed her eyes and relaxed a little, and Maya made sure they both washed off the salt from the seawater. The air around them was slightly more tolerable like this, at least.
She then caught something from the corner of her eye and took a look to the side to confirm. Mizoguchi had finally returned to Rakuen - or rather, to the vicinity of it, seeing he was standing by the stairs and looking at the girls. Maya caught Canon's attention and nodded her head towards the road.
"What...?" Canon started, then noticed what Maya was pointing out. "Hey, old lecher, what are you up to?"
Mizoguchi grinned at the girls. "Ah, to be young," he called to them.
"Oh, you have no idea," Maya hissed at him. "You also have about half a minute to get to Rakuen and set us up a bath, before you find yourself taking a little swim in the ocean."
"Ouch, Missy," he replied defensively. "No harm done! Here I thought I should go get Kazuki or something, surely he would appreciate the sight more than an old-"
That was about as far as he got as Maya dashed out of the shower and towards where he was standing, and he took a few steps back then hastily retreated towards Rakuen. Maya gave chase, and Chocolat gleefully joined in on running after Mizoguchi. Somewhere behind her, Maya could see Canon laughing as she turned the shower off and went to get their towels.
Maya wasn't so sure what Kazuki would have thought about seeing her and Canon in the shower, but Kazuki was about to get something else to see, once she just caught up to the old pervert.
