One of the topics regularly discussed in my classes is that of liability. You are responsible for every single round that leaves your barrel. If you shoot at a threat and miss the intended target, that Bullet does not just magically stop moving. It WILL continue to travel, potentially hitting someone or something completely unrelated to the incident (example: having to defend yourself in a Kroger parking lot). Uber and Lyft drivers!! How familiar are you with your company policies on driver safety? Have you thought about what you would do if your life (or the life of your passenger) was put at risk? What does the company suggest you do? What would YOU do? (Side note: Buddy is EXTREMELY lucky. Driver had every single legal justification to turn his head into a canoe. Sad part is, now the risk potentially increases if the young man attempting the car jacking feels like he should have been better prepared or went in shooting to prevent getting hurt. “DeKalb County police have arrested a man and his girlfriend investigators said have been targeting exotic dancers and robbing them for their cash tips. DeKalb County and Atlanta PD tracked the suspects Jaquan Lemon and Tori Riascos down in a College Park motel and arrested them after realizing both agencies had similar cases. Atlanta and DeKalb Police both confirmed that suspect Riascos is also an exotic dancer, who worked with all three victims the night of their robberies. Police believe she targeted the strippers with huge tips.” Industries where employees are known to carry cash tips at the end of their shifts (usually late at nigh or the dark hours of the morning) such as exotic dancers and waitresses, tend to be higher at risk for robbery type crimes (armed robbery, theft by intimidation, theft by sudden snatching, etc.), and these crimes will tend to happen either near or around their vehicles and places them at risk of being followed home. Be especially aware of who may be observing you, especially as you exit the establishment and walk to your vehicle. Pay attention to who may be following you as you drive home. If possible, vary your route. Make sure to always check your rear view to make certain you aren’t being followed. Letting anyone train you about firearms can be detrimental. Just because they’re “familiar” with firearms...or were in the military or law enforcement...doesn’t automatically mean they know how to adequately and SAFELY teach. Seek out a professional. Teaching is a profession. It is methodical and has specific processes in place to assure student safety. I don’t know the “instructor” in this particular video...but I do low that this negligent incident was 100% avoidable. I originally posted this as a story on my page but decided it was worth having as a permanent post. I’ve said this time and time again...Fail to follow the 4 A.C.T.S. of Firearms Safety and bad things WILL happen. Unfortunately it cost this young lady her life in this instance.
