Church dance + Gems au = accidental near-fusion???

And now, for the main event: Black Opal, the fusion of an Orange Pearl (Kim Kitsuragi) and mystery gem (Harry Du Bois). Below is a reference I made:

Black Opal, the fusion of Harry and Kim as part of my Disco Elysium / Steven Universe crossover AU. I really wanted to lean into the nostalgia and adrenaline junkie aspects of both characters. The conclusion I came to was a 70s biker. I think every time I've seen a picture of someone's american dad back when they were younger, it was a guy with insane facial hair and a homoerotic biker fit, which lead me to this as the aesthetic for a fusion of these two. These are black opals, for reference:

As a fusion, they both struggle to speak as a singular being. They are not a very stable fusion, mostly due to Harry's damaged gem and how quickly they both can diverge from each other in action and personality. When they do agree however and can maintain Black Opal, its the aspect of themselves that brings out the daring qualities of the other; the one that says "hold on!" and presses their foot on the accelerator, the one that revs their engine, the one that brings a boombox to a boat ride. After a while Black Opal is able to assimilate both aspects of Kim and Harry, as seen in the last panel where his enthusiastic and showboating personality (which both Harry and Kim posses individually in different ways) becomes more like a singular being, like other fusions in the show.

I arranged their limbs and eyes according to where I think they diverge in terms of personality and what they try to accomplish as a fusion / where their interests conflict. This seems to be the case for fusions in Steven Universe as well, where the less harmonious a fusion is, the less proportional the limbs and eyes are to a human body. Harry and Kim have divergences in their eyes and in their forearms. While physically they follow each other in a common goal, Harry and Kim have different ways of handling the world and diverge in their sense of interfacing. Kim has a delicate touch generally, while Harry tends to brute force his way through obstacles. They also have divergent eyes; They both see the world very differently and have different reactions to the same stimulus. Besides these two divergences, they are a fairly harmonious fusion physically.

This is Kim's first fusion, meanwhile Harry has fused before with multiple people from Precinct 41 and his ex, but due to his amnesia he doesn't remember that he has.

Harry and Kim are both basically in historical cosplay throughout the entire game, and I liked the idea of them both being a fusion that dresses in an outdated and charming way as well, like a person out of time. Black Opal as a gemstone I chose because the rainbow coloration of Harry's pale damage on his gem would intermingle with Kim's orange pearl, while the orange and green of the two of them mixed as colors would be a darker muddy color. Thus, this would equate to a dark gem with rainbow coloration inside. Opals tend to be porous as well, which I found fitting for Harry's eroded gemstone.

I love how Harry and Kim have whack-ass facial hair in game and I wanted to give them both an insane facial hair combo. The leather jacket is basically a combination of Harry's green disco blazer and Kim's orange bomber jacket. Kim's gloves become biker's gloves, the "tie" from Harry is the bandana they both wear around their mullet with buzzed sides. They're wearing these big biker's boots, which are drawn largely from Kim's boots in game. Kim has a ton of little compartments to his clothes, so I liked the idea of there being a bunch of zippers everywhere. I'd have put even more and drawn on some patches but my hand was starting to fall off from drawing so for now this is it.

I'll definitely be drawing more of this fusion and for this AU in the future but if you guys have suggestions, ideas, art requests for the crossover let me know. The tag for posts about this au is "disco universe".

About my "Nora Universe" AU drawings

For context to those who haven't seen them, circa 2017 I drew some "genderbent" (I'll get to that term later) alternate versions of the gems from Steven Universe, making them 'male' presenting with he/him pronouns.

First thing I'll say is thank you so much for the overwhelmingly positive reaction I got for them, I am so grateful for all the love. My main goal making those AUs was A) Cosplay purposes (for anyone who wanted the option to cosplay while still presenting male) and B) Practice for myself to draw male characters.

Some of the criticism I got about terms such as "genderbend" and "male AU" and how I was designing them really opened my eyes and helped me see things in a way I hadn't even considered. I do see it now, cutting a gem's hair really short and putting them in pants instead of a skirt and saying "he's a boy now!"... could be reinforcing negative gender stereotypes whether I intended it or not.

So for that, I do apologize and will keep it in mind for the future. And mainly, thank you for bringing that up to me as I don't ever want my art to convey that message. I don't have any more Nora Universe drawings planned or anything but I am grateful to have done them and learnt from them.

tldr: Thank you for the criticism on my Nora Universe drawings as I've learnt a lot from it.

Me 🇵🇭: Now, isn't that decently nice. 🙂 We loved watching "Foster's" as much as the next person. After all, it was created by the same guy who created "The Powerpuff Girls", with the except of the aforementioned "Bendy". Yeah, we won't talk about Bendy, anymore. But, nonetheless, I never seen G-Pal's cousins (or any other people) cosplaying "Foster's" main characters. 😊 If only, we could see more cosplayers dressing as other throwback CN characters, in the future (I mean, not just "Steven Universe", "Adventure Time", or any). 🙂

Hi! I decided that I really wanna talk about my favorite shows! I watch lots of anime and cartoons and thought I’d share my favorites and why I like them so much! Cause maybe you could watch them and that would be cool! Anyways here’s my top show list!

1. Fairy Tail: So this is my favorite anime and my special interest. I will be getting the guild mark when I turn 18. It’s so good! I don’t know why it gets so much hate. The OP’s go so hard and ALL of the females are written well. I tend to overhype the show but it is genuinely so good. It was also my first found family trope which is one of the reasons I’m so attached. Anyways, go watch it!

2. The Owl House: What is there to not like about this show. Flawless writing, dynamic characters, oh my god the animation!, good non-binary representation, etc. I’m such a Hunter kinnie and I’m gonna cosplay both Hunter and Amity soon. The kiss! And the girlfriends! And AAAHHH it just makes me so excited. I wrote a whole essay for my creative writing class last year about why it’s a cinematic masterpiece. Please go watch TOH! It got cut short but I know it’s gonna make the most of it’s final three episodes.

3. Soul Eater: For starters, I would like to mention that Maka and I are the same person. I am the embodiment of her. Now to the other stuff, I watched this anime a couple months ago and It’s honestly just one of the best anime out there! Talk about a dynamic cast of characters! I swear that last episode changed my life forever. So go watch it!

4. Amphibia: The last episode of Amphibia is the best final episode of anything I’ve ever watched. Marcy is SO autistic it’s not even funny. Anne’s anthem to Amphibia and her self discovery is gorgeous. Sasha’s journey is unfathomably well written. I started and finished Amphibia in three days. A fantastic use of time. You know the drill by now, go watch it!

5. Steven Universe: Steven Universe absolutely has its problems. But those things aside, it’s so good! I mean the SONGS! They are taking up so much room in my playlists. I won’t spoil anything, but the reveal! Season 5 episode 18 I think? Oh my. The movie slaps too and I think the future series has scarred me. Go watch it!

6. Your Lie In April: Finishing the list with this show feels right. I absolutely adore YLIA. It was my second anime ever and oh my god that ending! Sobbing. Actual tears. I even read Kaori’s letter as a monologue for my beginning acting class. If you don’t like sad things, it’s not for you. Cause YLIA stirs all the feels. Please go watch it!
